> Singer D4vd has been arrested in connection with the death of Celeste Rivas Hernandez, who was found dead in Hollywood in the trunk of a Tesla in September. > According to the LAPD, D4vd, whose real name is David Anthony Burke, was arrested by the Robbery-Homicide Division for the murder of Hernandez and is being held without bail. The case will be presented to the District Attorney’s office on Monday for filing consideration.

Not a lot of robberies getting solved when the competing priority is murder

I understand that they wanted to build a solid case and that’s why it took so long, but man I really wonder what these past months have been like for him just sort of waiting to be arrested.

gentlewesternwind 2 days ago +23
Yeah, like I don't feign to know the schematics of prosecuting someone, and this was obscene from the beginning. I hope Celeste's soul can rest. That poor child.

Honestly, I expected him to kill himself over it, but ... apparently not.

I imagine it could’ve been easy enough for him to leave the country. Which leads me to wonder how often these sorts of villains simply escape prosecution. We obviously know about folks like Roman Polanski. But I’d never even heard of D4vd before hearing of the girl’s body being found in his car.

I just said ts out loud. It kind of makes you wonder just how inept the f****** cops really are when tik tok’ers are picking ts apart quicker than law enforcement. Keep downvoting me. But you know god damn well it’s the truth. Any news on Tyler Robinson yet and the shit show they’ve thrown at us?

Impressive_Dish9531 2 days ago +33
Tik Tok’ers don’t have to present a bulletproof case to the DA of the most high profile county in the country and then convince a jury *beyond a shadow of doubt* that he is dead-to-rights guilty, all while navigating lord knows how much bureaucratic red tape and making absolutely certain no tiny crack could derail the whole case.

True. Very true. But like half a year to bust a dude that had a dead minor in his trunk, and was clearly having a relationship with this girl. I mean, unless this dude is a criminal mastermind. The wheels of justice moved reeeeal slow on a guy that seemed dead to rights. But like I said, maybe he was a mastermind.

i feel like you’re underestimating how much evidence is needed during a trial
14
More_Combination86 2 days ago -7
Sure, in some cases things don’t always move lightening speed. But Honestly, it’s been like 6 or 7 months after we found out just these facts; She was deceased in his car trunk and they were in a relationship while she was a minor. I mean, was he so slick with the law that they knew it was him but just couldn’t touch him? Doesn’t strike me as a super criminal that could be that untraceable. But damn. Just wild it took this long.

Consider all the connective tissue needed to legitimately prove - like with ironclad proof - that someone intentionally murdered a person, dismembered them, put them in their trunk, then left the car somewhere. It seems obvious that he was involved, but where is the actual undeniable proof that he murdered her? Not internet rumors or heavy suspicions; actual proof that a jury can’t refute. And how was she murdered? And why? Etc. Just getting cellphone records takes weeks. They must’ve run multiple tests on the severely decomposed body remnants - autopsy, toxicology, etc. - which takes available experts and time. Half a year to get everything lined up to unequivocally prove this is the guy doesn’t seem unreasonable to me.

they wanted to create a solid case that wouldn't get derailed at trial. or to make a strong enough case that he just admits to it and avoids a trial.

greenappleeeeeee 2 days ago +132
Heavy on this. People don’t realize how easy it is to get a case thrown out. Something as simple as a technicality could grant him permanent release
132
kosmonautinVT 2 days ago +12
Yeah but let's be real. I'm pretty sure if a dead body was found in the trunk of a car registered to me I would be arrested within days. And it isn't like this guy was some big celebrity.
12
AnyDescription3293 2 days ago +23
Gotta prove the person's death was a murder. On a heavily decomposed body that is not easy.
23
Connbonnjovi 2 days ago -4
Okay but she was dismembered.
-4
AnyDescription3293 2 days ago +39
I don't want to defend this guy at all. I definitely think he did it. But let's say..... She's doing some drugs at a party with him. She ODs at his house. When she dies, he freaks out cause he doesn't want to get in trouble for doing drugs with an underage child, and so he tries to get rid of her body by dismembering it and dumping it in his car. That's not the same as actively murdering her, which yes I think he did. the cops want to prove she was actually intentionally murdered, not by some accidental way that the defense attorney is going to try to claim happened.
39
Connbonnjovi 2 days ago +15
Okay that’s fair

It took so long because his family, friends, and team were prolonging the process by refusing to talk or make any comments in case it could be used against him. They’ve probably known for a long time that it’s him but that’s not enough for an arrest.
16
ai_art_is_art 2 days ago +8
\> And it isn't like this guy was some big celebrity. He made that one TikTok song. Micro-celebrity with growing status. Probably would have made it big by now if he hadn't done this. I would wonder that if (1) because she was underage and (2) she possibly became pregnant with his kid and (3) she didn't want an abortion, that he became violent. There's no publicly announced proof that she was pregnant. Might not be the case. But if it was, they could have used this time to look for additional DNA to build the case. If she was pregnant, the number of murders jumps to two and the case becomes that much stronger. No matter what happened, it's really sad for her and fucked up that it happened.

He was supposed to play the LA Greek a week or so after the body was discovered. The Greek is not a small venue. This guy had a following for sure.
3
Hydration__Nation 2 days ago +1
Yup that’s why you will see a prosecutor push for a lesser charge like murder 2 instead of murder 1 because their case isn’t strong enough to guarantee m1 so getting convictions and some time is better than none at all

Also, part of the reason to arrest someone quickly is to prevent it from happening again. I'm sure they were keeping a close eye on him. And he likely did it alone, so they didn't need to arrest him and pressure him to turn on his accomplice to get a killer off of the street.

I think people have a dramatically exaggerated idea of how this stuff works.
6
Paleblood_Hunt 2 days ago +3
Most people have a realistic view of the world in that they wouldn’t be referred to by the media as their AOL screen name like “DaFOURvid” and also probably wouldn’t be able to spend months free after having the f****** body of a dead person in their car.

ogredmenace 2 days ago -1
I mean she was chopped up in his car. Isn’t that a solid case already lol
-1
MARATXXX 2 days ago +34
no, because the body was discovered like a year after her disappearance. so that opens up a lot of possibilities that have to be fully explored, refuted or confirmed.
34

Impressive_Dish9531 2 days ago +17
I’m proud of you for receiving new information and actually adjusting your stance accordingly. Truly, that’s not easy to do.  So many people who have no clue are questioning everything about this case. People need to have some humility and realize they don’t know everything.

Not enough. He could claim someone placed the body there. He could claim that there was tampering with evidence and that he was framed. Etc. Etc. Investigators need a lot of evidence to accuse someone of murder in a case like this. And if they don't handle it properly, the whole case could go right out the window. Look at OJ for example

1
reppit 2 days ago +23
Homicides that aren’t smoking gun type ones take time. Interviews, collect cell data/tower dumps, surveillance videos, random roadblocks either from judges or the district attorney’s office, etc. There are plenty of cold case homicides all over the country where everyone is probably having the same thoughts you’re having, but there may not have been enough probable cause for an arrest. Circumstantial evidence only supports a case, but it doesn’t make a conviction.
23
Dewgong_crying 2 days ago +31
Article says he was fully cooperating from September to November, so maybe he was able to bullshit them long enough to not arrest him then? Maybe he had reported the car stolen? Still sus as hell, so assume it will take a while to get the full story.
31
Violet624 2 days ago +7
I'm sure they wanted to make sure they had a solid case. With no obvious cause of death, he could have said she overdosed or something and he only concealed her body. You can only try someone once for homicide, after all.
7
guiltyspaekle 2 days ago
He only concealed her body? She was found dismembered and rotting in 3 different garbage bags
0
Violet624 2 days ago +6
That still doesn't neccisarily mean a homicide charge if they don't have evidence of her manner of death. I'm not defending him, I'm sure he's responsible, but it's understandable that the prosecutors would want to build as solid a case as possible.

Her body was heavily decomposed when they found it, so they had to prove her death was the result of a murder, which I'm sure is very difficult to do with a heavily decomposed body.

IcedThunder 2 days ago +32
From what I recall, he was away on tour for the majority of the period the coroner said she likely died, there was like less than 48 hour window he could have done it, but he would have to have taken a plane, which would mean a paper trail. So it was difficult to pin to him, because they couldn't find any flight records or anything. But I haven't kept up with it. Edit: Why am I being downvote? I'm just saying his tour schedule made it difficult for police to tie the murder to him. I'm not defending the guy, but my money is he paid someone to do it.

Nervous-Economy8119 2 days ago +8
“I need you to kill someone while I’m away so it can’t be traced to me.” “What should I do with the body? “Just put it in my trunk.”
8
IcedThunder 2 days ago +4
I don't know, maybe he wanted the drama of it while enjoying getting away with it. I'm just saying, when this came out I followed the threads of people piecing together his social media posts and tour dates and confirming where he was and when, and it left a very small window of when he could have done it, and there would be flight logs, airport cameras, etc. So if all that sluething was true, which it seemed legit people used photos from his concerts to verify where he was before the murder and it was over 600 miles from his home, then if he's connected it has to have been someone he hired.
4
NYCtattooed 2 days ago +6
They believe happened in the spring, months before the tour. The body was severely decomposed and they were not able to determine cause of death which prolonged this arrest.

Because we know nothing , we are making really plausible assumptions. They have to prove without a shadow of a doubt that he is guilty.  If i was accused of a crime i would want them to take their time, not just say "hey we know you're guilty come oooonnnn", plus if they half ass it he can get out of a punishment vy a technicality.
