First global effort'? What exactly were the last 28 COP summits then, an international book club for private jet owners?

Pretty much. COP 30 recently concluded without even mentioning fossil fuels. The big petrostates so undermine those conferences that the rest of the world is now gathering without us, to actually call the task at hand what it is.

It's great imo. Not enough weird artistic expression in the world these days.

A first step taken for the world to try to wean itself away from dependence on fossile fuel though US not participating is no surprise here.

About time. Now if only they could do coal. The American public would be on board with this, but for one man. Another thing to thank him for

Is Brazilian sugar cane considered a fossil fuel? Or is it a biofuel?

Sugar cane is processed into ethanol which is a biofuel.

But sugar cane requires massive fossil fuel input to process. Our entire civilization has grown around fossil fuels and is utterly dependent on them.
The alternatives are inferior sources of energy. We won't give up fossil fuels until we're forced to, and the transition will be very painful and mean giving up on economic growth as we've known it.

I'm not an expert. But, 80 % of new light vehicles in Brazil are flex-fuel vehicles which means they can run on either gasoline or ethanol. Ethanol has a lower carbon foot print than gasoline. They use sugarcane biomass to produce energy to make ethanol. There is no silver bullet for addressing climate change. It is buckshot. There needs to be multiple solutions to wean off the the teat of big oil. A developed economy has more options than a developing economy.

Many of the world's economically strongest nations are growing just fine while burning less and less fossil fuel. Whether EVs in Norway and Ethiopia, solar in Spain or Australia, or all of it together in China, the world increasingly sees oil and gas as the threat that it is.
