Honest first thought was that shards of Narsil didn’t sell for enough. Proof I’d be a terrible rich person. Just out there vastly overbidding on nerdy props

To be fair, the shards of Narsil are featured very briefly in Fellowship and King, whereas 3POs head has a lot of screen time over tons of movies

And it's Star Wars. Sure LoTR is massive too and has many many fans, but not Star Wars massive level of fans.

But do which film do you think would make more money at the BO? A new Star Wars or a new LOTR?

We'll be finding out pretty soon! Probably every few years from now until the heat death of the universe.

In a galaxy far too close.

Is this sarcasm?

Strange_Botanist Mar 27, 2026 +1
Yea but you can reforge the shards to become Anduril

HumansNeedNotApply1 Mar 27, 2026 +7
Honestly the prop looked very underwhelming when i watched Adam's video on tested.

paulc899 Mar 27, 2026 +7
No they’d be worth it. You can leave them on a table in your hall and start every day by saying “Still Sharpe” like Sean Bean did
7
caityqs Mar 27, 2026 +4
heck, if you’ve got that kind of money to burn, you can also pay Viggo Mortensen to pick them up for you after you storm out.

You can’t spend the money in the afterlife, so I’d spend that shit on dumb things, too.

I’m pretty sure I can rig something up that will have Amazon packages delivered to my grave.

Good thing we allow billionaires to exist E: what I meant was this is why we shouldn’t allow people to become exorbitantly wealthy. Being wealthy doesn’t necessarily mean you are smart or good, so why should you be allowed to dictate what we do with OUR resources? I want a smart, good person in charge of making those decisions, not just some random c***.

im_on_the_case Mar 27, 2026 +6
Wasn't screen matched, so they weren't able to verify it was the actual prop used in the movie vs a spare. Surprised it went for more than Wilson from Cast Away.
6
Exciting_Control Mar 27, 2026 +4
Also wasn’t a “hero” prop for close ups. If it was used it was only in the background.

NoPossibility Mar 27, 2026 +37
$252,000 and a six pack for your weekend-warrior black smith buddy could give you the keys to a whole kingdom.

StillStanding_96 Mar 27, 2026 +4
That same blacksmith would tell you that swords don’t shatter like that when you step on them. Those shards would need to be a custom job
4
Xeno_phile Mar 27, 2026 +4
Adam Savage put out a video recently looking at them and they definitely don’t fit together.
4
DawmCorleone Mar 27, 2026 +3
Cant expect every single piece to have been picked up
3
StillStanding_96 Mar 27, 2026 +2
Oh no! I didn’t even think about that.
2
MD_Lincoln Mar 27, 2026 +1
They had a note added, they were able to source a note from the maker of the prop that laid out each shard and where it “fit” to make a complete sword.

I’m just waiting for the iron from Home Alone to be up for auction

Id much rather have the ornaments I can forcefully stomp my bare feet on

MatHatesGlitter Mar 27, 2026 +3
The prototype turtle doves sold at auction a few years back for only like $250.
3
PointOfFingers Mar 27, 2026 +22
Narsil would have sold for more if Sauron hadn't shattered it
22
StillStanding_96 Mar 27, 2026 +8
Would Andúril be worth more or less? Because technically it’s a repair and antiques are always more valuable if they’re in original mint condition
8
MisterManatee Mar 27, 2026 +2
Usually, but not exclusively. For example, rebinding rare books can, in some cases, improve their value if the original is in extremely poor condition and the book binder does exceptional work. I think the very poor condition of Narsil, plus the skill of the Elvish smiths at Rivendell, would make Anduril worth more. Plus, Anduril has utility that Narsil lacks (summoning the allegiance of an undead army, provided that the wielder is the true king of Gondor).

JackhorseBowman Mar 27, 2026 +6
It's because they were reforged, it ruined their collectability, sorta like when you polish an old coin

alex-2099 Mar 27, 2026 +1
“I’m not paying full price for a shattered sword. Also, I was told this thing would shine like the sun and the moon?”

The greatest part of this auction was the "butt birth" mechanical rhino from "Ace Ventura: Pet Detective" just selling for $59,850 😂

Shot-Possibility-399 Mar 27, 2026 +4
From what I heard the prop was in prettt rough shape. It was shitty rubber built to last long enough for him to crawl out of it. I think it was dry cracked and crumbling
4
piscian19 Mar 27, 2026 +7
I'm just glad those hack frauds didn't get it.
7
Salty-Recording752 Mar 27, 2026 +9
Thats insane money for a prop. But honestly, seeing C-3POs head in a private collection just feels wrong. That thing belongs in a museum.

Shaman7102 Mar 27, 2026 +12
Tax the rich.

Thats the only thing im getting from this...

JackhorseBowman Mar 27, 2026 +2
Considering the money some have blown on sealed toys-r-us cases of NES games, I figured that head would've gone for considerably more.
2
Ok_Bake_8256 Mar 27, 2026 +2
The Narsil price is actually low-key wild. That's the literal sword that cut the Ring from Sauron's hand. For movie history, $252k feels like a steal next to a droid head.
2
TwoDramaticc Mar 27, 2026 +2
loool C3PO is one of the 2 most popular droids in the entire movie/tv history, it's an actual on screen prop used, it's in great condition and has cool lights
2
Frothar Mar 27, 2026 +1
Depends on your movie preferences. Star wars fans want C3PO and lord of the rings fans would want the shards. I think if the hero sword that Viggo owns went on sale it would clear the head
1
TwoDramaticc Mar 27, 2026 +1
If Viggo sold his sword, I would say yes. It's been with him for 20+ years and was used on screen. but it wouldn't beat Vader's lightsaber that went for 3.6M
1
MD_Lincoln Mar 27, 2026 +1
The prop being sold wasn’t the “hero” prop seen up close, but a rubber stand-in for used for other shots.
1
jim9162 Mar 27, 2026 +1
How much did the Ring sell for?

All that money just so you can say "I have this and you don't, because it's the only one."

Fan love and nostalgia really are priceless. This is wild.

Thats insane money for a prop. I guess the real question is, does the head come with the red arm?
-1
IcyFly5274 Mar 27, 2026
Thats insane money for a disembodied robot head. The force is strong with some wallets.
0
Rare-Age-6157 Mar 27, 2026
Thats insane money for a severed head. The Narsil price actually feels low by comparison, its the sword that defeated Sauron!
