Shame. Remember, they need to feel shame. We need to make sure they know that their choices caused real destruction to their communities, that their economic peril is entirely created by the systems they voted to put in place or keep in place, that the men they decided to follow are the reason for their relationship woes, that they voted to make their own lives considerably worse to protect pedophiles and start a war unprompted. They will respond saying we're 'just as bad'. Don't engage in argument. Simply tell them that you make the choice to try and be better, and you expect them to do better as well by changing their habit of self-destruction. It's about shame. Exclude them from discussions of politics entirely, and tell them that the choices they made make them unserious and unimportant to add as a perspective to add to the table. It's about shame. Refuse to engage with their own politics, refuse to argue on grounds that their opinion doesn't matter because it's not their own belief. It's about shame. Provide them little to no trust in the workforce and in polite society-, with the context that they have proven they will make unsound decisions for the approval of others. It's about shame. They need to know that they are valuable only for the qualities they have that are completely detached from their politics, and that the qualities in themselves we do not value can only become valuable through a real, internal change in political mindset. We cannot simply arrest every maga voter. We will never be able to stomp out the flame. But we can make all other ideas more socially valuable than the ones they currently have, and that may make many choose to stay quiet on their beliefs or begin following the politics that are more valuable to them. That said, as for the system which created the puppeteered masses of MAGA, we need to stomp that thing out yesterday. Republican media control needs to be eliminated, the billionaires need to be held accountable for their actions and systems put in place to keep them so, the economy needs a robust government system, not defined by politics but by mathematics, to ensure external costs are accounted for and monopolies cannot be sustained. The tax structure needs to be cleaned up and future-proofed specifically to reduce and maintain a low centralization of wealth, not just to raise money. Corporations need penalties that are harshly enforced and actually proportional to the size and damage of infractions. Voting rights must be expanded and insured, police need to be held accountable for crimes, corporate lobbies and foreign lobbies better defined and better prosecuted, insider trading needs to be punishable by laws with real consequences and to all classes, not just the lower class, and both the congressional and presidential powers need to be better defined as well as more balanced. No filibuster, no endless wars, no blanket tariffs. Shame is the first step. Reconstruction, the second. We need to make sure what happened will be completely unfeasible to happen again as far into the future as we possibly can.

As your neighbours we have seen you fail to deal with this shit for too long and then watched the poison spill across the border into our homes and communities. Don’t get me wrong, nothing would make me happier but your Democratic Party is not doing a lot to instil confidence that they understand the severity of the problem. They seem to think that they can middle ground everything which is only going to make the problem worse when people lose hope and accept many of these horrific realities as the only way things can be.

As a home grown this feels like a long tail continuation of the Civil War fallout. No legal action after J6 of 2021 smells like the end of reconstruction in 1876. Lack of political will to do hard and necessary things. After watching the Ken Burns documentary and seeing how much 🐂💩 we recycle. It's hard not to be cynical.

Because Biden was just a continuation of the ideas and policies that gave us Trump in the first place. If we want to avoid Trump or his successor we need to abandon the ideas that Biden, Harris, Schumer, Jefferies, Clinton et. al represent and move on to something radically different. Because as much as we don't like to admit it, Trump being elected is not only a logical but rational conclusion to the state of American society - healthy, functional societies that people are happy with don't elect people like Trump. Would Harris have been better than Trump? Yes, but she still would've only delayed the problem. Will Newsome or Buttieg be better than whatever trash the GOP puts forward? Yes, but they still would only let the rot continue to fester and grow so that the next dictator that comes in has even more support. We need AOCs, Mamdanis, Sanders, Prtizkers etc. The kind of people willing to try to do significant and/or radical things in order to prevent the next Trump.

There are policy “wins” and then there is systemic reform. Without systemic reforms what happens to any policy wins after your time in power is up? They just get rolled back (Roe, health care subsidies, etc). Democrats need to get just as passionate about actual systemic reform (SCOTUS expansion, DC and PR statehood, RCV, Tax reform) as they do about defunding ICE or Israel. More Dems need to see the big picture and focus on the unsexy, process shit that the GOP/Corporate Dems have continued to run circles around the progressives on.

I f****** hate that I was right in my conversation to my family. I was like why are y’all voting for him? Response was they were tired of the cost of living going up under Biden. I told them but Trumps plan is tariffs to fix it and I went into detail about how they work, the history of tariffs that worked out and those that didn’t and why, and how it would make everything worse specifically for our families businesses cause our families import so much from outside for their Asian grocery stores. One of them had to close their store cause they couldn’t break even. So stupid, cause even now they don’t like the “I told you so”. Instead they go with, there was no way to foresee Trump would have inherited a war and that the cities like New York City and Minneapolis were going to be trouble and also that the Democratic Party would make it hard for him to help the economy. It’s just not worth the attempt to convince anymore, doesn’t matter what proof or evidence you have because they have some other form of media that says otherwise. When I look into the sources and discredit them cause it’s f****** tik tok and short form content posts. They just find another short form content post to counterargue while I’m here pulling out full on articles from multiple news sources. So f****** stupid.

He's even spending hundreds of billions of dollars without congressional approval at this point and no one is stopping him. This. In the Senate, the majority of seats up for reelection this cycle are safe R seats which still leaves them with a 51 seat majority. There's 4 seats that are a toss-up at this point. It's entirely possible that Republicans pick up a Senate seat or two. Upsets aren't off the table, but I think best case scenario is 50/50 split, which means that that JD Vance will be the tie-breaker. But this also considers Fetterman a Democrat. Even if the Dems walk away with a 51 seat majority, he's going to be a total a****** and vote with the Republicans most of the time anyway. The House will most likely have a comfortable Dem lean. I actually expect a number of upsets, in favor of Dems, this year. Short of Trump being on his best behavior through the summer, the Republicans have little to nothing to campaign on.

I live in a rural area of South Florida. Very strong Trump supporters area, flags, banners. Full on Trump parades. A few houses on my way home have had a large Trump banner on their fence since 2016. Around March of last year I started seeing them come down. Now I don't even see many bumper stickers at this point. Really looks like people are hoping everybody forgets how big of a supporter they were.

I work and live amongst almost Republicans. Rural area. I don't see much difference in the signage. And scarier, amongst the ones I know well enough to discuss politics, it's the same old drag. "I don't like Donald Trump, but *some ridiculous, vague excuse of why Democrats would be worse*". When you press them on how absurd this is, it's always "I don't want to talk about politics, everyone will just get angry". There is literally **nothing** that will ever make GOP voters see how wrong they are. Nothing. They'll destroy democracy, the rule of law, the economy, and all of our lives over how much they hate Democrats. It isn't that they want GOP policies as much as it is how much they hate the Democratic party. And I'm not talking about toothless trailer skunks. Educated, otherwise intelligent people. The decades of propaganda, linking everything they don't like to the Democrats is so effective that nothing will get through to them. I literally had a person recently say "I wish there was a party in the middle. I'm a moderate." Yes, I had to bite my tongue, the lunacy of voting for Republicans and calling yourself a moderate. I was about to scream "What radicalism do you think exists on the side of the Democratic party that equals destroying Social Security, January 6th, this ludicrous war in Iran, and all the other crazytown shit of the last 46 years?" when the wife said the "I don't wanna' talk about politics" thing. This is an important point. I think the idea that they can cheat by flipping a switch or messing with "computers" is just not true because of the way or elections are run. I think they will but the thing about those machines is they can only successfully hide a small percentage of vote changing. It was enough in swing states in november 2024 to get those few point swings in his favor, but Republicans have been losing in massive point gaps. I think an average I saw was 17 point difference on all special elections since his inauguration. I dont think they can get enough machines to swing wide enough without blatant obvious cheating. Especially since elections are run at the state level.

Like here's the thing...at this point the GOP's only hope is to rig the elections, that's why Trump is throwing a fit to get SAVE passed because this the only way to do without looking like they're doing it. Otherwise the House Majority? Gone. It's already barely there. Senate majority? A bigger battle but firmly in the realm of possibility. And keep in mind this is with the DNC doing nothing. They're aren't exactly out there pushing narratives, propping up a lot of candidates. If the DNC was actually out there? Doing the obvious and pointing out that all three branches of the government in under Trump's control and this is what you get? It would be too big to rig.

I'd say preventing passage of the SAVE act has been a good example of the kind of fighting I want to see from them. Something meaningful instead of just performative. They don't really have a lot of power to reign in Trump right now and preventing SAVE is a sensible and effective way of using what little juice they have.

I’d like to point out that a lot of these flips are in ‘Red’ areas, and are being won by insanely thin margins. That means 2 things: 1. we still need to vote! Don’t think that just because a dem won a (formerly) red county by 4 votes that your lifelong blue county can’t flip by 4 votes! Vote yourself, get your friends and family to vote, and get them to get THEIR friends and family to vote. That is how you energize and mobilize, locally, not by having Beyoncé or Taylor swift tell people at concerts. 2. Places that have been considered ‘solid’ Red or Blue are ALWAYS up for grabs. Any county, any city, any state. We know there are tens of millions of people not voting, and on a local level it often wouldn’t take much to flip these places. Don’t lose hope or get bogged down.
