Collecting hobbies like it’s a game

Posted by Capital-Trainer7765

Hey guys so in the last year Ive totally dropped all of my “vices” I used to be a heavy drinker, smoker, and over eater. Something switched in my brain (GENUINELY DON’T KNOW EXACLTY WHAT) where I began to value my life so much more than I had before??? It sounds silly but that’s the best way I can describe it. But since this I’ve been collecting hobbies like nobodies business one of my favorite things is for someone to ask me to go or do something or if the ask me if I know about something or know how to do something and I can genuinely say yes! A women of many talents. So here is my master list of hobbies I have picked up and stuck to. With that being said I do go through phases where these hobbies aren’t as prominent as the others. Also some of these things were prominent in my youth that have begun to flourish again. If you are considering becoming a hobby collector do it!!! Gives you something to live for each day and when you finish something you trust your self that much more to actually do what you said you were gonna do. Another thing I’ll say don’t spend money on hobbies til ur locked in… idk how to describe how to know if ur locked in or not but I hope you know urself well enough to know when it’s something you can keep at. Reading Finding new music/making playlist Planning social events Pickleball Skiing Running Lifting/strength training Cooking (not just normal cooking but finding c**** and easy but Healthy meals) Rosary making/beading Traveling Vintage shopping Dancing Gardening Facebook marketplace deal hunting Decorating Makeup/hair care Karaoke Praying Concerts Line dancing (I only know 2 dances but I know them well and am proud of that) Making my own teas by using different dried herbs and spices (More to come as I think of them) Things I’ve tried but don’t actively do or won’t do again unless someone I love REALLY REALLY wants me to: Rugby Softball Tie dye Mechanical bull riding cycling group fitness Zumba Swimming (like lane swimming not just normal swimming) VR (headaches for days following) (More to come as I think of them) I HOPE THIS INSPIRES YOU TO TRY SOMETHING NEW!!! Even if you think you’ll suck or won’t be able to JUST DO IT. Don’t fear what others will think.

I swear collecting hobbies is a hobby itself at this point 😭 I get super into something for like a week and then move on to the next thing like nothing happened

This sounds like a realistic life hack & I’m being 100% genuine. As a lifetime nicotine person I could see just throwing myself into a few things to get over it instead of white knuckling it.

YESSS I genuinely think I found a sobriety method of my own. I know a lot of people pick up new hobbies when they quite an addiction but some of us (myself adhd) need some verity!!

I always recommend giving knitting and/or crochet a shot! Keeps your hands busy and by the end you have something you can physically hold and show off

I should!! I’m worried I’ll lack patience for the learning process but tbh I’ve shocked myself all over the board with this new hobby of collecting hobbies. I’ll keep you posted if I try!!

Haha, this sounds like me with my hobbies. It's just so fun and fascinating to learn new things, and sometimes just challenging yourself to figure things out. I especially love getting into hobbies that allow me I create meaningful things for others. I got into sewing, creating props and animatronics, knitting, and leathercrafting because of that. If you had to choose your top 5 of all your hobbies that you recommend everyone try, which would get be?

I would really love to get into sewing. I’ve been flirting with the idea for a while! Maybe I’ll try hand sewing before I get a machine..my mom taught me a few stitches when I was young but I’m not sure if I remember them. (I’ll def look at fb marketplace before I get brand new) HMMMM okay here’s a list no specific order 1.Skiing- because of how badass it looks and feels Your body just genuinely feels so powerful 2.Reading- I just love basically being able to “watch” a tv show in my head anywhere and everywhere. Also I feel like a large population of reader are older so it’s a fun way to connect with older folks that I normally wouldn’t have much to talk with about. 3.praying- has brought so much clarity and joy into my life. 4.vintage shopping- if you have nothing to do on the weekend go to vintage shops!!! Alone or with others!! Such a fun way to spend a day and also you can find some awesome stuff 5.finding new music and making playlist!! It’s so fun to be able to remember times of my life because I have a specific playlist from that time. Leather crafting sounds like a fun hobby how did you get into that??

Handsewing is a great way to start! I actually sometimes prefer it for certain things, even though it's more time-consuming. YES, number 5! I make monthly playlists, and it's wild to go back to a specific month years ago and listen to whatever I put for that time. Like, I can remember what I was feeling, too. Leathercrafting is so much fun! I got into it because I was trying to make a wallet for a gift. I loved learning more about various tools and techniques and all the different kinds of leather.

Okay I’ll have to do it!! OMG I do the same thing I started doing the Monthly thing about a year ago and I will never not do it!!! It’s seriously my fav thing to go back to playlists How did you learn about it. Did you watch videos or learn somewhere in person?

I mostly learned from here and videos! I think most of what I know I learned on listnook, but I watched videos for better visuals

What in your opinion is the most satisfying hobby you've had, something that makes you genuinely happy and looking forward to the next day. I'm having a rough time of things lately and would love something to obsess over.

Okay so don’t hate me but one is running holy c*** I didn’t know what I was missing. I slowly built but to where I am now (I started with incline walks at the gym then did run walk intervals until one day I was able to run a mile full through outside) there’s much more to how I built up to where I am now and I can give you a break down if your genuinely interested!! (I’ve NEVER been a running in my LIFE very very beginner friendly) I’m not fast but it’s so rewarding. Another thing is GARDENING omg it is so rewarding! I watched tons and tons of videos on instagram and YouTube before I even started make sure you know what planting zone you are in to know what and when to plant. But it gave me so much purpose every day. Last year was my first year and all I produced were bad cucumbers, few cherry tomatoes and to many spicy banana peppers that I didn’t even know what to do with. I plan to have another garden this year!! And it really doesn’t take a lot of space you can get one small planter and put it on an apartment balcony and plant peppers and tomatoes. Lmk if either of these won’t work for you I’ll give you some other ideas!!

I've been trying to walk on the treadmill daily, with limited success, so might try that after I build up enough stamina. Gardening sounds really fun actually. I think I'll give that a go. Only have ever planted a few flowers so it would be nice. I like the idea of growing something I can eat.

When I first started with my incline walks I made the most insane playlist with the wildest rap and rock songs that really just made me feel like the dopest person on the planet I genuinely just imagined myself in some wild story line. Now that I run and don’t do incline walks anymore it’s funny I listen to more like yearning types of music it just fits my vibe and pace a lot better now and it’s fun to imagine myself running to my fictional forbidden lover. Like imagine running to White blank page by Mumford and sons 🔥🔥🔥🔥(Can you tell I have an insane imagination) I want to do a wild native flower box this year along with my veggies!! I really hope you find joy in it like I do! I would even talk to my plants like they were my pets 😂😂🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️ they say they grow better with positive affirmations so I took that and ran with it…

I like that, I should make a playlist. Usually bands like Imagine dragons help me when I'm doing cardio, I might find some more intense. And I love what you're doing now. I can just imagine big flowy dress running into the arms of a forbidden lover. It's amazing, insane imaginations for the win! Thank you for those lovely words, and for sharing your stories. I hope you make a cute flower box too. Love love how you talk to plants, it sounds so cuteee
