Cool. Cool cool cool. We're in land grab mode. Grab what you can until somebody stops you.

Yep, and this was completely predictable and exactly why so many people were so vehemently against Trump's/the US's recent-ish actions. Putin/Russia started it, Trump/the US told the rest of the world that it's okay as long as you are stronger than everyone else, so now everyone with a big enough stick is going to do the same. Thanks!

I don't know what world you are living in but it's pretty clear that Israel is the one invading and taking land from them.

Tell me you know absolutely nothing about this conflict without telling me you know absolutely nothing about this conflict lmao. Like I said go and read some history books. This genocide didn't start with Oct 7th, it's been ongoing for decades.

What, specifically, happened that prompted them into that action?
I'll give you a hint, the Strait was open before the war started

He was pointing out your stupid statement of "Iran is land grabbing a waterway" as some sort of justification for this war when any and all actions in the straight this year are a direct result of the United States of Israels Wallet attacking Iran and its infrastructure.
The closest thing Iran has done to claim sovereignty over the strait was extending their territorial waters by 12 nautical miles. That happened 60 years ago! In response, Oman also extended their territorial waters. So, why haven't we bombed Oman for "wanting to control" the strait yet?
Something tells me February 28th wasn't about the strait...
We just did the same thing in Venezuela! Only this time we had no friends to step into the role of supreme leader so its just another dude who hates the US because we do shit like this all over the world. Now, apparently in the name of christian nationalism according to pentagon pete.
All the president had to do was leave Obamas deal alone instead of tearing it up to renegotiate the exact same terms with a different label on it, but I understand that nuance is lost on people like you.
As u/totheendofsin said, the strait was open. What happened on February 28th that made Iran close it? Also, where was this same energy when it was made public that Saudi Arabia bankrolled and manned 9/11? Or is that cool now because they spend money with us?

Yes, just like the US claims the waters for 12 (24) miles off of our coast Iran can do the exact same thing. The strait is 24 miles wide. See how that works.
US territorial sovereignty extends 12 nautical miles (approx. 13.8 miles) from the coastline. Beyond this, the U.S. maintains a 24-nautical-mile contiguous zone for law enforcement and a 200-nautical-mile Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) for resource management. State-specific jurisdiction is usually 3 nautical miles, though it is 9 miles for Texas and Florida's Gulf Coast.

Well they are certainly open to try to regulate it. But that's a bit tricky without a navy, no?
If Iran really wants to shut down international trade through it, they can't have it both ways; they are cutting off their nose to spite their face. I imagine from now on, anytime they threaten to shut the strait down, the go-to strategy will be to just interdict their oil exports.

Because they fall under the 'everyone with a big enough stick' part, and I was referring to pretty much everything the US did in the last several months, not just what is going on in Iran and the Strait pf Hormuz. Venezuela, Cuba, threats towards Mexico, Canada and Greenland, et cetera et cetera.

2015 China: “shelve disputes and jointly develop”
2019 China: got caught creating artificial islands to claim territory and putting missile launchers on them
If you look at what China actually does and compare it to what it said, you will realize how much of a snake it is, full of deceptions. China peaceful rise your ass.

The issue is China was a late party in this island building game as others were more aggressive before hand, even Taiwan, China is just the most dominant. The problem is all the parties are trying to control if for some stupid reason and the region needs to be turned into a free navigation zone and a deal needs to be made on exploitation of resources in the area, aka royalties etc. The attempts from annexation by all parties is not conductive and is causing alot of this mess, and China gets to point fingers. China works on tit for tat approach and usually is very reactionary.
We definitely can't allow one country to monopolize the region but if a share ownership is applied then maybe less controversial.

Add to that ramming and dumping poison, swarming vessels, lasers, seizing supplies, damaging equipment.
All in Filipino waters.

It's international waters, not Filipino waters. Filipino waters do not extend 100 miles from their coast.
Also, Taiwan claims this as their waters.

Because the other countries didn't shelve disputes and started building military bases on them so they said they can do it bigger.

China isn't going to sit back and let the US militarize its allies in South East Asia. China presented Obama an agreement for peaceful development and co-existence back in 2010s. Obama rejected it.
1
DaySecure76424 days ago

It has nothing to do with the US. Simply how China treats its own neighbors, in his own backyards and does China honor its words. Those sorts of tricks and deceptions are the reasons why people are worried about what happens when China becomes no.1. China is not even there yet and is already showing some very alarming behaviors.

Who are chinas allies in south east Asia?
2
Hikarilo3 days ago

China does not have allies, as they are against millitary blocs. If you look at a map of US bases near China, you will see why China needs to be assertive on the SCS. The US or any other country would do the same thing if they were in China's position.
-3
anonking11813 days ago

Yes the geography isn’t favorable for China in the SCS. Also doesn’t give them the right to operate in other countries EEZ. And it’s not just US aligned countries that have a problem with it. Ex Vietnam, etc.

What China did is nothing compared to US. As long as US try to block China by using its vassals - Japan, Taiwan, & Philippine - China is going to amplify its South China Sea military defenses.
-5
DaySecure76424 days ago
How does the US block China there? These countries are just trying to claim their EEZs as allowed by the international laws. Then China tries to claim everything all the way next to the coast lines of other countries, citing historical maps of hand picked periods. By the same logic, Tibet can also pick the convenient time to claim its own land back, and Taiwan can also claim all of China before the Chinese civil war. The ways the CCP claims make no consistent logic and are just land grabs.
