Man, thank God Dexter is back and making money. They’re buying a crazy talented cast

JamStan1978 Apr 14, 2026 +88
Paramount better not cancel it due to the merger like they did with Original Sin!

You watch your mouth!

He is the Bay harbor butcher

bloodyturtle Apr 14, 2026 +35
It’s probably their most successful show on streaming outside whatever kid cartoons they have
35
CrashRiot Apr 14, 2026 +13
Nah that would almost certainly be the Sheridan shows, even with Yellowstone done.
13
TheWholeOfTheAss Apr 14, 2026 +3
Sheridan is on the way out. Maybe his exit will force them to reinvest in the Dexterverse?

Name 5 good things about landman
3
reddit809 Apr 14, 2026
It's fun. BBT is really good in it. Demi Moore is really good in it. Andy Garcia is really good in it. Sheridan hasn't shoehorned himself into it yet.

zacksharpe Apr 14, 2026 +3
I’m not some Dexter expert, but didn’t Original Sin have a pretty definitive ending?
3
JamStan1978 Apr 14, 2026 +35
It was an open ended. It works really well as an ending but i always felt like the natural ending point for this show would be Harry's death.
35
BayHarborButcher10 Apr 14, 2026 +9
I mean it was definitive enough to not NEED another but like OP said, addressing Harry’s death would be ideal. But the show in canon happened from Dexter’s “life flashing before his eyes” so it’d be odd to just jump into a new season
9
Iggy_Pops_Lost_Shirt Apr 14, 2026 +4
They left a bunch of things to explore (especially with young Brian). Even if the ending works fine as a series finale it foesn't change the fact that it was greenlit for a second season before getting cancelled lol.
4
Dead_man_posting Apr 14, 2026 +5
SMG's character was surely building up to *something*
5
ToneBone12345 Apr 14, 2026 +3
I mean my theory is because he literally says in the narration of the original series that Doakes is the only one who senses something off about him not the first but only I honestly felt that he meant at that time meaning maybe someone knew something was off about him before so that would have been Sarah’s character considering she was a forensics expert
3
Calm-Maintenance-878 Apr 14, 2026 -5
No, it even was renewed before it was then canceled. I finished s1 very ready for s2. In protest…I’m not bothering with Resurrection😒
-5
Heavy-Difficulty6522 Apr 14, 2026 +11
It’s a mistake - resurrection is top quality tv - Peter Dinklage, and many other awesome cameos
11
Calm-Maintenance-878 Apr 14, 2026 +1
I have no opinions on Resurrection, maybe I’ll tune in one day. The cancelation made me lose interest is all, so I’m not making a mistake. I don’t want to watch it lol

Heavy-Difficulty6522 Apr 14, 2026 +6
It’s a mistake bro 😎- it’s ok to admit it. Dexter will come for you in your dreams…..
6
Calm-Maintenance-878 Apr 14, 2026 +2
It’ll be there if I decide to tune in, I never said I wouldn’t watch it, just that I’m not interested for now.
2
reddit809 Apr 14, 2026 +5
You're missing out. Seriously.
5
bristow84 Apr 14, 2026 -3
Wasn't part of the reason Original Sin got cancelled was because it wasn't getting the viewers they wanted? Resurrection so far doesn't seem to have that problem.
-3
JamStan1978 Apr 14, 2026 +22
It was the most-streamed Showtime show of all time before *Resurrection*, so it would be reduced to the second most-streamed Showtime show. I don’t get why they couldn’t do both. The Paramount CEO before the Skydance merger was a big *Dexter* fan and wanted to create a lot more *Dexter* content. When the merger happened, he left, and they canceled *Original Sin* months after it had already been renewed. The new owners don’t seem to have a fondness for *Dexter*, so that’s why I’m always a bit worried about *Resurrection*.
22
TheLaughingMannofRed Apr 14, 2026 +9
We likely won't know the truth for a long while. NDAs and all. Frankly, Original Sin could have kept the Dexter fanbase supplemented and growing while Resurrection was in the works for more. Space them out to different times of the year so they won't compete at the same time. It'll be interesting to see what the truth of the matter is down the line. But frankly, between the two shows, I am glad Resurrection is carrying on for now. But with this merger upcoming, I am worried on how long it will last. They are going to need profitable IPs, and Dexter is one of them right now.
9
bristow84 Apr 14, 2026 +3
Ah well I was unaware that it was so widely streamed so yeah it doesn't really make sense why it got cancelled. Agreed though, Resurrection is such a good watch (so far at least) that I hope it keeps going until they've told the story they want to.
3
firelights Apr 14, 2026 +1
I thought I remember the reasoning being that they didn’t want to confuse the audience with 2 Dexter shows running at the same time. I guess they figured it could cause confusion/problems down the line? But you’d think if Original Sin was making money they would’ve kept it going. Especially because it was already renewed.
1
styln55 Apr 14, 2026 +1
Probably low views but I also remember seeing something that they didn't want to compete with themselves deciding to focus on new dexter.
1
HurleysBadLuck Apr 14, 2026 -2
Original sin kinda sucked…Deb was super annoying.
-2
BayHarborButcher10 Apr 14, 2026 +13
And Resurrection was absolutely spectacular. The best new series of 2025
13
Mother_Ad_3561 Apr 14, 2026 +2
It was top 5 show of 2025 for me overall
2
illuminatiisnowhere Apr 14, 2026 +1
It was amazing yea!
1
Pale_Possibility5083 Apr 14, 2026 +7
This last season of Dexter has been like my happy place. I loved the show for so long and after new blood or whatever I was so said how it all came to end. Never could imagine we’d be back.
7
PogoLlama72 Apr 14, 2026 +2
At this point the show’s turning into Prestige Serial Killer All-Stars. Now they just need to splurge on one really sharp writers’ room to match the cast.
2
TheKocsis Apr 14, 2026 +1
It will be a privilige to end up on Dexter's bench
1
OriginalNord Apr 14, 2026 -5
Yeah thank god the studios are making even more money I was worried there for a second
-5
JamStan1978 Apr 14, 2026 +5
I don't care about the studios, i care very much about Dexter.
5
Mother_Ad_3561 Apr 14, 2026
Don’t give a f*** about the studios, but Dexter would be totally dead to rights if it weren’t profitable
0
hitalec Apr 14, 2026 +224
I’ve never cared about Dexter but goddammit Dan Stevens as a serial killer is an all-timer
224
TostitoNipples Apr 14, 2026 +87
Dan Stevens’ presence enhances anything. I thought the movie Cuckoo was just okay but him hamming it up with his weird little German accent made the film for me.
87
hitalec Apr 14, 2026 +16
You’re right — it has a few great moments but it was a let down. Hunter Schafer and Dan did great, but it needed a couple more inventive sequences to pace out the experience.
16
TostitoNipples Apr 14, 2026 +4
Yeah I just felt like the “monster” itself was a letdown. Not scary or standout enough to really be distinct
4
Reggaeton_Historian Apr 14, 2026 +5
Even when he was doing his best Ace Ventura impression the Monsterverse - I loved it.
5
Landlord-Allmighty Apr 14, 2026 +34
Watch the Guest. He's incredible in it.
34
hitalec Apr 14, 2026 +23
Oh. I love the Guest — I own the (ridiculous) soundtrack for the Guest 2 that was released in collaboration with the director and artist who worked on the first one. Fun fact, Adam Wingard is working on a spiritual sequel to the Guest for A24 right now. And yes, it stars Dan Stevens, but now in a mad scientist role rather than, well, what he was in the Guest ;) It’s called [Onslaught](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Onslaught_(film))
23
Landlord-Allmighty Apr 14, 2026 +8
That soundtrack is stupendous. It was a bummer Wingard got off track with Death Note and I think the Godzilla stuff was a little beneath him. It's encouraging that he's moving back in this direction.
8
hitalec Apr 14, 2026 +3
I see Godzilla as him taking his licks to make something special again. The ol quid pro quo with the entertainment industry. Really liked You’re Next and the Guest so I’m hoping for a return to form!
3
AddisonsContracture Apr 14, 2026 +11
He’s my vote for the next James Bond
11
NeoNoireWerewolf Apr 14, 2026 +8
He would have been a great choice ten years ago, but he’s going to be forty-four this year, he’s too old to pick up the part now and carry the role for fifteen-plus years. Based on the way the part is typically cast, I’d say he’s too famous for it, too. Although, who knows how they will cast with Amazon running things instead of Eon now. They may want somebody who is already a star. Denis Villenueve is directing the next one, though, and he seems like the type of person who would want to honor the Bond tradition of getting a lesser-known actor for the part instead of going with a known performer.
8
BlackSpinedPlinketto Apr 14, 2026 +6
James Bonds have been a lot older than 44 plus ten lol
6
NeoNoireWerewolf Apr 14, 2026 +3
Sure, but those were all thirty years ago. Standards for an action star have changed dramatically. Daniel Craig’s issue with the part after Quantum of Solace was how brutal the physicality he was required to have was into his forties. Even without that factored in, by the time the next Bond releases, Stevens will be older than the oldest Bond in their first film, which was Roger Moore at 46. And even back then, Moore was a puzzling choice because he was older than Connery and much older than George Lazenby, who had already inherited the role from Connery. If you look at the ages of all Bonds when they were cast, all were in their thirties with the exception of Moore and Brosnan, and Brosnan was forty exactly, not to mention he would have been Bond in his mid-thirties if Remington Steele wasn’t renewed and he was able to accept the role the first time it was offered. Amazon would be idiots to cast somebody who isn’t in their thirties to lead the franchise for a decade or more. Moore is the outlier in the franchise for being well above forty when taking on the part.
3
Toomb8 Apr 14, 2026 -1
Who wants that tho today?
-1
gotthelowdown Apr 14, 2026 +4
The closest we'll get for now is his narration of an audiobook: [C***** Royale by Ian Fleming Read by Dan Stevens | FULL AUDIOBOOK](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y39-IsATsp8) Fun fact: this was part of a series called [*007 Reloaded*](https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLvdaeQbylM7tWZp3dUrXxNGG1AvsLMiPn) by BBC Four. Where English actors narrated James Bond novels. If you've ever wanted a Dr. Who (David Tennant) or Loki (Tom Hiddleston) or others to be James Bond, these are a fun listen.
4
Mother_Ad_3561 Apr 14, 2026 +28
He’d be my second choice to play Dexter after watching him in Legion
28
caspy7 Apr 15, 2026 +2
I've only seen him in Legion and he was excellent.
2
PayneTrain181999 Apr 14, 2026 +5
It takes a lot of talent to be an entertaining human character in a Monsterverse movie, and Dan Stevens managed to do it.
5
BoxOfNothing Apr 14, 2026 +5
I thought most of the first few seasons were pretty good, but never got that into it and dropped it during season 5. Then saw some opinions on Dexter Resurrection that got me interested. Read a synopsis on everything I missed so I knew what was going on and gave it a shot, and f*** me Dexter Resurrection was so good. Honestly think it's worth watching even if you just read up on the information you *have* to know before diving in.
5
mushmushi92 Apr 14, 2026 +3

>Stevens will play Owen Stark, the Five Borough Killer, and the second big bad of Season 2. Owen is a serial killer who, much like Zodiac, taunts the police with phone calls threatening the murder of innocent citizens. When he follows through with the awful deeds…the City and the Police are terrorized.
86
PlainSightMan Apr 14, 2026 +43
Prediction: Owen is the son of The New York Ripper secretly as it mirrors Dexter and Harrison.
43
MakingaJessinmyPants Apr 14, 2026 +7
Fire idea
7
SlowCrates Apr 14, 2026 +6
That was the first thing I thought of. Almost like these were the two characters they were most focused on. Father and son versus father and son. It would be even more wild if they threw another layer of irony into it. Dexter, on the "good team", needs to align with "bad people" (like Charlie) to work out a system, while the "bad team" (Ripper and his son) are aligned with the "good team" (law enforcement). That would put Dexter and Harrison in such a tight space. The drama writes itself.

Oh, okay, so will it turn out then that the Five Borough Killer was the one calling the family members of victims of other serial killers like the New York Ripper?

I was worried about that too for the same reasons and was hesitant to start, but it was actually really freakin good.
13

I'll watch anything with Kristin Ritter
3
bristow84 Apr 14, 2026 +21
It's honestly extremely good, feels like old school Dexter before Scott Buck came in.
21
JamStan1978 Apr 14, 2026 +8
Scott Buck is actually a good writer but a bad showrunner. I think he started working on Dexter during Season 2 of the original series. He also wrote the second episode of resurrection season 1! So him in the writers room is good, him being in charge is bad.
8
Iggy_Pops_Lost_Shirt Apr 14, 2026 +3
He was also heavily involved with Six Feet Under, dude's talented but yeah, showrunning isn't for him
3
BoxOfNothing Apr 14, 2026 +2
Just personal opinion but the only season that even comes close that I've seen is season 4. I dropped it during 5, but Dexter Resurrection is top drawer. I don't have the nostalgia factor of having watched the original run when it came out though
2
Hermiona1 Apr 14, 2026 +3
If you haven't seen New Blood start with that. I thought it was extremely good and Resurrections was even better follow up.

Skipped New Blood and went to Resurrection. The opening sequence recaps it fairly well. Far from essential viewing, thankfully, since it seemed kinda dumb.

Dan stevens is amongst a handful of actors that will make me watch something without any other considerations. Plot? Don’t care, other cast members ? Whatever. If he’s in it I’m watching it.

I've never watched Dexter but I want to give it a go now because of all the great things I've heard about Resurrection. I only have like 9 seasons or something to get there? Quite the commitment.
1
schwiftybass Apr 14, 2026 +2
You can watch Resurrection without watching all of the original series. I would just watch the first 5 seasons & see if you feel like continuing after that. You’d be fine just watching or reading a recap for the later seasons if you don’t want to commit that much time.
2
RealJohnGillman Apr 14, 2026 +1
Eleven technically. Eight seasons of *Dexter*, one of *Dexter: New Blood*, one of *Dexter: Original Sin*, and one (so-far) of *Dexter: Resurrection*. In that order. They’re well worth the watch.
