Telegraph is a totally unreliable news source, there is no British deployment to the strait of hormuz.

>The mission, which will start when conditions allow
This line is doing a ton of heavy lifting. This is intended for after there's some sort of agreement to reopen the Strait; it's just fleshing out [the announcement from last month](https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c5yjz819vmgo) with more details.
>Speaking after a meeting of 51 countries, the prime minister underlined the work would be "strictly peaceful and defensive" and would only be put in place once fighting in the region ends.
The Torygraph is, of course, trying to make people believe something that isn't true by leaving out key details, as they so love to do.

Sneaky media, I see other British media outlets are reporting it same the way, they are trying to make it look like the British are entering the war, anything to create a headline and a story.

It’s saying the defence secretary announced it…

The Torygraph along with other media will often fill the article of an event that did happen with a bunch of sensationalism.

Yeah but the sneaky media are trying to make it look like the British are entering the war.
"The mission, which will start when conditions allow"
I missed that above sentence, it means the deployment will happen when the war is over.

BBC reporting it too.
I'm equally confused as I thought we'd told Trump to sod off and go it alone.
Presumably a good day to bury the news though.
I get what u/Just_the_nicest_guy is, quite correctly, saying in that this will only happen once the fighting ends. But define "ends"? There's no actual fighting going on right now, and the region will never be truly at peace, by design.

Sneaky media trying to make it look like the UK are entering the war. The deployment to the strait won't happen until the war is over.
I've noticed that with worldwide media when they report events going on in my country, if there is a minor drought in one region of my country worldwide media make up a story and blow it up by saying New Zealand is running out of water, rivers are dried up, lakes are dried up, and the situation is critical. But it's just some farmers in one region of New Zealand that are going through a minor drought and complaining they are struggling with their crops and animal stock.

I think it's part of European coalition to reopen the strait and may d sell arms and protection to Arab states who have also been affected - realistically, unless we all want to pay 10 to 20% more (on top of the % more from Russian war, and % from pandemic and % from brexit etc - alled to costs and restrictions, mostly not returned fully back go normal) on most things, and much more on other things, what's the plan? Let mad men trump and Netanyahu, and mad men in Iran do their mad things and swallow costs and restrictions on freedom of navigation etc..
China will never take us seriously to avoid them seizing x y z also. But that's more usa situation, as a combined European force, or even as allies, is very far from being near level to take on such force - maybE one positive is that they may unite more and create a new military alliance or two (cananda Japan South Korea, Australia etc all interested I am sure, with such instability and nato being under threat)

This is the same theater that France is doing. They want to look like they're doing something without actually doing something. They are only proposing to patrol the strait after it has reopened. They won't lift a finger to do the actual reopening though.

Well obviously. Charging on in with a bunch of ships isn't a good idea.
But after a peace deal is made, Iran isn't going to trust Trump to patrol it with USA ships and nobody else will trust Iran not to do dodgy shit if someone isn't patrolling it. So someone has to step up as a middle ground. France and Britain volunteering for that makes the offramp to the conflict a lot easier.

**From The Telegraph:**
Britain is to deploy drones, jets and a warship to secure the Strait of Hormuz, the Defence Secretary has announced.
John Healey said the UK would send autonomous mine-hunting equipment and counter-drone systems, Typhoon jets and HMS Dragon, a Type 45 destroyer to secure freedom of navigation in the strait.
The move came as Iran threatened to start enriching weapons-grade uranium if Donald Trump reopened the conflict. The US president has said the ceasefire agreement is on “life support” after he dismissed the latest Iran peace proposal.
The strait remains closed to vessels while the US is maintaining its blockade of Iranian ports.
The UK and European allies previously expressed reluctance to get involved in the conflict.
But Mr Healey said: “With our allies, this multinational mission will be defensive, independent, and credible.”
The mission, which will start when conditions allow, is backed by £115m worth of new funding for mine-hunting drones and counter-drone systems.
It includes advanced autonomous mine-hunting equipment that can detect and defeat mines.
They will be deployed alongside the Navy’s modular “Beehive” system, which can deliver high-speed, autonomous Kraken drone boats to sense, track, identify and counter potential threats.
UK Typhoon jets, which the Ministry of Defence said were already battle-proven in the region, would be ready to conduct air patrols over the strait.
There will also be advanced British military mine-clearance specialists, who have been preparing in the UK to conduct mine-clearing operations.

Why would Britain even want to be in the mess? Iran has warned UK and France, and Iran will likely drone out British assets.

The exact reason the US has blocked it. Forcing other nations to join.

This is exactly what I figured would happen.
It's all well and good to oppose getting involved in the U.S's mess but at the end of the day Europe gets hurt just as hard if not harder by having the strait closed.
Knew this was coming.

If you said this on Listnook a few weeks ago you’d get downvoted although it was abundantly obvious.
Other nations can’t just sit around and wait it out whilst their economies collapse.

The UK economy is struggling and now they want lend a helping hand. They could’ve done this WEEKS ago. Instead they had to fake posture, Trump bad and look what it cost them. Taking their strategic position from Listnook lol.
The US economy will survive, everyone else, fucked. That’s what Listnook doesn’t tell you when they cherry pick what news to post.
