With as bad as Republicans are managing the Economy, we'll all be going hungry soon.

Can we just call it "state media" already?
32
broohaha Apr 6, 2026 +10
Didn’t know Byron Allen is considered conservative.
10
Fullertonjr Apr 6, 2026 +40
He isn’t. He is just the next person up who is willing to just stick to the script and just do their job of being a distraction to what is actually occurring in the world and in this country.
40
happyscrappy Apr 6, 2026 +18
He's just a guy who already produces Comics Unleashed, the show that has been a stand in for various late night shows, like Corden's show, etc. He makes mediocre content cheaply. That's why he's been called upon. Selection of him is likely not mostly about politics.
18
therealwillhepburn Apr 7, 2026 +12
He’s getting called upon because he’s paying for the spot.
12
happyscrappy Apr 7, 2026 +6
i.e. the show is being aired similarly to an infomercial. Wonder if there is any ad share (revenue or barter) other than that with the affiliates?
6
Mount_Treverest Apr 6, 2026 +7
He's a billionaire, it's a prerequisite.
7
F-N-M-N Apr 6, 2026 +4
Paper billionaire. And I don’t buy it that anyone would buy his company for $1B+.
4
Mount_Treverest Apr 6, 2026 +1
They're cable channels like BET or the weather channel. I mean not hugely valuable compared to Netflix or something like that but still gets left on certain places. Tubi and stuff like that will buy up the content. Daniel Tosh owned half of MTV for awhile until selling it off to CBS.
1
8JHF8 Apr 6, 2026 +4
He definitely isn't. The issue here is that he is effectively buying the time s***, making much cheaper shows and collecting the ad revenue. CBS profits no matter what he does with the time.

I’m using it for the NFL and nothing else. Wish they didn’t have it but I’m not going to let that network ruin my fun on Sundays during football season.

CBS is dead to me. 60 minutes last night sealed the deal. Franklin Graham is a liar and a hypocrite who will surely burn in hell for his sins.
289
greysweater72 Apr 6, 2026 +59
Graham’s bit was nauseating & just the thought that he was on 60 minutes pissed me off.
59
ACW1129 Apr 6, 2026 +22
What'd he say?
22
DeadPeanutSociety Apr 7, 2026 +14
I can't find anyone talking about what he actually said, but I looked him up and he is billed as "Trump's favorite preacher," so I imagine his record is bigoted in some very unsurprising ways.
14
ACW1129 Apr 7, 2026 +2
Oh, Franklin is definitely not his father.
2
8JHF8 Apr 6, 2026 +2
I'm not watching that garbage, but I know he recently not necessarily on 60 minutes argued against Pope Leo's message of peace. Argued in favor of the concept of "just war". He defended the administration's war prayers for death and told Trump his soul is secure. He accused Iran of wanting to use nuclear weapons when the only people floating those ideas recently are in this administration and an Israeli "news" show that included Ben-Gvir.

It’s truly sad when 60 Minutes used to be such an institution - I was out whenever they aired that stupid Trump interview.
4
majordude174 Apr 7, 2026 +6
Franklin Graham said on twitter that Malaria Trump was the classiest First Lady ever. I was gonna ask him if he preferred her real titties or the fake ones but I deleted my account before I remembered to do it.
6
IMnotMNnice Apr 7, 2026 +6
I know this was a result of auto correct but Malaria Trump is just *chefs kiss*

64
Any_Asparagus8267 Apr 7, 2026 +1
I thought the whole f****** reason for canning Colbert was it was too expensive to produce?
1
SithLordSid Apr 7, 2026 +2
That’s the “excuse” they used but it was never true
2
southendgirl Apr 6, 2026 +51
Didn’t Allen try late night years ago?
51
AuthorityAnarchyYes Apr 6, 2026 +62
And he sucked tremendously. Dude is obviously a genius behind the scenes, as he’s built a production empire. On camera, though, he’s as exciting as a box of grey rocks.
62
es_cl Apr 6, 2026 +16
I remember he had some entertainment show that would air random hours, like those syndicated shows that never make it on top ratings. I thought he was some D-list comedian actor. I got rid of cable in the 2000s, so he was out of mind out of sight for me for many many years.  Then some years ago, I heard the news of him buying the Weather Channel. I’m like, this dude was a business billionaire mogul. WTF?
16
broohaha Apr 6, 2026 +9
I thought the exact same thing! I assumed he was some struggling media personality doing the graveyard shift showing music videos and doing banal interviews at odd hours of the evening. Then fast forward to the Weather Channel news, I decided to read about him on Wikipedia. He’s clearly sharp behind the camera. Just extremely dull in front of one.
9
tacobooc0m Apr 7, 2026 +5
likely in front of the camera to avoid paying talent to do it. Another good business move. he‘s like the Dave Thomas of Late Night
5
Capt-Crap1corn Apr 6, 2026 +2
Dude bought the weather channel
2
CockyBovine Apr 6, 2026 +4
Corniness is not a big impediment to becoming tremendously wealthy.
4
PeopleCallMeSimon Apr 7, 2026 +2
Anyone can be successful if all they have to do is join in on the right wing billionaire class grift by selling their soul.
2
Capt-Crap1corn Apr 6, 2026 +1
Yeah fr. Super wealthy
1
Nice-Block-7266 Apr 7, 2026 +1
Yeah, like they wanted him to be another Arsenio. It was painful to watch.
1
Basic-Record-4750 Apr 7, 2026 +1
I won’t dispute his ability to make money. But I hesitate to call grifters genius. Producing low quality content directed towards people who are easily manipulated is not genius. It’s a fairly common business model, most people would simply rather not be associated with it
1
joshuads Apr 6, 2026 +9
He used to have a show with stand up comics that was basically all set ups to do their written bits.
9
mike10dude Apr 6, 2026 +8
that is the show that he is paying cbs to put on was already doing to do it at 12:35
8
Own-Organization-532 Apr 6, 2026 +6
He has not been relevant on TV since Real People.
6
DizzyLead Apr 6, 2026 +3
He’s also behind what has to be the worst TV game show, “Funny You Should Ask,” which is basically “‘Hollywood Squares’ without the complicated tic-tac-toe stuff,” with D-list celebrity panels (plus Byron, you wouldn’t want to have to pay for another celebrity) and a contestant pool that definitely wasn’t chosen for their smarts.

calling it now, CBS will be the first of the three networks to cease producing a late night talk show entirely.

If you think Comics Unleashed is late night talk show... Buddy I have some bad news for you. I swear ever episode I have accidentally seen I thought it was made in the 90s.. I had to look it up a while ago and see if they are actually making new shows. To my shock, they are new shows.
72
DGCA3 Apr 6, 2026 +28
That's the Byron Allen trademark. He's known for the quantity of his productions, not the quality of them.
28
Horror_Neighborhood9 Apr 6, 2026 +10
Yep. And go look at his “standup” sets on Carson. Wallpaper is more conversant and funny, FFS.

23
happyscrappy Apr 6, 2026 +16
That's what this announcement is. CBS will not produce a late night talk show. They are selling the time s*** to Byron Allen. He will aire the content he produces in that s***. The content he already aires in many markets *after* the late night shows.
16
kevint1964 Apr 7, 2026 +3
Following "Comics Unleashed", stay tuned for the equally unfunny "Funny You Should Ask". Allen is involved with that c*** game show, too.

That’s exactly the argument they made for cancelling Colbert, so you haven’t exactly happened upon a revelation here.
2
oasisvomit Apr 6, 2026 +1
I could easily see it being ABC. Disney owns very few stations, and they could push everything to D+ and ESPN to make more money.
1
normankrasnerkc Apr 7, 2026 +1
they are, Bryon Allen is buying time on cBS
1
factoid_ Apr 7, 2026 +1
They’ll be the first broadcast network to shut down entirely.  I’m praying Netflix buys the rights to AFC football because that’s all that’s propping cbs up today
1

I think they just did. It’s a fiscally based decision.

This show is so ridiculously unfunny lol.
8

Tell me they're not giving Allen the Ed Sullivan theater? Although I suppose that's better than converting it into a Turning Point USA church or something.
6
Electronic-Minute007 Apr 10, 2026 +2
They aren’t, thankfully. CBS hasn’t announced their plans, but a few Broadway producers have expressed interest in buying it.

F*** Byron Allen. F*** Barium Weiss. F*** CBS.
4
heavyfuture121 Apr 7, 2026 +4
I've done some paid audience work for Comics Unleashed, and it's some of the most staged, unfunny conversations I've ever heard. I think I've only recognized two comics out of the many times I've been there.
4
kevint1964 Apr 7, 2026 +4
There's no natural conversation flow at all.
4
Moviegal19 Apr 7, 2026 +1
Well yeah, Byron has to set them up to do their set. They’re stand-up comedians who aren’t used to doing their comedy in a conversational way. Maybe that’s why it seems unnatural.
1
getridofwires Apr 6, 2026 +3

I could not give one little f*ck. I will never watch CBS again #BoycottCBS
3
Arizona_Pete Apr 7, 2026 +3
Byron Allen is so damn weird to me - His whole empire was built on going to press gaggles and acting like he knew celebs. He then spun that into an empire. He has zero charism. No charm. No warmth, empathy, humor, or recognizable human emotion. But, I'll be damned if that b****** isn't driven as hell. I will be sure to avoid anything he produces like the plague it is.
3
luckymountain Apr 6, 2026 +2
He’s never been funny. Or really famous, for that matter. I stopped watching a CBS a year ago.
2

CBS is dead to me.
2

Late night on CBS will be interesting. I'll predict that the ratings will be freaking hilarious.
2
sebastianqu Apr 7, 2026 +1
Late night television was already on the way out, Trump or no Trump. People just don't watch it like they used to. CBS is going from an expensive, unprofitable show they produce to a 3rd party paying for the s***. Even if ratings crater, it won't matter because its within their expectations anyway.
1
normankrasnerkc Apr 7, 2026 +2
It might have gone away years ago without Trump
2

2

4

9
Nerdlinger Apr 6, 2026 +10
Real People remember Byron.
10
happyscrappy Apr 6, 2026 +2
Seriously. It's crazy to see him still around given that was, what, 1977?
2
monoglot Apr 6, 2026 +4
He was a co-host of a TV show called Real People that started in 1979. He's been around since then and occasionally hosted some shows (including late night stuff) but he got incredibly rich as a TV producer with very favorable production deals. Like, he's probably a billionaire.
4
Jean_Claude_Seagal Apr 6, 2026 +1
Comics Unleashed is getting the time s***, or is it a whole new show he’s getting?
1
spacemanspiff1979 Apr 6, 2026 +1

1
bettinafairchild Apr 6, 2026 +1

Ironic there, since Bryon Allen was on its similarly styled show "Real People".
1
SwoopsRevenge Apr 6, 2026 +1
This was the slop they’d put on after Showtime at the Apollo. I always thought this show sucked. I can’t believe it’s still on.
1
sc212 Apr 6, 2026 +1
He’s so painfully unfunny.
1
happyscrappy Apr 6, 2026 +1
This seemed inevitable. This kind of cheaper content is exactly what CBS would cancel the most watched late night show for. It won't get higher ratings, but it will be cheaper to produce. Free or negative cost to CBS in this case. Late night just isn't what it once was.
1
angrybox1842 Apr 6, 2026 +1

Comics Unleashed is one of the dumbest shows on tv. It’s garbage.
1

"Exits"? Could they not fit "gets thrown out the window"?
1
Cecil_McCrackshell Apr 7, 2026 +1
The last time I saw Byron Allen regularly on,TeeVee was on "Real People", then after that nothing for over a decade until I learned he was an infomercial centa-millionaire, but only sparingly. If he's so rich, why would bother "leasing" an abandoned media time s***, temporarily, unless he was just using ot to plug his infomercials?
1
NachoPichu Apr 7, 2026 +1
Norm Macdonald called the show "comics on a tight chain."
1
ericsmallman3 Apr 7, 2026 +1
They should do what they did in the early 90s and re-run s*** Canadian crime shows.
1
billyrubin7765 Apr 8, 2026 +1
This is so hilarious. It is funnier that Comedians Unleashed ever was or will be. It is a good thing that all the stations have been bought up by companies determined to drive them into the ground.
