curious

Posted by Riva_l33

I didn’t expect something as simple as posting to feel this intimidating 😅 It made me wonder do you remember the first time you posted something online? Were you nervous about how people would respond or am I just overthinking it?

You’re definitely not overthinking it 😄 posting for the first time feels weirdly intimidating. It’s like putting a small piece of yourself out there and waiting for reactions. But after a while, you realize most people are just scrolling and not judging as much as we think.

I’m trying to remind myself people are just scrolling and not analyzing every word I say lol

Neither-Employee6848 Apr 1, 2026 +1

I get this. I didn’t expect something as simple as posting to feel that intimidating either 😅 It makes me wonder how many people feel the same the first time they post something.

It feels like it shouldn’t be a big deal but somehow it is. I’m starting to think it’s more common than we realize

It was on UseNet in the 90s, but I don't remember any sort of anxiety about it.

scubajay2001 Apr 1, 2026 +1
Ahhh UseNet - those were the days lol

Riva_l33 Apr 1, 2026 +1
UseNet? I was born in the 90s so I have no idea what that was like. Was it similar to Listnook at all?

Text only (mainly). No voting. Pre-Eternal-September. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eternal\_September ) Actually, I was posting before then, on a MUD (Multi-User Dungeon) server at UofM in 1987 or 1988, now that I think about it.

Yes I Remember my first post very well. Yes I was nervous about. Today I check the videos I make watch them over a few times etc before I post them.
3
Riva_l33 Apr 1, 2026 +2
I feel that I already catch myself double checking things before posting too
2
Jetro-2023 Apr 1, 2026 +1
Totally understand. Why do we double check everything?
1
Riva_l33 Apr 1, 2026 +2
So we don’t make an ass out of ourselves 🤔
2
Jetro-2023 Apr 1, 2026 +1
That’s a good reason or get criticism on why did you leave words out or misspell them right? 😉😉😉
1
Riva_l33 Apr 1, 2026 +1
Lol yes that was going to be my next answer
1
Jetro-2023 Apr 1, 2026 +1
Yes indeed. We definitely don’t want too feel the craziness from others. All great points. 😀

Jetro-2023 Apr 1, 2026 +1
One more thing even when I post today especially the business posts I always feel like I need someone else’s eyes to look at to ensure I didn’t miss anything lol
1
Riva_l33 Apr 1, 2026 +1
Omg yes I’m the same way lol I try not to second guess myself but it’s a bad habit

scubajay2001 Apr 1, 2026 +3
My first "post" online was via Telnet to a mosaic chat room called Cirrus Nebula. I said "hi" lol
3
Riva_l33 Apr 1, 2026 +1
How was it?
1
scubajay2001 Apr 1, 2026 +1
Meh by today's standards of vernacular. Got my first snog a day or two later lol

Glass-Medicine8609 Apr 1, 2026 +2
I feel way a lot, actually. I’m trying to break out of it
2
Riva_l33 Apr 1, 2026 +1
I would like to break out of it. How’s that working for you?
1
Glass-Medicine8609 Apr 1, 2026 +1
I’m starting small by making comments like this sometimes. Hoping I can get rid of the “stage fright” by talking online more; I feel hopeful about it!

It was probably a blog back in the early 2000s. It was anonymous and the Internet felt less dangerous and more innocent then. At least to my early 20s self, so I didn't think all that much about it.
2
scubajay2001 Apr 1, 2026 +1
20s in the 2000s - dang I feel old
1
heatherbythesea Apr 1, 2026 +1
Well, yeah... I was 20 in 2004
1
scubajay2001 Apr 1, 2026 +1
So 42 now? That's not so bad... *redoing my math* Yeah not that much older lol
1
heatherbythesea Apr 1, 2026 +1
Well, I'll be 42 in the summer (maybe the math needs to be redone again :) )
1
scubajay2001 Apr 1, 2026 +2
Whatchoo talkin' 'bout?! lol (fixed)
2
Riva_l33 Apr 1, 2026 +1
Yeah internet definitely seems a lot more intense these days 😳

Feeling-Response8810 Apr 1, 2026 +2
This is how i feel posting on instagram. Even though it hasn't been my first time lmfao
2
Riva_l33 Apr 1, 2026 +1
So it never goes away…noted 😂
1
Feeling-Response8810 Apr 1, 2026 +1
Nope. I posted on facebook stories the other day for the first time in forever & same thing goes with that lol

I definitely understand what you mean I remember the first time I posted online I didn’t have a thought in the world honestly, I just thought I made a fun video and wanted to post it, but I also remember when I first started posting on my Instagram people made a group chat and we’re making fun of me and stuff and I think after that that’s when I started to feel differently about myself as a young teen but now I’m 27 and a lot of that has still stuck with me, but it’s gotten a lot better😭
2
Riva_l33 Apr 1, 2026 +1
That sucks I’m sorry that happened to you that kind of experience can definitely stick with you. It makes sense it would shape how you feel about posting later on glad to know it’s gotten easier for you though

I guess it can naturally make sense to (perhaps subconsciously) want your first post/comment to seem like a "succesful debut", but then, the possible anxiety of this can be eased somewhat by realizing that, because of internet anonymity, no one can really tell if this is your actual first online post ever, or just *a* first post from your yet another account.
2
Riva_l33 Apr 1, 2026 +2
So true thanks for the insight

WhyGirlsPreddy Apr 1, 2026 +2
I was a -post dramatic lyrics on messenger- kid so I have no shame. But I don't think that feeling concerned or anxious is wrong it's like... Humans are social. I groups = survival and all that.

tryin_to_chill Apr 1, 2026 +2
There are so many messages getting sent on here at any point in time. Its hard to catch up with the replies. I'm talking to 8 people at any point in time. That's posts, replies and chat.

life-builder-today Apr 1, 2026 +2
always.. but yeah i always say this to myself, people will always have something to say/comment so might as well do/say i want but i make sure to practice self awareness

I use to get bad anxiety over anything I would post but years later now and it doesn’t feel so bad anymore.

panaceaXgrace Apr 1, 2026 +2
No it was really so many years ago It was AOL and likely in a chat, quite possibly in a local chat. I DO know the very first thing I looked up. It was 1996, Christmas. I had come to visit my brother and he showed me his brand new PC. What I looked up was "cheese". I was so impressed by the hundreds of results I got. History of cheese, recipes with cheese, stories about cheese. Pictures about cheese. It was just the first word that popped in to my head when my brother said I could look up anything in the world and learn more about it. I remember about 10 years later I looked it up again and there were millions of results. Now Google doesn't even tell you how many, but the top one after Wikipedia is places you can buy cheese.

When I haven’t posted on instagram in a while, before I post I be putting teasers on my story like I’m finna drop a movie. Take the power away little by little

Top_Difference3488 Apr 1, 2026 +2
I definitely felt nervous. Like do I belong will these people except me or chew me out. Now I don't care
2
Riva_l33 Apr 1, 2026 +1
That’s how I feel I might need to get like you lol
1
Ledophile Apr 1, 2026 +2
I don’t get anxious posting but I do get anxious when the hater’s come out of the woodwork and try to tell me I’m: wrong, ignorant or an idiot…..
2
Riva_l33 Apr 1, 2026 +1
And that’s what makes me a little nervous

SinghAwayLion Apr 1, 2026 +2
Don't allow others people opinions to control your emotions. Yes I it's easy to say but if you think of it, you will start to express
2
SinghAwayLion Apr 1, 2026 +2
Most humans are prisoners to their thoughts because of other people.
2
Riva_l33 Apr 1, 2026 +1
Yeah I definitely see some truth in that
1
SinghAwayLion Apr 1, 2026 +1
Express yourself don't live in the world of control
1
Riva_l33 Apr 1, 2026 +1
easier said than done 😩
