You are correct that Abbot doesn't run, but the "to cancun" part means they were talking about Cruz. During snowmegedon, when most of the state lost power, he was caught in the gate for a flight to cancel with his family. Thankfully it was spread quickly enough thatbhe had to suffer with us.

When do they get charges too??  >Last year, an NBC News investigation foundthat leaders in the **Assemblies of God, the world’s largest Pentecostal denomination, were warned again and again** about Savala’s history but failed to cut off his access to students in Texas — **even after a 2012 child sex abuse conviction** in Alaska. It’s a grooming, indoctrination and pedo factory all wrapped into one. Religion is almost entirely based on where you were born. A kid in Alabama and a kid in Tehran are both completely convinced they have the right one, and neither of them chose it. The church gets to you before you can think critically, and by the time you can, you’re already in too deep emotionally to question it. And the whole time they’ve got their hand in your pocket, using guilt and the threat of eternal suffering to make sure it stays there. Anyone with even a tiny amount of critical thinking can zoom out and see that we’re talking about two trillion galaxies and an unfathomable number of planets, and it is statistically impossible for this to be the only one with intelligent life. Which means these religions aren’t just wrong, they’re comically, embarrassingly wrong.

My wife has a friend who is super catholic, I’ve never liked this person. The last time we went home to visit I dropped my wife off at a coffee shop so the two could catch up and I bummed around by myself for a while. I got back to pick up my wife and they were still chatting, so I sat at a table behind them. This was right after the Olympics thing with the last supper deal, I don’t know, I don’t watch the Olympics. But I overheard this grown woman say she told her 6 year old daughter that “they need to pray about this, this is just wrong and some people don’t deserve to be seen” or something along those lines. Then went on to say she only reads her stories from the bible, only lets her watch religious type shows, because “she’s my kid, I can brainwash her if I want”. Like what the f***

The thing about life being out there, besides us, is it's out there and never will we meet. The cosmos is just too large. So we are effectively alone. And that's the most important thing that religions have. There's a tribe to not be alone and that's the real deal sealer.
7
unholyswordsman 3 days ago +10
But that's the thing they fail to realize. We all belong to the same tribe of humanity. Our greatest strength is our ability to come together but there are people who don't want that.

>Church leaders had a clear opportunity to intervene in 2012, when Savala was charged in Alaska with sexually abusing boys during his time as a youth minister in the 1990s. Instead, Chi Alpha leaders in Texas rallied to his defense, paying his bond and hiring a lawyer for him. After he pleaded guilty and served a short jail sentence, the pastors allowed him to resume mentoring students. Everything you need to know about organized religion in one paragraph.
34
galaapplehound 3 days ago +8
THIS; this is the thing that pisses me off more than anything else. He did this shit before and instead of telling him to f*** off forever they let him go back to doing the same shit he used to abuse people before. Until religions are held to account for allowing KNOWN predators to still have access to children and young adults religion should be universally despised. Believe in Jesus or whatever, but kick every ministry in the d*** and go worship him in private. I think he said that himself or something.

I mean: Matthew 6:5-8 (KJV for all those crazies) 5 And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. 6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly. 7 But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking. 8 Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.

According to Christian beliefs he can ask for forgiveness and will go to the exact same heaven as the kids he abused. Just like at the serial killers, rapist, and child molesters who believe Jesus was the son of God and died for their sins. You can hate what I said all you want but that is one of the core dogma of that religion.

If you want to acknowledge that the base of religion was created to get people to behave a certain way then saying there's no chance of redemption gives no incentive to behave that way.

Actually, the fun part is the kids could well be suffering torments worse than you can possible imagine for all time, depending on the creed and their actions in life. So he can go "oops my bad" and get a free ride to paradise and some of the little 'uns he diddled could be being tortured forever and ever. Isn't god great? I mean I guess it's not that fun.
15
Spire_Citron 3 days ago +8
Unless those kids don't die Christians, in which case it's straight to hell for them. Or at least that's what some people believe. To me, the idea of forgiveness for those who have truly changed is easier to stomach than that part of the philosophy.

Everybody is talking about how the church leaders failed to kick him out, but what the hell is wrong with our justice system!?! The man pled guilty to multiple sexual assault charges in Alaska in 2012 and somehow only served a short sentence! It's the same thing that happened with Epstien. We caught the f*****, gave him a slap on the wrist and then released him back out into the wild to keep molesting kids. At the very least, if they were going to release him from jail, he should of had to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life and been banned from working with children. With check ins to make sure he wasn't working with kids. Then if you find he is, straight back to prison.

Only God decides who is holy. The moment a human does, God is usually no longer in the picture.

Does it ever end, time after disgusting time the same stories. Maybe Churches should make a rule religious leaders cannot ever be alone with boys under 17.

Another Christian pastor caught abusing people? Maybe we ought to outlaw Christianity… seems like they just keep doing it with no regard for the law in any country. And you know, have a bonus side perfecting deporting all of those MAGA idiots to some 3rd world country so they can live out their authoritarian dreams somewhere else.

You know, it's never the "drag queens" (sic) it's always the ones holding the signs telling you that trans people are pedos. How interesting. Almost like there is a pattern there.

I just don't understand situations like this, full stop, period. This man wasn't a ranking elder in the church, he wasn't bringing in tons of money, he's not the child of some well-known person, or famous in his own right. Why the f*** do churches keep protecting people like this? I literally do not get it. "They rushed to his aid", they "bankrolled his attorney fees". It literally makes no sense. From the video, it's not even like he's a youth pastor or something...he just seems like a church member that they keep feeding children to...for no damn reason. Make it make sense.
