Chi McBride

Posted by Happyplace_s

I’m rewatching Boston public (don’t judge) and Chi McBride is so good in this. How did he not blow up as an actor?

After watching Pushing Daisies, I asked the same question. Charismatic and funny.

He was amazing in Pushing Daisies too! I think he just got typecast as the "tough authority figure" after Boston Public and never really got chance to show his range. Plus timing is everything in Hollywood and maybe his peak years just didn't align with right projects

smh for real he had so much talent but kinda fell off the radar, weird times

"Oh heeeell no!" I like the whole PD cast a lot

He has 81 acting credits. He probably just wants to be a character actor. Not everyone wants to be a superstar.

Why would you be judged for watching Boston Public?

abra_stone Apr 3, 2026 +11
Right? I loved that show.

Happyplace_s Apr 3, 2026 +4
Ha! Well I haven’t heard of anyone talking about that show and it’s a bit of a soap opera. But I do secretly love it.

It’s an excellent quality show, nobody talks about it because the distributor (Fox, now Disney) chose to let it disappear off the face of the earth. In fact, the same can be said for anything from David E. Kelley.

I was legit shocked to find Picket Fences and The Practice on Hulu.

I had forgotten about the show myself. I was watching Boston legal (David e. Kelley) and one of the judges reminded me of someone. I looked him up and realized he was the vice on Boston Public which I had last watched 20 years ago. Both shows have a lot to offer for what it is worth.

He worked STEADILY after Boston Public, so I think people very much WERE paying attention.

He was the best part of Waiting

Mitch, I want you to do a couple things for me. First, I want you to observe very closely your surroundings, today. Take everything in. Leave no stone unturned. Can you do that for me? Then, I want you to think about what your life would be like, if you had been born blind.

That’s the movie I was thinking of!

Anyone who can make a line like "Create your own p**** showing game." sound profound, has my respect.

How are you watching it? It isn’t streaming anywhere and to my knowledge has no dvd release.

Yo ho ho.

do you really not know you can go to many websites and just watch any TV show or move instantly without paying?

I don't? Can you share?

Maybe he didn’t want those kinds of roles and preferred steady support work. 10 years of Hawaii Five 0 pay plus residuals since it’s in syndication, not bad.

He's great in Undercover Brother. The whole movie is pretty great too.

Him and Dave Chappelle stole it for me

He’s one of those “oh hey, that guy!” actors. Not huge-name famous, but always solid. If you haven’t already, check him out in Pushing Daisies or Human Target.

I know he had roles, but I feel like he should’ve been a leading man…he is so good.

You don’t remember the early 00s when Chi McBride was in every movie? I Robot, Gone in 60 seconds, and Cradle to the Grave just off the top of my head.

Loved him in The Frighteners with Michael J. Fox

Where the f*** have you found Boston Public streaming?!?!
2
Malnurtured_Snay Apr 3, 2026 +1
Like back in the day I would often go to the website tvshowsondvd.com to see if a box set had been announced

SineQuaNon001 Apr 3, 2026 +1
And it never came 😞
1
Malnurtured_Snay Apr 3, 2026 +1
And OP won't even say where s/he is streaming the damn thing! (I mean ... pirating, probably).

name-classified Apr 3, 2026 +2
He was in lots of movies.

All_Lightning879 Apr 3, 2026 +1
Paid in Full, Undercover Brother, Roll Bounce, Hawaii Five-O. So, he’s been around the block even if he’s not “superstar” status.

eggflip1020 Apr 3, 2026 +1
This reminds me. Is anyone keeping an eye on Chi McBride and Keith David this year?

trojanusc Apr 3, 2026 +1
1) where are you watching this? 2) I still laugh at the large black woman showing up and telling everyone “smell that shoe!!”
1
DamiNThorne Apr 3, 2026 +1
He did the voice of Nick Fury in a lot of Marvel cartoons.
1
bbmarvelluv Apr 3, 2026 +1
I worked on his paramount + show about a bowling alley lol (it did not last). So it just sounds like he’s just picky with projects Edit : also you can tell he did not want to be there lol

LAtvGUY Apr 3, 2026 +1
I loved that show. I remember being impressed by Anthony Heald as the Vice Principal (I think). Loved him in Silence of the Lambs as well.

AlsoIHaveAGroupon Apr 3, 2026 +1
He was great on the John Larroquette Show in 1993. and he's been working steadily ever since.
