Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco has seized more than half a million ballots cast in a November special election from county election officials, saying he’s investigating a ballot count discrepancy.

Looked it up because I thought Governor's usally make less and in 2025 California Governor's salary was 245,929. Now I don't know how California is about sheriff's but I know in some states they're allowed to basically do whatever they want. Like keep and use seized property (using seized cars and boats). Also usally no one in any state makes a fuss out of a sheriff using his police car for regular personal use.
His biggest "bonus" is going to be a very large step up in the Republican party ladder. Also insider trading.

"full compensation" would typically include anything paid by the employer that isn't cash in hand for the employee, so to speak.
Retirement contribution, insurances, take home vehicle, fuel for the vehicle, clothing/cleaning, allowances for work related items, discounted or free items provided by the county, etc. Potentially any on going education the agency pays for, travel, all those things.

Looks like the courts have already interviened sufficiently.
> Bianco said Friday that the count had started and stopped, but would now resume under the supervision of a special master appointed by a judge.
In which case, I'm fine with the recount. I assume the City is paying for it, so Riverside County taxpayers can watch their tax money wasted. They appointed the guy twice so that seems fair.
> Bianco said the alleged discrepancy amounted to about 45,800 votes — a difference elections officials have refuted at county meetings, saying the machine count and the final count submitted to the state differed by about 100 votes.
So we wait to see what his count discovered. The likely outcome is it will reflect no fraud/malfeasance.

252
kaptainkeelMar 23, 2026

That's pretty much the key thing, right? Chain of evidence/control. He had a direct motive to do something with them. If they were ever in his control--even at all--then any change goes out the window unless it can somehow be 100% verified there is no possibility whatsoever that anything was changed by him.
100
androshalforc1Mar 23, 2026

It sounds like the boxes have been in police custody for at least two months and that that have already been ‘hand counting’ them to some extent.
34
kaptainkeelMar 23, 2026

Precisely. So if there is any change in numbers after a recount, it would be questionable at best. I wouldn't trust any number that comes from a recount if there is any significant difference (i.e. more than a 1-2 vote difference).
33
OrthodoxAtheistMar 23, 2026
+10
If his recount confirms his allegations, then we talk chain of custody, depose those involved, swearing under penalty of perjury etc., and generally treat the whole affair like he is committing fraud.
If his recount confirms what we already know - that the hand count and computer count different by about 100, then we say "See, we told ya", and move on.

Now, it is my understanding that this guy took possession of the ballots, and is the one running for governor? Seems like a lot of trust to put in someone who is a republican with a conflict of interest - to not have tampered with what was seized. Why is this even being entertained?

Regardless of who is present to witness a recount, if the chain of custody was broken during the seizure of those ballots, any recounts of those ballots shouldn't be valid. As others have said, it's possible that the ballots have been tampered-with (and without maintaining chain of custody, there's no way to insure the integrity of those ballots).
24
OrthodoxAtheistMar 23, 2026
+2
Agreed. So we wait for the outcome of his recount. If it matches our expectations - 100 or so different, a negligible amount, and irrelevant. Then no further action required. If he alleged a very different outcome, then we investigate the c*** out of everything he did, while throwing reminders to the public of his dishonesty and ineptitude.

Worst of all, the neocon media empire work to keep the bubble going. We laugh but the strategy i dont think is to overturn CA elections. They want to find. .0001% proof of like 3 cases of fraud that they can take to trump and they're propaganda machine to exaggerate as much as possible. They will then use this to either try to skew elections in their direction Ie save act, over turn close battle state elections or even foment rebellion in worst case scenarios. They've been marginally successful in all 3. Dems keep saying we have to win by so much that I won't be close enough to steal buy it may come down to somethinh like that. It's disgusting but he right have a few slimy asshoems uptop controlling a well oiled, evil machine that uses its grubhy fingers to grasp and pas at whatever little advantage it can get, whatever crumb they can reach their tentacles in. It's all under the guise of resona me thought, like Save act asking for ID, but as soon as the response is reasonable, like issuing voter ids that don't ignore marganalized and poor parts of society all the sudden it's unreasonable to think that not all voters can afford a 150$ passport in a near recession.

Voter fraud is *NOT* the problem! This is *ELECTION* fraud. Voter fraud is when one person votes fraudulently. A single f****** vote. These are almost always due some mistaken belief by the voter. It's small and insignificant in most elections.
Election fraud is when you mess with the system and large vote counts. This can and does throw elections.

Worth noting that in California, we have a top two jungle primary system where the top two vote getters advance to the general election regardless of what party they are from. Currently, there are so many Dems running that they are splitting the vote and there’s a legitimate chance Bianco and Fox New contributor Steve Hilton could be the gubernatorial general election candidates in the fall. The ballots have also been finalized, so even if the low polling Dem candidates drop out, they’ll still potentially draw votes simply because they are listed.

Throw his ass in jail. If he's running, in no way should he be interfering with the election. That should be automatic grounds for disqualification and/or jail for tampering with an election.

Does he even have the authority to do that..?
Edit: nvm I looked it up.
> Election administration is not a law enforcement function. It’s handled by:
- county election officials
- the Secretary of State
Even California officials explicitly said:
- sheriffs “are not elections officials” and don’t run recounts or ballot handling
He can do it if there is clear evidence of a crime.
But there doesn’t seem to be sufficient probable cause of a crime to justify the warrants

Newsom could override the County Sheriff and mandate the Sheriff release the ballots and end his investigation. This is a non-issue unless the State of Calif wants to let this nonsense run its course.
The local Sheriff can seize wtf he wants until if/when the State Governor orders him to stop.
A potential candidate to the upcoming empty Governor spot does not overrule the sitting Governor.

He's just trying to appeal to MAGA voters in the central valley and far northern Calabama part of the state. This is red meat for redhats.

Hey dipshit Republicans, if you want more votes, do something that makes more people want to vote for you rather than disenfranchise votes for the opposition.

[We don’t need sheriffs anymore.](https://youtu.be/gt5I3V5hWkU?si=aL416feN-G79Z-xh) Whenever you read a police corruption story 90% of the time it’s a sheriff. It’s an executive position with little oversight and a lot of authority. And as we’ve seen with anything of this nature it corrupts.

This needs to wake the dem candidates up to actually get a few of them to drop out. This jungle primary is potentially such an own goal.

We need a national reconciliation with charlatans using political candidate status to raid the treasury and commit crimes; as if the very fact of running for office should shield them from contempt of the law.

Just watch all the YouTube video's on Sheriff and Police corruption with no consequences. Do you want this for the State of CA? All Politicians are liars and really only in the job for the $$$ and perks of office. This isn't a party problem, it is a morality and ethics issue.

I get it, a Trump supporter fooling with ballots to provide proof to Donnie of voting fraud. Let me guess, any fraud found leads back to the GOP supporters. This person needs to be put in prison with the fake electors. And the Jan 6th criminals walking free. I sure hope the next president revokes the Jan 6th pardons and puts them in prison where they belong. That way Pam Bondi can have some cell mates.
