Body bag bought online was part of d4vd’s scheme to kill 14-year-old to hide his sexual abuse, prosecutors say | CNN
Prosecutors have laid out a detailed and grisly timeline in their case against singer d4vd, who is accused of sexually abusing Celeste Rivas Hernandez starting when she was 13, then fatally stabbing her when she – at 14 years old – threatened to expose their relationship.

That is an incredibly stupid thing to do. Not as stupid as murdering someone. And still just so, so stupid.

EmployeeNo4241 Apr 30, 2026 +851
What about keeping her chopped up body in his personal car parked on a public street long enough to get towed.  Maybe at least park the shit in the garage until you find somewhere to hide the body? Almost like he wanted to get caught.

Are you suggesting he perhaps had poor judgement or a not great grasp on the long term consequences of his actions?

Those Epstein File dudes condone most of D4VD’s actions, he merely needed a boat or private island.

Ironically enough D4VD's father works for the law firm that represented Epstein.

Fun fact: that’s the reason he doesn’t wear them anymore

Dillweed999 May 1, 2026 +4
Didn't he move to Russia like Steven Segal?
4
CouldNotRememberName May 1, 2026 +5
No. But he wanted to! Married a Crimean, held up a sign that said "Crimea= Russia", expressed intrest in moving there. I think it got several of his European concerts canceled and a ban from Ukraine.
5
Dillweed999 May 1, 2026 +5
That's somehow sadder?

All he's gotta do is praise Trump from prison and he'll be pardoned, standing beside him during a public rally in months.

Ki-to-Life-5054 Apr 30, 2026 +123
Dude was stupid enough to cut her up with a chainsaw in an inflatable pool he also bought for that purpose.
123
dreamsofaninsomniac Apr 30, 2026 +84
He was pretty stupid before that since he never really hid they had a relationship together. She was on live videos with him and traveled with him. She met his family. No plausible deniability. How did he think it was going to end?
84
theycallmemomo Apr 30, 2026 +55
Dude wrote a song called "Romantic Homicide"
55
madmofo145 Apr 30, 2026 +73
Yeah, the details are all terrible but this is also the dumbest murder I've ever heard of. Chops up body for disposal, put's it in the car in May, still there in July when we leaves it on a public street, get's towed in August, I imagine they attempt to contact the owner, that's ignored and the body is found a month later. I've never heard of a murderer getting caught before due to months of procrastinating.
73
deepasleep Apr 30, 2026 +23
Where was the girl’s family? Did they have no idea she’d last been with him?
23
madmofo145 May 1, 2026 +33
The reports suggest they did. Yeah, there is a very weird thing where it's shocking how long it took to investigate him. You'd think older "boyfriend" she'd been in a fight with would be prime suspect. He was even trying to throw off investigators by sending messages to her phone about how she'd failed to show up to their meeting, which again, should have really lead to him being the prime suspect if their was any investigation going on. This also seems to be a case of really bad police work tell the body was found. He'd left a crazy trail like paying for an uber to his house for her the night she was killed.
33
dorkofthepolisci May 1, 2026 +37
Unfortunately she wasn’t from an upper middle class family in an upper middle class neighborhood This is pretty on par for how police deal with missing teens they deem to be runaways
37
Vegetable_Good6866 Apr 30, 2026 +44
Did he cut up her whole body or just remove fingers with tattoos, I couldn't tell from article. I hear from listening to too much true crime that a chainsaw is horrible for dismembering people, the hair and flesh gum it up
44
ShameSudden6275 Apr 30, 2026 +75
The prosecution said she was "dismembered by not decapitated" so my guess is he probably cut up the limbs and took a finger, but had trouble with the head and torso.
75
Alicewithhazeleyes May 1, 2026 +9
He cut all her limbs off, then in half again

That's what I'm saying. For a guy obsessed with murder, he really didn't try to hide that it was him. I think an insanity plea is coming.
38
finnjakefionnacake May 1, 2026 +4
i highly doubt it, they'd have a hard time proving that considering his entire life up until that point, and then all the premeditation and (attempting to) cover-up.

10

Yeah, so many aspects. Youtube "stardom" in some oddball niche. His parasocial relationship with a fan. Etc. etc. Ordering a body bag *online* is just bananas.
76
aigret May 1, 2026 +48
It's genuinely so unbelievable I want to go on Amazon and search for body bags but I'd really rather not have to explain my search history one day, or know what that will do to my algorithm in the meantime. Like what is the appropriate, non-commercial use for a body bag?! Why are they sold on Amazon??

Pippin1505 Apr 30, 2026 +67
There’s an old case in France where a woman *rented* an electric saw the day after she had a very loud argument with her husband, who disappeared that very night. Her version was that he left suddenly. This was pre DNA so she got away with the murder itself (no body was ever found) but still went to jail on other charges (like hiding evidence etc)
67
redhairbluetruck May 1, 2026 +23
I saw one where they rented a wood chipper. It was actually solved when they found one single tooth that didn’t get shredded. Wild.
23
internetlad Apr 30, 2026 +49
Ngl returning the shovel might be a big brain move if the cops come around and you say "yeah I don't even own a shovel" and the shovel is in some other dudes shed two counties away.  I bet Zodiac returned the shovel .
49
pixelprophet Apr 30, 2026 +30
Or you could have just left it on the side of the road. I've picked up 'free' rake and a framing hammer that were on the shoulder of the road 🤷‍♂️
30
Asaneth May 1, 2026 +5
I remember a case where the perpetrator was caught because they scanned their store d******* club card to get a tiny d******* off the cleanup spuppies after the murder.
5
MrBarraclough Apr 30, 2026 +84
He bought a shovel from his local Home Depot, paid for it online, and had it delivered to his house. It's like he was completely unaware that companies keep records.
84
thatjerkatwork Apr 30, 2026 +47
Not that I was ever planning to do crime, but commiting crime and getting away with it is harder than ever these days. Back in the day it was much easier for people to just disappear without a trace. Now there are phones tracking movement, cameras everywhere, search history, modern forensics etc. Whoever this idiot is never stood a chance of getting away with it. Too f****** dumb to realize it though.
47
Tall_poppee Apr 30, 2026 +37
And really all he had to do was pacify her for a while, she was threatening to expose him because she was jealous of other women he was seeing. She was very young, I assume in love, and vulnerable to the kind of nonsense this type of guy can spew. She probably wasn't that hard to manipulate, that he could have kept her in his back pocket for years. Pull an R Kelly and marry her secretly. But guy clearly wasn't smart enough for that even.
37
MCStarlight Apr 30, 2026 +35
So disturbing. She was a child.
35
Tall_poppee Apr 30, 2026 +29
It really is sooooo awful I feel so bad for her, and her family obviously. Parents tried to intervene and took away her phone. This guy got her a secret phone with help of one of her friends. Hope that friend never gets over the guilt of setting someone up to be the victim of a predator. Sometimes kids, your parents DO know what is best for you.

What a f****** genius. Kill someone, leave a giant, obvious paper trail online, and then just keep the body in the trunk of your car. If this was a Law and Order episode people would complain that the writing was bad because no one would actually be this stupid.
153
adx931 Apr 30, 2026 +36
The difference between reality and fiction is that reality doesn't have to make sense.
36
SofieTerleska Apr 30, 2026 +9
It's like the plot point in *Goodfellas* where the heist car gets towed because the guy who was supposed to dispose of it ended up parking next to the fire hydrant. It sounds ridiculous, but it happened.
9
DeMarcusQ Apr 30, 2026 +1527
When this story first broke last year, I really thought to myself, "he's gotta be being set-up or something because no one is this stupid." I'm not saying that criminals are smart or anything but... Remains found in YOUR vehicle parked in front of YOUR house. The remains are YOUR underage victim whom YOU wrote songs about murking. Now we find out YOU bought two chainsaws and a body bag. He should've just wrote a song called "I did it. No seriously, I did it. This is not a song title, this is a confession."

Not parked in front of his house, but rather abandoned in an on-street parking space elsewhere. Not really any less stupid, though. It's the body of his girlfriend (or ex-girlfriend) in a car registered to him, apparently abandoned right around the same time he left town on tour. Either this idiot was completely unaware of how ordering things online (Uber, Amazon, etc.) leaves a massive trail of records, or he simply didn't know how to function in the world without doing f****** everything through a smartphone. Even when he bought a shovel from his local Home Depot, he did it online and had it *f****** delivered* to his house.
255
Persimmon-Mission Apr 30, 2026 +121

> And.... aren't Teslas covered in cameras? yeah, but from other comments, their recordings dont last forever.
9
AbrahamKMonroe Apr 30, 2026 +42
If anything, I think abandoning it in a random parking space makes the whole crime even *dumber*.
42
centipededamascus Apr 30, 2026 +67
I think it should be pointed out that this girl was very much an underage child, and calling her his "girlfriend" implies she had the capacity to consent to the relationship.
67
MrBarraclough May 1, 2026 +7
Pretty sure we're all well aware of that. In the instant context, the purpose of using "girlfriend" is to highlight the known association between them, which simply adds to the absurdity of any notion he might have had that the body in the trunk of his car wouldn't immediately be traced back to him.
7
Soliloquitude May 1, 2026 +8
Not only that, he drove a Tesla. A car that famously has automatic security cameras. Like the ones that captured him as the last driver of the vehicle.
8
Street_Anxiety2907 Apr 30, 2026 +68
And he had her ubered to his house the night of the murder. Uber has logs from her parents house, to his house. A week prior got the saw and body bag on Amazon. There's 10,000,000 electronic records of evidence back to him. Wanted to get caught, or is the laziest dumbest m*********** on earth.
68
froggertwenty Apr 30, 2026 +11
Technically they don't know what night the murder occurred. It could be inferred, but from what they've released they don't know. That is one point the defense can push on, not that it's likely to be successful with everything else they have.
11
vermilithe May 1, 2026 +6
It’s been inferred but I think the evidence is pretty strong— they have the timestamps of when Celeste’s uber picked up at her parents’ house then dropped off at his place, I believe they also have CCTV of her walking towards his house too. But despite that, he texted her ~an hour after she arrived saying something like “Where are you?” + over the next few days, made a flurry of purchases for the body disposal supplies + his GPS tracked him dumping Celeste’s belongings in the wilderness. Police argue that text is basically the first act of cover up, his actions after strengthen that conclusion, so imo, the timeline is pretty solid atp.

4
Rejestered Apr 30, 2026 +150
Also a chainsaw is just NOT the type of saw you want to use. The amount of raw viscera that is going to be flung everywhere all but insures that evidence will be found.

Bright-Hat-6405 May 1, 2026 +16
Well… her body was in a freezer for a while before it was dismembered. Additionally, blue bits of plastic material were found embedded in her wounds so, she could’ve been covered with something It wasn’t his intellect that was the issue, it was his narcissism. He didn’t think he’d get caught. He’s a psychopath. He reenacted funerals during his shows while on tour
16
vermilithe May 1, 2026 +9
The blue bits of plastic material at the disarticulation sites matched an inflatable swimming pool, which authorities believe was intended to catch blood, etc. during the dismemberment… It is, in my opinion, still really obviously stupid to think a plastic inflatable pool would be enough to prevent crime scene contamination while using a chainsaw like that…

Here in Canada there was a trust fund brat who was convicted of murdering several people including his father and a random guy selling a truck on Craigslist. One of the victims was his girlfriend, and (before he was arrested) he and his partner in crime actually wrote and recorded a rap song talking in explicit detail about how they killed and incinerated her.
68
ArchmageXin Apr 30, 2026 +49
Or the creepo that murdered a Chinese grad student in Chicago, then go to the wake and said "the killer could be among us" Sheesh.

23
Alpaca_Investor Apr 30, 2026 +15
The crazy thing is, he got away with it for so long.  The girlfriend was working as an e***** so the police basically didn’t take her being missing very seriously (despite at least one person who knew the woman telling police he was specifically concerned that Millard killed her). And the dad’s death was made to look like a suicide so police didn’t investigate much.  It was only after he killed the guy selling his truck online that he got caught, because he was caught with the guy’s truck.
15
vermilithe May 1, 2026 +5
Police take their jobs seriously without victim blaming vulnerable women to dismiss their concerns challenge, impossible edition. Yeah, that was a really sad case because it really feels like several victims could have been saved if police took early reports more seriously

They don’t usually, unless the client insists . They’re trying for the best outcome , not the impossible. For exemple , they could have tried to claim she died accidentally and he panicked and hid the body. Of course that’s before the proof that he bought the body bag *before* the night she died

It's not even about calculating. He did some planning, sending text to her cell phone to imply she never arrived. Yeah I’m pretty sure one guy got away with turning over his sex slave to an angry mob to save his own skin. They promptly raped her to death and left him alone. He then mutilated her body. His actions were apparently perfectly legal at the time although they did lead to outrage.

This guy did so much prep work for this murder, and seemingly not a moment of that time was spent doing something that would actually help him cover his tracks.
131
SofieTerleska Apr 30, 2026 +48
That's the thing, though -- he *didn't* do any prep work. The timeline actually starts with her death on (probably) April 23 and then throughout the following week he was ordering [a shovel, chainsaws and a body bag](https://www.nbclosangeles.com/news/local/celeste-rivas-hernandez-timeline/3878366/) to be delivered to his house. I don't think there was any point in this horror story where you could say there was a coherent long-term plan for what to do.
48
F-I-R-E-B-A-L-L May 1, 2026 +25
To have killed her in the first place was the dumbest thing he could've possibly done. He was always gonna be the prime suspect, cuz Celeste had left her family for him; they'd thought she had gone missing for months before being she was seen with him a few months later. I don't know how he could've possibly believed he could get away with murdering her when he's probably the only person who could see her and have a motive to kill her.

"He is innocent, his attorney said after his arraignment: Evidence “will show that David Burke did not murder Celeste Rivas Hernandez and he was not the cause of her death,” lawyer Blair Berk said." "D4vd “amputated her left ring and pinky fingers because her ring finger contained a tattoo of his name,” the filing says. “Her fingers have not been recovered.”" My brother in Christ I understand it's the duty of a lawyer to defend the innocence of his client and/or to work the system to get the best deal you can for the client But this mofo did everything but use his phone to search "how do I, d4vd, dispose of the corpse of my girlfriend, age 14 (already dismembered her in my kiddie pool)"

dumbest pedo rapist psychopath ever! Dude didn't even try to hide his sexual relationship with a 12yo girl. And wtf is wrong with every single one in his entourage & friend group! They had to know she was a middle school kid getting molested. Somehow they normalized it, like kiddy diddling is okay as long as you're famous & making bank & abusing fangirls.

2greenlimes Apr 30, 2026 +168
I have a TON of sympathy for her family. I don’t think you’ve been following this story in the slightest if you think they did nothing to try to help. People who cared about her reported her missing each and every time she ran away to be with him, tried to take away her phone and cut off her communication with him, and reported him to the proper authorities multiple times. They gathered evidence themselves and reached out for community help both in their own community and online. Yet those resources they tried to use let them down and never investigated or took things seriously for whatever reason. Her family isn’t rich or powerful at all. They couldn’t use connections to force law enforcement to act and they didn’t have money for a lawyer. Her parents weren’t in a stable relationship, which left her other family members to do quite a bit of the work. They did what they could in this situation.
168
eekamuse Apr 30, 2026 +54
Thank you for this. All the blame goes to the murderer. No one who comments about the parents failing her knows anything you mentioned. They never do. They rush to judgement, and assume it could never happen to them. I hate that those poor people whose daughter was brutally killed and abused before that will forever have people blame them.

foxontherox Apr 30, 2026 +160
Literally every single adult in this girl’s life failed her.

DrSpaceman575 Apr 30, 2026 +59
The only thing mentioned about the parents is that they took her phone away so he couldn't contact her. He paid another student to hand her a phone in class. I wouldn't assume the parents were aware or supportive of her getting in an uber.
59

64
skoobesnacks Apr 30, 2026 +28
What about HIS parents that she was seen with?
28
DrSpaceman575 Apr 30, 2026 +27
I read the article about this yesterday. Lots of detail about when they met, what he texted her, items he ordered. They had every detail of him paying a student to hand her a phone so he could text her, him ordering an uber from his phone to pick her up, him ordering chainsaws from Postmates to be delivered to his house, him ordering a burn cage, etc. They have so much detail and it seems like he didn't even try to cover his tracks, and yet it took months for him to be arrested. I honestly can not understand why.
27
Harley2280 Apr 30, 2026 +27
Because obtaining all that information and sorting through what's relevant and what isn't, and then creating a timeline takes months. You're seeing a curated amount of evidence, not the hundreds of thousands of documents that had to be sorted, read, highlighted, and aligned to curate that evidence.
27
nith_wct Apr 30, 2026 +16
Really? You actually articulated why it's taken so long perfectly. There's loads of evidence. It would be concerning if they took 7 months and then came forward with no new evidence, but they've already disclosed loads of new evidence, and it's clear there was a whole lot to go through. This is what you have to do when you know the person you're charging is going to have a really expensive legal defense and a very public trial.
16
Amy_Wineface Apr 30, 2026 +34
It took them months to collect evidence
34
eekamuse Apr 30, 2026 +10
They're really good at arresting him after he murders her, but she was 14 when he started abusing her. Her parents reported it to the police. This was preventable. That poor little girl.

OK. Now, where should I put the car? In my garage? No. I know, I'll park it on the street! I'm totally in the clear."

Jesus. I just looked up his Romantic Homicide song… I don’t listen to this type of music at all and never heard his name before this story broke, but even I recognized this song. Folks really had this trending on Tik Tok or Instagram or whatever. In the music video he stabs her multiple times and it’s insinuated that he chops her up, all while singing “In the back of my mind, I killed you And I didn't even regret it I can't believe I said it But it's true I hate you” Psychopath

I have to believe and hope that anybody who buys a body bag from any actual store or website is immediately flagged for investigation if the shipping address isn’t a known facility that houses dead bodies

Body bags can be used for other things. I'm an artist and buy them to put my tent poles in for transporting my setup at art festivals. They are the perfect size and c****, I get them off Amazon. I can imagine them being useful for storing lots of things, I think one of the reviews said they used them for storing their fake Christmas tree.
