It's almost like this whole concept of fining companies as 'punishment' doesn't work and has never worked because they just pass it along to customers. Same for things like suing government and expecting any change. None of the people making the decisions that cause the problems feel anything from it, there's absolutely no deterrent.

The way fines are set - no, they do not work. Fines should, at a minimum, recapture every dollar made due to failing to follow the law and THEN have punitive fines on top of that.

Don't worry. They'll lay off hundreds of workers again. I live by their head quarters and a lot of their factories and the layoffs are pretty devastating to the community. They're such a massive employment source. A couple businesses try to help by expanding production but when 300+ people get laid off there just isn't much that can be done

There are farmers in my family & the only green/yellow equipment they still have is early 90s and before. When the John Deere's started getting locked down late 90s with the first hint of all this, they jumped ship. I get that Deere makes great stuff. But the fact they're still around surprises me. Farmers seem like the last people willing to go along with this kind of stuff, yet I see the green & yellow often on other farms when I go home

I worked for a shortline ag manufacturer for almost 20 years, hated working with John Deere, they were the first dealers to crack $100+/hour for labor rates (a long time ago), they were always 25%-50% higher than other dealers and made warranties a giant pain as they would also constantly add drive time and unreasonable hours.

I hated that I'll needed was for them to take off faulty codes, ran rental companies. Would take a month to get them to come out. Diesel Laptops has been sued by them a lot. They figured out a way into most proprietary engine manufacturers. They're not c****, but they're cheaper than waiting on Deere, cummins, or cat.

What's really great about Deere is that when you spend that gawd awful price to "buy" one of their pieces of equipment...you still don't own it...you won a license to use that machine.

John Deere used to make good stuff. Any piece of equipment my company gets from them has some sort of insane issue before the 50hr mark. This is both ag stuff and turf(even worse).

For small farms, the Deere bailer can be run by 1 man with a small tractor. The Mahindra we switched to always needs a volunteer helper. I do hate the company, thoguh.

Interesting. Yeah we mostly only have tractors as far as ag stuff goes and then a f*** ton of golf and turf stuff which is seemingly their passion project sector and holy shit if I could get 10 minutes in a room with some of these engineers.

Never messed with their turf stuff, but I did think the GPS assisted perfectly planted & picked cotton picker with A/C for the driver was the best invention when summers rolled around. You could push a button and let the thing go in the comfort of ice cold air and a radio.

See now that you say that. The gps sprayers we have (350k each) are the best pieces of equipment I've used from them. Accurate to like an inch it's crazy. The only thing I hate about those is jumping the battery which for some reason is underneath the rear of the bed which needs to be raised to access it well, but if the batteries dead.......

Software bugs galore, bad wires, yes. A lot of plastic that should be metal. Battery issues both lead acid and lithium ion. Codes I can't see cause we don't pay 10k a year to see them. The list goes on.

I live in this community and will tell you many of us grasp for any sort of help. Between costs going up for fertilizer and feed and the inability to sell things overseas anymore there isn’t much any of us can do. Hating on farmers because a group votes a certain way ignorant and ignores their desperation. So yeah they believe assholes that say they want to help and sadly they know it’s never coming. Also for the record I live in central Texas And very few of my neighbors or people in my co-op voted Trump the second time. They feel for his shit once not twice. Though I doubt many voted for Harris I think they just stayed home.

Had it the whole time. Only issue was software and that is now available to anyone who would like to pay about 200$ per year per machine. But seriously parts have been available for the entire time, a large part of Deeres income is selling parts to people who then repair their own machines and implements
