I've never met a person in my life that has any interest in him or his opinion. Genuinely don't know what his audience demographic is even though it clearly exists.

I liked Bill Maher 20 years ago. I liked that he was a staunch atheist and called out both sides on the political spectrum on their bullshit. As time passed, he’s lost his edge and just became a whiny little b**** just like Trump.

jdefr Mar 26, 2026 +22
Same… I’m 37 and remember when he seemed alright.. now he just seems insufferable. Did something happen to him or what here??
22
Feisty-Poet4767 Mar 26, 2026
My theory is COVID drove him over the edge. He was home alone all those months and I think he got strange
0
che-che-chester Mar 26, 2026 +22
He used to be one of the few Dems willing to call out Dems. And I'll admit, it was refreshing to see a Dem publicly not accept bullshit and corruption from Dems. The problem is now that is his entire shtick. >just became a whiny little b**** just like Trump My least favorite thing about older Bill Maher is how he'll stop after a joke bombs (or just doesn't hit) and scold the audience until they start clapping. Or you see he is sometimes visibly offended when a guest on his panel dares to disagree with him. It's so pathetic.

musluvowls Mar 26, 2026 +10
He completely lost me during the pandemic when he had to have a fake audience/laugh track because he can't perform without the positive feedback.

Eastern_Turnover3037 Mar 26, 2026 +6
Lost me at Ann Coulter 🤢

guntycankles Mar 26, 2026 +6
Holy shit, I forgot about this. I thought this was *so lame*
6
che-che-chester Mar 26, 2026 +2
The shows he did from his backyard were pretty painful, though at the time it was just nice to have new content of any kind. As I remember it, he was in his backyard with a cameraperson and he interviewed someone on Zoom. I just felt like it was poorly executed. I would have at least edited it to remove the slight delay. It was tough to watch.
2
Visual_Fly_9638 Mar 27, 2026 +2
My favorite new rule was when he basically went on a rant about knowing when to leave the party and still be appreciated/beloved vs sticking around until everyone is f****** sick of you. .... Apropos of nothing.
2
TheInfelicitousDandy Mar 27, 2026 +1
Ya I liked him 20 years ago too, but I'm pretty sure it was because I was an uninformed teenager and didn't know better more so than any change in him.

jdefr Mar 26, 2026 +30
It’s like the “Long John silvers restaurant” conspiracy of mine… like I never seen a single person go into one of those but they somehow exist..
30
No-Lead-6769 Mar 26, 2026 +4
Long john silvers is amazing
4
Ok_Mathematician938 Mar 26, 2026 +3
I know people that get the free crumbs out of the fryer, but this and Arby's seem to survive despite the fact that no one is ever there.
3
jdefr Mar 26, 2026 +4
You know I used to go to Arby’s back in the day they actually aren’t bad.. I said the very same thing back then and went there ironically and came to actually like it…
4
Bocaj1000 Mar 26, 2026 +3
Tons of people go to Arby's. It's not even close to Long John's, what do you mean?
3
tdaun Mar 26, 2026 +1
Arby's has good curly fries, milkshakes, and chicken.
1
campelm Mar 26, 2026
The real conspiracy is how Arby's owns Buffalo Wild wings. Sonic, Jimmy John's Dunkin. Baskin Robbins and Rusty Taco

Contrarian Gen X-ers primarily.
23
PhamilyTrickster Mar 26, 2026 +23
This contrarian Gen Xer can't stand him. He's never been entertaining enough to back up his shitty attitudes and opinions
23
HojMcFoj Mar 26, 2026 +8
He's not even entertaining enough to back up his general personality.
8
SirDrexl Mar 26, 2026 +12
Even for contrarians, Lewis Black would have been a better choice. I don't know why Mike Judge or Trey Parker/Matt Stone haven't gotten this yet. Or even Seth McFarlane.
12
HomoExtinctisus Mar 26, 2026 +4
Contrarian Gen X-ers aren't interested in watching Maher perform fellatio on Elon Musk, that's regular Gen X-ers.
4
Primary-Holiday-5586 Mar 26, 2026 +7
My silent generation parents with varying degrees of dementia love him. I leave the room.
7
matthieuC Mar 26, 2026 +6
I always assumed his audience was mainly people who fell asleep watching TV
6
Notmymain2639 Mar 26, 2026 +8
Seth McFarlane, Brent Spiner and Johnathon Frakes all said they like him on a recent podcast. I lost respect for all 3 right there.
8
cardboardunderwear Mar 26, 2026 +3
He was pretty good in Cannibal Women in the Avocado Jungle of Death
3
Prof_Bobo Mar 26, 2026 +2
Ok that sounds like a banger
2
cardboardunderwear Mar 26, 2026 +3
Believe it or not it was actually pretty funny. 80s comedy B movie that's aware if it's own absurdity.  Worth a watch if you catch it on streaming. https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0094834/
3
Hairy_Suspect_2468 Mar 26, 2026 +2
Surprised it’s not a Troma production
2
cardboardunderwear Mar 26, 2026 +1
In the imdb I read the writer was the same writer as pretty woman.  It is good writing tbh

He's always been a bigot.
2
RightofUp Mar 26, 2026 -2
I enjoy his show. His stand up, while not the best, is also enjoyable.
-2
Ok_Belt2521 Mar 26, 2026 -2
He was great in his prime. Now he struggles to accept that he’s 70 and the world has moved on.
-2
Gonzomi313 Mar 26, 2026 +30
No one loves Bill Maher more than Bill Maher… Now that I think of it I don’t know anyone who likes Maher let alone love him.
30
HojMcFoj Mar 26, 2026 +6
Including Bill Maher...
6
k_realtor Mar 26, 2026 +3
He's basically a 90s version of Joe Rogan but with the tone of Seinfeld, artificial laughing audience, and smug yet angry centrist that complains about nothing.
3
Brilliant-Bus-3862 Mar 26, 2026 +57
Nah, he is winning the Trump Center Honors.
57
AudibleNod Mar 26, 2026 +5
I think the official prize is called: The [Donald Trump Never Laughs](https://slate.com/news-and-politics/2020/07/mary-trump-why-donald-trump-never-laughs.html) Award For Sticking It To Liberals And Saying the N-Word
5
Secret_Cow_5053 Mar 26, 2026 +43
You only (further) disgrace yourself accepting this now, Bill. Nobody cares.
43
3uphoric-Departure Mar 26, 2026 +10
Dude loves Trump, he definitely doesn’t think so
10
Secret_Cow_5053 Mar 26, 2026 +6
🤷‍♂️ he can hang out with kid rock and nicki manaj then. what a group of winners

3
AudibleNod Mar 26, 2026 +3
I wonder out loud, who passed on this after finding out that they'd have to be in the same room as Donald Trump's wet diaper to accept it before Bill Maher said 'yes'.
3
Secret_Cow_5053 Mar 26, 2026 +4
More than one, I’m certain.
4
SecondChances002 Mar 26, 2026 +2
I love that he's getting it just because the white house/Leavitt were adamant he wasn't getting it.
2
Meat-Dimension Mar 26, 2026 +10
One hand has no idea what the other is doing > Even with the award there was an issue as the White House initially denied a report in The Atlantic last week that said the prize was going to Mr. Maher. “This is fake news. Bill Maher will NOT be getting this award,” Karoline Leavitt, the White House press secretary, said in response to The Atlantic’s report.

emstason Mar 26, 2026 +4
She acts like the WH has any say in it. Do they think they control everything Kennedy center related?
4
Strange-Gold-3702 Mar 26, 2026 +10
Yes they do think that.
10
lethargytartare Mar 26, 2026 +2
they don't just think it
2
lethargytartare Mar 26, 2026 +7
you do know that Trump replaced the KC board of trustees right after he got elected, and had them appoint him the board chair, right?
7
emstason Mar 26, 2026 +1
Yes but I didn't realize the prize was awarded by the KC, I thought it was an outside group. But it's by the KC, then it's even more weird she denied it.
1
Meat-Dimension Mar 26, 2026 +4
The Kennedy Center hosts it, but it’s the producers of the ceremony who have decided the recipients generally. As to who is deciding now, they literally won’t say > The Kennedy Center on Thursday did not address questions about how the recipient of the Mark Twain honor is chosen. In past years, executives at the center have described a process involving Kennedy Center leadership and members of its board in consultation with producers of the show. Netflix has broadcast the show since 2024
4
sarduchi Mar 26, 2026 +29
Twain would hate this chode.
29
LikeALiamOnATree Mar 26, 2026 +18
Twain would probably also hate an award named after him
18
lethargytartare Mar 26, 2026 +4
not if he could monetize it
4
buddymoder Mar 26, 2026 +39
Unfunny """""centrist""""" hack
39
The100th_Idiot Mar 26, 2026 +24
Is it really centrism though? I know he calls himself that, but imo all centrists are just conservatives who think theyre the smartest in the room.
24
miyamotousagisan Mar 26, 2026 +9
I think that's why the quotes.

But...he doesn't tell jokes does he? I thought he just talked down to guests he disagreed with and glazed guests he agreed with
6
ii_V_I_iv Mar 26, 2026 +17
Feels like it degrades the meaning of the prize
17
ToNoMoCo Mar 26, 2026 +12
This has got to be the least significant awardee in the history of the award. His qualifications are he is older, was once a comedian and he sucked Trump's d***. He has no place on this list: Carol Burnett, George Carlin, Dave Chappelle, Billy Crystal, Ellen DeGeneres, Will Ferrell, Tina Fey, Whoopi Goldberg, Kevin Hart, Jay Leno, David Letterman, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Steve Martin, Lorne Michaels, Eddie Murphy, Bill Murray, Bob Newhart, Richard Pryor, Carl Reiner, Adam Sandler, Neil Simon, Jon Stewart, Lily Tomlin, Jonathan Winters
12
DungPedalerDDSEsq Mar 26, 2026 +5
And now he will be known as one of Trump's Kennedy Center D-listers.
5
boxelder1230 Mar 26, 2026 +6
He isn’t funny, or interesting.
6
yhwhx Mar 26, 2026 +9
Hopefully he'll take that as a reason to retire.
9
ChaoticSenior Mar 26, 2026 +8
Who is going to be there to honor him? Kid Rock?
8
clashrendar Mar 26, 2026 +3
In other news: Bill Maher gives Donald Trump $1 million...
3
ottermann Mar 26, 2026 +4
Bill Maher hasn't been funny since, well...ever...
4
Ill-Difference1672 Mar 26, 2026 +4
So now we all know why he sucked up to Cankles and had dinner.
4
Denman20 Mar 26, 2026 +4
All he does is b**** about millennials and complains how people raise their child the wrong way when he doesn’t have kids…
4
Capital-Control308 Mar 26, 2026 +6
The only classy thing to do is turn it down.
6
Hosko817 Mar 26, 2026 +5
He a scumbag. He's be slightly less of a scumbag if he turned it down.
5
versus_gravity Mar 26, 2026 +6
I didn't think that was an award for espousing wildly inconsistent takes on profound matters, but hey, congrats to Bill.
6
mrdominoe Mar 26, 2026 +6
Whatever pays the bills this week, I guess.
6
YesterShill Mar 26, 2026 +4
I cannot think of a better person to win this particular year.
4
UndertakerFred Mar 26, 2026 +4
I’m a little surprised that the president didn’t win it.

That thumbnail is awful I agree. The interesting part to me was that The White House last week called it fake news and said he was NOT getting the award.
2
JohnnyGFX Mar 26, 2026 +1
The Trump admin lied? Again? Who could have predicted that?!
1
O-parker Mar 26, 2026 +2
I like how the article refers to Mr Trump and not prez .
2
CanadianDiver Mar 26, 2026 +2
What is this mythical Kennedy Centre you refer to? Do you mean the Trump Centre?
2
Visual_Fly_9638 Mar 27, 2026 +2
Legitimately the funniest thing he's done in 15 years.
2
EquinsuOcha Mar 26, 2026 +6
Wins? Did he have to put in an application? Pay a fee? Submit an essay? Maher is an untalented centrist contrarian hack. He deserves obscurity, not recognition.
6
Future_Speed9727 Mar 26, 2026 +4
Dipshit award to a dipshit. Sorta like giving the orange one a plastic participation trophy.
4
EpicMeatSpin Mar 26, 2026 +3
He’s the only guy who looks like a dork while holding a joint.
3
che-che-chester Mar 26, 2026 +3
I'm sure they had a meeting to decide what Dem or independent they can honor so it's not all Kid Rock and Jon Voight. See, we're being non-partisan! I'm confident your top celebs would turn it down and anyone who gets it during the Trump years will forever have an asterisk beside their name. And when you look at the list of past honorees, Bill Maher would never in a million years have ever been honored if not for Trump. But remember, Bill: like Lucy with the football, they'll yank this away at the last minute as punishment if you don't stay in line. I wouldn't be remotely surprised if Bill made a joke Trump hated and they canceled it the night before the ceremony.
3
Smart_Recipe_8223 Mar 26, 2026 +3
LMAO this hack? The guy who knows nothing, is consistently wrong, and parrots right wing talking points? The guy who has to beg for applause? The guy who platforms terrible people? Fits trumps Kennedy center I guess

It's called the Trump Kennedy Center now. Of course it's going to go to a fight wing hack.
1
Inner_University_848 Mar 27, 2026 +1
Why can’t anyone imagine him having audience? Would they prefer a Democrat or Republican who just was 100% agenda based who never questions their own party? (Don’t we have enough of those especially now on the Trump MAGA bandwagon…) In a world of extreme partisanship and loyalty to your political ideology and “team,” sometimes mindlessly, far more mindless competition than even drunken fans at team sports…. it’s always nice to think that some people can sometimes disagree with their own team when their team is clearly in the wrong…
1
WhenTheDevilCome Mar 26, 2026 +1
Did he *actually* get the prize, though? Or is this just something he has long sought, but never earned, and instead found someone willing to give up their previously-awarded medal to him? Sad as it might sound that anyone could ever be that shallow.
1
AuriolMFC Mar 26, 2026 -7
from all the night shiters doing stuff on tv this is the most down to earth he calls out the bullshit on both sides so he gets hate from both extreme sides
-7
DuskOfANewAge Mar 26, 2026 +1
People don't like truth around these parts. Can't you tell the internet is all echo chambers these days? Don't try breaking into their bubble, they don't like information that contradicts their preconceived bias. The people here pretending they are the "normies" for shitting on Maher for offering a centrist view are definitely not normal. They're exactly what's wrong with this country. So partisan they can't even tell how far they've leaned to one side anymore.
