Over a million Russians have been lost, wounded or killed in this "special military operation" that was supposed to last a week. Trump is so jealous.

Trump won’t be happy until genocides are measured in % of trumps rather than % of holocausts.

US-Israel screwing up gulf oil supply. UK-EU screwing up Russian oil supply. The whole wide world inching closer and closer towards global recession, while the western governments play their power games. Adults have left the building.

The US definitely fucked up by attacking Iran and should be shamed mercilessly for what they are doing to the global economy, but Ukraine has every right to inflict counter pain on their invader. If their best leverage is against Russia’s finances, then that’s what they have to do to survive. Saying this is purely a problem with “the Western governments” is complete bullshit. It’s a problem with global imperialist governments attempting to subjugate smaller nations in an era of global trade and cooperation. The world really needs to wake up and rapidly diversify into local renewable energy sources that are resilient to the supply chain disruptions caused by these psychopaths.

US-Israel fucked up the oil supply from GCC for sure. UK-EU fucked it further by destroying oil infra in Russia knowing perfectly well about the situation in strait of Hormuz. What a dumb move to aggravate an already strained supply chain. Couldn't wait a few weeks for the situation to ease? Also, Countries can't "rapidly" diversify into local alternative energy sources overnight. It's takes years to transition. That's why we have the Paris agreements. Now even EU countries are reluctantly looking at coal for energy to cover the gap in oil and gas supply. Please don't conflate the two issues.

The two issues are intrinsically linked. Countries who invest in energy diversification sooner are poised to be much more resilient to these types of belligerences. There’s nothing about the Paris accords that prevents nations from expediting their transitions. Those that are ahead of schedule are going to come out less scathed than those sitting on their laurels. In regard to Ukraine, they have been attacking Russian petro-infrastructure for years now and it was not crippling the world’s economies, only Russia’s. You would ask them to stop now, and allow their invader to refill their war chest, because it’s inconvenient to the global economy? They are in a fight for their very existence. This entire current situation is the fault of US-Israel and Russia, not Iran or Ukraine

You don't seem to have an understanding about the energy economics of developing countries especially the south east asian countries. Meanwhile Iran's nuclear energy program is being destroyed simultaneously. Such tunnel vision. Much wow.

You seem to be an all or nothing type of person. Obviously not every country is poised to be on equal footing and nothing I said suggests as much.

You seem to be a "Let them eat cake" type of person.

Really? Because of what? Because I said Ukraine is not the problem in this situation? Because I said countries would be smart to try to transition to renewables as soon as possible? Give me a break.

how can you blame anything on the EU and UK? the only nation responsible for the war in Ukraine is russia.

Perfect, just what we need, even less oil.

the-es Mar 29, 2026 +35
Amusingly, that is something we need less of.

Yeah, but we need to reduce the demand, not the supply.

TheAngryGoat Mar 29, 2026 +19
Reducing the supply is in the long term a hugely effective way of reducing demand. Either way, zero demand should be allowed to be supplied from russia.

\> Reducing the supply is in the long term a hugely effective way of reducing demand. Agree. But if the supply is so severely constrained before society can adapt, this is going to wreck developing nations and the poor folks even in developed nations. If there is a lack of fuel to farm and ship food, and a lack of fertilizer to even grow it, people are undoubtedly going to suffer greatly. It's easy for us in richer countries to say we must do what we can to reduce demand, and to sanction X, Y, and Z country. \> Either way, zero demand should be allowed to be supplied from russia. Why? I think countries should and will prioritize survival over anything else. Besides, Russia is the big bad and US-Israel isn't?

BudgetMegaHeracross Mar 29, 2026 +2
At least, it certainly defeats the purpose if the supply is still turned into CO2
2
fixminer Mar 29, 2026 +1
I mean, obviously we shouldn't and wouldn't keep pumping oil if nobody wants it. My point is that restricting the supply might have a similar climate impact, but it comes at the cost of a major global economic crisis. It's like starving yourself instead of changing your eating habits. Effective but not healthy.

MildlySaltedTaterTot Mar 29, 2026 +2
not healthy but necessary. If a body keeps gorging itself past the point of disorder and recognition, then removing that source of self-squalor will be the best kick in the ass to replace it.

Finally someone talking sense. US-Israel screwing up gulf oil supply. UK-EU screwing up Russian oil supply. The whole wide world inching closer and closer towards global recession, while the western governments play their power games.

Hellstorm901 Mar 29, 2026 +1
Ukraine very much is reducing the demand, less Russians means less people using oil

youreloser Mar 29, 2026
Yeah that feels ironic. Unfortunately we have not transitioned away from it yet, so life is going to get expensive for everyone, many countries could grind to a halt because they import all their oil, and there may be famine because fertilizer is derived from oil.
