Bill Maher is the kind of comedian we need now. One that unites us all. In our hatred of him.

Hahahahaha, that was hilarious, and man does he suck

I just saw him in an old episode of the Roseanne show. He was a photographer taking boudoir photos of Roseanne.

I'm sure Bill did as well.

I remember the episode. But had no idea it was that shit stain.
4
Rogue_Ninja_Taco Mar 26, 2026 +2
You'll have to be more specific as to which person is the shit stain considering who was in the eposide.

There’s a reason why there’s a popular podcast simply titled “I Hate Bill Maher”.

I felt out of touch after reading the first sentence of your post. Then I was redeemed. He is not funny. He just likes the sound of his own voice. I'm so happy he never had children. No need to reproduce those genes.

Aron_Wolff Mar 26, 2026 +12
He’s the Ted Cruz of comedy. His quest to get this award has been so f****** pathetic. Everyone who knows anything about him, what the award means, and Maher having to suck Donnie peen to get it will always cheapen his being a recipient. It’s just too bad that it also cheapens it for those who truly do deserve it in the future.
12
yunmany Mar 26, 2026 +7
If their is any person on this planet that deserves this awards FAR more then Bill Maher it’s D*** Van Dyke
7
chickenhouse Mar 26, 2026 +10
Look I hate trump as much as the next guy. But I don’t know how giving awards to unfunny partisan hacks helps anything. Give the award to Jon Stewart or anyone on the daily show before this guy.
10
steve2theE Mar 26, 2026 +6
Jon Stewart already received the award in 2022

Efficient_Gap4785 Mar 26, 2026 +26
Pre-Covid I enjoyed listening and watching both of Rogan and Maher. Both became insufferable during and after Covid.  Among the many valid reasons I had to move on, the biggest one was how they both bitched and moaned about cancel culture.
26
kiwigate Mar 26, 2026 +50
They didn't change, you grew. E: 2016 JRE was "Trump might be a sociopath, but Hillary is a liar" and "we need Elon Musk in charge"
50
Efficient_Gap4785 Mar 26, 2026 +20
Maybe a bit of both, Rogan definitely changed. Pre-Covid the stakes of his podcast seemed much less. He could talk about dumb shit or have problematic guests on and it wasn’t a big deal. He normalized psychedelics, which led to me using them for my depression, which has helped massively. During and post covid it started with him having Dr. Michael Osterholm, an infectious disease epidemiologist, who outlined and explained how a pandemic works. Rogan then proceeded to completely forget and ignore everything he learned from that podcast and b**** and moan about government overreach while constantly spreading misinformation. Then he started having more political guests and sharing his political beliefs regardless of guests. The other glaring issue with Rogan was the way he has continued to platform Alex Jones in spite of sandy hook fallout, and his very dangerous rhetoric. He handles him with kid gloves too which is extra frustrating.  He had Josh Brolin on in 24 or 25, whom I enjoy listening to so I decided to give it a go. Rogan was still bitching about the pandemic 4-5 years later. Like stfu dude, move the f*** on.
20
kiwigate Mar 26, 2026 +11
Leftists of the 1960s normalized psychedelics. Nixon wanted to arrest his political enemies and created the war on drugs.
11
Baeolophus_bicolor Mar 26, 2026 +9
Right? Hearing that Joe Rogaine is the reason why psychedelics for depression exist was … news to me.
9
Naive-Jello428 Mar 26, 2026 +17
They both definitely changed. I used to listen to every JRE and watch every Real Time. They both should be a case study in right wing brain rot. They let "cancel culture" propaganda turn them into what they are today. It led them down the right wing rabbit hole, exactly as intended.
17
wwj Mar 26, 2026 +3
They both changed after the comedy industry was affected by their ignorant perception of "cancel culture" and the very real COVID lockdown. Those two things negatively impacted the thing they care most about, their careers. They completely turned a corner once their livelihoods suffered temporary inconveniences.
3
ATLien325 Mar 26, 2026 +3
Rogan and Maher definitely got shook up the pandemic and they’re still bitter and never miss a chance to inject it into the conversation. Yeah, it was a big deal. Say some other shit now wtf
3
HenryDorsettCase47 Mar 26, 2026 +14
Yeah. I thought Maher was a smarmy f*** waaay back in the day when my girlfriend-at-the-time’s super liberal parents would tune in to every episode of Real Time. He’s just the epitome of a coastal neolib. I would occasionally watch Rogan if he had a guest on I was interested in. Even back then he use to bring up the same topics over and over, but they were much more innocent, like elk meat or dmt or the strength of a chimp.
14
gutterfreaklabs Mar 26, 2026 +6
Same, I had to bail on most comedy pods too for the same reason.
6
Efficient_Gap4785 Mar 26, 2026 +10
[Anthony Jeselink had a great take on it, in my opinion.](https://youtube.com/shorts/JyNnljzvrbo?si=YOlCkIZkPoUcAjGl)
10
BeefInGR Mar 26, 2026 +2
There was a time when the podcast of Real Time was available first thing Monday morning. Killer Mike was my favorite guest, got me into RTJ. Good times.
2
Main-Inspection-8605 Mar 26, 2026 +3
Maher had a gift for bringing out people you wouldn’t expect to leave such an impression. KM carried himself so confidently I questioned who should have a talk show. He also had a finger on the pulse of the right because he had right wing guests on semiregularly. And he defended their right to be heard if the crowd booed prematurely. That stuff goes a long way towards winning hearts & minds and figuring out which people in the president’s circle would be the adults in the room when shit went south. Oh, it was so long ago
3
SwoopsRevenge Mar 26, 2026 +6
I read this with Bill Maher’s smug “New Rules” voice in my head.
6
BareNakedSole Mar 26, 2026 +3
Seriously what the f*** happened to this guy?
3
TheDebateMatters Mar 26, 2026 +5
Maher asks conservatives to their face, all the questions the left **pleads** with journalists to ask…and I honestly feel like the left’s recent flip on him is symptomatic of a problem with the left rather than Maher. I watched him for decades. He’s always been smug and a d*** sometimes and his humor punches down occasionally. But his show was one of the few places in media where people from all sides of the political divide would debate issues. Debate them in front of a live audience and a host who will actually pin you down and grill you when you are bullshitting during a question. I feel too many younger viewers experience with him is a handful of specific issues via Tik Tok clips where they disagree with him and then its just another example of a liberal purity test where if you aren’t pure left, you’re out.
5
BigMax Mar 26, 2026 +2
Yes, he's a pretty flawed person. However, I don't hate that he might get an award. He's been around for a looong time, and that certainly says something about his ability to survive and entertain at least some folks. There's not a lot of people in comedy who have had as long and successful a career as he has.
2
SoTiredYouDig Mar 26, 2026 +6
It comes down to what your yardstick is for measuring success. And innumerable folks have had long careers in comedy.
6
Plenty_Discussion470 Mar 26, 2026 +4
He was good in Cannibal Women in the Avocado Jungle of Death (1989)!

baeb66 Mar 26, 2026 +341
There goes the prestige for that award. Bill Maher is about as funny as a school bus accident.
341
wojonixon Mar 26, 2026 +25
That’s a pretty good one, I’ll add it to my rotation; I need to mix it up from toenail fungus or pediatric leukemia. Whoever told the guy he was funny must be the same one who told him he was smart. My money’s on Bill himself.
25
Musashi_Joe Mar 26, 2026 +20
And after giving it to Conan last year, maybe one of the most deserved awards ever. This is gross.
20
ta112233 Mar 26, 2026 +34
I mean, Kevin Hart won a few years ago so I’m not sure much prestige was left
34
SpiffShientz Mar 26, 2026 +12
Kevin Hart at least has great stage presence, high energy, excellent comedic timing. He's a very talented comedian, even if he's not your speed. Bill Maher just f****** sucks
12
RSMeansPimp Mar 26, 2026 -4
I’m sorry but the prestige left when Dave Chapelle won the award. Most over rated comic of my life! Makes two seasons of a funny show in my childhood. Disappeared for years. Came back to do some stand up and never shut up how he turned down millions of dollars. He mentions it like he did us a favor. Then his trans jokes, not even funny. I turned his last special off after he got so high ON STAGE, his performance suffered greatly afterwords. Came to realize all of this and I will not tune in any longer. What a let down.
-4
mc1154 Mar 26, 2026 +42
Respectfully, you’re free to not like Dave, but he was at the top of the comedy game for years. Killin’ Them Softly stands as one of the great standup specials of this century so far, and he’s won more awards than I care to list. Bill Maher has a talk show and made a movie mocking religious people. This is a giant step down for the Twain prize.
42
Mindhandle Mar 26, 2026 +8
Just because you got my research brain going, Maher has been nominated 41 times for an emmy and never won. Chappelle has 17 noms and 5 wins, but 2 of those were SNL episodes winning, not directly his work. As for Grammys, Chappelle has won 6 and Maher hasn't released an album that i can find in like 25 years. Most of his specials just live on HBO and wouldn't be eligible for Grammys.
8
WarmupHeadshots Mar 26, 2026 +9
Dave had a murderous like 6 year run. Killing them softly was 26 years ago. His TV show was heavily cowritten by neil brennan, who dave completely fucked and discarded. Chappelle gave up on developing material or evolving and is just milking name recognition getting paid to be half asleep on stage. Saying Chappelle is an all time great is like comparing Dwight Howard or Blake Griffin to LeBron or MJ. Came out strong, but once their prime was gone, was just another filler roster spot. Carlin may have been the last comic to be a proper talent til the bitter end.
9
PrincessJoyHope Mar 26, 2026 +7
Tsk tsk don’t forget Norm Macdonald
7
LeviJNorth Mar 26, 2026 +7
Yeah, I think Dave as big a b**** as Maher, but denying that he was one of the funniest people to ever live is not necessary.
7
BeefInGR Mar 26, 2026 +4
It's the Bill Cosby effect. Is what Bill Cosby did abhorrent? Absolutely. Was he an elite comedian and one of the most positively influential members of the entertainment industry at his peak (regardless of race)? Absolutely.
4
HeadAssBoi17 Mar 26, 2026 +3

7
TomBirkenstock Mar 26, 2026 +181
This is actually great representation for comedians who have never told a funny joke.
181
kafka_lite Mar 26, 2026 +44
I used to watch his show every week. The man cannot get through a single monolog without a fat joke. It's like dad jokes would be too cutting edge for him.
44
ghostnthegraveyard Mar 26, 2026 +14
A while back I turned on the TV and it was still tuned to HBO. Bill Maher's "comedy" special was on. We have two remotes and the one I used to turn on the TV does not change channels (used for apps). I scrambled to find the other one, but it took at least 90 seconds, so I heard enough of his show to make me hate that smarmy f*** even more than I already did. Dude is insufferable.
14
NikkolaiV Mar 26, 2026 +6
I thought that's what Rob Schneider was for
6
_lippykid Mar 26, 2026 +2
I actually quite like his show Real Time, but I don’t think I’ve laughed out loud once to anything he’s said. And I laugh at SNL
2
BiggsIDarklighter Mar 26, 2026 +106
No real comedian would step foot in the KC right now, meanwhile Maher’s been sleeping on the doorstep for weeks.
106
YogurtclosetDull2380 Mar 26, 2026 +24
It'll be interesting to see who comes out to support him when he receives it.
24
_lippykid Mar 26, 2026 +15
Kid Rock and Ann Coulter. You know, real Hollywood A-listers
15
LeviJNorth Mar 26, 2026 +14
Gonna be like a Trump rally. A few washed up losers and a surprisingly big sellout like Snoop.
14
Ssshizzzzziit Mar 26, 2026 +5
Seems like a bucket of crickets.
5
RadarSmith Mar 26, 2026 +2
We'll probably see plenty of comedians, especially older ones, who do out of a reflexive feeling that they need to publicly support other comedians. Prepare to see a few disappointments in that regard. That said, at least as many will call him out for it.
2
justmyfewcents1337 Mar 26, 2026 +30
He wasn't even invited to the Riyadh Comedy Festival because he's so bad at his business.
30
Marhyc Mar 26, 2026 +8
And he insulted Arabs a few times before I believe
8
Meat-Dimension Mar 26, 2026 +7
If you knew anything about Maher and his feelings on religion I think it would be pretty obvious why he wasn’t invited to the Riyadh comedy festival…
7
supervegeta101 Mar 26, 2026 +3
That and he's an atheist who openly hates Islam. The comedians who went said one of the rules was no jokes about ANY religion, and Islam is the only religion he criticizes now.
3
ThirdBorracho Mar 26, 2026 +50
How many do you think rejected it for now for them to get to him?
50
Not_software1337 Mar 26, 2026 +8
I’m sure some Yotubers and even TikTok kids turned it down.
8
VampireOnHoyt Mar 26, 2026 +22
"See, conservatives, they drive the car like *this*, but liberals, they drive the car like *this*...." --every Bill Maher joke
22
ZootSuitRiot33801 Mar 26, 2026 +12
You're missing the part where he starts laughing at his own joke before stating the punchline
12

Hey, he's no Dave Chappelle.
2

Bill Maher is qualified as a comedian like Donald Trump is qualified as a president. Are they really?

I can't believe I looked up to him 20 years ago.
4
JoshDaws Mar 26, 2026 +50
I’ve done standup for more than 10 years. I’ve heard other comics refer to a litany of “hacks” as their initial inspiration to do standup. From the blue collar guys, to Jeff Dunham, to f****** Gallagher. Never, once, has any comic Ive met even said a positive thing about Maher. And comics like comics. Why on earth would you give an award to the least funny person to ever hold a mic?
50
ThunkAsDrinklePeep Mar 26, 2026 +22
Because the emperor wants a clown who will say nice things about him.
22
TheVintageJane Mar 26, 2026 +9
To the guy who thinks that out-of-touch oligarch remarks and narcissistic bullying is comedy, Bill Maher is an award w*****.
9

11
JellyPast1522 Mar 26, 2026 +10
The Maher show has but two people that laugh at his jokes. The one guy who's paid to "Woo", and Bill himself.
10
Resident-Complex4682 Mar 26, 2026 +7
And then he bitches at his audience when they don’t react to his liking🙄
7
_lippykid Mar 26, 2026 +5
I f****** **hate** it when he does that. You think he’d be used to it after telling bad jokes for the best part of a century. Big baby
5
ductcleanernumber7 Mar 26, 2026 +2
The woo guy is the worst. It's like he knows which "jokes" won't get a big enough reaction from the crowd in advance so he's there to make it seem like maher doesn't suck. And like...What comedian goes for woos as an afirmation of their talent?
2
FireWokWithMe88 Mar 26, 2026 +10
Politics aside the pool is getting pretty thin if Bill Maher is getting this prize.
10
barktwiggs Mar 26, 2026 +20
Strap some magnets to Samuel Clemens in his grave. He is now a perpetual clean energy generator based on how much he is spinning. Also Rob Schneider gonna have to wait his turn after Greg Gutfield next year.

5

Mark Twain had bowel movements that were funnier than this pompous, deeply unfunny jagoff.
6
TheMightyHornet Mar 26, 2026 +4

4

The Kennedy Center is closed for two years.
3
V0T0N Mar 26, 2026 +4

4
AcctAlreadyTaken Mar 26, 2026 +4
Well it wouldn't be a Trump era award without the recipient crying until they got it. The pro war stuff really worked. I wonder when and where the ceremony will be with Kennedy Center being "closed for remodeling".
4
The_Goondocks Mar 26, 2026 +4
I wish this were fake news.

3

He hasn't been funny in years. What a joke
3
twoiseight Mar 26, 2026 +3
I don't understand how taints like Maher even have careers, let alone win media awards.
3
briankerin Mar 26, 2026 +3
Bill Mahar is NO Conan Obrien, or Dave Chappel, or Dave Letterman; its going to be hard for other comedians to honor him as there's not much good to say.
3
chester-12 Mar 26, 2026 +3
Carrot top wasn’t available?
3
PleaseSirOneMoreTurn Mar 26, 2026 +3
I actually enjoy Maher’s show, but he has never been a good comedian. The live audience forced to laugh at his softball jokes. The aggressive “you didn’t get the punchline” shtick he does whenever one of his jokes doesn’t land. I enjoy political discussion so I watch but he has never been all that funny.
3
Open-Hedgehog7756 Mar 26, 2026 +3
Mark Twain he is not.
3
PoopieP Mar 26, 2026 +3

I love Bill Maher. Guess I am in the minority on that one but whatever. I think he deserves it.
3

Maybe we should just get rid of the Kennedy Center after all. Maher has never in his entire life been funny.
3

F*** bill maher.
3
KhelbenB Mar 26, 2026 +5
10 years ago I would have cheered, but man, the last decade really amplified everything I disliked about him. He is such an unsufferable a****** these days, I am not really sure how much of it is that he changed (and he did change) and how much was always there.
5
TheArmChairFan Mar 26, 2026 +2
So he stopped talking how you want him to and decided to cry.
2
SpaceCampDropOut Mar 26, 2026 +2
Insulting to all the past winners and Mark Twain.
2
KeTaMiNEanDpEdoZ Mar 26, 2026 +2
If Bill Maher had even a quarter of the intelligence and integrity of someone like Jon Stewart this comment section and his reputation would still be in tact. But the man just keeps spiraling, or just showing who he really always was like Elon or something?
2
RebelliousInNature Mar 26, 2026 +2
Is it too late to to vote for Weird Al?
2
AmbassadorOkieDokie Mar 26, 2026 +2
Bill Maher isn't funny. He tells lame jokes and doesn't recognize his own deficiencies. A country that celebrates losers bombs kids in foreign lands. Losers.
2

I wouldn’t cross the street to see Bill Maher
2

TIL Bill Maher is trying to be funny. I have literally never once thought that he was attempting humor.
2

Now we know why Maher went down to Maralago....
2
TYFO225 Mar 26, 2026 +2

‘Humor’ is doing A LOT of f****** heavy lifting here.

This wet napkin wins an award for humor? Where’s all mine then? I should have two dozen by now if the bar is this low

I don't hate Maher like most of Reddit. But I don't happen to think he is funny enough to get this award and I'm not sure which comics will perform at his induction.

It's like the most annoying people in the country got together and crafted an even more annoying story.

Bill and trump are terrible

Altruistic_Flow_7884 Mar 26, 2026 +2
The award has lost all meaning after it was given to Kevin Hart. Mark Twain will be spinning in his grave.
2
fancydad Mar 26, 2026 +2
Maybe his comedy buddies Ann Coulter and Bari Weiss will present it to him.

joshspoon Mar 26, 2026 +2
Is Dennis Miller next?

F*** Bill Maher! That is all

I honestly don’t believe that BM deserves this prestigious award. His talk show nitch was entertaining, but he’s never been funny. Let alone uniquely funny.
2
Nervous-Rush-4465 Mar 26, 2026 +2
But, he’s not funny. Joke’s on us.

JemmaMimic Mar 26, 2026 +2
I can't even begin to imagine how thoroughly Samuel Clemens would eviscerate Trump.
2
SafeKaracter Mar 26, 2026 +2
Well that proves the mark Twain award ain’t worth shit

Tasty-Performer6669 Mar 27, 2026 +2

Humor ? This has to be a joke.

Mike_R_NYC Mar 26, 2026 +1
I used to watch him years ago because he was controversial, but I don’t think he is that funny or influential to receive this award. Steven Colbert or Bill Burr would be better suited for this award IMHO.

ShaiHuludNM Mar 26, 2026 +2
The same Bill Burr who sold his morals to a Saudia Arabian comedy show? No thanks.
2
EnvironmentalPea5115 Mar 26, 2026 +1
Who cares he’s a d***
1
Marhyc Mar 26, 2026 +1
That's like the comedy equivalent of Nobel Peace Prize being given to Obama
1
bluehawk232 Mar 26, 2026 +1
At his ceremony will they include the clip of him talking to 10 year olds about p***. Dude is a creep
1
dtxucker Mar 26, 2026 +1
They both suck, but at least this will upset one of them.
1
RaytheArtWhore Mar 26, 2026 +1
Is he a comedian? If he funny? Thats what a comedian does right? Make you laugh? He make me cringe.
1
matchstrike Mar 26, 2026 +1
Maher hasn’t been funny in 20 years.
1
No-Opposite-6620 Mar 26, 2026 +1
Mark Twain will be making a special appearance, speaking on behalf of those deceased rotating at 1000rpm.
1
kalamazoo43 Mar 26, 2026 +1
I wonder if Mark Twain was all smarmy and full of himself?
1
jdbway Mar 26, 2026 +1
All he had to do was blow bubba while Trump watched after they finished dinner and also be a lot friendlier towards the administration on his shows
1
mtngranpapi_wv967 Mar 26, 2026 +1
I guess dude is salty his show gets no Emmys lmao
1
Relevant-Doctor187 Mar 26, 2026 +1
Trump will tear it down before he gets that award. Only Trump can win major awards because he’s a little shit gibbon.
1
wdomeika Mar 26, 2026 +1
Maher's humor is like dissecting a frog. Most people aren't interested. Some are really grossed out. And then there's Maher's audience who just get off watching the frog die...
1
jspurlin03 Mar 26, 2026 +1
But Bill Maher _isn’t funny_…
1
anklebiter1360 Mar 26, 2026 +1
Who’s Bill Maher?
1
datagamma Mar 26, 2026 +1
It’s ironic that justices rule on their prejudice. lol
1
LightenUpPhrancis Mar 26, 2026 +1
Well there certainly aren’t going to be any prizes awarded for humor in these Bill Maher hate threads. Y’all need to come up with new material.
1
wtfElvis Mar 26, 2026 +1
Is Bill Maher getting the Prize for Humor the joke? I don’t get it myself….
