I'm not the person you're replying to, but I have an answer that might give some hope - sometimes there is no trigger. Sometimes, and this is usually the times it sticks, you wake up and realise that you want to, because you are worth it. Not anyone else, you - you rediscover your self worth, and want to do it for yourself. And the day that happens is the day you stop, or it was in my case, and often that day comes out of nowhere. I have a life, now - a bloody good one. A husband who I adore and two beautiful children, a stable job and a great relationship with my friends and extended family. I go on walks and enjoy the fresh air, and cook, and clean, and look after myself. I look great. I feel great.
Have hope. You deserve that.

> She checked in a few days ago somewhere in the United States. Sources with direct knowledge tell TMZ ... people close to the singer had been urging her to check herself in and she finally agreed to do so voluntarily.
> As one source put it ... "She realizes she hit rock bottom."
> Britney has had issues with drugs -- in particular Adderall -- and alcohol for years. During her many trips to Mexico, she made it a point to replenish her Adderall supply.
> Our sources say ... part of the reason she's gone to rehab now is because of her pending DUI case. As one source says, "She knows strategically this will look good in front of the judge -- that she's taking it seriously."

Well rn it's about making her not look like a total degenerate to the judge of her court case, and also any future or current deals which i'm sure shes got going on.
Much easier to rehab from alcohol and adhd meds than say fentanyl or some other hard drugs, that goes into the judges decisionmaking for punishment.

Not stupid but sometimes they need an excuse to help the defendant. America has always been about the rich and famous grtting preferential treatment.
For example: whichever judge decides Tiger’s fate is probably a golf fan and Tiger going to rehab will make it easier for them to grant some leniency.

Adderall helps me keep my dental appointments, clean up my apartment, and be a functioning memeber of society. Home girl is over here pole dancing with literal shit strewn around and her teeth look rotted - I think her drug dealers just slapped an “adderall” label on the meth and called it good, which makes sense considering most people assume they are the same despite being chemically different.

I’m glad she’s seeking the support she deserves. Being an addict doesn’t mean you need to be in a conservatorship. That’s not how it works with most people and it’s not how it should work with her. ITT: People who know f*** all about addiction
31
ddiamond848411 hr ago
+79
I’m a therapist that’s worked in detoxes and rehabs for the past 7 years. I really wish people would drop the terms junkie, addict, alcoholic, etc. I also went through major struggles with addiction and identified as an “addict” for a while.
They’re weaponized against people. I’ve never met someone struggling with addiction who didn’t have some major trauma in their life. They’re self medicating trauma survivors- but when they’re reduced to a label like junkie or addict, it wholly invalidates them. It’s saying “you are a problem” instead of “you have a problem.” It negatively impacts the court systems, hospital protocols, employment opportunities, and more and more aspects of society.
I think it’s ok to say someone is “addicted to drugs” or struggles with “alcoholism.” That’s a very different thing than calling someone an alcoholic or addict.
The opposite of addiction is connection, and all these terms do is perpetuate divisions between “addicts” and “normies” when both are just harmful terms. The sooner we drop those labels the better. We have to evolve and see people as more than their worst and most significant behaviors.
I’m arguing for the humanity of a demonized population.
79
linoleumknife10 hr ago
+17
Que? I was an alcoholic, still am really, just don't drink anymore and don't plan to do it again. But I don't get your problem with the term alcoholic. It's exactly what anybody should have called me back when I was drinking.
17
sleepysnowboarder8 hr ago
+10
Yeah 4 years clean and went through 6 months of rehab, I am 100% an addict, I'm not a "self medicating trauma survivor" that's just ridiculous, contrived, and way more belittling to me.
One of the first things in rehab you do is literally accept/admit you are an addict, there's nothing wrong with the term that defines what your problem is. Teaching people that they are a 'self medicating trauma survivor' sounds like a excuse for them to relapse
10
feellikebeingajerk10 hr ago
+14
People should look up the research on ACEs (Adverse Childhood Experiences). The more you have the higher your likelihood of issues as an adult. I’ve had a few friends successfully go through rehab and they both had a high count.
I think if people educated themselves on trauma they’d see the many different ways it manifests itself and they wouldn’t be so judgmental.
14
TheGloryBe_throwaway10 hr ago
+10
Junkie, sure. Addict and Alcoholic though? That’s just the truth if the person really is addicted or an alcoholic. If the plain and simple truth invokes such a negative response hurt response, then that means there’s more work to be done to get that person where they need to be- comfortable with the truth of their situation.

We don't "officially" know what caused her break... but what we do know, in general, is that mental illness is genetic. I'm not trying to take the blame away from her evil family - just that, our treatment for mental illness isn't completely dependent on having a hard life or not.

I posit that whatever drugs they required her to take during the conservatorship fucked her up more than anything she could do herself. The woman we see now is not the same woman who went into that conservatorship.

I always bring this up - but Kathy Griffin did a great bit about this like, "hey gays, great job freeing Britney! But ummmm.... did you think this through?"
