Brian Cox lets rip on Trump, Farage and sex at 79
Playing Logan Roy, Brian Cox became a global star. Like the ruthless patriarch, he speaks his mind, about Donald Trump, Nigel Farage and Ian McKellen

Brian Cox turned his filter off some time ago huh?

He doesn’t know how many years on this Earth he’s got left. He’s gonna get real weird with it.

Isn't that what literally every old person does ? "I dunno how long I've got left, so might as well do/say what I want no matter how many people get screwed over/pissed at me cuz of it."

And his wig
47
Correct_Inspection25 Apr 3, 2026 +35
Okay, I hate to ask, he wears a piece? Maybe too overwhelmed with all the science stuff to notice.
35

same. but I swear if I find out he's wearing a wig I'm kicking him and all of his science to the curb /s

At least he needs to own it like Joey Pants across Goonies, Amazon Women on the Moon, and The Sopranos, (open if his character in The Matrix being bald was a shout out too....) I thought the same. What does a particle physicist have to do with acting?

If I was Chief of Police and had dudes like Farva and Thorn pulling shenanigans I’d lose my filter some time ago as well.

The next person who says shenanigans is going to get pistol whipped!

He's Scottish.
27

Generally, that happens as you get past a certain age.
7
PlanetLandon Apr 3, 2026 +35
He’s small-town Scottish. I doubt he ever had a filter turned on.
35
rivalrobot Apr 3, 2026 +22
As a fellow Dundonian, I resent the notion that Brian Cox is from a small town. Dundee is a small city, thank you very much!
22
ConfederacyOfDunces_ Apr 3, 2026 +55
I love him as an actor, but he needs to shut up sometimes
55

Nah, nah, I love a good geriatric yapfest from time to time.

19
Thybro Apr 3, 2026 +38
I mean some of this stuff needed to be said and some of these method guys needed to be dropped down an notch, I’ll take some crazy if it comes with a side rightful mocking from someone whose words will sting.
38
ConfederacyOfDunces_ Apr 3, 2026 +8
Hahaha touché
8
noobnoobthedestroyer Apr 3, 2026 +66
Lol I love when he criticizes whoever and is literally the voice of McDonald’s
66
ConfederacyOfDunces_ Apr 3, 2026 +28
His voice is incredible lol I will say, I’m super excited he was chosen to play the new Villain in the next season of Dexter
28
yelofoley Apr 3, 2026 +3
Dexter? Excellent. He was the first Hannibal after all.
3
TheNonCredibleHulk Apr 3, 2026 +3
> His voice is incredible lol There's a youtube series of him just pronouncing various brands of Scotch. I could listen to that for days.
3
Aggressive_Chuck Apr 3, 2026 +31
Nah I want celebrities to have opinions and be controversial and interesting, not PR-trained robots.
31
cmere-2-me Apr 3, 2026 +20
This. Right. Here. You know when Brian is interviewed he could say anything. I hate the polished answers actors give these days to promote whatever innane bland film they're there to promote.
20
MRintheKEYS Apr 3, 2026 +13
Nah, you always need old men like this. It’s good to call shit out from time and time. The guys with very little time left or things to lose often give you the most honest opinions. Right or wrong.
13
rodot2005 Apr 3, 2026 +41
Why ? Who cares what he thinks about Depp
41
ConfederacyOfDunces_ Apr 3, 2026 +34
It’s not just Depp. He has a track record of talking shit on a lot of actors. I just find it weird.
34
animalivebecome Apr 3, 2026 +30
I don’t mind it actually. I think people should speak up more and dissolve the “professionalism” and decorum of Hollywood. More would get made. Less assholes would absorb all of the power out of fear. Eventually it would stabilize into a healthy middle ground of professionalism and honesty.
30
BadInternational9830 Apr 3, 2026 +8
And he supports Kevin Spacey
8
casino_r0yale Apr 3, 2026 +31
In this very article he criticizes him
31
BadInternational9830 Apr 3, 2026 +13
Elsewhere he apparently thinks that Spacey’s acting should atone for his behavior: “Kevin is an old friend of mine,” Cox said. “All right, Kevin did certain things… He also did a lot of extraordinary work. And I find that really petty, and I just don’t like it. It’s sneaky and petty and not right.”
13
Heavy_Signature_5619 Apr 3, 2026 +7
He didn't say his acting should atone for his behaviour though.
7
GasPsychological5997 Apr 3, 2026 +46
He is totally right about Depp who has proven to be a washed up abusive addict.
46
ConfederacyOfDunces_ Apr 3, 2026 +7
That may be true, it’s not like I know Depp personally, but it seems that Brian is constantly talking shit on his colleagues. I mean, if you don’t want take a role and that’s the way you feel about it, that’s fine, but you don’t need to broadcast it for everybody.
7
Coolbluegatoradeyumm Apr 3, 2026 +487
You ask this dude a question he will answer it.
487
AweHellYo Apr 4, 2026 +34
hey brian what was super troopers like excellent because that f*** johnny depp wasn’t in it!
34
Maliluma Apr 3, 2026 +826
Johnny Depp made Pirates of the Caribbean what it was though. He was to Pirates of the Caribbean what Robert Downey Jr. was to Ironman. In both cases the actors were well known, but their portrayals of the characters really elevated both the movies and the actors to another level.
826
chadowan Apr 3, 2026 +209
That's a good comparison. Even if you're not a huge fan of those actors, you have to respect how much they owned those roles.
209
Onyx1509 Apr 5, 2026 +2
I guess a difference is Downey is the main character in Iron Man. Depp isn't even the lead in the first PotC films, but he still absolutely makes the movie what it is.
2
nerdshowandtell Apr 3, 2026 +101
Yup, some people forget how great Depp was in the first pirates movie.. It launched that franchise.. and he was nominated for an Oscar for it... "But why is the rum gone!?"
101
RedditsFullofShit Apr 3, 2026 +61
To this day one of the only movies I’ve been at where the crowd stood up and clapped at the end of the movie. (The first one to be exact). He was fantastic.
61
cheesebabychair Apr 5, 2026 +5
Watched it in theaters, the crowd was enthralled, it was amazing. Still remember being so blown away when they walked under water
5
BIGDongLover69420 Apr 3, 2026 +34
He was good in all three movies tbh
34
9793287233 Apr 3, 2026 +39
His performance maybe but his character's writing took a real dip after the first film
39
BIGDongLover69420 Apr 3, 2026 +20
I mean the first was the best but the other two wherent that big of a dip.
20
real_picklejuice Apr 3, 2026 +16
I'd argue Dead Man's Chest is the best of all 3
16
battlecat136 Apr 3, 2026 +20
If that's the one where Stellan Skarsgard is introduced as Bootstrap Bill then hell yes I agree with you.
20
real_picklejuice Apr 3, 2026 +21
It's also the one that cemented the cultural idea that Davy Jones captains the Flying Dutchman. Those were initially two completely separate myths/tales.
21
battlecat136 Apr 3, 2026 +15
Bill Nighy is AMAZING as Davy Jones, too! And thank you for that bit of info, I didn't know that.
15
ITNW1993 Apr 4, 2026 +21
The CGI for Davy Jones has also held up so remarkably well even after all these years. It’s almost astounding to think that the CGI for him is 20 years old at this point.
21
hotcoffeethanks Apr 4, 2026 +3
That three-way fight on the island towards the end nearly made me die of laughter in the cinema when it came out and it still lives in my head rent-free. Also that bit towards the beginning where Jack Sparrow becomes part of a fruit skewer. I remember crying laughing in the middle of a packed theater like it had never happened before.
3
_TorpedoVegas_ Apr 3, 2026 +5
I agree with you, BIGDongLover69420
5
SeeerSucker Apr 5, 2026 +2
The whole movie walks the line of seriousness and comedy. I love it.
2
2ManyCooksInTheKitch Apr 3, 2026 +67
And both had a history of being terrible on set. I don't blame Cox one bit for not wanting to take the gamble. Some people are more intentional with their time. It worked out for Depp and Downey, of course, but I'm sure there were others with the same concerns.
67
Carrman099 Apr 3, 2026 +35
The studio itself was freaking out about the casting and way that Depp was playing the character. They really did not expect people to like him as much as they did.
35
IntoTheMusic Apr 4, 2026 +4
Yeah, they wanted to fire him but couldn't because the movie was financed around him being the lead lol
4
wade_wilson44 Apr 3, 2026 +11
And depp was obviously famous before that, but not nearly the level that movie brought him to. S to say he was overblown before that is really something
11
seanmonaghan1968 Apr 3, 2026 +6
As much as a like Brian Cox as an actor i think Johnny Depp would have out shon him in this movie and maybe that's that
6
WillSym Apr 5, 2026 +2
I'm glad he did turn it down as we got Jonathan Pryce as Governor Swann instead and his performance is one of my favourite in the franchise!
2
milesamsterdam Apr 4, 2026 +4
Johnny Depp is to Jack Sparrow as Anthony Hopkins is to Hannibal Lecter.
4
that_guy2010 Apr 4, 2026 +14
Does the governor interact with Jack much? It’s been a while since I’ve watched the movies, but I feel like they don’t interact much..
14
You_Wenti Apr 4, 2026 +10
Not much on screen, but I imagine their actors regularly saw each other on set. Jonathan Pryce was perfect for the role anyway
10
ToWriteAMystery Apr 5, 2026 +3
I also loved that it meant I couple imagine what Pope Francis might look like in a wig. [context.](https://share.google/T1JE6tIzAjYLCyhdV)

Jbell_1812 Apr 3, 2026 +73
I've been getting ads from Uber where it just him being obnoxious as f*** about a d*******. Just makes me want to use Uber less
73
Daewrythe Apr 3, 2026 +34
Yeah lol, I'm surprised he was in Super Troopers if this is how he feels
34
Sea2Chi Apr 3, 2026 +72
I read he did it because he thought it would be fun. He's a very serious actor so that was basically his version "You know what would be crazy? If I did a goofy stoner comedy."
72
Coolbluegatoradeyumm Apr 3, 2026 +52
And honestly, it’s kind of a classic so who says he was wrong?
52
ErstwhileAdranos Apr 3, 2026 +14
Why? The Broken Lizard crew was certainly not overblown or overrated.
14
KneeReaper420 Apr 3, 2026 +18
do not disrespect Broken Lizard
18
GasPsychological5997 Apr 3, 2026 +18
Why? He said he has lots of fun doing that movie, and Depp is a known abusive addict.
18
SpicyWongTong Apr 3, 2026 +7
Was it known in 2003? I kinda remember something about a trashed hotel room but he still had Finding Neverland in him at that point.
7
TVCasualtydotorg Apr 3, 2026 +10
He'd had some violent incidents by that point that were well known such as chasing paparazzi with chunk of wood. L
10
BromaEmpire Apr 3, 2026 +5
I don't think it's fair to count anything involving the paparazzi.
5
rainshowers_5_peace Apr 3, 2026 +4
They were harassing his pregnant girlfriend.
4
Gloomy-Welcome-6806 Apr 3, 2026 +9
I see nothing wrong with this
9
InevitableBad589 Apr 3, 2026 +5
Seriously. F*** the paparazzi.
5
Amish_Rabbi Apr 3, 2026 +7
Paparazzi are fair game
7
cmere-2-me Apr 3, 2026 +2
He comes on the last leg lots because he just likes the vibe of the show. He doesn't take himself too seriously and dislikes those that do. I can't say I fault him for that.
2
sally_says Apr 3, 2026 +283
There are so many boring twats in this thread. If an actor wants to shit on another actor, I am here for it. I'm sick of the usual fake, sychophantic trash we're usually fed in celebrity interviews. Nobody gets cancelled anymore and there is so much noise already as it is, that it literally doesn't matter what is being said. So if a celebrity wants to say something that isn't kissing someone's ass, I support it.
283
Just-Boysenberry3861 Apr 3, 2026 +67
They'd be bitching just as much if he gave a sanitized canned PR reviewed response. Let an old man talk shit if he wants to
67
aster_xp Apr 3, 2026 +103
and he's talking about johnny depp? i think there's reasons why someone might not enjoy having to work on set with johnny depp lol
103
lykathea2 Apr 3, 2026 +33
Yeah, it's not like this is out of line like the Tarantino/Dano controversy, but one actor finding another overrated is compelling to me. Like when Ray Liotta called Clint Eastwood overrated on that one talk show, got booed, and didn't give a f***.
33
Ok_Writing_7033 Apr 3, 2026 +22
I mean Clint Eastwood has been in some absolutely excellent movies, but he has exactly one facial expression lol
22
Substantial_Wave4934 Apr 3, 2026 +5
He plays a certain type of character well, but no real range outside that. However he is also an excellent director so I think he’s a big talent. I do have more reverence though for someone like Gary Oldman who can transform like a chameleon, that’s a lot more rare
5
No_Tone1704 Apr 3, 2026 +2
It’s not compelling at all to me - yet I’m here. But Cox can say what he wants as long as he’s aware people may not agree with him and in some cases think less of him.
2
knootemke Apr 3, 2026 +33
If literally anyone wants to talk shit about Johnny Depp I am here it lol
33
Mysterious-Wasabi103 Apr 3, 2026 +2
He's right too. Johnny used to be pretty good, but anymore he is overrated.
2
IceFireHawk Apr 3, 2026 +8
It’s hard to distinguish Logan Roy and Brian Cox from one another
8
rivalrobot Apr 3, 2026 +3
I wouldn't say that. Cox is a democratic socialist and Logan Roy is very much not that.
3
CrissBliss Apr 3, 2026 +96
Hasn’t it been reported that JD reads off cue cards while acting now? I can see why that would irritate other actors.
96
panamaspace Apr 3, 2026 +88
That's rich of you to think he reads anymore. They fed him the lines he no longer bothers to memorize through an earpiece.
88
Aye_Surely Apr 3, 2026 +39
Brando did that and people cream over him
39
semaj009 Apr 3, 2026 +16
He also sexually assaulted a woman with butter, having conspired with the director to allow the assault to exploit her vulnerability, so idk if he's a good example of what to do on set
16
M086 Apr 3, 2026 +4
It worked for Brando though.
4
soularbabies Apr 3, 2026 +9
He had an earbud with someone reading him lines
9
wednesdayware Apr 3, 2026 +10
Brando did that as well.
10
NuxFuriosa Apr 4, 2026 +16
Based Brian Cox.
16
sabermagnus Apr 3, 2026 +117
I agree with the grumpy old guy, Johnny Depp is overrated af.
117
IceLord86 Apr 3, 2026 +37
For awhile there I'd disagree (basically the 90s) but ever since Pirates he's completely given up and with his addiction problems, doesn't seem to try nearly as much as he did when younger.
37
Huckleberry_Sin Apr 4, 2026 +4
Yeah he had a fantastic body of work but there was a certain point you could tell he just lost interest in being a serious actor. He used to be a guy you’d watch his movies just bc he was known for picking interesting roles. He def lost that artistic side.
4
2greenlimes Apr 3, 2026 +11
Would I say he’s overrated as an actor? No. At least in his early career. But does he sound like a dumpster fire of a person and a terrible coworker? Yes. I don’t think I’d want to work on a movie with him.
11
Educational_Put_2305 Apr 3, 2026 +53
Bold take. Fantastic body of work in my opinion. Blow, Donnie Brasco, Pirates, Gilbert Grape, Sleepy Hollow, From Hell, Fear and Loathing, Finding Neverland, Edward Scissorhands, Sweeney Todd. And I’m leaving plenty of decent shit out.
53
TMC2502 Apr 3, 2026 +23

Darkendsoul Apr 3, 2026 +15
Ed Wood is a favorite film of mine and Depps performance in it is flawless
15
bvsshevd Apr 3, 2026 +10
Yeah call Johnny depp a shithead all you want as a human but he’s a great actor
10
2JarSlave Apr 3, 2026 +9
Remember when Brian Cox signed on to be in the Amazon produced James Bond project inly to learn later that he would be hosting a reality game show?
9
McMuffinClause Apr 3, 2026 +41
Lots of people in here who fell for the Johnny Depp propaganda, huh? Love this energy from Cox, because you know what? Depp is a overblown, overrated actor.
41
legomaximumfigure Apr 3, 2026 +7
I liked Jonathan Pryce as the Governor anyway. But didn't the Governor and Jack Sparrow only have two scenes together in the whole franchise? Seems pretty petty to pass on a paying gig to Hawaii.
7
Glassesnerdnumber193 Apr 3, 2026 +38
That’s fair. Depp does suck as a human being
38
vonblankenstein Apr 3, 2026 +22
So this is what Brian Cox does when he isn’t yelling at clouds.
22
_gneat Apr 3, 2026 +8
Sounds like Brian Cox played himself in Succession.
8
Dazzling-Economics55 Apr 4, 2026 +2
Is that show worth watching? Been debating starting it for a while
2
RandyTheFool Apr 3, 2026 +9
Hard to claim you have standards when you’ve been the voice of McDonalds ads for over 6 years now.
9
SpacemanJB88 Apr 3, 2026 +5
Probably for the best, I feel Brian Cox would have been miscast for role of the governor.
5
karmint1 Apr 4, 2026 +2
Yeah, the governor worked as milquetoast; Cox would've been a domineering presence.
2
SomewhereNo8378 Apr 3, 2026 +25
Turn down the bag on three blockbuster hits so you can avoid ten scenes with the guy.
25
wednesdayware Apr 3, 2026 +17
The role of the governor wasn’t going to pay amazingly…
17
Marskid101 Apr 3, 2026 +3
Yet he does McDonald’s commercials…..
3
jonviggo89 Apr 4, 2026 +3
Jonathan Pryce was Perfect for the governor role
3
NonCorporealEntity Apr 4, 2026 +3
Am I the only one picturing the astrophysicist Brian Cox here?
3
mostlygroovy Apr 3, 2026 +27
He may not have a filter, but he’s also right
27
Aggressive_Screen681 Apr 3, 2026 +6
Johnny Depp was definitely not „over blow“ at that point in his career
6
ldnk Apr 3, 2026 +14
Brian Cox and James Caan. Both colossal assholes. Both incredibly talented. Both appear in bizarre for who they are movies (Elf for Caan and Super Troopers for Cox)
14
MasterOfManyWorlds Apr 3, 2026 +15
Tommy Lee Jones feels like he fits in with this group
15
Zellakate Apr 3, 2026 +13
Agreed but he cannot sanction their buffoonery.
13
JazzmatazZ4 Apr 3, 2026 +27
I love Brian Cox but my god he's annoying
27
knootemke Apr 3, 2026 +20
eh, I'm fine with anyone trashing Depp's weird ass haha
20

But be the voice for McDonalds?
6

A check is a check
3
wearetherevollution Apr 3, 2026 +4
Apparently not considering he turned down another paycheck for a pretty dumb reason.
4
Cal_Takes_Els Apr 3, 2026 +2
Yep, sounds like Brian cox
2
jennymayg13 Apr 3, 2026 +2
Why did they need to make another of these films anyway?
2

I love grandpas with no filters…they make my day
2

Ba Da Ba Ba Ba, He's Hating It.

The caption has some comment about how he missed being an unknown. Ironically I had no idea who he was until I saw the picture.
2

pot meets kettle?
2
Brigadierz- Apr 4, 2026 +2
He thought he was overrated in 2003?
2
Ok_Lingonberry2686 Apr 4, 2026 +2
The governor? I don't even remember the role. How much screen time did he share with Depp? 5 min?
2
PopPepps Apr 4, 2026 +2
The problem with Brian Cox is that he thinks he’s Logan Roy.
2
whereisbeezy Apr 4, 2026 +2
I have always thought working with depp would be obnoxious at best.
2
Jumba2009sa Apr 4, 2026 +2
Definitely based on the overrated comment. When was the last time Johnny played any character without make up?
2
InsufficientApathy Apr 5, 2026 +2
This guy is definitely working through his f*** it list. When you have enough money that you don't need to work, your options for f*** retention expand exponentially.
2
Selafin_Dulamond Apr 5, 2026 +2
He is completely right. The role in the franchise is particularly terrible
2
AncientBee5348 Apr 3, 2026 +5
Good for him. Very spot on about Depp.
5
scots Apr 3, 2026 +5
Hey now, Johnny Depp is really really good at being Johnny Depp in every Johnny Depp role that Johnny Depp is cast in.
5
sedcar Apr 4, 2026 +3
Crazy how much people love Johnny Deep. Happy to hear someone finally knock him down a little. So many fans d-riders. He publicly humiliates a woman and y’all still supported him. Absolutely vile.
3
kingjeremythewicked8 Apr 3, 2026 +3
My problem with Depp as an actor is that seems like, when he’s on screen, he always has to be doing something, when often times it’s much better for an actor to just do nothing.
3
NSMike Apr 3, 2026 +3
>His role as the ruthless Logan Roy made Brian Cox a star. Did it? I knew who Brian Cox was a long time ago, and I've never seen one goddamn episode of *Succession*. And I'm by no means someone who keeps up with celebrities and actors just for the hell of it.

Hell yeah, my boi Brian Cox gets it. Johnny Depp is overrated.

UncleDuude Apr 3, 2026 +3
Brian Cox sounds like an insufferable t***.

Knitsune Apr 3, 2026 +4
He's right, Depp should have been done in like 1999

sickostrich244 Apr 3, 2026 +2
Say what you will about Depp being overrated as an actor, Jack Sparrow is one of the most iconic movie characters of all time and the reason the franchise has been able to make billions of dollars.

NarmHull Apr 3, 2026 +6
I can't say I love Depp the man but he does an amazing job of blending into a role where I don't see him as Johnny Depp in the movie. Perhaps his ego is overblown, but he is undoubtedly a skilled actor.

semaj009 Apr 3, 2026 +2
I see your claim, and raise you those weird Harry Potter films

NarmHull Apr 4, 2026 +2
Ah yeah, I was mostly checked out for those

Everyone’s entitled to their opinion.  Most people seem to love working with Depp.

JazzlikeWishbone4579 Apr 3, 2026 +4
plenty of Depp's coworkers seem to dislike him. he has also been accused of assault or unprofessionalism by some coworkers.

lowdo1 Apr 3, 2026 +3
He isn’t wrong, Depp is super overrated but hell, I wouldn’t give up that payday!

Johnny Depp had a string of arrests and legal issues before 2002.

There is no Pirates franchise without Depp. Like him or not, that character wasn’t getting created by any other actor. It was a perfect casting.

highandinarabbithole Apr 3, 2026 +2
I love it, I f*** with Brian Cox. He’s not wrong at all. He probably could’ve made some of those movies watchable, but I respect the level of hater he is.

Doom1974 Apr 3, 2026 +2
Wow, just became an even bigger fan of Brian Cox, couldn't agree more with him
2
HrBinkness Apr 3, 2026 +2
I’m googling Brian Cox right now.

compleximago Apr 3, 2026 +2
Brian Cox is the hero we need in this, the age of self-aggrandisement.
2
bigmikekbd Apr 4, 2026 +2
I gotta say, I don’t find Brian Cox endearing at all. Every time I hear from him, it’s something like this. Followed by a McDonald’s radio commercial.
2
Miselino Apr 4, 2026 +2
Brian cox pretending he doesn’t have a massive ego? Haha
2
axlgreece5202 Apr 4, 2026 +2
Brian Cox with all of his artistic integrity and McDonald's commercial money? That Brian Cox??
2
SubstanceObjective42 Apr 4, 2026 +2
Brian Cox the McDonald’s commercial guy? I saw him eat soap once.
2
ProffesorSpitfire Apr 4, 2026 +2
I’m guessing he was mildly annoyed by the critical acclaim and immense popularity of the first movie.
2
Richard_Brecky_ Apr 4, 2026 +2
This is why I dont know who Brian Cox is….
2
popculturerss Apr 3, 2026 +2

kingoflint282 Apr 3, 2026 +2
Guess he’s not lovin’ it

MrDiablerie Apr 3, 2026 +1
His book is great if you wanna hear his unfiltered thoughts about other actors. I respect Brian Cox, dude puts in the work and doesn’t BS.

ActionFigureCollects Apr 3, 2026 +3
But he chose to work with Brad Pitt in Troy? WTAF!?
3
ThePLARASociety Apr 3, 2026 +2
He was so great in Manhunter! I also liked him as Stryker in X-2: X-Men United. But I don’t get why he did those Ick’Donald’s commercials? Still a great actor and person!
2
Stone_Midi Apr 4, 2026 +2
Brian Cox is a one trick pony. He does that one trick really well though, to be fair
