A garbage vehicle on land. A garbage vehicle on water. But perfect for amphibious assault. Can't imagine why China would be building these.

One would have to wonder what they are for?

We used to use them in the UK for transporting cars and tourists over to France. Probably the same thing.

I wonder how hovercraft handles waves. We had some big waves going to Calais.

Obviously, as they have yet to build a Chunnel to Taiwan, and this are a decent corollary!

Offloading troops and vehicles in less defended coastal locations due to them being impassible with normal ships. China has built much larger and more capable purpose built ships but they need to land in locations that will be heavily guarded and those setups will take hours to unload not minutes like these ones. >China has developed and tested new "Shuiqiao" landing barges—specialized, jack-up, mobile pier ships—designed for rapid, D-Day-style amphibious logistics, particularly for potential Taiwan scenarios. Spotted in 2025, these vessels create a kilometer-long, stabilized pier to move troops and heavy equipment directly to shore, enabling port-free logistical support.

You really want to try and have 200 of these craft sail 180km against modern technology to try and drop off 100,000 soldiers who are going to be sitting ducks in them while they transit? Good luck with that one.

Not just against modern technology. Against a country that had decades to prepare.

I could have decades to prepare against an elephant I'm not sure it would help a lot, the difference in military strength is too important. It's like Ukraine against Russian but Ukraine would have 10x less soldiers.
