Don't worry, there's plenty of rich around.

VagrantShadow May 1, 2026 +258
So many in the American farming community supported and spread the word for trump because they believed he was the man who knew what would be the right path for the American farmer market. A narcissist from the big cities that never spent an entire day on a farm a single day in his life.
258
Shelala85 May 1, 2026 +58
Didn’t he screw over farmers the first time?
58
VagrantShadow May 1, 2026 +37
Funny enough, I remember maga heads at that time in the first term saying his direction when it came to farms was getting controlled by Hillary. They do not want to say it's trumps own actions, somehow the democrats have way more power than they let on and are able to control him while he is in office.
37
Bagellord May 1, 2026 +25
Everything bad = Democrats. Anything good, even if it's only for the richest of the rich = Republicans
25
gus_thedog May 1, 2026 +25
Yeah, but they got a bailout.

It still boggles my mind how the decision of those (trumpers and non-viters) people has lasting consequences for people all across the globe.
35
LowerRhubarb May 1, 2026 +47
It's almost like leadership of one of the most influential nations on the planet being handed over to a dementia ridden grifting pedophile compromised by Russia since the 80's is a bad idea or something.
47
BlackMan9693 May 1, 2026 +8
I get that. The fact that it has continued for so long without any counter to it is what makes this absurd. One of the most developed nations on the planet, getting wrecked this fast and easy while also spreading chaos to the rest of the world. I thought we were past that kind of nonsense but this reality check was a little too swift.
8
LowerRhubarb May 1, 2026 +11
The reality is the Republicans are complicit and enabling, and the Democrats are just as likely benefitting from the constant market swings due to politicians being largely in it for themselves rather than any actual concern for the country. Everyone probably has the same plan at this point: Make as much as you can, and flee when it all goes to shit.
11
IamDDT May 2, 2026 +3
I really want to disagree, but with all the insider trading that is *known* to occur, it's hard to do so. I tend to lean more to the incompetent argument, but I am willing to be convinced.
3
Khaldara May 1, 2026 +10
Hell there are states within the country, like Massachusetts and CT that have been saying no to these aspiring fascists for forty years now, every cycle since Reagan, and THEY get dragged along for the Conservative vision of turning every state in the nation into Mississippi. It’s just straight up propaganda at this point. This country is so stupid they thought “I was told there would be no fact checking” was a statement that would bode incredibly well for policy outcomes. The GOP’s decades long war on education has resulted in a constituency literally too stupid to function.
10
IamDDT May 2, 2026 +2
The people aren't used to having to care. That and general frustration with the political class made people stay home in 2024. You can say that they were stupid for doing so, and yes, you would be correct. They didn't think about the consequences of their actions. It was the wrong time and place to fight that fight if we didn't want to end up with Trump. If it was someone like McCain, or even Romney, I could be convinced. But Trump?
2
SouthernAddress5051 May 1, 2026 +29
They will end up selling their farms to large corporations for pennies on the dollar and that's exactly what they voted for.
29
TrumpnEpstein May 1, 2026 +18
He's the literal embodiment of what rural conservatives think about the "coastal elites"
18
TauCabalander May 1, 2026 +11

Caymonki May 1, 2026 +24
Farmers deserve to suffer, they are the handout queens who look down on the “poor” yet all these food programs ensure they have a market to sell their goods to. They are gleefully shooting themselves in the foot thinking they’re going to benefit from cutting programs (thinking they’ll get more government handouts) but they lost their c**** and efficient workforce to ICE, tariffs have ruined the market on beef and veggies, trade wars have removed entire markets (china) and the Iran war will skyrocket fuel and fertilizer along with machinery and parts. They could have hitched their wagons to a party that wanted to support them but they couldn’t be racist if they did that so here we are. It sucks to be in the fallout of their choices but they deserve it, they wanted it they get it.
24
UnknownAverage May 1, 2026 +3
"He's going to make food scarce and expensive? Surely that means I'll become rich, since I will be producing so much food and I can't think of anything that could interfere with that because I'm so independent and self-sufficient."
3
doneandtired2014 May 1, 2026 +12
What f****** infuriates me the most is that those same farmers saw what he did to their soybean growing associates (i.e. permanently turbo fucked them out of their largest customers and pushed them into bankruptcy) and went, "Mm...won't happen to me." F*** the farming community and rural Americans in general, I hope their Mango God Emperor ruins them for multiple generations.
12
LowerRhubarb May 1, 2026 +10
It doesn't matter, they'll never admit it was the Republicans that screwed them. They're a cult of idiocy, nothing cracks the brainlessness of them.
10
doneandtired2014 May 1, 2026 +8
It's not that they'll ever admit it because that implies they recognize they fucked up but are too proud to admit it. They genuinely do not care if Republicans f*** them, all that matters is "owning the libs".

S2G the orange obscenity broke the world The reckoning can't come soon enough
69
AjDuke9749 May 1, 2026 +18
The reckoning will never come, at least not at home (US). He has completely insulated himself from consequences and has broken the systems of government. Too many people blindly support him even when they b**** and moan about things he’s doing. The reckoning won’t come until after he is dead.
18
Malaix May 1, 2026 +10
Eh giving him a little too much credit. The systems were always broken. They were just never tested like this before. Our precious checks and balances were basically a cut ground wire the entire time.
10
AjDuke9749 May 1, 2026 +3
Yeah I never said our systems were robust. But we’ve never had a person who disregarded everything that made our government work. He has also, somehow, insulated himself from any consequences. No significant penalty or jail time for 34 felonies, no penalties for hiding classified documents, no penalties for defying subpoenas, no penalties for causing a violent insurrection, no significant penalties for his shady and illegal business dealings. I could keep going. But our reckoning won’t come until we face the rise in facist beliefs and Christian nationalism.

PleaseGreaseTheL May 3, 2026 +1
Its just not true. If you have the majority of government in any country decide that the way gov functions should change, thats just kinda happening. People think its because american government was especially weak. It is actually be because the american politicians are especially evil and have been for decades, now a lot of their plans are paying off at once.

bornlasttuesday May 1, 2026 +24
Call it what it is, trumps war.
24
Aurizen_Darkstar May 1, 2026 +72
Starvation is all part and parcel of this regime. You can’t tell me that this wasn’t all part of the plan with starting the war in Iran. The idiots running the country right now want massive unrest, so that they can have a reason for clamping down on the public with military force.

ParameciaAntic May 1, 2026 +49
Interesting that this Administration just gutted the [Office of Net Assessment](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Office_of_Net_Assessment) that analyzed longterm consequences of conflicts.
49
UnknownAverage May 1, 2026 +13
There's a serious problem: when someone hears that fuel and food prices are skyrocketing due to shortages, most people are horrified but many people's eyes turn into cartoon dollar signs. It's an opportunity for greedy people to take advantage of inelastic demand for food, heat, shelter, etc. It motivates them to *create* situations of shortage and inequality. The people of America selected for us a government that exploits vulnerable people for the purpose of funneling wealth to the friends and family of those governing at the top. Trump brags about how rich "we" will get from rising oil prices. Nobody reading this is part of that "we."
13
doneandtired2014 May 1, 2026 +3
Even if it isn't the intended goal of the administration, it \*IS\* the goal of their tech bro and ultra billionaire donors. More than a few have mused openly how much better it would be if 3/4s of the American population no longer existed.
3
oloughlin3 May 1, 2026 +13
They’re not smart enough to have come up with what you are suggesting.
13
External-Praline-451 May 1, 2026 +39
The Project 2025 people are smart, unfortunately. Evil and crazy, but smart.
39
EmbarrassedW33B May 1, 2026 +5
Smart is debatable. These weirdos already had defacto control of the country and the economy. All their cringe project 2025 and pet Trump are doing is eroding America as a super power, thereby eroding their own power. Its f****** idiotic
5
doneandtired2014 May 1, 2026 +13
That in of itself is one of their goals: tearing down the US, crippling it, and isolating it from the world at large both economically and militarily with the intent of ruling over it as some hybrid of Putin's Russia with "Iran if the Ayatollah was Dan Wilson".
13
External-Praline-451 May 1, 2026 +8
Smart doesn't mean good, they are clever enough to have got the power they wanted. They shouldn't be underestimated or dismissed as being stupid. But yes, they are completely deranged!
8
Aurizen_Darkstar May 1, 2026 +17
Trump may not be, but someone like Vought most definitely is. He’s the mind behind the blueprint for American dictatorship, Project 2025.
17
Consistent-Throat130 May 1, 2026 +12
Do not make the mistake of underestimating them, no matter how stupid the actions may appear at face value. This regime is dangerous, and clearly their "stupid/insane" actions have granted them power.
12
KimmyT1436 May 1, 2026 +9
Never underestimate the power of stupid to do irreparable harm. Trump and his enablers are genuinely arrogant and stupid enough to think that if they burn America to the ground they will be kings in the ashes.
9
VagrantShadow May 1, 2026 +4
In the words of George Carlin. >"Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups." - George Carlin We are going to witness trump, his minions, his cultist, and his supporters do serious damage for the world for generations to come.
4
Caymonki May 1, 2026 +8
Entire think tanks have been working on this for decades, the heritage foundation are not fools, they are evil but not stupid. They have a different end game objective than most people, if you’re aware of their goals a lot of this makes sense. Keep the anger and the focus on Trump and his cronies and let them work in the background, it’s literally their plan.
8
jigokubi May 1, 2026 +1
My personal theory is that all of this because Iran plotted to whack the President, just like the Iraq war was because Saddam threatened GW's dad. Trump got his revenge by killing the Ayatollah, and any collateral damage, be it lives or people starving or high gas prices, is perfectly okay with him
1
bb_kelly77 May 1, 2026 +1
Except the military is also starving, in fact it's already happening which makes them unlikely to protect the government
1
CyberneticPanda May 1, 2026 +1
You think there was a plan?
1
BaggyHairyNips 5 days ago +1
I think you're given them too much credit. They just didn't think about consequences. Trump wanted to do something memorable for his LeGaCy and just hoped things would work out.
1

The rich start wars the poor always suffer either fighting them or the crippling ripple wars cause especially for those already fighting to stay afloat
20
trisw May 1, 2026 +5
I would bet this could be market propaganda - Morraco and China have the largest reserves and exports of phosphorus, Canada has the highest amount of exports for potash -- none of which need to go thru the Strait.
5
blifflesplick May 1, 2026 +7
Yeahhh but America isn't the most popular its been lately  No one HAS to sell to them, and the orange cancer has torn up trade agreements all over the place sooo -a Canadian who misses when things were boring
7
GreatPlainsFarmer May 2, 2026 +2
The original source was talking globally. The numbers given were about 5% of global food production. That’s a reasonable estimate.
2
sonicneedslovetoo May 2, 2026 +1
Last I heard China has been restricting some of their exports related to stuff like this, that was back in March though.

I'm the farthest thing from a prepper, but stuff like this is why I bought 25-pound bags of rice and of multi-bean soup mix, along with a couple airtight buckets/containers for storage. I already tend to cook a fair amount of rice and beans, so I'll use them.
1
blifflesplick May 1, 2026 +1
Make sure you do stuff to dissuade weevils and similar - freezing it for a few days can get a lot of it, oxygen absorbers also help
1
Saloau May 1, 2026 +1
If you plant a crop without fertilizer are the crops unable to grow or just produce less? I’m assuming the soil is worn out with factory farming and needs the boost to produce anything?
1
blifflesplick May 1, 2026 +1
Weaker, slower to grow, thinner support, much more prone to damage from wind, sun, disease, and bugs Imagine a kid or animal fed nothing but empty calories, what will they build their bodies from? Same problem
1
joe-bagadonuts May 2, 2026 +1
So the average American diet?
1
blifflesplick May 3, 2026 +1
I was thinking Haitian
1
GreatPlainsFarmer May 2, 2026 +1
It all depends on the crop and the location. Grains need nitrogen to fill their seeds. Without that, you get small shriveled grain. Legumes, such as soybeans, fix their own nitrogen, and often aren’t fertilized at all. All crops need phosphate and potassium, but those are more slowly releasing nutrients. Most US farmland holds several years worth of them. So farmers can skip a year with little concern. It’s the second and third years without fresh P & K fertilizer when problems start to show up. The problem is real, but it’s going to be very spread out.
1
blifflesplick May 1, 2026 +1
And the resentment against America, even by Canadians (we have a lot of potash)
1
richincleve May 1, 2026 +1
Thank God the new farm bill will give them a shitload of money, right? RIGHT!?!?!?

start shorting the meals for service members. see how quickly they stop fighting this idiotic war for a pedophile. I don't see why i need to pay for meals for people complicit in a pedophile's personal conflict.
