I think the major people in power know they will die of old age before this affects them so they don't care.

And they know their family will be able to afford clean water and the likes.

Unfortunately, the people making the decisions to attack Iran don't have to worry about living long enough to have to deal with the climate aftermath. Maybe the majority of our politicians shouldn't be geriatrics with around 10-20 years of life left (at best).

These guys don’t care about human life, yet alone the environment

!¿ Long term consequences from a Middle Eastern war ?!

note of the OP: The article also goes somewhat into the Iranian attacks on tankers and oil infrastructure in the region for the record.

Donald Trump knows shit about anything and the military should never have followed his orders. F****** traitors, all of them.

SteelOliver Mar 17, 2026 +8
The military are not traitors. It's the civilian failure at every level that leads to the military in this position. -Hiring an unqualified SecDef -Firing Iran subject matter experts -Congress refusing to reign his power in The military is continuing to be non-partisan in our clusterfuck of a country

I’ve been told for years that the 2a people would fight despots and military would refuse their orders but I guess i was being lied to

How can they be non partisan when they’re supposed to be upholding an oath to the constitution?
10
SteelOliver Mar 17, 2026 -9
What military action is not upholding that oath? You don't want the military jumping in whenever there is a case of the constitution being violated. At a certain point you'll cede too much power to your military.

Sonnescheint Mar 17, 2026 +6
F*** them then for being non-partisan during a fascist takeover! F*** the military

thefoodiedentist Mar 17, 2026 -11
This was israel. Us did not sign off on this
-11
Travelerdude Mar 17, 2026 +5
Doesn’t matter. Trump ordered and the military obeyed. F*** them!

thefoodiedentist Mar 17, 2026 -8
U talking about iran war or bombing of the iran oil infrastructure? War was trump. Oil is israel. Cant blame the military. Going to war w iran can be justified, the poor execution and lack of planning is all on trump and not justifiable.

Who funds their wars

spastic-colon Mar 17, 2026 +7
So glad we needed experts to weigh in and tell us setting fire to shitloads of oil is kinda bad. It's not like warmongers don't know that before they do it...

invalidpassword Mar 17, 2026 +3
Trump does not comprehend the meaning of the word "consequences".

Ragnarawr Mar 16, 2026 +3
No matter how much they poison the world, we won’t forget the Epstein files.

Greedy-Zombie3056 Mar 17, 2026 +1
Fr that’s like 50 years of global “chemtrail poison” in minutes

you think.. bombing nordstream also but who tf cared...
-9
Right_Pen_3241 Mar 16, 2026 +21
The critical difference for environmental impact is: At the point of the Nordstream pipeline, it was inactive. Delivery via the pipelines stopped fully in August 2022. The destruction was in September. So.... yes, the impact on the environment was actually small.

Davey914 Mar 16, 2026 -7
For a split second I read that as Nordstrom.
-7
AdministrativeWin583 Mar 16, 2026 -8
Iran bombing oil tankers in the strait and oil infrastructure of its neighbors will have major environmental fallout.
-8
wrong-bodied-tengu Mar 17, 2026 +6

Where was the guardian as this happens across Ukraine and Russia as a result of Putin's war?

andyclap Mar 20, 2026 +1
I don't understand your comment? a quick web search shows loads of articles in the guardian about the environmental impact of the Ukraine conflict.
