Decided to watch Thanksgiving (2023) for a laugh on Netflix, found out half way through its censored...

Posted by BeardoftheManwhore

We were looking for a dumb movie to watch late last night, so we picked Thanksgiving, knowing nothing about it, other than its a dumb gore flick. As usual there are the dumb deaths that happen, but for anyone else who has watched the film, when we got the table saw death scene, it was completely cut out, a jarring hard cut, and its over. I had to look it up on Youtube to see if that's actually what was supposed to happen. No where on Netflix does it say it's censored? And I cant see anything online about it being censored? I'm in Australia btw.

Taiwan here. Anyone watch Dodgeball on Netflix? I swear they cut out that scene where the plus-sized cheerleader lands on Justin Long's face during tryouts.

Might be a regional thing. I've also watched it on Netflix a while ago and it was definitely the uncensored version.

Same here. Both in Germany and France it was uncut.

Studios provide different versions for different regions, based on local laws and ratings systems. I've spent many years tracking down rare films often found in unexpected places.

Looks like in general things are more censored on Netflix in Australia, I have no clue how and when but that is what Google says.

It's pretty common in Australia, I just think us Aussie's aren't aware of it. Free-to-air tv was showing The Wicker Man with Nicholas Cage in like 2020 and the entire scene with the bees was cut out, I remember because I was very excited to finally see that very memed scene where he shouts about the bees.

Netflix censored 28 Years Later's Alpha's dingdong and cut the birth scene.

waaaht, we watched that the other day also, and the birth scene and dingdong were in full swing.

I guess it depends on region or country. I am from S.E. Asia, anyway.

Wait, do you have to pay for Netflix's top ad-free tier in order to see a large sorta s*** zombie hang dong? We have truly strayed too far from the path once promised.

We are not from U.S. We don't have ad-tier Netflix in S.E. Asia, yet.

Streaming services don’t always tell you when you’re watching an edited version, which is super annoying.

Does anyone know if this has anything to do with the age verification stuff? I’m also in Australia and this pisses me off.

I mean years and years ago we were getting censored Left4Dead because of the gore, but I thought most of that shit got sorted a few years back with the ratings. So I don't see why I can watch R rated movies in the cinema but not at home on a service I pay for?

Yeah Netflix definitely gave you the censored cut. Streamers do this quietly all the time, especially with sexual violence or anything too graphic. The table saw scene is pretty notorious so if it just hard cuts, that means you’re not getting the full version. If you want the real deal you’ll probably need a Blu ray, rental, or a different service that has the unrated cut in Aus.

Crazy that they don't say on the movie page that it's a censored cut..bs

It isn't only the grapfic stuff, Prime cut out about 40 minutes of seemingly random things from the first season of Hunters (2020), for example the 2 min history lesson on the operation Paperclip...  not sure I understand why would anyone want to censor that.

I remember another country (possibly China) getting the whole church fight scene cut from the Kingsmen Secret Service. One of the best scenes in the whole movie!

Starship Troopers is heavily censored in Indian Disney+ for some reason even though it wasn't even censored anywhere else here

I noticed that Stripes (1981) had something missing from the end (the Penthouse cover). Couldn't find any mention of it online though.

My daughter started to rewatch, for the fourth time, Alexa&Katie series. Yesterday she told me that NF just cut small scenes (down to short sentences) pretty much from every episode. I live in Europe.

Definitely a region thing since my region doesn't even have the film
