Billy Crystal Delivers Emotional Rob Reiner Tribute at Oscars and Is Joined by Meg Ryan, Kathy Bates, Demi Moore, Jerry O’Connell and More: ‘What Fun We Had’
> “I met Mr. Rob Reiner when I was cast as his best friend in an episode of ‘All in the Family’ and it went so well that Rob said, ‘It was fun playing your best friend. Why don’t we keep it going?’ And it was a thrill to see him evolve from a great comic actor to a master storyteller,” Crystal began.
> Crystal then went through a rundown of Reiner’s filmography, from “This Is Spinal Tap” to “The Sure Thing,” “The Princess Bride,” “Stand By Me,” “Misery” and more. The actor added: “My friend Rob’s movies will last for lifetimes because they were about what makes us laugh and cry and what we aspire to be: Far better in his eyes, far kinder, far funnier, and far more human… to the millions who have enjoyed his films all these years, I want you to know here and around the world, how many times Rob told me that it meant everything to him that his work meant something to you. And for us who had the privilege of working with and knowing him and loving him, all we can say is, buddy, what fun we had storming the castle.”

What a great tribute, and love the “Have fun storming the Castle” from Billy in “The Princess Bride”. Amazing pillars of comedy, and he was married to Lavern from Lavern and Shirley. This is like losing Phil Hartman but even more tragic.

A great tribute and also f*** Donald Trump for being such a petty and small man that a father and mother being slain by their son couldn’t even stop him from taking one final dig at them.

I couldn’t believe John Cusack was there. Haven’t seen him around in anything Hollywood related in forever. I miss his movies.

Billy Crystal was great. How come there wasn't a pan shot or any closeups of all the stars there at the Rob Reiner tribute. This show had problems with sound throughout, and also whoever was pushing the director buttons. All the stars there for the tribute were shot from behind, and then without an establishing shot, they turned around to look at the memoriam screen. I realize their rehearsal time was probably limited, but still, some shots of those paying tribute should have been longer.

Mentioned in the article - he wasn’t invited maybe because of his outspoken comments in the past. Asked fans to not spend time protesting or even referencing him in this moment and he will honor Rob in his own way. EDIT: Spelling
