And how many times did loser Donnie mail in ballots? After all it's cheating, and he loves cheating. That how he golfs too. You know cheating.

Mail in voting isn't cheating, don't imply that

I think you need to re-read my comment a few times

Well it's debatable as to whether he's actually a resident of Florida or not, so yeah it's probably cheating.

He may not be a hypocryte in that case but that doesn't make his actions worthy of approval. Admitting to cheating in a just world should get him kicked out of politics forever. I know the world doesn't work that way though.

not a rule yet, and if acting on it that would be having principles and holding the line, even if disadvantaged. that opportunist won't and will simply, and correctly, say "well, it's legal now so i can do it. but but but..." ^(and yes hope soon it will change! lock him up!)

How is Trump even able to vote? I thought felons couldn't vote.
371
rocky8u Mar 25, 2026 +473
Florida permits people with felonies from other states to vote if the state where they got the felony permits them to vote. Trump was convicted in New York, which permits felons to vote.

I've read this information shared several times in the past few days, and this is the most clear & concise I've seen it written. 👍

colemon1991 Mar 25, 2026 +12
Read it a few times after the verdict because it was discussed ad nauseam. I think this is the most concise version I've seen as well.

OGLikeablefellow Mar 25, 2026 +17
Wow they must have broken the bank on consultants to write that law
17
bobandgeorge Mar 25, 2026 +17
No. We wrote the law, gathered signatures to get it on the ballot, and voted for it in 2018.
17
I-only-read-titles Mar 25, 2026 +17
Yup, and Trump changed his primary residence to there like the week that bill was passed IIRC
17
Malaix Mar 25, 2026 +14
Wait did they change the law just to allow Trump to vote despite the fact he's a felon?
14
jureeriggd Mar 25, 2026 +15
Nah it was on the ballot and approved by voters. After it was passed, Ron DeSantis passed regulations requiring all fines/supervisory fees/restitution paid: https://www.brennancenter.org/our-work/research-reports/voting-rights-restoration-efforts-florida I'm not sure how this applies to Trump being able to vote, because as far as I am aware, he has not paid any monies toward his felony convictions.
15
tremere110 Mar 25, 2026 +7
Trump didn't even get fined a penny for his felony convictions. He owes money for a civil trial but that doesn't apply to this law. As far as New York is concerned, he served his criminal sentence - which was absolutely f****** nothing.
7
rocky8u Mar 25, 2026 +6
No. It was already the rule in Florida that if your felonies were from another state Florida permitted you to vote if the state you were convicted in permitted you to vote. That did not change for Trump. Trump changed his place of residence to Florida in 2019, before he was convicted. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-50258078 There was a referendum to amend the Florida Constitution in 2022 which changed the process for felons who had been disenfranchised to get their voting rights back, but it did not affect him.
6
Upset_Development_64 Mar 25, 2026 +20
> I thought felons couldn't vote. This isn’t true and is a big misconception I see repeated, probably to try and keep reformed felons from voting. FDT but it varies from state to state.
20
Malaix Mar 25, 2026 +11
Didn't DeSantis himself pull some shit awhile ago to add confusion to that mess where Florida voted to let former felons vote and he did some confusing bullshit with it?
11
Gurlllllllll- Mar 25, 2026 +13
I believe it was that if you have an outstanding debt as part of your felony conviction then you do not get your right to vote reinstated. Which sounds an awful lot like a goddamn poll tax.
13
odiephonehome Mar 25, 2026 +28
We need billboards in every red county showing proof of this with the words *”MAIL FRAUD…? OR JUST MAIL??”*
28

5
kaisadilla_ Mar 25, 2026 +3
Nth proof that Republicans don't believe in what they say. They know mail-in voting is fine, they just pretend it isn't because stats show Democrats are more likely to use it. And, in the future, if Republicans become a majority of mail-in voters, then they'll adamantly defend it.
3

Enumeration Mar 25, 2026 +150
I’m saying what the law legally allows, not what will actually happen. Sadly.
150
Journeydriven Mar 25, 2026 +47
The law legally allows felons to vote in some places. New York is one of those places snd since new york (the place he got the felony) allows it florida allows him to. However if he got a felony somewhere that doesn't allow felons to vote he wouldn't be able to. At least to my understanding
47
Lowjack_26 Mar 25, 2026 +2
Almost all states allow restoration of felon voting rights with a governor's approval.
2
PandaJesus Mar 25, 2026 +6
If he was brown, yes.
6
fresh-dork Mar 25, 2026 +3
they did that before, on people who had had their rights restored
3
Denialmedia Mar 25, 2026 +69
He can, but all these comments are not correct on the reason why. His felony is out of New York. Under Florida law, if a voter has an out-of-state conviction, Florida will defer to that state’s laws for how a felon can regain his or her voting rights. In 2021 New York law changed their law. It now allows people with felony convictions to vote as long as they’re not serving a term of incarceration at the time of the election. Edited: Spelling
69
laplongejr Mar 25, 2026 +13
~~You'll hate me for this, I know. But your explanation is so good that the typo is annoying. It's "changed *their* law" , sorry.~~ Especially for the part that incarceration *would* prevent voting. TIL. And that's crazy because DJT isn't incarcerated *because he's POTUS (candidate, at the time)*.
13
Denialmedia Mar 25, 2026 +3
Fixed, thanks for the heads up.
3
luckylukiec Mar 25, 2026 +67

67

Did he actually complete his sentence?
50
Merry_Fridge_Day Mar 25, 2026 +146

146
tnstaafsb Mar 25, 2026 +44
Not a coherent one anyway.
44
Nokrai Mar 25, 2026 +25
He hasn’t had a sentence yet. Probably won’t ever get one for his felonies either. At least not the felonies he already has.
25
BadHombreSinNombre Mar 25, 2026 +16
Your humor here is going under appreciated but I see you
16
luckylukiec Mar 25, 2026 +7
Yes he was sentenced to an unconditional discharge which is the most lenient of sentences possible. The judge agreed a president can’t serve time hence the discharge.
7
BrothelWaffles Mar 25, 2026 +37
So technically, he was convicted, but before he could be sentenced he was elected, so they just, like, decided not to actually bother sentencing him. Wild shit right?
37
AlericandAmadeus Mar 25, 2026 +29
His sentence was “nothing”, so yes. the judge pretty much went “even though you’re guilty and should normally get at least a few years in prison, prolly a good deal more considering it wasn’t a single count of fraud but instead *34* counts of fraud you were found guilty of….you just won a presidential election and I’m scared of the political debate/consequences if I pass a sentence that would conflict with you taking office - so go have fun, Mr. President. I sentence you to no punishment and am openly admitting I am doing this not because it’s what the law requires or says, but because I don’t want to rock the boat or be seen as political. Even if I know following the law is the opposite of being political/biased because *I’m a judge*, I care more about being *perceived* as apolitical than I do about *actually being* apolitical - so I am choosing to ignore the law because following it would be a headache.” That judge was/is a mind-boggingly selfish coward. made a big show out of acting tough/telling Trump’s defense to “cut the bullshit” during proceedings then just….completely caved on the one part where that “toughness” should have been applied. Dude cared more about what people he will never meet thought of him than he did about actually doing his job as a judge and serving his country, and was completely open about it. Pathetic.
29
jonathansharman Mar 25, 2026 +8
I don't understand why he couldn't have been required to serve his sentence after his term is over. The unconditional discharge ruling was an affront to justice.
8
laplongejr Mar 25, 2026 +3
> why he couldn't have been required to serve his sentence after his term is over Because for 4 years the judge would've been the personal enemy of Donald John Trump and all his loyalists. Trump campaigned and (thinks he) cheated on the election *just to avoid jail* in a group effort with Elon Musk and his DOGE. Putting a timer before jail time would've made *that judge* THE target. Remember Biden had to swallow his pride and issue a pardon for his familly just to mitigate the risk of revenge.
3
AlericandAmadeus Mar 25, 2026 +2
IMO the affront to justice was the judge allowing political considerations to affect his sentencing at all, regardless of the sentence handed out.
2
opeth10657 Mar 25, 2026 +2
I thought it was as long as the felony wasn't in that state.
2
ImpressiveSpace6486 Mar 25, 2026 +25
He can in Florida, home of Florida Man.
25
TheyCallMeMrMaybe Mar 25, 2026 +2
So Florida has a big loophole where they will only refer to out-of-state laws when it comes to voting restrictions for out-of-state felons. Trump was convicted in New York, which reinstates voting rights for felons after incarceration (And Trump was never incarcerated for his crimes). So Florida "honors NY law" by letting Trump vote. It's ironic because Florida has the highest number of disenfranchised voters in the US due to felony convictions.
2
BadHombreSinNombre Mar 25, 2026 +2

Republicans: Blow up the budget and deficit by cutting taxes for billionaires, crashing the economy, and starting a war in the Middle East. It's amazing how republicans managed to market themselves as fiscally responsible when they blow the economy every time they're elected, meanwhile, Clinton is the only president in modern history to have run a budget surplus.

652

The fact that they're shaping up to be a complete obliteration of the GOP makes me think they're going to pull some deeply illegal shit to cling on to power. These kind of people do not relinquish power willingly. What happens in the midterms will show how far they're willing to go to perpetuate their regime, and the capability of resistance the american people to preserve their democracy. Regardless of how it pans out, I'm 100% certain it's going to get *very* ugly.

We're at the point where we need to be motivating other people to vote
14
arbutus1440 Mar 25, 2026 +11
This election, we need to do more than that. Volunteer to help at your polling place. Pitch in for an org that's monitoring the fairness of the elections. Volunteer to help shuttle people. And for god's sake, WHEN (not if) there's ratfuckery, don't sit at home and wait for them to sort it out. Get into the streets. This may literally be our last chance to put in a little extra effort to stem the tide of rising fascism (for at least a few more years).
11
kaisadilla_ Mar 25, 2026 +8
It's not even something new. Voter disenfranchisement has been a thing since forever. The only thing changing now is that Republicans are trying even harder to rig elections.
8
SlouchyGuy Mar 25, 2026 +39
Current shutdown is all about Save America Act - they are trying to approve of emergency law that invalidates voting rights of millions of people, and among other things requires stuff like for all women who changed last name due to marriage to search for the papers and confirm their identity.
39
TheVideogaming101 Mar 25, 2026 +51
Thats why im expecting the safe act to be passed very close to the mid term election, i feel like the show right now regarding if it will or wont pass is just to delay it to do maximum damage. Afford way less time for people to get their documents in order and they purge the voter rolls in key states.
51
star-heels1969 Mar 25, 2026 +10
In my state of NC, Phil Berger lost by 26 votes, and it took him 3 recounts before he conceded. I doubt he's done though. He will probably hit up the courts 10 or 15 times before he gives in completely. The GOP is power-hungry, and not for the people.

19

Nah, if they go the fake terrorist attack route, they'll try to capitalize on it and rally everyone around Trump. If polls show it's not working, only then will elections be suspended.

My family is closely waiting and watching what happens in November. That will be the moment we decide if we should use our passports if Germany will take us. Both my mother and grandmother were born in Germany when (and this is the important part) she was *unmarried* to my grandfather (who was American). Or so I'm told. It's ironic. My family tree fled Germany to escape a dictator, just for us potentially having to go back to Germany to do the same.
79
EmoJarsh Mar 25, 2026 +5
Not sure why other replies are excoriating you for A. what your grand/great grand-parents did and B. taking a reasonable stance. It's well and good to claim to fight against what's coming but the reality is something else entirely. We all get this one life. If you choose to spend it fighting for an ideal, that's great. If you choose to flee from a really bad situation and enjoy the rest of your time on this planet, that's great too. No one owes their native country a damn thing, once the relationship sours I see nothing wrong with moving on.
5
TheDodoBird Mar 25, 2026 +6
What’s ironic is someone with a username of “SemperKnight” choosing to flee when the going gets rough, rather than stay and stand up for what they perceive is the right thing. We are at the precipice. Every non-fascist matters right now.
6
Spider_J Mar 25, 2026 +4
There we a lot of people who thought this same way in 1930s Germany. A lot of them ended up in the camps or swinging in the square. I plan to stay; this is my home and I once signed a dotted line saying I would defend it from all threats, foreign and domestic. Fascism certainly qualifies as a threat. But I will not for one second decry someone choosing to get out with their life while they can. It's a risk and not everyone should be asked or expected to take it.
4
Grimmy554 Mar 25, 2026 +7
Its honestly not the ironic. Your family was unwilling to take personal risk to oppose autocracy in Germany so they fled. Now you fear there will be autocracy in the US, so you plan to flee instead of attempting to oppose it since opposing it could harm your own personal interests. There's nothing ironic about that. It's more an insight into how republics fail. - “A republic, if you can keep it.” --Benjamin Franklin's response to Elizabeth Willing Powel's question: "Well, Doctor, what have we got, a republic or a monarchy?"
7
laplongejr Mar 25, 2026 +8
> The fact that they're shaping up to be a complete obliteration of the GOP makes me think they're going to pull some deeply illegal shit to cling on to power. It's also a good way to drive anti-Trump votes down, and MAGA votes up. People who simply want to eject Trump don't have an interest into *actively* supporting the candidate. As an European, I feel like I'm seeing 2016 and 2024 all over again.
8
a_goonie Mar 25, 2026 +2

US voting system is a very detailed decentralized system and one of the most impossible to rig if people just get out to vote. All the gerrymandering, voter id and poll watchers cant stop voters if people would get out and vote, and young voters to boot. zif even 7o% of all legal voters vote, Republicans would never hold Senate, House or the Presidency ever again. Then Dems get the power and have competent leadership, expand voting access, delete gerrymandering, make voting a holiday week, make voting easier, delete dark money pacs/money in politics and expand SCOTUS we could actually make America great again. People not waking up and voting is the entire problem with our country.
15
Victoria4DX Mar 25, 2026 +5
This is not true at all. They compromised the voting machines in 2024 to rig the election and they will do it again. Until Americans wake up and realize their democracy has been compromised things will never change.
5
Gurlllllllll- Mar 25, 2026 +2
> if even 7o% of all legal voters vote, Republicans would never hold Senate, House or the Presidency ever again I severely doubt this considering that's just 7% more voters than what we saw in 2024, and that's basically covered by every Californian deciding to vote, which would not change the house, senate, or executive composition in any meaningful way.
2
theshnig Mar 25, 2026 +7
I just want the Dems to do something with it. The whole college loan forgiveness thing under Bidens term was one of those weak ass rug pulls that sticks in memory (it's a far cry from anything the current administration has rug-pulled their base for). The people elected are going to have an absolute shit show to clean up after. If the Dems want to go beyond winning and hold power and influence for any amount of time, they need authentic, smart candidates that focus on fixing the problems of the people. ...and for God's sake, don't go preach at people about their beliefs and how they aren't liberal or progressive enough. They want to buy homes they can afford, out reasonably priced gas in the car, and maybe start a family. They don't have the bandwidth to engage in social and cultural issues.

Unfortunately this wasn’t true for the other half of the country, due to their media’s incessant coverage of Biden’s every cough and awkward handshake. They did the same thing with Obama (He worse a tan suit! He bowed too low in Japan! He likes “fancy” brown mustard on his hot dogs!) and they’ll do the same thing with the next president whoever they are.

112
Victoria4DX Mar 25, 2026 +10
That bill is a red herring. They already have the ability to cheat the elections. They did it in 2024 when they altered the voting machines to rig the election for Trump. For plausible deniability purposes they will intentionally let that legislation fail to pass then rig the midterms to give the Democrats some power but not enough power for any real change to occur; i.e. they will let them win the House but they will rig the elections just enough that they keep control of the Senate. Then in 2028 they will make sure Republicans sweep all three branches again.

monty_kurns Mar 25, 2026 +183
To be clear, he wasn’t a congressman. He was in the Florida state house, not a US house seat. Becoming county clerk was probably a move up in this case, especially if he was planning to run to something else or wanted a judge position at some point.

TheCudder Mar 25, 2026 +60
This. Florida State House members earn $29k per year. They're paid like a city council member. Apparently Clerk pay is roughly $40k or so.

What’s the comptroller make? (Also, what’s a comptroller?)

Oversee financial matters. Like a glorified accountant.

What's the difference between a comptroller and a controller, and why the extra p?

comp-trollers are the Russian mic spammers in CS2

heirofslytherin Mar 25, 2026 +8
Still makes me crazy that this position is pronounced the same as "controller"

$29-$40k?! Is it like a part time job or something? That is like minimum wage (\~$13.96/hr), and entry level IT workers for the state of California make closer to 70k. [https://calcareers.ca.gov/JOBSGEN/7PB35.PDF](https://calcareers.ca.gov/JOBSGEN/7PB35.PDF)

local government jobs are incredibly low-paying

Omg holy shit I totally misread that! Makes more sense now.

ConfusionBusy8398 Mar 25, 2026 +44
State Houses frequently pay well bellow median wage. Being a state representative in Florida earn you a whooping 18 k$ a year. It seems to be a mix of political backlash about touching it and a decent way to block "the poors" from running/staying in office. A county clerk is a real job with a real income.

blueskies8484 Mar 25, 2026 +11
The disparity in legislature pay between states is wild. Ours make over $100k.
11
KAugsburger Mar 25, 2026 +5
Florida state legislators are up to 29K per year but even that it is on [the low side for salaries for state legislators](https://www.ncsl.org/about-state-legislatures/2025-legislator-compensation). You aren't generally going to become wealthy as a state legislator in the US without breaking laws(e.g. bribes, insider trading, etc.) but at least some states pay enough to where it is feasible for someone to actually live entirely on their salaries. I think one of the challenges in raising state legislator salaries is that most states [heavily limit the length of their legislative session](https://www.ncsl.org/resources/details/legislative-session-length). It is hard convincing many voters that legislators deserve a salary high enough to make a living when attending a legislative session is a very part. It is hard to get the votes to increase salaries when many legislators are able to hold other jobs.

Not in New York. I worked for a NYS Assemblywoman and she was making well over $130K and was hoping to get some good committee posts to bump it up even more.

stevez_86 Mar 25, 2026 +7
Not all states see state representation as a profession. They say it is so that no one person will stay a state representative for very long, so more opportunities for others. In practice, it makes it a nice retirement gig or like a board seat for a wealthy person. It can also increase corruption since any low person in that position taking it seriously may have to find a way to add income. My political science professor was a staffer for a Delaware House Member and said it was a part time job. Everyone in state government in one of those states has to take a career job and work as Representative in their spare time. And the Federal Government had things under control at the time so it wasn't a big deal. There wasn't work to be done at the state level.
7
metallicadefender Mar 25, 2026 +18
This is at the state level? Edit: Yes it is.

SnooCauliflowers9874 Mar 25, 2026 +32
It’s been blowing my mind since they ignored the subpoenas in his first term. The fact that vile creatures like Jim/Gym Jordan still has a job also blows my mind… You know, upon further reflection, there’s actually too much blowing going on here (and not in a good way) I mean, I literally could go on all day with the infinite amount of surreal examples so I’m just going to stop here before I become even more depressed.

doneandtired2014 Mar 25, 2026 +24
>The fact that vile creatures like Jim/Gym Jordan still has a job also blows my mind… It shouldn't. Anyone who still identified as a Republican after Jan 06, 2021 is a moron, a piece of a shit, or a both. Listen to someone interview your average Republican voter and be prepared to bury your hands with the realization there are 77 million other people just like that dimwit and nothing, literally nothing, will ever snap them out of being what they are.
24
Chessh2036 Mar 25, 2026 +110
Republicans are going to get destroyed in the midterms, if Trump doesn’t find a way to stop it. Which he prob will.
110
NULLizm Mar 25, 2026 +104
Two glaring things they've done: 1. USPS is not responsible for delivering your mail in a timely manner 2. Votes that come in after election day AT ALL will not be counted 2 is still pending but likely to pass the Supreme Court. So we need to make sure everyone knows to vote in person if possible. Early vote early vote
104
Rednys Mar 25, 2026 +2
Wonder if trumps mail in vote was counted.
2
ScoutsterReturns Mar 25, 2026 +77
It has to happen or we are toast. It needs to be a wave of blue so big there is no ignoring it. I want to have faith, and this helps, but I'm still so worried. Trump et al. will do anything to save themselves.
77
Sweet-Marsupial606 Mar 25, 2026 +28
Not when he cheats. Only republican ballots will count the dems ballots get thrown away. Also wonder how long before he calls this FAKE NEWS

Don't spread FUD. Don't discourage others from engaging in the voting process. Do your civic duty and vote
9
BassLB Mar 25, 2026 +19
He just needs 1 state to participate in “suspending” either the vote or the results to cause absolute chaos and slow play it through the courts.
19
NYGiants181 Mar 25, 2026 +19
Never going to happen. All states are completely separate and certify their own way. He can get fucked
19
BassLB Mar 25, 2026 +16
I hope, but there are a lot of very red states that seem to do what he wants. Even if people protested, it’s not like they can make the state govt hold election/count ballot/etc. And it only takes 1 state to throw everything into fuckery.
16
NYGiants181 Mar 25, 2026 +4
Let them whine and b**** all they want
4
BassLB Mar 25, 2026 +5
If 1 state doesn’t certify for whatever reason, do you think Mike Johnson certifies the rest in the house?
5
redvioletbrown Mar 25, 2026 +2
Mike Johnson would not be Speaker by then, as the new Congress elects that, so he would have no power to do anything.
2
BassLB Mar 25, 2026 +3
He would be the speaker if the midterms weren’t certified, like if one states was still missing…
3
redvioletbrown Mar 25, 2026 +3
No he wouldn't. His term automatically ends Jan 3, even if he is reelected to his seat. Then Congress would have to pick a new Speaker. Remember it took 15 rounds for the GOP to pick one?
3
BassLB Mar 25, 2026 +3
And if there is nobody to replace him, bc of court cases and one state holding everything up? Then it turns into an arbitrary date that everything thinks they “have to” follow. Listen, I hope it doesn’t happen, but thinking it isn’t possible bc they will just follow the rules is naive at this point.
3
Snakend Mar 25, 2026 +4
He probably won't. As much bruhahaha as everyone is making about everything, the Constitution has still been upheld. Procedures are still intact. So far. I'm not saying he won't try it, or anything.
4
Grand_Soupa Mar 25, 2026 +8
He can't even throw out the mail in votes without throwing out his own 😂 sensational

A district in Tampa vacated by the Lt Governor was also flipped as well!
15
MrPresident2020 Mar 25, 2026 +7
Not only that, the election happened because the current rep left the seat to run for the state Senate, and she lost to a Democrat, too.

This is amazing that they flipped it but this is going to really light a fire under Trump’s diaper to push harder to destroy mail-in voting or otherwise help him rig the system.

mlorusso4 Mar 25, 2026 +10
Wow. It really feel like every senate seat is in play. Not just those swing states or even those “should be red but it’ll be competitive” states. But those full on “we don’t even need to campaign in this state because there’s not a chance we lose” states. There are 35 senate seats up for grabs in 2026. It might be legitimately possible for democrats to win 25+ of them
10
Nasha210 Mar 25, 2026 +11
Don't get too happy. Republicans will do everything in their power to steal the election. Remember, they have the Congress Senate and the Supreme Court.  Democrats need a project 2030 that involves fixing the courts, police, and DoJ, and recovering all the money these grafters will steal from us over these 4 years.

She won by less than 800 votes. Yay for 50%+1 majority, but the f****** idiots have done the damage. As someone born in Florida, I think it's hilarious I may need a passport to travel to that hellhole someday.

Some old lady named Estella gives about her old number/my new number and I get texts and calls for her still. Greg Abbott texts are emploring people to vote by mail, absentee, whatever it takes. They don't think any of these things are bad, they're just liars and cheats of the highest caliber. Edit: actually let's be real. They are un-american, traitorous, pedophile protectors and most of them deserve harsher punishment than I can say without being banned.

Ron DeSantis could redeem this timeline by pressing charges against Donald Trump for voter fraud, since he's a convicted felon under New York law. High crimes and misdemeanors, President Peter Thiel vis-a-vis dumbass Vance, nuclear armageddon, and finally, peace on earth.
5
TechieSidhe Mar 25, 2026 +4
Sadly, DeSantis would leave his teenage daughters alone with Trump at Mar a Lago, knowing what that might entail, just so he can have more power. He is an oxygen thief who has fucked over Florida. I don't believe in hell, but I'll make an exception for him.

How long before Trump dumps his entire cabinet, the Republican party, and claims he's always been a Democrat?

After decades, Americans are finally starting to think "Hey...these Republicans...aren't good for the country..." And all it took was two years and the obliteration of our economy, institutional capacity, social contract, official dignity, international relationships, and status and future as a geopolitical superpower. And I'm not even confident the lesson will stick.
