Cold Case is making me realize how often old songs resurface

Posted by No-Acanthisitta7086

I’ve been watching Cold Case and every few episodes I’m like “wait I know this song” 😭 Not from the show, but from hearing it around recently. It’s kinda cool because the show uses era specific music but those same songs keep coming back years later. Music really just cycles instead of disappearing. Keep in mind I’m only on season 1.

Cold Case plays songs from the year the episode is trying to solve the cold case from. If that doesn't make sense. Murder happened in 1980... Cold Case will play songs from 1980.

This explains it. They naturally will choose a popular one from that year that aged well.

Not always true, they did a pink floyd themed episode called flashover, and it cold case occurred in 2006. The songs are from the 70s and 80. Particularly Comfortably numb since it came out when The Wall album was released.

Not always true but almost always true. Only the band themed episodes didn't lock in on the year. Pearl Jam's episodes, too. But, overall, the songs are from the year.

Cold Case has the best music. I could write an essay about it and probably will someday bc the music in that show, especially the earlier seasons, is that fantastic.

Cold Case's formula was so good. It needed one more season. I must admit Cold Case is one of my favorite shows of all time. It was a phenomenal day when it finally landed on HBO Max after years of being in the desert because of the music rights.

Agree completely! I’m thankful they didn’t just try to change the music to something similar sounding… I recall that happening with Skins when Hulu picked it up and it just wasn’t the same show anymore.

it really makes you feel like you are in whatever time they are in.

The show made great use of era appropriate music, but the episodes where they went all in on a single musician as the soundtrack were incredible.

This show made me discover Aimee Mann. One of my favorite shows.

Google songs from the show per season. Great use of music. You can understand why licensing on re-runs was an issue for years.

I had the same experience with Cold Case, it’s kind of wild how often a song comes on and you instantly recognize it, even if you can’t place where from at first. I think the show really highlights how music doesn’t disappear, it just keeps getting reintroduced in different ways, movies, tiktok, playlists, whatever. So when you hear it in its original context, it feels weirdly familiar. It almost makes the scenes hit harder too, because there’s already some emotional connection there, even if you didn’t realize it.

I watched exactly one episode of Cold Case: Fly Away. I cried so much. No more Cold Case for me.

Crazy, I was *just* talking about this show with someone. Just wait til you get to the Rocky Horror episode, it's by far one of my favorites.
