I've heard some people speculate the only reason she is doing this is because she is miffed she isn't getting residuals from The Cosby Show reruns any more since few outlets will air it after Bill's fall from grace. Maybe she thinks rehabilitating his image might put the show back on the air?

Most people wouldn't consider having someone touch their p**** with their hand to be 'sex'.
Very wrong (and illegal) since she was 10, but calling it 'sex' is overstating it I think.

I suppose I could see there being some loyalty there even for nothing more than people generally don't want to believe someone they're close to is capable of evil, but it also makes sense losing out on residuals from all that work would make her a little biased.

Well, tbf, the screw up was taking him to trial after the immunity deal. So either way he would have been out. Had the mistake not happened he never would have been convicted to begin with
The real mistake was giving him a sweetheart immunity deal to begin with in a civil case.

lukewwilsonMar 24, 2026

I understand why they did it, it would have been hard to prove without doubt that he was guilty and he would have had a team of lawyers on his side, so instead so the next best thing and offer him immunity so the victims can at least try and get him in civil court which takes a lot less evidence to win

He didn't have an immunity deal. He gave testimony in a civil case where he admitted some stuff under the condition it be sealed and couldn't be used as evidence anywhere else. During his criminal case they used what was said in the civil case as evidence, which is why he successfully appealed the conviction.
-8
CaucusInferredBulkMar 24, 2026

"couldn't be used anywhere else" is a type of immunity deal. This particular kind is called "use immunity"

Cosby gave a statement in a previous deposition for a 2005 civil case where he wouldn't be punished for anything he said, and he talked about drugging women then.
Then in his criminal trial, they used that civil case deposition testimonial to get a guilty verdict and punish Cosby. So they broke the agreement previously made and vacated his guilty verdict.
40
runhome24Mar 24, 2026
+3
Wasn't it that the deal was he couldn't be prosecuted at all for the crimes against that specific victim, whether or not they used the deposition? Pretty sure that was the issue, not that they used the deposition.
3
wmansirMar 24, 2026
+5
There never was a "deal" as most people think of it. Cosby was going to refuse to answer questions in the civil case under his 5th amendment rights. In order to remove that claim the prosecutor at the time publicly announced he was granting Cosby immunity and so he could not claim the 5th and refuse to testify. Cosby then gave his testimony.
A subsequent prosecutor then claimed there was no immunity deal and prosecuted him, including using the testimony from the civil case.
The appeals court found that even though there was no official immunity deal, the public declaration of immunity effectively compelled Cosby to provide the testimony in civil case, which is a violation of his 5th amendment rights and so the testimony is not admissible as evidence.
5

Yeah, but as much as it sucks, it was the right decision.
Basically, he got immunity from Prosecution #1 for any testimony he gave. Then Prosecution #2 later used said testimony in court to get a guilty verdict.
It's like if they caught some mid-level mob guy and said, "Tell us everything you know about the bosses, and you'll avoid jail time," only to turn around and convict him of murder. Sure, the guy is a scumbag killer, but the government can't start giving out offers only to renege later.

Even if he were in prison, he would be doing easy time which is what was happening when he was there before they let him out. Same with R Kelly and any popular celebrity. All the prisoners treat them like kings and since they're rich, they can easily just give out commissary to groups of people that will look for them 24/7. Same with the guards that will look out for them because they get to go to work and interact with a famous person.
The only "famous" person I heard of having a hard time was Jared to subway guy. Someone apparently throw something upside his head. but that's about it.
I think what hurts Cosby the most is that his legacy is forever tarnished. if he had never done the horrible stuff he did, he could die forever being a legend that's admire forever. but now, there's going to be an effort to forget him most likely. Although...if I can be honest...I don't think a lot of people care. People still speak positively about him. There's no denying that he did a LOT for black people. He's the reason black stunt doubles became a thing when they did for example. It was whites only until he used his pull to get black stunt doubles and form a group of them.
But still, overall, that huge and heavy stain on his legacy is always going to be there. and I bet that eats him up. it really does suck. As a black man, he was one of the few I famous black I thought I could look up to. It's like finding out your hero was a monster the whole time. i see the downplaying and pretending it didn't happen with a lot of things. Like...we see people online talk about how livid they are towards criminal behavior...but out in the real world, so many people just don't give a shit about criminals doing horrible stuff anyone, whether it's women like with Cosby or with underaged girls like with R Kelly. Look at how popular Chris Brown is...and all his fans are women...
I saw a compilation of female judges giving light sentences to rapists and assaulters like 3 or 4 years ago. I hear too many stories about family members blaming the victim and the messenger when they tell on the adult that's been assaulting them. They'd rather keep it quiet so that their family doesn't look bad and they just continue to let it happen in many cases...So it's really a shame that people will continue to support bad people...and it's almost ever group of people...even here on reddit, people will celebrate horrible people and terrorists so long as it fits the narrow world view or it's purely optics.
11
SawsesMar 24, 2026
+4
> and I bet that eats him up.
I wonder if it maybe doesn't. Like sure, you and I would care about our legacy...but what if he just wanted decades of being adored, able to get away with anything he wanted and basically be untouchable while also being lauded as one of the leading black voices of his generation?
Like sure, in the end he spent a few years in prison and nobody really likes him...but on balance his life has surely been incredible and, hell, he could even argue he did way more good than bad. He's just not popular anymore, but maybe he comforts himself with that and with the memory of a lifetime on top.
It could be that he just didn't think it would ever catch up with him, but his worst-case scenario still beats the hell out of most people's wildest dreams.

I really dont understand why we let off elderly people with basically no punishments for their crimes. I saw a story of a rich 80 year old lady who sped into a bus stop killing an entire family of four and her defense was "i dont know what happened". She didnt get any jail time cause of her age. So once you become old, seems like you can just do whoever you want and you wont even go to prison

it’s safe to assume that Bill Cosby took steps to protect his assets to some extent before his major legal troubles. With his resources and access to experienced legal counsel, it would be a standard move to set up trusts, joint ownerships, or other legal structures to shield property.
That said, “protection” in this context is rarely absolute. The fact that he has had to sell properties, deal with foreclosures, and face ongoing financial scrutiny suggests the protection was partial, enough to mitigate some risk but not completely insulate him from liability or collection.
I’m confident that no matter what, he will continue living comfortably until his final days. His wife and children undoubtedly have access to substantial trust funds. He has been in this business for decades and knows the process. Public setbacks like property sales or foreclosures are just part of the facade. The public sees those stories, but in reality, it’s largely for show.
In 2000, his net worth was around 250+ million. He isn't a huge spender. If you do the math, you can very quickly calculate that a VERY substantial amount of his net worth was distributed elsewhere. What's left and exposed, is all by design.

They technically violated his rights. They promised him immunity but still used the evidence against him. The district lawyer on his case wanted to win an election. The Cosby case was a perfect opportunity to make themselves important.
Cosby's lawyer also beat the same lawyer in a previous election so... It's kinda fucked what happened.
But eh he wouldn't have to face prison either way if they followed the law by the book.

Mybdad told anyone who mentioned Cosby that he (my dad) had a party in his Greenwich Village apartment in the 1960s and someone brought Cosby and introduced him to my dad like “this is the person whose party this is”. My dad, who was a huge standup fan, said he put his hand out to shake it and told Cosby he loved his comedy. Cosby looked at him and turned and walked away.
My dad always said it shoeeed bad character.
I feel terrible for everyone he abused. But my dad died before that was made public. I hold some glee in my heart for my father and his decades long grudge would have ended.

I grew up watching him on I Spy and of course Fat Albert & the Cosby Kids. My mom had all his comedy albums and we would sit around and listen to them as a family. Finding out what a monster he is was devastating. I'm glad Mom didn't live to see it.

I wonder why this jury decided the victim should get $59M and another victim who was assaulted around the same time got $500,000.
>In 2022, a jury in Santa Monica awarded $500,000 to a woman who said [Cosby sexually assaulted her](https://apnews.com/article/bill-cosby-politics-entertainment-santa-monica-lawsuits-f693f1b67f5b2aa7b2105217e79f57ac) at the Playboy Mansion when she was a teenager in 1975.
I'm surprised the trial took two weeks because there wasn't any evidence since it happened over 50 years ago. It's not like her lawyers could question staff at the hospital who did a r*** test or provide emails or texts or testimony from people who remember what happened. It's disgusting that he used to have such a wholesome image for many years.

The fact that he avoided jail on a technicality makes it even more satisfying to see him lose everything. It’s not the same as prison, but it’s something.
1
lazydraculaMar 24, 2026
Sadly he’s rich enough to avoid paying most of it and he will likely die before she gets a cent.

This guy was involved in a lot of civil cases even before he was imprisoned. I think his law team has the foresight to protect his assets via multiple trust funds. It's not hard at all.
There will be a headline in the newspaper calling him broke, maybe something about foreclosures but it doesn't really reflect the truth. The same thing happened with OJ Simpson.

>His estate will be liable
Depends. If he were smart, he'd have multiple trusts set up for his family....ones that were established long before his arrest.
That's something normal people do, not just criminals if they have a significant amount of cash/assets.
