Crazy that there are places in the world where joining the Russian Army is considered an upgrade.

They’re typically deceived into thinking they’ll be doing support work rather than sent to assault teams used as bait to identify firing positions.

Well, technically being cannon fodder is supportive.

The only thing russian cannon fodder supports is the share price of Rheinmetall

Man, even knowing exactly what will happen to them, for some it's worth it. Quick google says Russia pays foreign soldiers ~$2000 per month and that's after you're having your basic needs met, so you can send the full amount home to your family. Minimum wage in my country is around $43 per month which you have to live off of. If you're working a minimum wage job here you're getting close to 4 years salary in a month on top of food and housing if you instead go off to fight in Russia. If I offered you 4x your yearly salary every month and also free food and housing on top of that you'd probably consider enlisting as well.

Nope those payments are stolen from Russian volunteers let alone Africans as soon as they join a unit or used to pay off commanders in order to not be assigned to assaults, it’s well documented by Russians who returned. So again they’re misled and deceived by false promises. They’re never expected to stay alive long enough to pay anything out.

That's not really relevant to the point, they don't know that when they enlist. Can't act on information that you don't have available to you. If you genuinely thought you would get that kind of money, you'd give some serious thought to enlisting.

Seems some do otherwise enlistment figures would be a lot higher.

there is no internet access in cameroon?

TooLateRunning 3 days ago +3
The people who are in that kind of desperate situation generally cannot afford regular internet access and are often only semi-literate. They don't have enough technological savvy or experience with the internet to be able to find information like that.

i have quite a lot of difficulty believing that.

We are talking about the same kind of people who arrested a goat because they were chasing a thief and lost track of him when he went around a corner, then saw a goat standing there and concluded that the thief must have shapeshifted in an attempt to hide. [Real thing that actually happened.](https://www.reuters.com/article/lifestyle/nigerian-police-detain-goat-over-armed-robbery-idUSTRE50M4BM/)

Yeah no they are not making that money. Previous articles I read describe the money never getting there and or being stolen. By the time they get to the front they are NOT free men making a decision. They are pushed into the assault units and force fed into the grinder.

\> If I offered you 4x your yearly salary every month and also free food and housing on top of that you'd probably consider enlisting as well. I lived through quite a bad financial situation until my early 20s - there were periods when I haven't had enough money to buy food on some days. Your statement makes my blood boil. I find it completely despicable and dehumanising to reduce me to a chunk of materialistic desires. I am now in top 1% of the UK earners, however I am originally from a poor country. Neither back then when I had nothing to my name, nor now would I kill people for money. I do not care how much your offer is. As my mother likes to say "The most expensive thing in this world is morals - you can't buy them". And you, my fellow human appear to be dirt poor.

I'm not sure why you're taking what I said so personally my guy. If you don't think people can be convinced to do things they consider immoral with a large enough financial incentive then I don't know what to tell you. Maybe you're a shining paragon of virtue who can't be swayed by money, but then you're the exception, not the rule. I'm not saying every person can be bought, i'm saying with the right incentive you can convince a good chunk of them.

Only idiots can believe russia if they know at least anything about them. And you have to know something about the country you are going to go for work.

I’m really sick of how they “use” them, too. There are videos of those guys when a Russian speaking person says “they don’t speak the language and are of no use for us, so we do this”. They tie a land mine to their chest and back and send them forward, solo. Call this “a can opener”, because Ukrainians fire at him, almost always there is an explosion and Ukrainian positions are obvious after that.

One might ask the question why are Cameroonians fighting in the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Money and a pathway to Russian citizenship so they can relocate with their families. And before the usual “who would want to move to that shithole,” for a lot of people from this part of the world, Russia is actually an upgrade. Cities like Moscow and St. Petersburg aren’t that different from other major European cities. With citizenship, you also get access to universities and other opportunities. It’s also worth remembering that people in the Global South aren’t looking at this through some moral lens. The West doesn’t give a shit about their conflicts or their people dying, so they don’t feel obligated to care about Europe’s either.

Terrible leaders, sacrificing their own people to suck up to Putin.

So 16×20=320, which is closer to the actual truth.
