Not that I was ever planning to do crime, but commiting crime and getting away with it is harder than ever these days. Back in the day it was much easier for people to just disappear without a trace. Now there are phones tracking movement, cameras everywhere, search history, modern forensics etc. Whoever this idiot is never stood a chance of getting away with it. And he had her ubered to his house the night of the murder. Uber has logs from her parents house, to his house. A week prior got the saw and body bag on Amazon. There's 10,000,000 electronic records of evidence back to him. Wanted to get caught, or is the laziest dumbest m*********** on earth.

Also a chainsaw is just NOT the type of saw you want to use. The amount of raw viscera that is going to be flung everywhere all but insures that evidence will be found.

Here in Canada there was a trust fund brat who was convicted of murdering several people including his father and a random guy selling a truck on Craigslist. One of the victims was his girlfriend, and (before he was arrested) he and his partner in crime actually wrote and recorded a rap song talking in explicit detail about how they killed and incinerated her.

They don’t usually, unless the client insists . They’re trying for the best outcome , not the impossible. For exemple , they could have tried to claim she died accidentally and he panicked and hid the body. Of course that’s before the proof that he bought the body bag *before* the night she died

That's the thing, though -- he *didn't* do any prep work. I don't think there was any point in this horror story where you could say there was a coherent long-term plan for what to do.

She had run away 3 times in the last year of her life and was reported all 3 times. The final time of course she was murdered.

I have a TON of sympathy for her family. I don’t think you’ve been following this story in the slightest if you think they did nothing to try to help. People who cared about her reported her missing each and every time she ran away to be with him, tried to take away her phone and cut off her communication with him, and reported him to the proper authorities multiple times. They gathered evidence themselves and reached out for community help both in their own community and online. Yet those resources they tried to use let them down and never investigated or took things seriously for whatever reason. Her family isn’t rich or powerful at all. They couldn’t use connections to force law enforcement to act and they didn’t have money for a lawyer. Her parents weren’t in a stable relationship, which left her other family members to do quite a bit of the work. They did what they could in this situation.

Literally every single adult in this girl’s life failed her.

The only thing mentioned about the parents is that they took her phone away so he couldn't contact her. He paid another student to hand her a phone in class. I wouldn't assume the parents were aware or supportive of her getting in an uber.

Because obtaining all that information and sorting through what's relevant and what isn't, and then creating a timeline takes months. You're seeing a curated amount of evidence, not the hundreds of thousands of documents that had to be sorted, read, highlighted, and aligned to curate that evidence.

Really? You actually articulated why it's taken so long perfectly. There's loads of evidence. It would be concerning if they took 7 months and then came forward with no new evidence, but they've already disclosed loads of new evidence, and it's clear there was a whole lot to go through. This is what you have to do when you know the person you're charging is going to have a really expensive legal defense and a very public trial.

I can imagine them being useful for storing lots of things, I think one of the reviews said they used them for storing their fake Christmas tree.
