China aims to show global leadership with Iran war diplomacy. US appears uninterested
China is stepping up its diplomacy as the Iran war drags on. It has put forward a five-point proposal with Pakistan and is rallying support for the plan from Gulf countries and Western governments.

Dear China, Offer Trump a “Participation Trophy of Peace” for starting a war and end this war no one asked for. This man has only two obsessions, Raping kids/Hiding Epstein Files and Peace Prizes. Simple.

China is not going to save Iran; it is more than happy with the current situation.

Why? Other comments claim the exact opposite?

China benefits from high oil prices; it is the largest producer of solar panels, wind turbines, electric vehicles, and batteries. China also hates Muslims; destroying Iran would significantly weaken Islamic extremism worldwide. The US would also become weaker, making it easier to invade Taiwan. The US would also lose its reputation and its relations with the EU would deteriorate, which would also benefit China.

Nailed alot of it. Although, China has made insane money because of the US led order…. Freedom of navigation… and dare I say it “ capitalism”. They absolutely do not want chaos, to be responsible for keeping maritime shipping lanes open, or to have to deal with political issues of the world. They certainly do not want more of the world’s influence within China ( unless it is IP’s they can “ co-opt”….).

China helped North Korea create the blueprint for Irans ambitions. North Korea built a ton of missiles threatening Seoul and use that deterance to develop nukes.  Iran decided that was the example they wanted to follow. North Korea didn't fund terrorism or mess with neighbors and its threats to Seoul were scarier. Iran didn't and to an extent couldn't replicate the North Korea strategy and now is getting bombed.

It’s strange. China is a communist dictatorship with no freedom of speech, very limited civic rights and freedom, suppression of religion, LGBQT and minorities and even something very close to concentration camps. And they still come off as more cooperative, friendly and peaceful than the current US and its insane authoritarian regime!!

I think humans are very used to focussing on change. China is a brutal dictatorship, but it has been for a long time. "China continues being what it is" = a boring story. Doesn't grab our attention. That US voters actively chose, in 3 recent elections (2016, 2022 & 2024), to try and end their democracy and install a brutal authoritarian regime is causing a change in the US. So our eyes and attention are very much drawn there.

Then you actually go to china and realize while it has an authoritarian government the level of suppression is way overstated in western media. Plenty of openly gay folks in Chengdu holding hands, hui Muslims practicing their religion in mosques etc. old ayis protesting outside municipal offices etc

No, I have no illusions about the chinese society. All the problems I mentioned aside, China have moved more people out of abject poverty the last 50 years than any other place on earth.
12
Astarkos 5 days ago -10
50 years ago is when they began market reforms. Their improvement is much less impressive when you look back further and discover how they first became one of the poorest nations on earth.

The fact that they “come off” that way says more about the people who are under that impression than anything. 50% of people under 50 using a Chinese spy app as their main source of news might have something to do with it.

Which app are you referring you? TikTok is an American company now.
-6
ungovernable 5 days ago -2
That’s only partially true (at least 40% of the U.S. subsidiary of TikTok is owned by foreign entities, including ByteDance), and even then, has only been the case for about two months. Five years of brainrot doesn’t instantly evaporate with a change in ownership structure. I also doubt how arms-length this new subsidiary truly is when the ByteDance CEO is on its board of directors.

You do know that China actively is cleansing its ethnic minorities and harasses their neighbours in the pacific. Just because the news doesn’t get mentioned over and over again doesn’t mean one is better than the other. Despite the flaws in America right now, it is miles ahead of China in many aspects. You literally could not be having this conversation the other way around in China, before the government literally knocked on your door.
1
Tuxhorn 5 days ago +1
As selfish as it is, China isn't threatening anyone outside their local area, so people don't really care as much. This is a lot more palatable to people in the west. Also, "harasses their neighbours in the pacific" is incredibly tame compared to what the US has done in south america and the middle east for the last 40 years.

Because of the ongoing establishment of the Five Nations Railway Corridor. The first direct freight train from China arrived in Iran (Aprin dry port) on May 25, 2025, establishing a ~10,400 km, 14–15 day trade route. This rail based land route evades the western ocean based trade sanctions. China doesn’t want to lose what they’ve only just started, and the US has a problem with that.

Same sex marriage is illegal in China and homosexuality was considered a mental illness up until 20 years ago there.
7
Aggravating-Coast335 5 days ago
It's not illegal. You can Google their most famous gay city, Chengdu. The Chinese government's attitude toward LGBT is that it is neither illegal nor encouraged. The government won't arrest you for being gay, but they won't issue marriage licenses for gay couples either.

China is planning to invade Taiwan. They have publicly threatened to do so many times. They're also still illegally occupying Tibet. They're also still violating the sovereignty of countries in the South China Sea. The CCP has no right to lecture anyone about diplomacy.

The US is actively murdering Iranian civilians and has been doing so in many countries for the past 70 years, and you're mad at China for 'planning' to invade Taiwan... Look at actions and history, not words from the US.

Quite the contrary. China is a trusted entity. You may not agree with the way they govern but as a global trade partner they are actively out there building relationships rather than shitting all over them. What we did to that Iranian ship is exactly how the whole workd sees us now.

No-Limits partners. Also despots in Iran and North Korea have long been under their protection and are the largest backers in this campaign against Ukraine. Drones, artillery and much needed manpower. If not an anti-west alliance, what defines "No limits partners" as they seem to simultaneously encourage it, and want their hands wiped clean to resume talks.
8
Tinelytolmit 5 days ago +6
China is indeed one of Ukraine's biggest backers seeing as how 97% of Ukraine's drone are supplied by China. Also, time to stop lying about China sending manpower to Russia. You constantly repeat this no limits partner yet you never define what that entails.
6
Jubjars 4 days ago +1
Maybe because China never detailed what entails. You're right China never supplied manpower. I think they want to tap out of their dangerous bet and resume business. They didn't grasp the cascading sequence of unforseen consequences, especially with Trump back.

The US started a whole giant unpopular war with one of Russians biggest military suppliers in the Ukraine conflict.
0
truttatrotta 5 days ago -3
Iran wasn’t a Russian ally and isn’t a military supplier. Russia has been manufacturing and improving the drones in Russia for a long while now.
-3

I’d start manufacturing my own too if my supplier was threatened. Maybe get some designs from my good friends that I used.
0

I’m glad you’ve learnt that Iran wasn’t a Russian ally or supplier today.
0
Topsyye 5 days ago +1
Yeah I wouldn’t think they would be considering they are involved in massive war. In the past, they were verifiably a supplier against Ukraine before us intervention. You are either being intentionally obtuse or willfully ignorant.
