Only in one area code, though. That really needs to be made more clear before people outside that area code just try calling it like a local number and start flooding someone with calls yet again.

Yah for years in my area (RI) it was the number for a plumbing company

I grew up in 757 and whoever owned it hooked it up to an answering machine that played a clip of the song. No identifying info or advertising, just the song. I can't remember if you could leave a message.

I’m not actually sure Ben would have minded much how well he knew her…

Lifehack: use your area code and 867-5309 when you’re at a store to get the discounts without having to give your number. It’s literally worked 100% of the time for me.

I do that too! I really enjoy the puzzled look on their face when they ask me my name and see that there are like 200 names attached to that number. And sadly the number itself almost never gets recognized when I use it.

8,675,309 is a prime number. In fact, it's a "twin prime," along with 8,675,311.

Now that is a fun fact that my little math nerd brain did not expect today

Protip: Every store loyalty program will have this number in its system. Use the local area code and get discounts!

Protip: if you are traveling and need a "loyalty card" at checkout to receive the best price use: (local area code)8675309 I got $.30 off per gallon in Montana doing this.

That's actually pretty brilliant. Most people who were around to hear this song when it was on the charts have cancer now.

It would be 831. Chased after this story that ‘Jenny’ was indeed from Monterey county. https://www.reddit.com/r/MontereyBay/s/0YLAIUFpkU EDIT: errr drunk post, 408

Hate to tell you this, but the evidence you found is bullshit, the 831 area code didn't exist when the song was written. People around the SF bay have been trying to claim that Jenny was from their town for decades. The band was from San Francisco and played all around the bay, and yeah, likely down into the Monterey Bay area too, not that it matters. The area codes for SF and most of the south bay (and into Monterey) were 415 and 408 respectively. Those are the most likely area codes, but still, not at all likely. I say that because one of the many touring keyboardists for Tommy Tutone did sound at The Usual in San Jose the night my band opened for Jerey Cantrell. His name was Mike or Doug or something generic. Anyway, he told me that there might've been a Jenny in either Los Gatos or Saratoga, and that the phone number in the song was not hers.

If you call that number in the 603 area code, you actually get a cell phone of a woman who is named Jenny. She thought it would be a hoot to have that number…. Until I used it as a fake number under my internic account, then when my website viral in 1999. She lived to regret it

In some area codes, 867-5309 gets you to an open conference call. It’s kinda fun to call in, you sometimes get other people calling in. It could be another bored person you can chat with, or it could be a telemarketer that you can mess with.
