Rather, it would be more along the lines of "fell on a nail several dozens of times", or maybe went Ajax Telamonides and fell on a ~~sword~~ knife. For instance, Russian hoodlums, the gopniks, love using such an explanation whenever there's a stabbing either at streets or in prisons.

I use to live near a psychiatric facility (in my nation, not Russia) and they had bars on all the windows. We use to know which kids would sneak in to swim in their outdoor pool because it was heavily chlorinated and as such turn their blonde hair green.

Yes their history is generally pretty f’d up going back to at least the Mongolians doing their thing. The Democratic experiment of the 90s was a blip. That was the time to bail out the Russian economy and the west missed the boat and opened the door for Putin.

ContrarianDoucheMar 19, 2026

>That was the time to bail out the Russian economy and the west missed the boat and opened the door for Putin.
There's an argument to be made that Putin made his name on the democratic reforms and moving the oligarchy from the Mafia to the Kremlin. He played nice with the west and got the benefits of Western integration to make the Russian populace love him, while massively enriching himself and his cronies and consolidating power into his own hands.
Then Bill Browder and Hermitage Capital exposed a massive theft of Russian Treasury funds by Putin's oligarchs and he had to shift to a more confrontational stance with the West to tamp down his internal issues.

Yes, since forever. It's a constantly failing "state". A quirk that relies on the Slavic love for misery and abilty to endure it. Acquired by hiding in miserable marshlands for about 2,000 years. And then getting pelted nonstop from all directions upon emerging on the worldstage, and walking into near-empty lands to colonise them right before and after shit hit the fan.
