Cape Fear is a good story, but it’s weird how many times this has been remade and remade well. This will be the third version (fourth if you count The Simpsons episode).

I’m annoyed that it looks to be another “wacky prison-tat-covered Max Cady.” The Scorsese remake is fun for the cast and over the top performances, but it felt like such a joke to me compared to the original, with Robert Mitchum managing to be incredibly intimidating with a very subdued performance. All of which is to say, it looks like this show is more interested in the remake version.

Yeah Robert Mitchum was perfect for that role, he didn’t need any of the crazy stuff to be sinister

Robert Mitchum just knew how to turn on that intimidation factor. I just rewatched The Friends of Eddie Coyle last night, and the scene where he tells the gun dealer that if he screws him over, he and his friends will find him no matter what because they're good at finding people is so cooly terrifying.

Secondmost sinister Mitchum role, behind The Night of the Hunter.

Seems a little disingenuous to say that based off one trailer. Especially when this is starring Javier Bardem who gives us one of the most intimidating villains in No Country for Old Men. If anything, I think the great casting (and this being a tv series) is all the justification needed for why this is a good idea For as intimidating as Deniro was in the remake (another movie with great casting), the most remembered thing about him in that movie was his crazy accent (which was way more over the top than the tattoos).

Sixth or seventh if you exclude WWE lifting it twice.

I’m sure this will be good, Bardem is awesome in anything he does, but I just don’t want to watch 90 minutes of intense domestic violence/stalking behavior. Enough crazy shit going on in the real world.

Good news, it won't be 90 minutes.  It will be much longer.

I first thought Oh man, another unneeded remake, but when I saw it was Bardem, I immediately got excited for it.

Ahh. Didn’t read the article. Good call out.

No need for a remake of this.

Full agree, plus I was curious and checked its like 10 episodes long. We don’t need a 10 hour version of a 2 hour movie. The original book was only 225 pages. It’s not exactly Lord of the Rings.

That’s crazy! I had no idea I was such a shot book!

Ngl, I'd rather see Bardem play Bowen and Patrick Wilson play Max Cady.

I’ve never been disappointed with Javier Bardem. I’ll watch him play a villain any day of the week.

How does Amy Adams keep getting work?  She's not good.

I thought she was great in Arrival. Admittedly haven’t seen her in much else.

Arrival is a good movie and she was fine.

Bait used to be believable.

exoriparian Apr 1, 2026 -2
Not meant to be bait.  I thought this was a widely held opinion.  I take it you disagree?

Amy Adams is not good - is a widely held opinion? What?

exoriparian Apr 1, 2026 -1
Oh I get it. You're the one doing the bait. Nice try.

You are in minority.

That's probably true with Jared Leto and Rami Malek, too. Doesn't mean they're any good. I just thought this was a pretty cold take.  But I guess not.

Amy is a good actor. Much better than Leto & Malek.
3
exoriparian Apr 1, 2026
She is much better than they are, I fully agree. I was using them as an extreme example. But I bet it's true.

Normal_Buy_93 Apr 1, 2026 +3
Gal Gadot, Sydney Sweeney could be extreme example. Not Leto & Malek.
