It's so weird seeing Alanah without silver hair

Also which is more plausible; your colleague is Superman or he looks like Superman? To most people, Superman is an alien superhero. A modern demigod. For all we know, when he's done for the day, he flew to the sun to recharge or something.

Yeah, why would this demigod have a day job.

She hasn't had "unnatural" hair since shortly after she worked for IGN.
1
numbr87 Mar 27, 2026 +1
Platinum blonde is still pretty unnatural lol Especially if you're normally brunette
1
EddieVanzetti Mar 27, 2026 +1
Considering she used to have the tumblr gamer girl aesthetic with blue, purple, red, pink, lavender etc etc hair, that's darn near natural for her.

I used to work at a gym and met a client who had a Funhaus hat I didn’t recognize. He revealed that he edited thumbnails for them as an intern and though it was hard work, he also said it was the most fun being around the group.

13
monkeymad2 Mar 26, 2026 +56
She worked for IGN as a journalist (writing, not video) first, and I’m pretty sure she’s done a bunch of voice acting work (I think starting with what was basically a cameo in Cyberpunk, but her latest stuff (DISPATCH etc) is legit)
56
serenchi Mar 27, 2026 +23
Pretty sure she was in V/H/S/Beyond too.

11

She was at Sony Santa Monica, but I think she was on another project that might still be unannounced (or has been cancelled) with some limited involvement with Ragnarock
32
Canvaverbalist Mar 27, 2026 +2
Don't mention that you'll trigger the incels (She didn't, but she mentioned something about it one time and then a bunch of losers started accusing her of lying about working on that game despite never having said that. It was... weird.)

Didn't just start out as just a YouTuber, she studied media and then wrote freelance review articles for various sites, became an editor at IGN, then eventually Inside Gaming. Her YouTube channel progressed alongside working on those.

The other day I saw a *car ad* on Instagram that featured Alanah Pearce. She was narrating it and at one point said something like, "as someone who meets with CEOs, this car provides..." Like what!? We're talking about CEOs now? Lol. Good for her though. She has always felt like a great example of what it means to author your own future. EDIT: Not that what I'm about to say detracts from any of her accomplishments, but it was recently brought to my attention that she has a little bit of a history of misrepresenting situations/being vague in odd ways. Again, none of these controversies are significant, but yeah. Felt like it was worth sharing since my original comment put her on a pretty high pedestal. I don't agree with everything written in the following link, but it does provide a decent high level summary of what I'm referring to. https://www.listnook.com/r/Games_Piracy/s/a5eqM1lpNC

this seems like the kinda shit she'd call cringy bullshit on her channel are you sure it was actually her and not a soundalike/robot?
28
JeroK00 Mar 27, 2026 +8
It's probably the Lexus sponsorship that she posted on ig a few days ago. Hey, founding a movie studio ain't c****, if I could get paid just to be called cringe and then fund projects that I love, I'd do it on a hearts beat. That other dude that responded to you is being cringe for free lmao

You have to admire her bravery. I've always been a somewhat passive fan of hers and it's sucked watching her be constantly harassed, and even sexually harassed at times by "gamers." Super embarrassing and I was always afraid it'd chase her off (I wouldn't blame her) She deserves the respect of protection from that kind of stuff but she doesn't let it keep her from doing what she wants. She's not perfect but she tries. I've come to notice how important that is in people over the years. Ggs Alanah

This isn't specified enough : >Creator and producer Alanah Pearce today announced the launch of Charred Pictures, an independent production company dedicated to adapting video game intellectual property for film and television, in close collaboration with original developers. Almost 100% in the ends of the devs, which is amazing Like she said on IG : >Helping independent game developers make independent adaptations, THEIR WAY! No more buying rights and taking it straight to a Hollywood screenwriter to write the script - we write them WITH the dev teams. We use their sound designers. Their composers. Their artists. The people who created the thing people fell in love with in the first place!

If iron lung was able to do it without Blumhouse, then Alanah and her team can too
15
Kryosquid Mar 27, 2026 +7
Iron Lung did not get good reviews.
7
BactaBobomb Mar 27, 2026 +14
63% critics / 87% audience on RT, 54 Metacritic (critics) / 7.6 Metacritic (users).... these numbers do not justify "did not get good reviews." The reviews were mixed, but it doesn't paint as bad of a picture as you are conveying. You do understand that these are aggregates, right? There are people that loved it, people that hated it, people that thought it was okay. That's how all movies and these percentages are. 12% means 12% of the reviews were mixed to positive. It's not that the movie is a 12/100 or something. But even putting all that aside. Those scores are not bad.
14
opal_mirage Mar 27, 2026 +16
3.2 on letterboxd is pretty good for what the movie is
16
Alastor3 Mar 27, 2026 +15
but it made 7 times it's budget, sometimes it's not always about reviews score
15
MichelangeBro Mar 27, 2026 +12
And this kind of thinking is what's slowly killing movies. It made seven times its budget because of the name attached to it. Nothing more.
12
thisisnotmylaptop Mar 27, 2026 +5
if it's not live action, they'll just be making cutscenes which is filmmaking in it's own right

Weirdly enough I’ve seen cinematographers use unreal engine for shotlisting for planning lights, character blocking, and various focal lengths of lenses to compose/frame up general pre visualization. It’s probably one of the coolest shifts I’ve seen in a while and it’s INCREDIBLY helpful for planning since most of the time narrative films always fight time with ambitious setups.

thedinobot1989 Mar 26, 2026
That’s not even remotely the same. Putting a film together is a group effort and you need to be able to coordinate that all together to make something cohesive. YouTube videos/editing is nothing close to that…
0
Amphiscian Mar 27, 2026 +11
Its funny, Burnie Burns, who was kinda Alannah's boss at one point, always said it was a huge missed opportunity that so many people who got popular and successful in this whole new form of media (the internet), still mostly ended up moving to LA to try to get in with the old media.
11
havewelost6388 Mar 27, 2026 +2

2
ThomasVivaldi Mar 26, 2026 +8
If they're going the Blumhouse method of low production costs, decent returns, it could work. The timing of release will be the key.
8
redbluemmoomin Mar 27, 2026 +2
She’s already worked on a horror film as a co writer/producer. That JackSepticeye helped back. Game writers can’t work on studio films due to WGA rules. I can see where she got the idea, and she knows film makers/crew via her work and her partner being buddies with Mike Flanagan.
2
TrumpWasABadPOTUS Mar 27, 2026 +6
Honestly, while it is a "by the numbers possession story," i do think the horror market is hungry for exactly that, especially with the more explicitly religious angle that the game takes (rather than just a spooky possessor ghost). Especially with the disappointments that roll out of the Exorcise franchise and similar, a solid, classic possession story might land just right with horror audiences. It would with me, if it is good.
6
breadofthegrunge Mar 26, 2026 +1
I dunno if I'd say that. It's got some really interesting ideas.
1
tylerthe-theatre Mar 26, 2026 +285
Happy for Alanah and I've followed her work for years, shes really level headed, wise to the game industry and games writing, interesting to see her going down the movie route. Shes quite passionate about game dev involvement in projects and protection of IP so this could be the start of something interesting. Especially for fans of games that complain about adaptations not being faithful.
285
COHERENCE_CROQUETTE Mar 26, 2026 +90
She seems nice, but she does a thing I absolutely despise in her YT channel: she goes for vague and straight-up clickbait titles and thumbnails (particularly the titles), in pretty much every video.
90
Blazingscourge Mar 26, 2026 +190
Unfortunately that’s just the way the YouTube algorithm game is played.
190
Rulligan Mar 26, 2026 +95
She's talked about it on other channels how she despises it but the algorithm must be fed.
95
Garbage__Gang Mar 26, 2026 +27
Yup, I remember when she joined Funhaus and they started titling all their videos with "Gameplay Funny Moments" or something like that, and it pretty evidently helped them in their view counts. Always been a fan of hers too, and she was great on Funhaus.
27
Spicy_Ahoy86 Mar 26, 2026 +10
Yep! I remember her critiquing Astro Goblin early on about their "uninteresting" thumbnails lol
10
One-Feedback678 Mar 26, 2026 +8
It's so funny and awful this is a widespread thing. Most YouTubers hate it but when it's your job you kinda just have to eat shit at time to pay the bills.
8
monkeymad2 Mar 26, 2026 +115
I think she talked about this recently (or if it wasn’t her it was someone similar) and YouTube lets you submit 3 different thumbnails / titles so she puts one where it’s a sensible title that describes the content, one slightly clickbait one, and one that’s just silly - then YouTube shows different titles to users for the first couple of hours and automatically picks the one that got the most user engagement & it’s almost always the silly clickbait one that wins.
115
tokes_4_DE Mar 26, 2026 +59
I thought i was going crazy, sometimes id see new videos reccomended and then a few hours later id see the same video but with a completely different thumbnail.
59
ChiefGraypaw Mar 26, 2026 +18
WOAH! Is this why sometimes I’ll see a completely different thumbnail and title on a YouTube video when it was uploaded vs a couple of days later?
18
bradagon Mar 26, 2026 +48
Literally everyone successful does this. Blame the masses, if anyone.
48
Coolman_Rosso Mar 26, 2026 +18
You can thank the algorithm and Mr. Beast for that
18
COHERENCE_CROQUETTE Mar 26, 2026 +1
You think MrBeast invented clickbait?
1
Coolman_Rosso Mar 26, 2026 +15
No, but he was integral in supercharging it into what it is now
15
MyNameIs-Anthony Mar 26, 2026 +8
Not at all but it's markedly more intense as a result of his tactics and is a reason he has such a divisive reputation amongst content creators.
8
EddieVanzetti Mar 27, 2026 +2
She's a "content creator". Clickbait is her bread and butter. Lying and distorting facts to create a narrative that suits her and elevates her is her meat and potatoes. She was *not* a writer at Sony, she was an "accessibility consultant". She got publicly called out by the *actual* head writer of God of War Ragnarok for this. She is also a plagiarist and her career should have died in 2019 when she did that.
2
thortmb Mar 26, 2026 +5
She talks about how she has to do that and doesnt enjoy it in those videos
5
The_Blind_Sentry Mar 26, 2026 +4
That is bashed off of YouTubes A B testing. She has explained that she creates three title and thumbnail combos for each video.  A journalistic one, a click bait one and one in the middle.  YouTube usually picks the one that does best and locks that in after a day or two.  Generally the one that performs best is the click bait one. It's a structural issue not an individual creator one.
4
COHERENCE_CROQUETTE Mar 26, 2026 +1
I just made another comment in this thread going more in-depth in this particular argument. I understand the argument that the clickbaity option simply performs better. That's a given. The issue here is that she's even submitting a clickbaity option in the first place, knowing full well that it's going to perform better anyway. She's playing the "it's not my fault, you guys, I tried a good one but it didn't work!" card. How about giving **three good options** in the first place and seeing which does better between them, huh? She doesn't want to do that, right?
1
The_Blind_Sentry Mar 26, 2026 +1
I mean she may be giving what she thinks are three good options.  Many creators are dealing with this. Most times you see a video change its name it is down to AB testing
1
COHERENCE_CROQUETTE Mar 26, 2026 +2
She isn’t. Many other comments are here telling me she has lamented herself that the worst option in terms of clickbait always wins, which is an admission that that option is bad even to her standards. It’s just that she doesn’t care about using the bad option. I say, don’t upload a version if you look at it and think “gosh I hope the AB testing doesn’t pick this one!”
2
Adziboy Mar 27, 2026 +2
Why would she risk her career earnings on a title change? One bad video or two can destroy a channel.
2
ZombieJesus1987 Mar 26, 2026 +3
yeah i had to unfollow her on youtube because every video title was a variation of "we need to talk about this"
3
DGlen Mar 26, 2026 +2
You don't do it, you don't get clicks. Just like telling people to like and subscribe. Can it be annoying? sure. Do you make money if you don't do it? Nope. Unfortunately the analytics tell people it is a requirement.
2
COHERENCE_CROQUETTE Mar 26, 2026 -2
\> You don't do it, you don't get clicks. Not true. This is what they tell you as a way of saving face, but it's patently not true. Maybe if we change it to "You don't do it, you don't get enough clicks to own your own Hollywood movie studio" it becomes true, I'll concede that much. But it is patently not true to say "You don't do it, you don't get enough clicks to be a full-time YouTuber". I know this for a fact and will not hear otherwise.
-2
Adziboy Mar 27, 2026 +2

There's actually a separate sub specific for that called r/CultOfMalevolaGibb, the dispatch sublistnook splits the gooning pretty evenly between her and the two actual romance options.

On the one hand good for her. On the other hand she has 3(?) podcasts, two YouTube channels, a streaming channel, is working in some capacity in at least 3 games of which 1 she is narrative director, and is now launching a movie production company. She has to have one heck of a stressful career.

Gamerguy230 Mar 26, 2026 +9
Was she doing 3 games after she had to leave Santa Monica studios?

SuperCoffeeHouse Mar 26, 2026 +7
I know she’s working on Layers Deep in a pretty big way. Im not too familiar with the other two but I’m pretty sure she’s writing on another project as a freelance, and the third might have been Dispatch but I’m not too sure.

I've been wondering why there was no new PWL in a while. I guess this is why!

The_Nerditorium Mar 27, 2026 +20
Director of the FAITH movie here. Alanah has been instrumental in getting the movie where it needs to be. I've been working with the creator, Airdorf Games, and our goal is to deliver something the fans are really going to enjoy. I fell in love with the FAITH games after seeing Markiplier play them on his channel, fell deeper in love after playing them, and sought out the creator to get the rights. We hope you enjoy it.

I do need to consoom more sloppa yum yum

gamersecret2 Mar 26, 2026 +33
This is actually smart. People who know games should be making these movies, not people who barely understand why fans care.

ncopp Mar 26, 2026 +11
She's gunning to get a deadly premonitions adaptation, I know that's her end game
11
RadSkeleton808 Mar 26, 2026 +7
I hope it stays faithful to the games. Otherwise I don't think it has a prayer to succeed. I'm worried they'll get crucified if they don't adapt the pixel style in some clever way but that's a bridge we'll cross when we get there.

Any deviation would mortifying.

This lady is a jack of all trades in the entertainment business. Good for her honestly. She's kind of living the dream

theonly_brunswick Mar 26, 2026 +12
Master of none

EddieVanzetti Mar 27, 2026 +3
She's a lying, shameless self promoting, plagiarist. Her career should have ended back in 2019 when she plagiarized art.
3
TomTomXD1234 Mar 26, 2026 +12
Stopped being a fan after she lied about cyberpunk and how well it ran and played.....we know how that game launched She was cast in the game as a quest giver FYI
12
EddieVanzetti Mar 27, 2026 +8
Lying about cyberpunk is probably the least of her lies. She's lied for years about her contributions to the gaming industry and her skill set. She claimed she "worked at Sony Santa monica for 4 years as a scenario, script, and character writer" for God of War Ragnarok and the *actual* head writer of the game, Anthony Burch, called her out for this lie (she is listed in the credits as "accessibility consultant"). The most damning lie she ever told was plagiarizing art and trying to pass it off as her own. That should have killed her career dead in the water.

BertieDastard Mar 26, 2026 +6
Damn, and to think she's managed this whilst suffering life's greatest handicap: being Australian
6
TheDawiWhisperer Mar 27, 2026 +1
I mean, she's largely overcome that by simply being very attractive

thedinobot1989 Mar 26, 2026 +10
Launching a indie film studio with no film experience is…something.
10
redbluemmoomin Mar 27, 2026 +2
IMDB makes you wrong🤦‍♂️ a minute on google would have given you the correct answer. Acted and written for a few indie productions.

Anoobing7 Mar 27, 2026 -1
She was one of the leads in the last VHS movie.

EddieVanzetti Mar 27, 2026 +1
Specifically because she is a scab, the director outright said the reason she got hired was because she was non-union. Alanah is a piece of shit.

Let me guess. She’s gonna take credit for a bunch of stuff she didn’t do with this too?

Surely everyone will be normal about this.

Xaroin Mar 26, 2026 +3
They need to keep the Atari 2600 style audio filter over all the demon voices because it works so exceptionally well in the game
3
tfhermobwoayway Mar 26, 2026 +1
It’s just a game, man. A film could be so much more.
1
Xaroin Mar 27, 2026 +1
It’s an iconic use for the game and worked exceptionally well to boost the horror factor. The lines wouldn’t have landed as well if not for the sound use of the audio filter
1
xander763pdx Mar 26, 2026 +3
Yuck.

LikeAPwny Mar 26, 2026 +1
Oh f*** Faith is absolutely terrifying for a game that looks like it was made on Atari.
1
serimuka_macaron Mar 26, 2026 +1
THERE'S GONNA BE A FAITH MOVIE??? HOLY SHIT!!!
1
AidilAfham42 Mar 27, 2026 +1
Ok now which indie games you want to see adapted? Would love one of Supergiant Games adapted to an anime
1
appletinicyclone Mar 27, 2026 +1
I don't know if they'll make money on this but they do have some things working well for them Iron lung showed that gaming adaptations from dedicated YouTube creators can work fantastically well And horror movies tend to generate quite a bit of money relative to cost that other genres don't
1
Thebaldsasquatch Mar 27, 2026 +1
Weird seeing how far she’s come from her IGN days.
1
EddieVanzetti Mar 27, 2026 +2
It's amazing what can happen when you have no shame and are conventionally attractive.
2
Thebaldsasquatch Mar 27, 2026 +2
No shame? That’s an odd thing to say…

Charred Pictures sounds like it has a distinct brand identity already.

They should adapt upcoming Returnal spiritual sequel Saros first. No idea who would play the lead though. Maybe Dev Patel.

Wow good for her. I miss the funhaus days.
1
Hotmicdrop Mar 28, 2026 +1
Headline was hard to understand. Isn't this an ex game journalist that ripped off someone's art as her own? Or am I thinking of someone else?
1
eldenpotato Mar 28, 2026 +1
I’ve never heard of that game tbh lol

bvanbove25 Mar 26, 2026 +1
Jesus, not something I would’ve expected her to be doing. But hey, if cool things come of this I’m totally happy.
1
zZINCc Mar 26, 2026 +17
Probably not 5 or so years ago. But her relationship with Rahul has opened her up to the Flanaverse as well as Hollywood in general. I don’t find it that surprising 🤷‍♂️
17
bvanbove25 Mar 26, 2026 +13
True, though I don't see any direct connection with Flanagan in this endeavor (obviously the horror connection and probably some networking). I haven't really kept up with her since the old Funhaus days, as her content is mostly just not for me, so other than knowing she had done some writing for games I wasn't aware she had an interest in movie-making. So yeah, good for her. Always happy when people can realize their creative dreams and such.
13
zZINCc Mar 26, 2026 +8
I just mentioned Flanagan because, as far as I am aware, he is pretty beloved from anyone he interacts with. So if his reach is far I am sure it helps. He and his wife are extremely good friends with Alanah. Having talent is one thing, but knowing the right people can make all the difference. Flanagan and Siegel have also done some game content that I know of as well. So, their streams also interconnect.
8
bvanbove25 Mar 26, 2026 +5
I've yet to hear a bad thing about Flanagan. Had no clue he and his wife did any sort of non-movie/show content, or that is crossed paths with Alanah and Rahul. That's pretty cool and certainly could be even a tiny part in how this is getting launched for Alanah. Again, just good stuff all around.
