>The 10 measures, unveiled by the official Xinhua news agency, "explore" the establishment of a regular communication mechanism between the KMT and China's Communist Party, the full resumption of flights between the two sides and permission for individuals from Shanghai and Fujian province to visit Taiwan. A mechanism will be established to ease inspection standards for food and fishery products, but that has to be on the political foundation of "opposing Taiwan independence," Xinhua said. Taiwanese TV dramas, documentaries and animation will be allowed to be shown as long as they have "correct orientation, healthy content, and high production quality," it added. Except maybe the first one, this is so little they might as well add a 100 bucks ~~amazon~~ aliexpress gift card with 1 month expiration date.

All that for a pretty big demand \>political foundation of "opposing Taiwan independence," Xinhua said. Plus taiwanese shows can only be released as long as they have the "correct orientation" so basically ccp censorship

To be fair that’s all Hollywood and any foreign films shown in China

Prerequisite: accept One China principle

They do accept it, just as The Republic of China.

It’s cuz the current president is pro independence. As long as we don’t provoke them they won’t harm us

Wow, China gets to exert more influence over Taiwanese media, any potential spies will have an easier time reaching and integrating into their society, and they get baked-in opposition to Taiwanese independence at a domestic level! What a deal! You'd have to be insane or a China apologist to agree to this lol. It's just paving an even easier path to disrupt their government in the future.

Taiwan will never get independence not while China is still a powerhouse country in the world. Taiwan is basically a chess piece for the us if they ever want to start ww3

Taiwan is already very independent, if you didn't know. They don't need to 'get' it, they already earned it in the Chinese Civil War. China and it's cronies doesn't accept that, but they operate as an independent nation and are treated by the world as such in all but title nonetheless.

Yes I know I live here. My point is we will never declare our independence unless the whole world or at least 3 big countries are willing to fight China for it which won’t happen under any circumstances

Why would you need to declare independence when you were already an independant state before the war? A new declaration would just be a risky political move when the country already operates as a direct successor to Republican China

Cuz the two main political parties in Taiwan are dpp and kmt. Dpp was funded under the premise that one day Taiwan would declare its independence and fast forward to now the dpp fan base all expect this to happen. We are still tied with china like Germany before the wall came down

overandoverandagain 21 hr ago
>fast forward to now the dpp fan base all expect this to happen That's fine, and your politicians use that to curry favor, but it's unlikely to happen in the near future . The benefits just aren't there. I guess I should just ask you at this point, do you believe Taiwan can stay independent longterm? How long do you see the current paradigm existing before China bears in?

I think yes it’s really a complicated question but i have hope. As long as Taiwan can build good relationships with big countries and further develop its chip industry and use it as a way to have a stand in the world we can be independent long term. With how fast China is growing over the years and with USA currently under the rule of a dumbass we won’t see them invading Taiwan anytime soon. Unification is important to them but right now they are in a good spot to show the democratic world the power of ccp (which I think should be stopped at one point) cuz if us falls out of the no1 spot to China we might have big problems. They will prob slowly use other means like media or slowly buying out government officials as a way to unify Taiwan like how they did with Hong Kong.

Appreciate your take man. >They will prob slowly use other means like media or slowly buying out government officials as a way to unify Taiwan like how they did with Hong Kong. Just to fully circle around, I agree completely. Hong Kong was a great testing ground for the same mechanisms they're going to put into use towards y'all. Thats why this deal is a very poor idea, it plays right into their hands and weakens a free Taiwan in very subtle ways.

They don't need Taiwan, simply blockading the straits for a few months will to do it.

“China on Sunday unveiled 10 new incentive measures for Taiwan, including easing tourist curbs, allowing in "healthy" television dramas and facilitating food sales” In other words: they’re offering to ease restrictions on Taiwanese citizens, entertainment, and agricultural exports.

Classic toxic ex behavior. Spending the whole week threatening you and then suddenly showing up with gifts.

This whole thing is so weird. It’s like if the democrat presidential nominee went and met with Mark Carney and then Canada made a bunch of promises for relations between Canada and the democrats. Weird and out of line

Mind u she’s not a presidential nominee

Why is the unelected KMT negotiating with the PRC on Taiwan’s behalf? Surely if not treason there is some law against this?

It's an offer, not a treaty. Nothing is binding.

If the people of Taiwan don't want to be part of China then China can get effed

NoI wonder if even the PRC side here literally saying it's in their gift to resume independent travel, at least authorising mainlanders to exit on planes to Taiwan, will be enough to convince people on 小红书 that it always was the PRC side that suspended individual travel to Taiwan in the first place. They regularly post "oh when will we be able to visit Taiwan again" then insist it was Taiwan that shut them out rather than PRC shutting them in.

Only a matter of time before they invade. Guess we’re still waitin’ on the world to change.

Nah they won’t. Unless trump pulls some stupid shit again and lai (the current president of Taiwan) is stupid enough to declare independence. Which do u think is more important to China? Unification and like Russia tank their gdp to oblivion or showing the power of the ccp over democratic nations? China is on track to number 1 powerhouse in the world and with trump being an idiot it only accelerated this process
