>“How many of you would like to see impeachment hearings?”
>The crowd erupted in cheers.
>“No,” Schlapp responded, shaking his head. “That was the wrong answer. Let me try it again. How many of you would like to see impeachment hearings?” he asked the crowd for a second time.
Trumpists are so entrenched in the mindset of being eternally oppressed by the government that even 15 months into this admin they still forget that they're now the ones wearing the boots on their own necks.

The bottom of the article is even funnier:
>In a separate instance Thursday, the crowd again did not know when or how to cheer. In a [conversation](https://www.rawstory.com/cpac-fails-to-boo-biden/) with White House border czar Tom Homan, CPAC host Melody Schlapp asked how Trump immigration policies compared to the “Biden years.”
>Waiting for a reaction, Schlapp paused and turned her head to the crowd. She was met with silence.
>“I’m not hearing a boo when I say Joe Biden, people! Come on! We do audience participation here!”

Ditto heads was not an insult. When people would call into the show they would always say the same thing "I love your show and have been listening for years." It got so repetitive that people just started saying "Ditto" and then ask their question, saving time.

I think the GP thought "ditto" was sourced from this printing press thing rather than the printing press being named after the term "ditto" which just means, more or less, "the same thing repeated", ie:
* Aldi is selling eggs for $1.70
* Walmart: Ditto
* Publix: $11.80
I seriously doubt Limbaugh or his listeners were referring to a printing press. It was common when I was growing up to hear something like one person saying "I love chocolate" and their friend responding "Ditto". Nobody I knew had heard of this printing press thingie.

Watch the video, he told them that was the wrong answer, he repeated the question and still got a considerable amount cheering for impeachment. Subsequent interviews of I attendees noted discontent with a new war in the middle east. The GOP base still identifies as GOP, but the war in Iran is definitely putting at least some of them off.
It's not necessarily enough to stop them from voting GOP, it's their "team", but it can change engagement, discourse, and momentum within a party.
70
WakingWaldoMar 28, 2026

Oh I definitely think the last year and a half will drastically decrease Republican turnout for the midterms. I do wonder, however, how many Republicans are "MAGA" (AKA Trump supporters) and how many are now in opposition to him while still being capital-C Conservatives.
Trump, I believe, usually shows up to CPAC but isn't this year. That may seem small to some people but to anyone paying attention you know that he loves a crowd cheering him on. It's possible that he got word that the CPAC crowd wasn't quite as hot for him as they were previously.
What I want to ask Republicans, MAGA and non-MAGA who still voted for Trump is, "is this the America you want? You've got control of all three branches of government and we've got high prices, a new war, no closure on Epstein, and now the Democrats are going to probably sweep the midterms. What about the last year has 'made America great?'"
I think a lot of them would lie and say they're content or give a lame answer like "there's more work to be done." But I also believe that *a lot* of Trump '24 voters have enough buyer's remorse to prevent them from voting this fall and take down the GOP merch from their yards.

I mean that's just crowdwork 101. *Everyone* does that. The MC comes out and says "who here wants to see ________?!" and everyone cheers. The band comes out and the frontman shouts "HELLO [CITY NAME]!" and everyone cheers. That's just the standard structure of this kind of event. It's so f****** weird to come out and announce yourself with a line you expect to get boos if you're not, like, a wrestling heel.

Yup, it's 100% that. In fact, I think even a crowd of, like, smart people *might* fall into the trap of cheering when a speaker says "Who here wants ___?" (But would be less likely to, I'll grant.)

>just being on autopilot and cheering for anything they hear
This is why dictators like rallies, you can appeal to the lowest common denominator in the crowd and say some populist phrase that they’ll cheer for. The rest of the crowd will hear a cheer do the same because they think it’s the appropriate response and suppress the part of them that’s thinking “why are we cheering for [impeachment of my god emperor / mass deportations / forced sterilizations / death of others]. They wouldn’t necessarily cheer for these things if they critically thought it through in their own home, but if you have a thousand people cheering around you, you cheer as well.
This was studied by a guy named Gustav Lebon in a book called [“the crowd: a study of the popular mind”](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Crowd:_A_Study_of_the_Popular_Mind), which influenced Hitler and others.

Disingenuous headline, but as usual - reality is damning enough without sensationalism.
The reality is, we got to see the perfect display of how MAGA is a literal cult. The speaker asked a question, people cheered (with a few boos) - he told them that wasn't the reaction he wanted, asked again and people boo'd (with a few cheers). No one had told them how to think yet, so they didn't know. This IS MAGA.
MAGA hated mask mandates and other COVID measures because Trump created COVID conspiracies to save capitalism from taking it on the chin at the expense of thousands of lives. However, in an alternate reality where Trump was pro-masking, and made a MAGA branded COVID mask with gold stitching that cost $60... the same people calling it fascism would be wearing them for facebook profile pictures. This is the MAGA cult.

I had someone trying to say that Trump didn’t close the straight of Hormuz a few days ago. Like he literally go there and flip the “open” sign to “closed” or something. I’m sure that’s what they were told was the truth and that it was all the Iranians fault. The logic that Trump started a war with them and this is the exact expected outcome was too far a bridge to cross for them. Also, it was Obamas fault somehow.
It’s surreal to interact with people who are so detached from reality and are under complete control by someone they’ve never met that cares nothi nh about them.

Its utterly terrifying. It sucks to live in a time where nearly 40% of the voting population of the country is unwittingly in a fascist cult.
The fascism aspect helps the cult mentality thrive too. Fascism is anti-intellectual and promotes machismo. No one can tell them they are wrong, and of they are caught being wrong the priority is to save face even at their own expense.

I think you could be right.
But in my head- it came across like when you were in elementary school and the principal is trying to be cool and get everyone pumped up and says “Good morning everyone!” And the response from the kids is “… good morning…” and then the principal is disappointed they aren’t excited so they are like “let’s try that again… Good Morning Everyone!!..” and then the kids have to cheer louder so the principal will just move on. It was kind of like that energy, they weren’t paying attention and thought they were supposed to cheer louder.

How is the headline “disingenuous?” How could you possibly make that headline more accurate without lengthening it to an entire compound sentence? The crowd did cheer for Trump impeachment. TL/DR: According to the article, **the crowd cheered for impeachment, twice, then didn't boo when Joe Biden was mentioned**, even after being reminded they're there for unquestioning R support. An attendee told the reporter that a lot of MAGA who loved Trump last year are questioning their vote.
So it may not be that they don't understand what they're cheering for (which seems to be the general consensus here), some of them may actually be coming around. Billionaire-centric policies are clearly not good for the average person, some may be realizing they were duped.
I f****** hope so

I think this is more the fact that MAGA crowds are primed to cheer for anything and aren’t actually internalizing the words being spoken, than them cheering for Trump’s impeachment.
They didn’t understand what they were cheering for because they never do. It’s all “call-and-response” Southern Baptist preaching.
The real idiot on the stage is the guy who evidently didn’t understand that dynamic when he started asking “no” questions to a crowd that does nothing but cheer “yes!”

Everyone's focused on the impeachment cheers, and fair enough. It's funny. But the part that actually matters is buried at the bottom of the article: Melody Schlapp asked the crowd to boo Biden and got silence.
Autopilot explains the cheering. People hear an enthusiastic call-and-response setup, they cheer. That's crowd psychology 101.
But failing to boo Biden on cue? That's a trained response that should fire automatically. These people have been booing Biden reflexively for years. If even that's not landing anymore, the conditioning is cracking.
Add in Trump skipping CPAC entirely this year, MSNBC reporting "a lot of empty space," and Bannon... **Steve Bannon** telling the crowd from the stage to "come to your own conclusion" and "weigh and measure the evidence." Hmm, sounds like damage control to a fracturing base.

Did they really cheer in large numbers or was a couple of folks? A lot of these *"Republicans are feeling the pressure"* *"Republicans turn away from blah blah" Republicans regret their vote*" articles feel like a deliberate attempt at placating the Left into feeling like you stand a chance at flipping and voting out the rot and trying to salvage what is left of the US. Like whenever people talk about the President's approval ratings lower than ever, meanwhile it's still at 38% or whatever is needed to make a significant dent in any potential voting trajectory. And lest we forget, voter apathy basically strangled your democracy.
If the people cheering are numbered in the hundreds of thousands (Magats/Trumpians) congratulations, making headway, if not, welp, might just be a nothing burger meant to trick you into thinking you just got something.
EDITED TO ADD: Just read the article. well it's worse right? sheeple

Voter apathy is only part of the problem in the US.
The corporate (billionaires, 1%) giants have made it so people can't leave work to go vote, can't get to a polling location if they don't own a car, long voting lines in strategic places, the blatant gerrymandering, and now ICE being possibly deployed to polling locations.
It's absurdly clear that Democracy has been stolen and sold for profit.
