I have heard more than one industry insider remark: “Bruce Springsteen is not for sale”. He won’t care. It will fuel him.

Gotta say, I think being on Trump’s enemies list is exactly what he’s going for and really doesn’t care. He’s definitely a more popular musician than Robert James Ritchie ever will be.

Trump’s “weapon” is an extra hostile IRS audit against Springsteen. Springsteen’s activism is good publicity in the normal sense but also as “Born in the USA!” is popularly known as a jingoistic chant, contrary to the songs actual meaning it is valuable to Springsteen’s legacy to remind younger generations of that. Hell “Born in the USA” could be repurposed as a pro 14th amendment birthright citizenship, anti-MAGA chant in light of current events.

President Nixon very famously had an Enemies List, and it was full of celebrities and other notable figures. (I believe Leonard Nimoy was one of them.) Everyone on that list was proud of being on it, because many of them said so. I imagine that everyone on Trump’s Enemies List would feel the same way.
