Never really heard of the CM until yesterday. I watched the 2021 version for the Jordan Peale connection and then found the 1992 release.
I really think these are GF1 and GF2 of horror. I like the top down and then the bottom up perspectives of Chicago. Then there’s the setting in Cabrini Green and the evolution of it. It’s generational. 1980s icon and celeb Vanesa Williams played in both and of the same character. Both are gritty and engaging as well.
Probably Godfather 1 and 2 which is crazy high praise, even as a big fan haha

Unnecessary listnook shorthand.
I get it back in the days when we did text on T9. Nowadays there's no excuse to not spell the whole f****** thing out.
No need for unnecessary acronyms.
I prefer to misinterpret them just to be pedantic

I'm a Chicagoan. Candyman is an absolute classic. The 2021 sequel is great too. He deserves to be up there with the other horror icons, they just didn't make a lot of movies in the series like the other big slasher franchises. Also love to see the social justice themes within a horror movie.
Illinois is spoiled for horror. Candyman for the city and Michael Myers for the rural folks.
Crazy how one of the most infamous neighborhoods in Chicago has been bulldozed and became a Target.

I’m from Indiana and lived in Chicago for five years, right in Streeterville not all that far from the last couple of towers of Cabrini before it was demolished. It’s absolutely a classic. The city and the film wore each other like that massive coat of Tony Todd’s. 🐝🏙️

No offense, but I think it's funny you consider the suburbs to be "rural". Maybe it's because Chicago is such a big city.

I may be wrong, but I think Haddonfield, IL has been traditionally more rural than the map in Halloween the Curse of Michael Myers depicts briefly. The OGs felt small town, not like Naperville equivalents

He's just a little brought down because when you knocked
He thought you were the candy man
Ooos! Wrong candyman.

I only got around to seeing these last year, and I regretted waiting so long. They're great, and somewhat thought provoking.

The Chicago housing projects were the real horror story here.

The original story is by Clive Barker, taking place in England. I.thi k it's called the Forbidden Fear - a short story. But, I do love anything with Tony Todd.

Candyman is a tot classic for xennials. It was on TV a lot when I was a kid. Scary shit! The remake was pretty excellent (just too long).

The original Candyman is one of my favorite horror movies. Something about the sense of dread it instills in you while Candyman drives the protagonist insane is so creepy and good.

Candyman the original is absolutely legendary but I was floored by the angle Jordan Peele took. So impressive and moving in such an unexpected way. I love both.

The original is great, the reboot had promise but felt like it was ripped apart by the studio. Would like to see Dacostas vision, because what was released had a mess of a third act
