[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mr.\_Burns,\_a\_Post-Electric\_Play](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mr._Burns,_a_Post-Electric_Play) Boots Riley is currently working on a film adaption of a play that is based on an episode of the Simpsons

BeginningOil5960 Mar 31, 2026 +4
That is one of the most beautiful, American, artistically creative and free sentences I have ever read.
4
Wazzoo1 Mar 31, 2026 +1
I saw it back in 2015-ish. It's a pretty interesting concept. I enjoyed it, even with my limited knowledge of The Simpsons (never really watched it). My parents were thoroughly confused though. It would probably help to know that episode, though.
1
Conspiranoid Apr 1, 2026 +1
I'm still trying to reconcile with whatever I read in that wiki's Plot section... But I do know it's beautiful, and I wish I could see it.

Only just watched Cape Fear the other week and I was laughing at how aggressively the Simpsons parodied it. Made the film so much fun than I think it was meant to be.
17
SteveBorden Mar 31, 2026 +10
There’s actually a movie coming out based on a play where a post apocalyptic group tour the world performing the bits they can remember from that episode, leading to a religion about the Simpsons prevailing
10
S2R2 Mar 31, 2026 +9
I’ve been on this site so long I have no idea if this is real or not!

1
heingericke_ Mar 31, 2026 +138
Mitchum and Peck did cameos in the 1991 remake. It'd be really cool if De Niro and Nolte popped up in this somewhere.
138
turkeyvulturebreast Mar 31, 2026 +29
It was a remake back then? TIL, and now I got to go look this up.
29
Food_Kitchen Mar 31, 2026 +40
Yeah they remake Cape Fear every 30 years or so it seems.
40
Hot_Porking Mar 31, 2026 +23
It's the A Star is Born for men.
23
Food_Kitchen Mar 31, 2026 +3
Was hoping that was Scarface, but the remake that Steven Soderbergh wanted to make never got off the ground.
3
Sportfreunde Mar 31, 2026 +5
Man they were remaking 30s movies back in the 40s and 50s lol.
5

I dont usually go to bat for remakes, but this is a good one.

GuileMD Mar 31, 2026 +54
to me nothing is will be quite as unsettling as Cady (De Niro) preying on Danielle (Juliette Lewis)
54
Bluest_waters Mar 31, 2026 +25
De Niro was actually very calm through most of that movie, and somehow that made it more terrifying
25
Hot_Porking Mar 31, 2026 +4
It's good that Juliette Lewis just looks really young but was an adult or at least close to it in Cape Fear. I found this out after Tarantino made her (character) ask his character to "eat her p****" in From Dusk Till Dawn. When she was playing a character who was underaged.
4
MrDeadbutdreaming Apr 1, 2026 +1
De Niro paid his dentist to shave his teeth to have a more unsettling smile, and transformed to into the image of a hardened convict with brutal workouts with barely any carbs to stay lean. This is not his most famous role but it is one that you never forget after seeing it.
1
Hungry_Horace Mar 31, 2026 +10
Possibly Mitchum preying on Lori Martin. A more subtle performance but very uncomfortable.
10
GuileMD Mar 31, 2026 +5
you know I've never watched the original. iI'll go check it out!
5
Innsmouth_Swimteam Mar 31, 2026 +3
Both versions are excellent, IMO.
3
MRintheKEYS Mar 31, 2026 +2
Yeah. Rare case while the remake is the same beats, it focuses on different details.
2
DroptheShadowArt Mar 31, 2026 +10
Yeah, I’d like to be surprised, by DeNiro is despicable *and* believable in that movie. Braden looks like a character (the blue contacts are a bit much), which might detract from the *realness* of it. Don’t get me wrong, DeNiro’s Max was outlandish, but he sold it. It will be interesting to see if Braden sticks the landing too.
10
OkStrategy685 Apr 1, 2026 +2
Yeah, that one scene was hard to watch lol

My favorite part is when Homer throws out his coffee because it's too hot and it splashes on Sideshow Bob. Like if you're coffee is too hot you just wait for it to cool down but Homer's going to Homer lol
27
mattisafriend Mar 31, 2026 +15
The whole episode is heightening. The elephants, the rakes, it's perfect.
15
peon2 Mar 31, 2026 +6
Yeah it's my favorite episode of the entire show. Lots of people say Monorail or Homer's Enemy but Cape Feare wins for me.
6
0xE4-0x20-0xE6 Mar 31, 2026 +2
“Now when I say hello Mr. Thompson and press down on your foot, you smile and nod.” “No problem.” “Hello Mr. Thompson.” *looks at other FBI agent* “I think he’s talking to you.”
2
Mr-Nanny Mar 31, 2026 +1
You expect it to be too cold and Homer throws it because it’s too hot. Genius
1
mootallica Mar 31, 2026 +15

10 episodes seems like a stretch, but I'll give it a shot.

1
JustARealTreat Mar 31, 2026 +44
How does Amy Adams manage to have four different accents in the teaser?
44
peon47 Mar 31, 2026 +20
It's called "range"!
20
DroptheShadowArt Mar 31, 2026 +14
I feel like I can never buy her as a normal person. She can be a scientist talking to aliens or a storybook princess brought to life, but I just can’t see her as someone’s wife or mother.
14
TheTruckWashChannel Mar 31, 2026 +19
Watch Sharp Objects. She's not exactly "normal" but it's a more grounded role and she kills it.
19
Sudley Mar 31, 2026 +1
I thought she was great as D*** Cheney's wife in Vice, but don't know if that's considered "normal"
1
OCGamerboy Apr 1, 2026 +1
What accents did she do
1
hanoverf Mar 31, 2026 +10
Guess I'm subbing to apple tv just for the episode where Javier Bardem steps on a rake

Love the DeNiro one and this one looks fire as well. Looking forward to this.
26
skag_boy87 Mar 31, 2026 +36
You should check out the original with Gregory Peck and Robert Mitchum.
36
ItsSoLitRightNow Mar 31, 2026 +14
I've seen it! Enjoyable as well, but def prefer the DeNiro one to that one. And I dunno who downvoted you for the suggestion, but Listnook is weird that way.
14
skag_boy87 Mar 31, 2026 +4
I love Peck’s cameo in Scorsese’s version. There’s a doc about Peck where at one point he talks about how they gave him a choice to play a judge, a law enforcement officer, or a crazy old southern Christian lawyer, and he just laughs and says “Crazy Christian lawyer!!”
4
ArchDucky Mar 31, 2026
Uh... the original is on The Simpsons. The Gregory Peck one used a now banned time travel device to steal the concept from The Simpsons and claim it as their own.
0
Food_Kitchen Mar 31, 2026 +2
Downvoting bots that have no sense of humor.
2
skag_boy87 Mar 31, 2026 +1
Dunno why you’re getting downvoted for a clearly friendly tongue in cheek joke. Sometimes Listnook has no chill.

I hope there is an episode dedicated to Bardem stepping on rakes.
4

6
latestwonder Mar 31, 2026 +25

25
RockerElvis Mar 31, 2026 +12
Agreed, but how do they get a series out of this?
12
WySLatestWit Mar 31, 2026 +11
It lasts one season and ends. That's the only way it could possibly work.
11
wusurspaghettipolicy Mar 31, 2026 +6
And then he smells crime again, he's out busting heads. Then he's back to the lab for some more full penetration. Smells crime. Back to the lab, full penetration. Crime. Penetration. Crime. Full penetration. Crime. Penetration. And this goes on and on and back and forth for 90 or so minutes until the movie just sort of ends.
6
johnmd20 Mar 31, 2026 +1
Underrated listnooking right here. :)
1
Upbeat_Tension_8077 Mar 31, 2026 +8
Javier Bardem playing an absolute psychopath again? I'm definitely in
8
AffectionateExam8392 Mar 31, 2026 +4
It would be really hard to surpass the De Niro version. That's a tense, scary movie.
4
thegoddamnbatman40 Mar 31, 2026 +5
Can we get some original content? Like just a lil?
5
TomKansasCity Mar 31, 2026 +2
I am still traumatized by Patrick Wilson’s role in the movie Hard Candy and honestly I still do not like him. In the 90s I saw the remake of Cape Fear with Robert De Niro, directed by Martin Scorsese, and it was pretty damn good. Robert Mitchum was still alive and had a small role in the film, which was cool considering he was in the original back in the 60s. I guess this new film makes it the 3rd version of Cape Fear? Jesus dudes. That doesn't happen often, lol. There is a scene in the 1991 remake of Cape Fear with Juliette Lewis and De Niro, on the stage, I think it was, on a set of a play and it's still one of the most creepy fckn scenes ever.
2
SergeOko Mar 31, 2026 +2
JB is playing a bag guy. I’m in 🙌🏼
2
santacow Mar 31, 2026 +2
Is this the third or fourth remake of this?
2
zooalbert Mar 31, 2026 +2
Nah, if they don’t use that score from Scorsese’s film I don’t want any part of it. Bardem will absolutely kill it tho.
2
Monster-Zero Mar 31, 2026 +2
that's great, love that this is getting a TV show, but where the hell is the trailer for Neuromancer already??
2
lonelyspect12 Mar 31, 2026 +2
another tv remake of a great movie. -\_-
2
1footN Mar 31, 2026 +5
Last thing I need right now is another long drawn out season of waiting for an a****** to lose. I know I’m in the minority, but I’m done with the 1 season arc to resolve the villain/ problem .
5
DroptheShadowArt Mar 31, 2026 +1
Not trying to be rude, but what’s the alternative? That it takes several seasons or that there’s less conflict? If anything, I think the issue is that we all know how the movie ends, so we’re all just sitting around waiting for that to happen.
1
Rhawk187 Mar 31, 2026 +1
I think they are suggesting a story where you don't know the ending.
1
DroptheShadowArt Apr 1, 2026 +1
Yeah, that was my point. The problem isn’t the one season arc, it’s the retread of old stories.
1
BenjiSBRK Mar 31, 2026 +4
They cast Javier Bardem as Sideshow Bob ?
4
TheFrontierzman Mar 31, 2026 +3
Why?
3
WySLatestWit Mar 31, 2026 +8
Wait we're getting another Cape Fear remake? Okay... but... why?
8
TerryGranules Mar 31, 2026 +33
it's been 35 years?
33
Morgan-Moonscar Mar 31, 2026 +9
66 if we want to get oldschool.
9
TerryGranules Mar 31, 2026 +5
hope they all screamed at Scorsese in whatever the equivalent of an anonymous internet shouty forum was back then for such unoriginality and not needing another version
5
barriekansai Mar 31, 2026 +1
One year after Goodfellas was released? Nope, they said nothing. The fact that the 1991 film included the two main actors from the original 1962 film was a nice touch, I thought.
1
Kruse Mar 31, 2026 +2
> it's been 35 years? So? Is there some predetermined timeframe that means things have to be remade?
2
TerryGranules Mar 31, 2026 +2
Yes that's precisely what I meant, yes.
2
Kruse Mar 31, 2026 +1
But why? Should the Star Wars: A New Hope be remade because the original film is nearly 50 years old now? Remaking classics just seems unnecessary.
1
TerryGranules Mar 31, 2026 +1
But it's for the streaming audiences who want 10 hours of content, not about trying to perfect the previous film.
1
SupervillainMustache Mar 31, 2026 +8
I mean the first remake is a classic in it's own right. Also Scorsese is involved with this one, so I'm cautiously optimistic
8
Mehdals_ Mar 31, 2026 +2
You can't remake perfection especially when Side Show Bob did such a great performance at the end.
2
Rhawk187 Mar 31, 2026 +1
1) This is a 10 episode mini-series, not a film, so it's good for people that prefer long form story telling. 2) A lot of people today don't watch anything from before they were born for whatever reason.
1
Alastor3 Mar 31, 2026 +2
Javier Bardem? Sign me up!
2
HotOne9364 Mar 31, 2026 +5
Amy Adams? You dropped your Emmy.
5
Iggy_Pops_Lost_Shirt Mar 31, 2026 +12
Her accent is soooo bad
12
grimsaur Mar 31, 2026 +3
Is it supposed to be a North Carolina accent? She's got the front half, but she's missing the twang at the end.
3
ILoveRegenHealth Mar 31, 2026 +3
She dropped her Emmy onto her diaphragm and it affected her accent
3
Alternative-Juice-15 Mar 31, 2026 +4
Hollywood is officially out of ideas. It’s so pathetic.
4
jaybizzleeightyfour Mar 31, 2026 +2
It's refreshing that a streamer lets their content be shot by quality cinematographers whereas Netflix will insist all theirs is shot by Chuck Lorres team
2
grimace24 Mar 31, 2026 +1
I know it's a teaser but that looked pretty bad.
1
u119c Mar 31, 2026 +1
Why turn killer “couple hour” movies into series’s. This will get old asap.
1
ILoveRegenHealth Mar 31, 2026 +1
With so much talent involved (Spielberg, Scorsese, many great actors), I don't think this looks very good at all given the names involved. Take away the title "Cape Fear" and all those names and it looks like a c**** Netflix thriller of the week. Was expecting better visual imagery at least. It could be that it's far better than the trailer shows, but that trailer sure didn't do much for those outsiders not familiar with Cape Fear.
1
DataDude00 Mar 31, 2026 +1
I like Bardem and he seems like he is going to be creepy as f*** but his accent is so weird here
1

Hopefully it’s just a mini-series.

FeloniousGrump Mar 31, 2026 +1
Is Amy Addams doing a trans atlantic accent in this?
1

🥱🥱🥱Remake after remake, reboot after reboot!
1
GiltCityUSA Apr 1, 2026 +1
Another reboot/remake that we don't need. Where are all the writers in Hollywood? Where are the original stories? Seriously.
1
naikkeatas Apr 1, 2026 +1
Is this a remake?
1
myotheraccount2023 Apr 1, 2026 +1
Why?
1
DullHornedUnicorn Mar 31, 2026 +3
another remake? at least this is cast well I guess
3
DaKingaDaNorth Mar 31, 2026 +7
The one with Robert Deniro was also a remake, they had members of the original cast making cameos
7
DullHornedUnicorn Mar 31, 2026 +6
yeah, that's why I said "Another", Hollywood has no new ideas so every 20-30 years we get reboots/remakes/new adaptions of the same IP. Word it however you want.
6
mootallica Mar 31, 2026 -1
You guys have no new ideas lol. Go and see some movies.
-1
DullHornedUnicorn Mar 31, 2026 -1
lol, I have no new ideas? said in a thread about IP being "adapted" a 3rd time
-1
mootallica Mar 31, 2026 +3
In which you are likely the thousandth person this week to say "Hollywood has no new ideas", ignoring all the new ideas that drop all year round.
3
DullHornedUnicorn Mar 31, 2026
what new movies/shows do you recommend? edit: listnook in a nutshell, get downvoted for genuine discourse. I see plenty of movies, Bugonia was interesting, Project Hail Mary was good, I really liked Strange Darling from a couple years ago. I see plenty
0
TheEndingWasFine Mar 31, 2026 +2
Hates adaptations, only sees three movies and two are adaptations.
2
DullHornedUnicorn Mar 31, 2026 +2
I don't have problems with adaptations. I have an issue with readaptations for little reason, Cape Fear was done and done extremely well already, don't see the need to have it again. you can adapt from a novel, an unmade screenplay, many other valid reasons for adaptation. And yup, I've only seen 3 movies. You got me
2
mootallica Mar 31, 2026 +2
If you are aware of movies like Bugonia and Strange Darling, there's next to no chance you're not aware of other original movies coming out of Hollywood every single year. Maybe you're just not watching them, which is fine, but you can't then turn around and say Hollywood has no new ideas lmao. Like if that's the case, I get it, because I've struggled to keep up the last few years myself, but that's my problem y'know?
2
HotOne9364 Mar 31, 2026 +4
Not a remake. It's another adaptation of the novel The Executioners.

I don’t understand the remake. DeNiro’s version is still very good and watchable.

There are many 10 episode tv series that should be 2 hour movies, and almost no 2 hour movies that should be 10 episode series. Would love to be pleasantly surprised, and I’m sure the performances will be entertaining, but I’m expecting a lot of unnecessary filler.

Looks pretty good but why did it need to be a series?

Note to stalkers. Don't stalk a family partially composed of a 6ft 4 athletic person

The remake no one asked for.

Looks solid but how can you beat the original? I mean Robert Mitchum and Gregory Peck - we don't have icons like that anymore.

I didn't downvote you but I will say, one thing I like about the Scorsese version is that the family has its own secrets (De Niro plays a psycho, but at least you understand why he's so pissed off at Nolte), so it added a layer of complexity there. Whereas in the Gregory Peck 60s version, the family was very clean cut. That one, it was more like a mountain lion preying on a family of innocent deer and not much more.

John D. MacDonald has so many more novels that would make great movies. I can’t understand why this one gets so much traction.

Cape fear would be a good name for a superhero horror movie

June 5 is kind of the worst possible release date from an Emmys POV, which is odd with this cast. Anyway, they've obviously spent the money, so this could be good. The Bowden wife being in on the transgression against Cady really changes the dynamics but it might be for the best to get a tv series out of the plot.

Remakes are part of the Hollywood system since the beginning. And some people probably said the same thing about the Scorcese remake in the 90s

Reminds me of Perdita Durango where Javier plays a similar character.

I really have no desire to see this. I saw the DeNiro version. I know the story. I'm not watching it again but stretched out over 10 episodes. No thank you.
