I mean ive seem “made in america” as a thing for decades. And ive seen government and us business contracts that mandate percentages of US made product in them. Any sane person agrees with you.

So, the exact same policy as Trump is touting for the US but another country... It's almost like... ah f*** that guy.

I'm not too up-to-date on the details of your guys' policy, but America has had a "Buy American" policy for ages.  Govt contracting like Canada's, the Fly America act, just general propaganda to support American products.  Really don't see why the kettle should be complaining that the pot is black there. Looks like from the article a large part of it is booze. Makes sense, provincial liquor boards aren't gonna buy US booze, because Canadians won't buy it, and rightly so. When an idiot threatens your sovereignty, you don't do things that'll give him more tax money.

Trump is the weakest link. Get rid of him and we can all move forward.

First time there was a chance it was a honest mistake and people were tricked. Making the same. Mistake again just shows there's always a significant chance

I never thought it would happen here. Hope it never happens there.

I'd like to think so, but we've got to put a lot of effort into fixing our broken systems so this sorta thing can't happen again.  Nobody is gonna trust us if we don't, and it'll take a lot of time and effort for that to work. A lot of what we need is strong amendments, and even if we got the 3/4 of state legislatures, it'd take winning every senate seat to get a 2/3 majority in that chamber, and we've still got turncoats like Fetterman in that count.  So it'll be at least until 2028 that we can start fixing these things.  Even if we could pick up one or two Republicans to support impeachment before that.

The hypocrisy of the U.S. position is lost on no one including their trade team. To them it simply doesn’t matter. If we want access to U.S. markets we are expected to set aside all of our own tactical and strategic trade imperatives and simply adopt what they prescribe. They see all trade talks as steps to them achieving their will. Period. That reality is what makes me laugh out loud when little PP starts going on about how he would remove all U.S. tariffs and strike a deal on his terms. The boy is both desperate and delusional.

It's a grass roots movement... not sure what the hell they expected. Canadians hate the Trump admin, why would they want to support America's economy over their own?

Syrairc Apr 1, 2026 +3
Doesn't matter. They'll come up with bullshit for every country they want to tariff.

This from the country shouting made in America and 1920’s protectionist rhetoric. Conservatives are the same everywhere, fundamentally hypocritical.

I’m fine if the government dialled back the messaging or decided to allow US liquor on shelves. Most people have moved on anyways and the damage will likely not be undone for a while
