I love when a reddit comment explains the joke in a simpler way as if they came up with the joke themselves as a result of them not understanding the joke. Such a unique phenomenon.

It makes a lot of sense? A bunch of celebs at the same hotel…
52
TaxTheRichEndTheWar Mar 26, 2026 +148
Here comes a non-apology apology from the accuser, who will continue to play a victim, even though caused all of this herself… in three, two, one… She should have just talked to her about the bodyguard. This whole fiasco is ridiculous. He never even worked for Chappell Roan! I’m not a fan of her music, but she didn’t deserve any of this
148
TheSodernaut Mar 26, 2026 +72
I think putting anyone on blast before even attempting to talk to the person is so childish. I'm all for calling out bullshit but you have do do the diligence to make sure it's valid and bring receipts.
72
Spiritual_Cold5715 Mar 26, 2026 +4
And now it's too late...so much hate. Her reputation has suffered for this.
4

The Brazilian government apparently.

tackle_bones Mar 26, 2026 +222
Justin Bieber goes to Brazil with an entourage of dipshits, does a bunch of drugs, goes a bordello, and suposedly throws his piss and spits off a hotel balcony onto fans all in front of the paparazzi… no big deal. A hotel security guard tells a fan not to bother another guest and the fan is the daughter of a marginally important politician… end of the world… ban her from performing. Make it make sense.
222
GregorSamsaa Mar 26, 2026 +118
You don’t even have it right lol The fan is the step daughter of a soccer player and he’s the one that went public with it despite not even being there to witness any of it. The politician was just like, “no one disrespects one of my favorite soccer players…”
118
jim_deneke Mar 26, 2026 +125
You forgot that a footballer was the one that complained, he wasn't even there to witness the incident and the Brazilian politician dude took offense because he likes the footballer and made a personal 'insult' an official one
125
cashflow_ Mar 26, 2026 +24
As someone who has been living in South America for the last 3 years you learn very quickly that nothing here makes sense
24
nrsys Mar 26, 2026 +6
It's not what they did, it's who they did it to. The girl in question was related to a very well loved football player who spoke out about the incident. Imagine some famous pop star insulted David Attenboroughs grandchildren, the UK media would tear them apart.

EllieDai Mar 26, 2026 +371
It's 100% this. She's either an outspoken lesbian who won't let people f*** with her personal space (right leaning people hate this) or she's the singular cause of Kamala losing in 2024 because she said she was voting for Kamala but unhappy about it (liberals hate this).
371
brvtus Mar 26, 2026 +23
Yeah I was blissfully unaware of the cultural vendetta against her until recently. Discovered her earlier on in her career right after Pink Pony Club released and was into her for a while, but had mostly moved on by the time she really blew up in the mainstream with HTG. It seems to me that she loves being a performer but really only wanted to be gay famous, like Trixie Mattel or Dorian Electra famous, and instead she's Miley Cyrus famous with this massive magnifying glass on everything she's ever done or said. It is very weird tuning back into the discourse to find that everyone and their mother (especially their mothers, in fact) seems to have an opinion on what, in my mind, is still a niche queer pop artist.
23
ikeif Mar 26, 2026 +155
I had to block people elsewhere because I came across a "she isn't speaking out against Israel!" (or some other Hot Political Topic that for some reason, some people demand celebrities have a stance on so they can decide if they like or hate them more). …so I did a quick search, and found out she HAD spoken out on (whatever the topic was, I'm pretty sure it was Israel). Holy shit, you'd think I called the woman ugly and claimed to be Roan's BFF, because they came at me for posting a f****** article that answered their question. Some people really, really, want reasons to hate her.
155
CelestialFury Mar 26, 2026 +25
> …so I did a quick search, and found out she HAD spoken out on (whatever the topic was, I'm pretty sure it was Israel). Holy shit, you'd think I called the woman ugly and claimed to be Roan's BFF, because they came at me for posting a f****** article that answered their question. People HATE when you prove them wrong. I've had a person block me for simply providing a primary source that directly contradicted their claim. We've really built up a cult of ignorance in this country.

I posted on that thread that people are jumping to conclusions and there is no evidence yet to back up these claims. I was downvoted and people replied "There's no evidence that shows it didn't happen" It was of course all a devious lie. And people fell for it because their lives are miserable and they want cancel culture back.

Reminds me of a couple years ago when a video went viral of a police officer throwing a small baggie into the back of someone’s car and the title claimed he was planting drugs on them. It was all over the front page of Reddit and crossposted to countless subreddits with comments filled with people calling all cops bastards and wanting him fired and prosecuted. The next day the department released the full body cam footage which showed him pulling the car over for speeding, the driver consented to a search of the vehicle, while patting down one of the passengers he found the empty baggie and he threw it into the back seat so it wouldn’t blow away in the wind, and after finding nothing he let them go with just a warning. So not only was he not planting drugs they weren’t charged with anything at all, not even a ticket for the speeding. Of course this incredibly vital update got basically zero traction on Reddit or anywhere else despite proving that the original video was totally dishonest. Only a fraction of the people who saw the first video ever knew about the update and I’m sure there are people to this day who still think he was planting drugs on them.

WallyWendels Mar 26, 2026 +31
It's pretty obvious that the soccer dude's PR team is pushing this. If you look at the first thread you can see tons of top level comments casually mentioning who the kid is and the soccer guy, but the article's headline doesnt mention it at all, and top level Reddit comments never actually read an article.
31
BElf1990 Mar 26, 2026 +12
I doubt it. He doesn't get anything out of it. He doesn't need publicity, he's an athlete that's finishing up his career in his home country, publicity doesn't get him paid more, doesn't get him better results. You think he's gonna go and fund an online PR smear campaign because they made his kid cry? That's some next level of pettiness. I should also say, he's more famous than Chappel Roan so it's not like he's trying to get fame by using her name.
12
The_Bitter_Bear Mar 26, 2026 +19
I knew it wasn't even worth my effort to argue in there/any of those threads, and I LOVE telling those folks they are stupid. It was rife with confidently incorrect Redditors who were suddenly experts at how security works despite them never having worked a job even adjacent to it. Or the ones who spend all their time hating on any famous woman they can. Oh and mix in the ones who are losing sleep and frothing at the mouth that she doesn't represent cisgender "Christian" values.  I read the article (which of course none of them did) and it honestly sounded like the security could have been heavy handed on their own accord but also the dad, being and entitled football/soccer star, took deep offense to not being treated special or being reconized this woman from the US. I can think of many situations where they would all jump on that hate train.  Am I saying that's what actually happened? No. Is it just as likely? Of f****** course.  This site has a real issue with hating on famous female music artists at times. She isn't perfect but I'm going to take any criticism from this site with the most miniscule grain of salt.

It worked. This place is now comfortably in the hands of f****** awful people who stifle discussion about things they don’t want us talking about and ban people for wrongthink. While allowing the most reprefuckinghensible hate speech as long as it follows the model perfected by the guy with an extra hole in his neck - “Why are purple people stupider and more degenerate than whites? I’m just asking questions, bro.” Admins can get fucked.

Read about what the mayor Rio did in response and you'll see why this matters. A footballer ran his mouth and there were real consequences for that. Her story being confirmed does matter Also, it's interesting that this is the update that a comment like this so up voted. When people were able to use the story to attack a woman didn't have the same energy.
121
EllieDai Mar 26, 2026 +23
The mayor of Rio de Janeiro banned her from performing somewhere she wasn't going to perform. Meanwhile, this supposed incident happened in Sao Paulo.
23
yeahdefinitelynot Mar 26, 2026 +41
The mayor banned her for something that ultimately she had no hand in, and wasn't even aware of had happened until it blew up on social media. I would be pissed if I was Chappell.
41
donkeyrocket Mar 26, 2026 +9
A lot of people are very excited to dunk on Roan. Literally the only reason this is notable at all is a chunk of the internet just f****** hates her and “glad” there’s a reason. She’s done crappy stuff and obviously doesn’t do well with the celebrity status but this is the biggest nothing of a story.

11
fanamana Mar 26, 2026 +5
Well thousands of redditors were bagging on her & her poor ungrateful character when the 1st misleading article was posted here. Seems kind shitty to dismiss or silence the clarifying articles that exonerate her from the bullshit that precipitated attacks on her character.
5
Cavalish Mar 26, 2026 +7
Ever since Chappell publicly left her agency due to Epstein connections, the media has been VERY insistent that every negative article possible gets pushed forward. It’s incredibly transparent.

44

People do, strongly. Made a comment in another post about this where I pointed out neither side had perfect evidence of who was responsible and I got some dude coming at me about how Roan has to be responsible because her doing it is the only thing that makes sense.
5
GomuGomuNoThought Mar 26, 2026 +5
Because Chapel Roan left her manager due to Epstein ties, so they've started a targeted and coordinated smear campaign to "reduce her value." The media is all controlled by the same Epstein class people. It's literally a petty vendetta.
5
chipmunksocute Mar 26, 2026 +24
Even IF she was the biggest star in the world this is the dumbest drama.  A security guard basically was a little mean to an 11 year old girl.  This is rediculous.

Yes, a lot of people care very much about it. Which is why is getting so much attention
30
The_Bitter_Bear Mar 26, 2026 +16
Most the people hating on her are just terminally online. She didn't pass all their purity tests and she's made mistakes being a young person dealing with fame and social media.  Maybe she sucks as a person, maybe she doesn't. My life isn't impacted at all by that.  I will say though. She makes absolute bangers and there are a lot of young (and not young) queer and gay women, and I'm sure many other people, who feel very seen and understood by a lot of her songs.  That probably makes some folks very mad and I think those folks deserve to stay mad until they learn to be better.

In his post he says, "I was at the hotel on behalf of another individual" who could be literally anyone. Some people noted that you can find photos of him near Sabrina Carpenter from throughout the event, but he's not going to involve someone in this unless he literally has to. Hell, he wouldn't have involved himself if he wasn't mildly worried about getting dragged into a defamation lawsuit (it's one of the first things he mentions in his post).
183
Billy1121 Mar 26, 2026 +121
So he was just freelance muscling for no reason ? This is getting weirder and weirder but i care so little
121
nguyenjitsu Mar 26, 2026 +147
Chappell Roan was literally touring with like a hundred different artists for this Lollapalooza South America run. It's not hard to believe that there's probably dozens of different artists at this hotel with a mishmash of security teams for that exact reason
147
UnintentionalIdiot Mar 26, 2026 +16
For the love of the game
16
Billy1121 Mar 26, 2026 +8
Lol i remember in a hotel lobby i saw some jamaican guy yell at a kid for playing with a paper airplane Same energy
8
EllieDai Mar 26, 2026 +55
Wdym for no reason? The reason was Lollapalooza Brazil. That's why they were all there. Sabrina Carpenter performed in front of 100k people, Chappell in front of 85k people. He was freelance muscling for money, the same reason most people freelance muscle. The event isn't confined to the performance, because (crazy) people were obviously going to know to check the highly rated hotels for the famous popstars who were scheduled to perform at the event.
55
frankbunny Mar 26, 2026 +12
> Wdym for no reason? He was working for someone else, why would he care if a little girl walked by Chappell Roan? It's odd he took an opportunity to act like a c*** on behalf of someone that wasn't even paying him.

4
SirLuciousL Mar 26, 2026 +19
Why would he be yelling at kids to stay away from Chappell if he’s someone else’s bodyguard? The story doesn’t make any sense. This is a classic Fall guy move. Bro probably got paid handsomely to say this.
19
LucasSatie Mar 26, 2026 +17
> Why would he be yelling at kids to stay away from Chappell if he’s someone else’s bodyguard? Wasn't it confirmed by the mother that the security guard never actually mentioned Chappell? The mother just assumed that was the reason the security guard came over.

Why would he drag the name of his client into an unrelated incident?
3
PresidentSuperDog Mar 26, 2026 +56
No one. He was just there randomly yelling at kids for looking at celebrities. This story makes no sense.

EllieDai Mar 26, 2026 +35
You choosing not to understand the story is not the same as the story not making sense. He was working for another artist (he appeared in the background of several fan-photos with Sabrina Carpenter throughout Lollapalooza Brazil). He was present at the hotel because that's where his *actual* client was staying given it's a highly rated, expensive hotel; The kind of place the wife and step-child of a famous footballer might stay. He lays out his reasoning for approaching the mom in the post and implies he didn't speak to the child whatsoever. It's not hard to understand.
35
Expert_Habit2728 Mar 26, 2026 +19
I mean the obvious question then is, was Sabrina Carpenter staying in said hotel, and was she at breakfast at the same time? Or is her security running around rampant confronting parents for their children walking around? It’s very hard to understand This whole notion that people hire contractors and then just get to go “oh well he doesn’t actually work for me, he’s just a contractor” is bullshit.
19
muppetbaby_ Mar 26, 2026 +5
Considering she and Chappell are close friends, yeah it’s quite possible they were having breakfast together at the same hotel where all the famous people stay.
5
LeGama Mar 26, 2026 +12
He really didn't lay out any reasons... He said, and I quote "My sole interaction with the mother was calm and with good intentions". He doesn't explain at all why he's interacting with her.
12
Penguin-clubber Mar 26, 2026 +5
He states that the interaction was prompted by observations from the hotel and just an overall heightened concern for security. The “observations” makes it sound specific to issues with the child
5
thot_bryan Mar 26, 2026 +23
No what’s actually hard to understand is why he would yell at a child/mother who did nothing but look in the direction of a celebrity who he doesn’t work. It’s not hard to understand why this doesn’t make any sense.
23
Infamous_Aardvark146 Mar 26, 2026 +22
It makes perfect sense when you consider how lucrative lying is for one person in this story

Yes and I guess the story has kinda (?) died down which means that most folks will not even learn that she had zero to do with the situation.

noah3302 Mar 26, 2026 +44
The astroturfing for the hate on roan is outrageous. If not, she makes music for girls, why do all the neckbeards on this app have the knives ready to go anytime she comes up? It’s f****** crazy

Hmm, seems too important. Do we have another season of The Bachelorette we can get blankmindedly furious about? Or is there a country music act that didn’t performatively fellate the flag? Come on! I’ll even take a Party of Five cast member needlessly berating a barista at this point. Anything to distract me from real world events!
2
Mnudge Mar 26, 2026 +47
This is the biggest not news story of the week Security out in the world does all kinds of shit. Telling a family to not talk to their celebrity is not a big deal It’s not like he suplexed the child in the middle of the restaurant
47

Yeah didn't Drake or Jay Z"s security literally stop traffic in NYC and threaten folks while waiting to pick up their client, lol
20
havingsomedifficulty Mar 26, 2026 +5
But did you hear that the child was crying??
5
EricFredNorris Mar 26, 2026 +18
The actual news story should be that a famous soccer player and his wife started a massive online harassment and hate campaign against a gay woman with absolutely zero evidence and it turns out they were completely wrong. She was just eating breakfast at the hotel and then next thing she knows she’s getting bombarded with pure vitriolic hate, death threats, and politicians banning her from performing. 95% of the people who saw this story aren’t going to hear that it had literally nothing to do with her and now she just has to live with this false perception that she had a bodyguard verbally assault a child. That’s pretty crazy.

This isn’t even THAT out of the ordinary for “regular” finer quality hotels outside of event season. Like how are we shocked that “security” told an unattended child to not be somewhere. It’s basic wedding reception behavior lol

So is the soccer guy gonna make an apology to Chappell for making a mountain out of a mole hill?
62
adoreroda Mar 26, 2026 +54
His wife was seen liking comments saying Chappel did this intentionally and that she's a horrible person. They both need to apologise but I know they won't Already knew they were just doing this for attention because they immediately went to social media rather than what good parents would do which is contact police and/or the hotel about it. They'd complain about towels not being warm enough but twiddle their thumbs about a thug who harassed and intimidated their daughter.
54
seravivi Mar 26, 2026 +9
Yeah in all the judgement against Roan people are leaving out all the weird shit the mom has been doing.
9

Men don’t make mistakes. Chappell is guilty because.
11
kolejack2293 Mar 26, 2026 +17
I don't particularly care for her but I do think her entire shtick these last few years has exposed a lot of 'pop culture' types (you know, popheads/popculturechat/fauxmoi... and here kinda too) as being disingenuous about how they talk about celebrity culture. These people always talk about how paparazzi and fake rumors and aggressive fans are horrible and that the culture should change. An artist comes who actually sets boundaries and speaks out against these things, and she is hounded to hell and back by them. Even after the *bodyguard himself* said he wasn't working for her, people are still accusing her of lying. They pretend to hate the culture, but they love it. They act as if Britney was horribly abused by tabloids and the general public in the 2000s, but they would have been the first to harass her back then.
17
Necessary_Fill3048 Mar 26, 2026 +5
Weirdly, there was a lot of skepticism about this incident on Fauxmoi when I checked a few days ago and people generally saying the hate against her was overblown. The popculturechat sub however has been absolutely embarrassing in their self-righteous hate train. Second time I think that sub has fallen hook, line and sinker for an obvious smear campaign.
5
Fxreverboy Mar 26, 2026 +6
It's like you read my mind! I've been noticing this and thinking "am I the only one seeing this?" I always thought FM was snarky and delusional, but they were the only subreddit to be clear eyed about this from the jump when every other one devolved into crazy hateful nonsense. I still don't know how to make sense of it.
6
Necessary_Fill3048 Mar 26, 2026 +4
FM is heavily moderated, so I wonder whether that has protected it from brigading or comments from people only there to push an agenda or create trouble. It's been obvious for a while that there is a coordinated effort being made to damage Chappell Roan's career and reputation, lots of accounts on TikTok dedicated solely to this, and as usual there are lots of extremely misogynistic women only too happy to join in without even being paid (most of the people driving this are women tbh). Many of them frequent that pop culture sub. Same sub worships Britney and writes essays about how she was mistreated, or laments how Sinead O'Connor was made an outcast by the music industry for her views. Now an organised campaign of hate is happening against another female artist and they're gleefully joining in. They'd have hounded Britney and Sinead O'Connor just the same. Honestly think there are some people who won't be happy until this woman kills herself (and then they'll be writing essays about how the world mistreated her and so the cycle continues).

It’s been fun watching people try to justify blindly joining a witch hunt after it’s been shown that it, was in fact, nothing more than a pointless witch hunt meant to drag down a successful queer woman.

They've decided they hate her based on the initial story about something else that was debunked: She was rude to a "fan" and everyone got mad at her then the next day that fan was seen chasing another celebrity around trying to get headshot signed so he could sell them. She pointed at someone recording her in the airport, how dare she? Oh that guy's an Australian paparazzi who is universally hated (Russell Crowe of all people has shit on that guy, too). She went to Grammy Camp which was 3k per week! Oh, she went for 1 week and fundraised to go. She claimed she grew up in a slum but her grandfather had money, she's faking being poor/middle class! Oh, she lived in a trailer park growing up and Olivia Rodriguez spoke publicly about seeing Chappell working at a donut shop before she popped off. "She's mean to her fans" but the people she's mean to (with nearly 100% accuracy) prove themselves to violate people's personal space, hound them, stalk them, touch them without permission, and are just assholes. I remain open to proof she's an actually shitty person that doesn't boil down to an excuse to feel justified for right wingers who hate her for being an outspoken queer women woman or liberals mad at her for saying "I'm voting for Kamala *but* I don't like her". I haven't seen it yet!
72
chipmunksocute Mar 26, 2026 +27
I mean she's been super vocal about fans already violating her space repeatedly and like fans just showing up at her parents house (which, wtf). She exploded last years and there are always crazies and seemed like she copped pretty quick that she doesnt owe crazies and pap anything and keeps shitting on them (justifiably imo). Like she went from pretty much nobody to global star in 18 months which has to be a f****** insane thing to experience and add the crazies on top.  Shes super protective of her space and time to stay sane amd has said over and over on interviews that when she's not "On" or in drag or doing aj official event she wants to be left alone which feels fair so people cant even claim to be surprised if shes snippy when they approach her in public shes been clear she doesnt like it so...dont do it.  So like...yeah her reactions have all seemed very normal.
27
EllieDai Mar 26, 2026 +18
It always drives me a little crazy when people say (not that you are saying this) that she wasn't meant for fame. NO ONE IS. Fame is stupid made-up bullshit. It just means people knowing who you are. You can't be "meant" to be famous. It also bothers me when people say she should just choose not to be famous anymore, like it's a switch she flipped and could turn off if she wanted to; She made Pink Pony Club in 2020 and it took 3 years to blow up, through little action of her own. She can't just 'decide' not to be famous, that's a decision other people made for her and is partially why she's so protective of her personal space. She didn't control much of becoming a celebrity.

hillopurkkii Mar 26, 2026 +5
There have been female celebrities who were literally murdered by their fans so I have never once blamed her (or anyone else this is relevant to) for being huge on boundaries.

Ok so since I’m forced to see this in my feed: Where’s the hate for the idiot professional ball kicker who shot off a social media post that sent their rabid red-pill sportsball fan base on a gay woman? Nah, didn’t think you’d have that same energy for that once all the facts came out. “Aww mate he’s a fookin footy legend!” F*** him.

Well... given he doesn't work for Chappell. The father making the accusation wasn't even there at the Hotel, just connected two unrelated events from the same day, on top of how social media will just run wild with things before thinking about it. Sounds like a classic game of telephone. And a lot of wires were crossed. I'm guessing the guy talked to the Mom about a completely unrelated security issue that happened that week, and she took that the wrong way and added 2+2 together and got 5. Assuming it was Roan getting pissy at her. (And not the actual issue that was discussed.)
