The Supreme Court is hearing arguments in a case challenging Donald Trump's bid to end birthright citizenship. It itsn't just about immigration.

He doesn't even believe Barack Obama is a citizen. This is all pointless.

A literal birth cirtificate, newspaper announcement, and proof of his mother's citizenship wasn't enough proof of Obama's citizenship. How much proof would another random citizen require?

Probably, like most things, would depend on how much of a minority you are

\*how much money you have to offer.

In the minds of people like tRump, there is no amount of proof acceptable for those in the out group. Where those part of the in group (e.g Muskrat), are citizens because they say so.

As we've seen when ICE decides the IDs of people they don't like are fake.

Worth noting that proof of his mother’s citizenship actually *wasn’t* enough, IIRC, due to the physical presence requirement at the time. She didn’t have enough years physically present past the given age. *Had* he been born outside the US (he wasn’t!) he would have needed to be naturalized and been ineligible. Because for *reasons* the requirements for citizenship *to this day* if born abroad depend on whether your parents are married, and the requirements vary by gender of the parent who holds citizenship. It’s a thing. All moot, obviously, because he was born in f****** Hawaii. But that’s where you get into conspiracy theory bullshit; you can never prove a conspiracy theory wrong, because any proof you provide is just part of the conspiracy.

He was born in Hawaii. That is a state last I looked

They want proof of citizenship to vote. When you have it, they just say it's fake?

Would you let Donald Trump near your child in the first place? Seems a bit irresponsible.

Caraes_Naur Apr 1, 2026 +1
A child wouldn't go near him because of the smell.

**Jacob Hamburger for Rolling Stone:** *The form my wife and I completed in the hospital would still allow our daughter to receive a birth certificate. But like most states, Wisconsin’s birth certificates do not contain any information about whether a child’s parents are U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Since the Trump administration rejects U.S. birth as proof of U.S. citizenship, if we want to prove that our newborn daughter is a U.S. citizen when seeking her passport or Social Security card, a birth certificate would not be enough. We would have to prove to the federal government that we are citizens too.*  *How could we prove that? The United States does not maintain a comprehensive national registry of citizens. This is precisely why federal agencies rely on birth certificates and other records created by state and local governments. I am fortunate enough to have traveled internationally, and so I could use my passport to prove my citizenship. For other families, this would not be so easy. Only about* [*half*](https://www.ssa.gov/dataexchange/documents/Updated%20State%20Processing%20Guidelines%20for%20EAB.pdf) *of Americans currently hold a passport, which costs hundreds of dollars to request.*   Read more: [https://www.rollingstone.com/politics/political-commentary/birthright-citizenship-case-supreme-court-1235539699/](https://www.rollingstone.com/politics/political-commentary/birthright-citizenship-case-supreme-court-1235539699/)

This change wouldn’t be retroactive, so a baby already born today wouldn’t be affected. From the EO: > (b) Subsection (a) of this section shall apply only to persons who are born within the United States after 30 days from the date of this order. The order also doesn’t require citizenship, only lawful permanent residence. At which point any state-issued Real ID compliant document would do. These are available to non-citizens as well as citizens. That said, as someone who has personally struggled to get a Real ID issued (still haven’t), I know that this is still a problem. I have a birth certificate in hand and was born in the US, not enough. That our nation doesn’t have an easily and cheaply obtained document to show citizenship or legal residence is *already* a problem, and one this (unconstitutional!) executive order definitely highlights.

I wouldn't let my child anywhere near his tiny-touchy-feely pedo hands.
1
iam_valetinacross Apr 1, 2026 +1
Bold of you to assume he’d listen long enough for me to show him the birth certificate.

Rbtmd78 Apr 1, 2026 +1
Do you have enough money?

Mike_Pences_Mother Apr 1, 2026 +1
Could you convince Donald Trump that he remembers yesterday?
1
flexiblefine Apr 1, 2026 +1
Yes, my kids are white. But I’m not letting him anywhere near my daughter.
1
JaronJervis Apr 1, 2026 +1
'Letting' has nothing to do with it. If he wanted to have you all grabbed by ICE and to have his way with the child, that's what the Dementia Dipshit will do. None of us are safe
1
flexiblefine Apr 1, 2026 +1
I agree that nobody is safe with that guy and his sycophants in charge. Let me be lighter online than I am in my heart.

JaronJervis Apr 1, 2026 +1
Could Trump convince America he's not a pedo?
1
neogreenlantern Apr 1, 2026 +1
Child? Depending on how this goes I don't know if I'll be considered an US citizen anymore.

cone_snail Apr 1, 2026 +1
For toddlers-in-grownup-bodies there is no "convincing" no reasoning, no discussion. To them it's only about what they want.  Literally toddler throwing a tantrum. Unfortunately, I have known a few people of that kind. Could never get out of their tyranny fast enough.

Gruntled_Porcupine Apr 1, 2026 +1
They are arguing right now that me and my children aren't citizens, so probably not.
1
Historical_Bend_2629 Apr 1, 2026 +1
He doesn’t care. He only cares if they have a lot of money. And Stephen Miller only cares if they are white. The constitution doesn’t interest them.

raleighfsufan Apr 1, 2026 +1
Trump went to the Supreme Court today. Usually when he speaks he loses so I am thinking this too will be thrown out by Supreme Court as well

Curious-Emu3894 Apr 1, 2026 +1
We’re all illegals on stolen land!
1
T_Weezy Apr 1, 2026 +1
Me? Yeah. 'Cuz I'm white and English is my first language.
1
dmp2you Apr 1, 2026 +1
Only if they have blue eyes and blind hair ..
1
sylbug Apr 1, 2026 +1
Imagine letting Donald trump anywhere near a child.
1
What-do-I-know32112 Apr 1, 2026 +1
Well, I'm white and my child is a white male. So, he would probably be convinced.
1
whydontyousuckmyball Apr 1, 2026 +1
Could he convince us the Melania and Barron are not illegal and anchor babies. That the Florida elections are not fraudulent becuase of their mail in voting (i mean the trump family specifically)??
1
MrPatienceX Apr 1, 2026 +1
Who the f*** is letting Donald Trump near their own child?
1
DaddyBison Apr 1, 2026 +1
Just jingle some keys and give him some gold-painted bauble and he'll change his opinion on anything.
1
butter_toucher Apr 1, 2026 +1
Yes, we have Legal ID's and passports and birth certificates.
1
Areshian Apr 1, 2026 +1
On one hand he is an idiot that tends to agree with the last person he talks to, so probably. On the other hand, I’m not a US citizen. I also don’t have any kids.

restore_democracy Apr 1, 2026 +1
They’re better off deported anyway.
