I thought nationwide injunctions can't be issued anymore? So wouldn't this "only" apply to the fifth district?
9695
YouCanCallMeBemis May 1, 2026 +1782
And, hypothetically, if someone from *outside* of the fifth circuit states mails a package into those states…. How would it actually be “blocked,” in practice?

It can't be, unless your package is very suspicious looking/smelling or randomly screened for illegal objects.

Thats actually not true. The government will find ways to make this upheld. For example, I live in utah. Utah will not allow and tobacco or alcohol products shipped to your home. There's no way around it. If you try and get vape products shipped in(they banned them completely here except for tobacco flavored real vape, not disposables) the companies wont ship to you, or the post office will seize them. The state of utah made it super clear they will go after anyone who breaks the law, as far as businesses, not consumers. So because the onus is on the company, they will not mail stuff to homes. Im guessing thats how they'd enforce something like this, going after the manufacturers and companies selling the products. Edit: i misspoke when I said there is no way around it. I meant LEGAL way around it. I understand people can absolutely find ways around the law. People have always done that. I meant if you were a law bidding company that wants to be taken seriously, there isnt a way around those laws. Edited because that comment was too concrete and upset people in the comments lol my bad yall

nothing you said has anything to do with the USPS actually opening your mail, like the homie above you said. all mail sent first class or priority, the USPS needs a federal warrant People all over America are getting literal weed, mushrooms, Xanax, and more shipped directly through USPS. the post office is the world's best drug delivery service the trick is to *not* use UPS or FedEx. They can and will open shit if they want cause they're at risk. **so with Utah** and other states & shitty laws, agencies rely on paper trails. Tobacco is different and sellers need to register in states they sell for tax reasons. and there are definitely loopholes and such, it's not as half amazing of a system as you're claiming. it's not to hard to doctor where transactions take place, especially online, and then ship discretely & overnight that shit, or risk UPS/FedEx.

wasteymclife May 2, 2026 +172
Anecdotal of course but I have never had any trouble asking family in another state to buy something that can't be shipped here (the state didn't have one of the GOT beers) and mailing it to me in a flat rate box. It's not that hard, OP is acting like his car would explode if he broke the speed limit. Also people drive out of state to buy booze, weed, and vapes literally every day it's why there's so many of those stores right across the borders.
172
YouCanCallMeBemis May 2, 2026 +247
That makes sense for companies with legitimate supply chains; it might not be worth the risk to send their products into the state. But it doesn’t seem like there is any way to reasonably police an underground network of individual shippers…. people from states where abortion pills are accessible, sending individual packages to those in need in other states. And, if one of those senders gets caught, what would Texas actually be able to do? Extradite the sender from their blue state, which obviously won’t cooperate? Asking out of genuine curiosity, as it just seems impossible to fully enforce.
247
EmergencyLet3954 May 2, 2026 +51
No I totally get that. I think your point is valid and it will be more of an underground network that gets played out. Im guessing it'll be something they fully enforce when they really want to catch someone for something else? Because Utah extradites people for sure, but generally im not sure how they could fully functionally enforce this without coming up with a bill for someone to pay. I guess I dont know how enforceable it will be im execution, I just meant some states have figured out ways to enforce mailing laws already so im guessing it'll be in that same purview. But thats a great question, ill have to do some more research!

cylondsay May 2, 2026 +49
i used to work for an alcohol distributer. officially, we couldnt mail alcohol over state lines as it was illegal. unofficially, i used to mail “samples” all over the country (including utah) all the time. just pack it really well and lie about what’s inside. i never had any packages inspected or returned
49
sitefall May 2, 2026 +21
I ship about 100 things a week to all 50 states + Puerto Rico so about 15k packages over the last 3 years and I've had 6 of them arrive opened searched and re-sealed then delivered randomly. 6 that I know about, they don't tell me it happened at all. I only know from customers asking about it and my website suggests including a photo of the damage (since I will have to ask for one anyway to claim the insurance on them). So who knows how many actually are searched and then I never hear about it. I don't ship anything illegal or suspicious looking, business name has nothing suspicious about it, not related to drinking or smoking, business address is on the up and up and I own the property so I know it's never been used to ship anything funny, it's literally just some CNC machined parts that people buy from me. So it absolutely happens.

223
UnlikelyRaven May 2, 2026 +228
No need, Florida already has one of the most restrictive anti-abortion laws in the country, allowing it only when the mother's like is actively in mortal danger or the fetus is already dead. A fetus "incompatible with life" or a complication that will eventually lead to mortal danger is not even enough Edit: I forgot about the initial 6 week period under which Florida abortions are still legal because, frankly, it's a completely useless platitude. 6 weeks is barely enough time to even realize you're pregnant let alone make such a monumental decision
228
WoolshirtedWolf May 2, 2026 +72
I can only imagine the outcome with a hospital trying to determine the parameters of the new laws while dealing with patients in this situation. I am sure its only hours before a patient can go into sespsis and then septic shock.

20
mnem0syne May 2, 2026 +23
It’s already happening, women have died from complications when they didn’t get interventions in time. In Texas there’s [Josseli Barnica](https://www.propublica.org/article/josseli-barnica-death-miscarriage-texas-abortion-ban), [Porsha Ngumezi](https://www.propublica.org/article/porsha-ngumezi-miscarriage-death-texas-abortion-ban), [Neveah Crain](https://www.propublica.org/article/nevaeh-crain-death-texas-abortion-ban-emtala). Or [Amber Thurman](https://www.propublica.org/article/georgia-abortion-ban-amber-thurman-death) in Georgia, all heartbreaking stories of not getting adequate care because of shit laws.
23
H0t4p1netr33S May 2, 2026 +19
The outcome is already known. Most hospitals governed by these laws refuse to perform abortions even when medically necessary due to the liability risk. Most doctors comfortable performing abortions are already leaving these states.
19
UnlikelyRaven May 2, 2026 +37
It's potentially even worse thanks to something called the "chilling effect", where individuals are afraid to take any action for fear of breaking intentionally vague laws, even when their actions would have been legal. In this case it's easy to imagine a doctor or hospital denying healthcare at any level to avoid legal action against them
37
Pokeynono May 2, 2026 +14
That was what finally sparked Ireland to change their constitution and allow abortion access. Too many women dying because the doctors were afraid to preform an abortion or D &C until the woman was literally dying

They're limited in how they apply. My understanding, and I'm high so take it with a grain of salt, is that if you can argue the "injury" is super broad, it can be nationwide. This seems to be how they argued it: “Every abortion facilitated by FDA’s action cancels Louisiana’s ban on medical abortions and undermines its policy that ‘every unborn child is human being from the moment of conception and is, therefore, a legal person,’” the ruling states.
132
Infranto May 2, 2026 +213

Educational-Analyst4 May 2, 2026 +25
They literally said that you can't use an injunction to stop the president from changing an amendment to the Constitution. That was the question they were answering when they made that ruling. Their ruling said that you can't stop a psychopath from doing something the Constitution literally says he can not do because the courts don't have the power to uphold the Constitution. No injury is more harmful on a national scale than that.
25
OneRougeRogue May 2, 2026 +36

TheThirdReckoning May 2, 2026 +15
As a non American, what is the 5th circuit? Sounds like a racetrack
15
danappropriate May 2, 2026 +51
The US federal court system is broken down into layers: - District Courts: the first layer of the federal court system. Federal lawsuits start here. - Appellate Courts: a.k.a. the Circuit Courts. On appeal of a District ruling, this is the next step in the process. Each court serves specific regions of the country. The next step after the Circuit Courts is the Supreme Court, and that's the end of the road. The Fifth Circuit holds appellate jurisdiction over the District Courts in Texas, Louisiana, and Mississippi. It's also notoriously stacked with far-right activist judges. When Republicans need a sure-fire political win in the Courts, they file a suit within the 5th Circuit, a process known as judge shopping.
51
TheThirdReckoning May 2, 2026 +22
Without any knowledge of this, as said, and not understanding why this is a thing or why this 5th circuit is seemingly comprised of three states that just happen to be next to each other, it smacks immediately of the potential to create bias much like your gerrymandering of redefining boundaries of electoral districts. Ready to accept that I'm wrong with this comparison though. I am but a poor, ignorant European without the understanding of true freedom. 🪨🇺🇸🦅
22
danappropriate May 2, 2026 +23
Historically, appellate judges would travel to cover the districts within their jurisdiction—hence, “circuit” court. The problem is judge shopping, where factions pick districts favorable to their political agenda. There have been legislative efforts to stop the practice, but you’ll never guess who’s standing in the way!
23
Grant_Winner_Extra May 1, 2026 +3245
The 5th circuit is the most-overturned circuit and they’ve tried this a half dozen times already. It will get overturned and even if it doesn’t, it only applies in the 5th circuit.

‘every unborn child is human being from the moment of conception and is, therefore, a legal person,’ Okay cool (not cool). How about those of us who have missed miscarriages and are carrying around our dead baby’s fetus? We get to just sit here and wait to get an infection because you stupid morons can’t understand women’s health? I had my second missed miscarriage at the start of Covid. Abortion clinics were closed so I was forced to resort to mifepristone (which thankfully, was sent by mail). It was a miserable and physically painful experience that I wouldn’t wish on anyone. NO ONE is just using this shit “for funsies”, I assure you. A week later, during start of Covid lockdowns remember, I had to rush to urgent care. I was put in the Covid section since I had a fever. After testing I was admitted to the hospital for an emergency D&C (this is the procedure referred to as an “abortion” by the way and is regularly used for missed miscarriages) because I was on the verge of going septic from infection due to retained products of conception. This goes beyond a pro-life/pro-choice argument. Reducing access to mifepristone and abortion access is actively harming women. Choosing to ban abortion is choosing to kill women. Allowing doctors to be punished for terminating a pregnancy is making doctors scared to perform the procedure even on women who do not have a fetus that will survive. Miscarriage occurs in 1 of 4 pregnancies. ONE in FOUR. I don’t know the stats on how many of those resolve naturally vs are a missed miscarriage.

The bisalp from my understanding is the standard procedure now versus just a tubal; which is good cause it’s better and helps prevent cancer (according to my surgeon that did mine)

The point was that if vasectomies were completely covered, it would encourage more to get them which would reduce the number of births and ultimately save the insurance company money. But 🤷🏻‍♂️
25
Oregon-Pilot May 1, 2026 +12
I hear lots of insurance will cover it. To get it undone, if that’s something one ever decides to do, is all out of pocket, costs somewhere near $20k I think, and is only successful about half the time.
12
Mrchristopherrr May 1, 2026 +25
I have pretty shitty insurance but I only had to do a $500 deposit that I got back after my appointment.

Dr. Fran keeps a list of doctors that will perform tubal without question. Way too many still require a man's or husband's consent. [https://www.pagingdrfran.com/resources](https://www.pagingdrfran.com/resources)

It's one thing to be pro-life, but making vasectomies difficult to get just creates more demand for abortion. Anyone who's anti-abortion should be pro-contraception.

Just imagine the furor that would erupt if they did the same thing to boner pills.

Vasectomy: Practically free. Tubal Ligation: $10,000 after a 30-day waiting period.

And in some places the doctor will illegally refuse without th concent of the husband. Or fight doing it because "you might change your mind later and want kids".

Remember when everyone warned that this exact scenario from Project 2025 would happen? And no one took it seriously. F*** everyone who voted for the pedophile fascist. 1/3 of eligible voters straight up didn't vote. I wonder how many of them are complaining now?
156
mangomypango May 2, 2026 +97
I got made fun of by some family members (the youngest was 27) for voting for a woman. None of them are even registered. And all of them are complaining about gas and other Trump-related issues. Same shit every time
97
Mean_Improvement_814 May 2, 2026 +60
More people didn’t vote than those who voted for Trump. If we count their non-votes in the total amount, they’re the largest group. 85 million people, what a disgrace.

The leading cause of death for children between 1 and 17 are firearms. 40% of SNAP benefits go to children. With new guidelines, it’s declined. More children are facing food insecurity. Today, both NC and CA had massive teacher strikes. They’re asking for better public school funding, or “ Kids over Corporations” Single mothers are routinely stigmatized. Blamed for society’s failings. We prevent abortions but 47 people (all in the South) were killed by the death penalty. It’s not about the sanctity of life, it’s about control.

As a Canadian in a border town, I will gladly welcome any American who is in need of a brief vacation to a country that doesn't impose draconian laws on the bodily autonomy of its citizens. You are welcome to stay with my family as long as you need. And we will assist you, without judgment, in finding whatever services you may need for your care.

Aware_Neighborhood63 May 2, 2026 +29
Women shouldn't have to pay a nickel of taxes anymore when this shit is going on. Why the hell are you paying taxes if your rights are not represented in any ways. Not even of bodily autonomy?!

Honest to God I dont understand men’s obsession with controlling women’s bodies, her body her choice like it’s literally that simple, hell I dont understand why men even have a say when it comes to laws governing women’s bodies in the first place

You're looking for the term "reactionary". https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reactionary > As an ideology, reactionism is a tradition in right-wing politics;[1] the reactionary stance opposes policies for the social transformation of society, whereas conservatives seek to preserve the socio-economic structure and order that exists in the present.[2] A conservative might turn reactionary, when prioritizing older traditions over recently accepted ones.[3] In popular usage, reactionary refers to a strong traditionalist conservative political perspective of a person opposed to social, political, or economic change.[4][5] In the 20th century, reactionary politics was associated with restoring values such as discipline, hierarchy and respect for authority and privilege.[1]

I have a guest room and will provide rides!!! New Jersey guarantees the fundamental right to reproductive autonomy, including abortion, contraception, and sterilization, under the 2022 Freedom of Reproductive Choice Act. Abortion is legal at all stages of pregnancy, with protections for residents and out-of-state patients, including shield laws against interstate prosecution.

"We don't believe in big government, it should be up to the states to decide!" - said every Republican And I say this as an Ohio resident, where they thought an 11 year old victim of CSA should be forced to carry the resulting incestuous pregnancy to term. There isn't a word in the English lexicon that appropriately describes how I feel about them all. So now we go back a century to dangerous back alley butchers, or a couple of centuries to kind midwives they branded as witches just trying to save women. The resulting deaths will coat their hands.

My wife took this pill for a miscarriage a couple weeks ago after having a “missed miscarriage”, which is essentially when a fetus stops developing but the body doesn’t recognize it. It can be risky and disruptive to let hope your body just recognizes it and walk around until you suddenly miscarry - and can cause infection and health issues. It can also delay recovery for weeks. Just in case anyone needs to know how this also just impacts healthcare for those trying to have kids. F****** dumb.

Second comment :  lmao our fuckin government can't stand no one wants to raise a child in this country because of how unfavorable it is to do so, that they're attempting to get rid of abortion medications instead of potentially making it favorable to raise a child...... I don't understand it.

Stuck on the argument they used - “Every abortion facilitated by FDA’s action cancels Louisiana’s ban on medical abortions and undermines its policy that ‘every unborn child is human being from the moment of conception and is, therefore, a legal person,’” the ruling states." Everyone who ever gets pregnant in LA better qualify for child support and WIC benefits that retroactively apply to the time before they found out they were pregnant.

Since when does the current Supreme Court care about what is and isn't Constitutional? The fact that it's a Christian nationalist power grab means they're almost certain to be complicit.

Wow so women are back to gin, hot baths, taking herbs of dubious origin , finding a backyard abortionist or throwing themselves down the stairs? I assume these state will, or already have made it illegal, to travel for the purposes of having an abortion. We already know about the shitty laws that put women who have a miscarrage, or stillbirth, at risk of criminal prosecution for any behaviour that some random legislator decided may be ",endangering the foetus"
