The problem is that when Republicans talk about crime, they're not talking about crime. They're talking about racism. Tough on crime has always meant lock up colored people.

Democrats constantly bring a 50-page policy white paper to a knife fight. The GOP just throws dirt, screams about crime, and easily wins the entire news cycle. It's exhausting to watch.

We need younger, progressive people who understand that we cannot and should not  be attempting to meet MAGA in the middle. We are fighting fascists. We need politicians who fully realize that.

Trouble is it’s a white paper policy fight, except there’s not a single adult in any of the adult spaces

Dems could have better messaging I guess. But huge portions of the electorate simply don’t seem to care when Trump and Republicans lie and commit crimes. And that’s not even just the Republican voter base, it’s centrists and swing voters too. Dems DO talk about what Republicans are doing, those voters just don’t care.

This is so true. Our old leaders are not emphasizing enough on social media. They still live in old days whereas the world has changed so much in many ways.

Exactly!! That's why, I have this crazy idea that we should ALL reach out to as many as we can and INFORM them not only to get better, but cite different examples, such as this one! I'm hoping it's a MAGA who downvoted me and NOT a Democrat.

Dem campaign ads in my state won't even mention that the maga candidate for governor was a fake elector.

The GOP protects the corrupt pedophiles, the greedy billionaires, the foreign dictators. They hate Americans.

Attention Democrats: the other side rapes kids. If you can’t control the narrative, step aside.

January 6th happened. Do you think people didn’t understand that?   And we elected Trump anyway, in part because of bullshit excuses blaming Democrats for everything and nothing.  F*** that. If you don’t like Republican crime vote for Democrats and encourage others to do the same.  People who do otherwise are part of the problem, not the solution.
2
Silent-Resort-3076 Apr 1, 2026 +1
BUT did they (and I don't mean MAGA, etc.) know about THIS?? Also, this call to improve their messaging is NOT for MAGA or those who still support Trump, but for those who did NOT bother to vote in 2024 - about 90 million registered voters. * **They should, for example, highlight the case of Andrew Paul Johnson**, who was convicted and sentenced to life in prison for multiple sex crimes he perpetrated against at least one kid under the age of 12 and another under the age of 16. * Johnson, who has a long criminal history, was among those sentenced for his involvement in Trump’s January 6, 2021, insurrection. According to his arrest report, he told the victims that, if they stayed quiet, he would share the millions of dollars he expected to be awarded as part of his pardon. * Why don’t Democrats highlight his case, and the fact that he was at large because he was pardoned for crimes committed on January 6 — especially since Republicans claim to care so much about sex crimes against minors?

The Democrats are controlled opposition. Losses due to Wage theft dwarf all other property crimes (robberies, burglaries, motor vehicle thefts) combined. When is the last time you heard a corporate Democrat mention it? They don't care about your life, they care about your vote.
3
Shaudius Apr 1, 2026 +3
"The Democrats are controlled opposition." They arent but you're a prime example of why Democrats lose.
3
MiddleAgedSponger Apr 1, 2026 +1
Why don't they address wage theft?
1
Shaudius Apr 1, 2026 +1
Why is that your number one issue?
1
MiddleAgedSponger Apr 1, 2026 +1
Who said it's my #1 issue? It's an important issue that affects the working class. Do you not think it's an important issue? The Democrats lost the working class vote. Do you think addressing issues that affect the working class is a bad strategy in winning back their votes?
1
Shaudius Apr 1, 2026 +1
Why did you specifically mention it while ignoring all the other policies enacting during Democratic administrations to address working class people. Also do you think wage theft enforcement is better or worse during republican administrations?
1
MiddleAgedSponger Apr 1, 2026 +1
Are you one of those people that thinks any criticism of the Democrats is bad? Which policies have the democrats passed that have dramatically improved the lives of the working class? If we can both agree that the working class's quality of life has declined over the last 50 years and we can also agree that both parties have shared power over that time period. Would it be wrong to draw the conclusion that democrats are either powerless to help the working class, incompetent or complicit? Wage theft from party to party, The rhetoric may change, but the enforcement hasn't changed much over the last 25 years.
1
Shaudius Apr 1, 2026 +1
"Are you one of those people that thinks any criticism of the Democrats is bad?" No, but you appear to be one of those "both sides" people that is a large part of the reason we are in this mess. "Which policies have the democrats passed that have dramatically improved the lives of the working class?" Anything I said in answer to this would be brushed aside as not "dramatic" enough. I'm not going to play this game. "If we can both agree that the working class's quality of life has declined over the last 50 years and we can also agree that both parties have shared power over that time period" Which periods do you think it has declined the most and what policies do you think led to this decline. "Would it be wrong to draw the conclusion that democrats are either powerless to help the working class" It depends on what you mean by help. A decline doesn't mean that there isn't attempts to help and you also have to realize the cause of the decline and the policies of the parties to address that decline. "but the enforcement hasn't changed much over the last 25 years." Until 2025, that was largely true. Trump's second term has changed all that.
1
MiddleAgedSponger Apr 1, 2026 +1
"Both sides" is what Establishment Dems say when you criticize their ineffectiveness. The term has been so overused that it is basically meaningless. it is a cop out for people who root for a team instead of meaningful progress. We can all accept that the GOP is worse for the working class. We know that and can't control it. What we can control is the resistance, that comes from vigorously vetting and criticizing democratic policies and candidates. That comes from appointing better leaders to lead the resistance, not electing the same people and expecting different results. People like you think relentlessly questioning democrats is a bad thing and I think not questioning them is why we are in the situation we are in. Estsblisment Democrats hold up the passage of the ACA as a big achievement. Before the ACA was passed America had the worst health care system among peer nations. After the passage of the ACA America still had the worst healthcare system among peer nations. Seems like a hollow victory to me. 66% of American Bankruptcies are due to health issues. That number is basically the same pre and post ACA. 78% of the people declaring medical bankruptcy had health insurance at the time of their medical issue. Being slightly better than terrible is not the same thing as good.
1
Shaudius Apr 1, 2026 +1
"it is a cop out for people who root for a team instead of meaningful progress." No its a cop out for people like you to not vote for Democrats and feel good about it because "both sides" are the same when nothing could be further from the truth. "People like you think relentlessly questioning democrats is a bad thing" I do think relentlessly questioning democrats is a bad thing when Republicans are much worse. By focusing your ire on the least bad option you are making it more likely that the worse option gets into power. See, e.g. 2024. "After the passage of the ACA America still had the worst healthcare system among peer nations" Which is why the ACA isn't meant to be the end of the story, but unfortunately Republicans were able to propaganda and racism their way to power in 2010. "Being slightly better than terrible is not the same thing as good." Its not slightly better, that's the whole point. If the Democrats had a filibuster proof majority in the senate do you think anything would look even remotely the same as it does now? Because I don't.

> Why don't they address wage theft? They try to Here is a website about the issue: https://democrats-edworkforce.house.gov/issues/labor/wages-and-hour-issues Here is a bill they introduced: https://www.congress.gov/bill/118th-congress/house-bill/5402 Give Democrats 60+ seats in the Senate and you will get laws that address wage theft (amongst other workers issues). But as long as Republicans have power, those bills are DOA. We have to give them power if we want issues addressed.
1
MiddleAgedSponger Apr 1, 2026 +1
How are we supposed to get 60+ votes when we can't even get the party behind a voting rights bill? It's just a carrot and stick situation where we are always close, but never quite cross the finish line. There is always some Fettermanchin waiting in the wings to stop progress if the price is right.
1
kanst Apr 1, 2026 +1
You vote first, then you get legislation. A vote is not a reward, its a request. We got a bunch of good policy even with the tiny majority Biden had. But if you want real systemic change the Democrats need an overwhelming majority, so that they can get to 60 votes even with the handful of fetterman-esque dissenters that will always exist.
1
MiddleAgedSponger Apr 1, 2026 +1
There is always an excuse why progress for the people is impossible. It's as American as apple pie, baseball, racism and medical bankruptcies. America's political system has been coopted by big money. Our democracy is an illusion. We will never be a true democracy as long as billionaires can buy elections with their pocket change.
1
kanst Apr 1, 2026 +1
>There is always an excuse why progress for the people is impossible. There isn't an excuse, there is a simple reason. Republicans, or more accurately conservatives. As long as conservatives have power, we will never have real progress. >America's political system has been coopted by big money I don't disagree with this, but even given that there is one party that consistently advocates for reforms that will improve life. Those reforms are never enough, because the Democratic party is also fairly conservative, but that doesn't change that there is only one party interested in improving people's lives. There is no excuse to ever vote for the Republican party. >We will never be a true democracy as long as billionaires can buy elections with their pocket change. They cannot directly buy elections, all they can do is use that money to lie to Americans to try to convince them to vote against their interests. Its up to all of us to counteract that, every American should be arguing with every conservative in their life. That is the only way to fight against those moneyed interests.
1
Shaudius Apr 1, 2026 +1
"when we can't even get the party behind a voting rights bill?" This is ahistorical nonsense. The John Lewis Voting Rights Act passed the house, it failed to get 60 votes in the senate, but every Democrat supported it. They just didn't support abolishing the filibuster to pass it through the Senate. Given the current makeup of Congress, that seems like a wise choice, since its preventing the Republicans from passing their voter suppression legislation.

What "wage theft" are you referring to?
0
MiddleAgedSponger Apr 1, 2026 +5
Unpaid overtime, off the clock work, illegal deductions, misclassification, tip stealing, etc etc etc. or you could just do a little research.

Efficient_Resist_287 Apr 1, 2026 +1
The issue is also the massive media propaganda. GOP is unafraid to break rules or stretch them to get their ways, while Dems always try to reach a consensus which does no longer applies. Look at Fetterman, u can never get a GOP senator to use a crucial vote for a Dem., but there is always a Dem. willing to do it for a Repub..
1
All_Hail_Hynotoad Apr 1, 2026 +1
Dems think that talking about policy and facts is enough. But no one can hear any of that through the GOP noise. So you have to cut through the noise first, and you can only do that by beating the GOP at its own game. You have to fight fire with fire. Then you can talk policy.

It doesn't feel worthwhile because of the double standards, people simply don't care when Republicans are malicious or incompetent. Look at the "cognitive decline" stuff. When Republicans brought it up it was a major issue with Biden with significant impact on the national conversation and the election - but it doesn't stick it all to Trump despite Trump's own overt decline. The same is true with crime, Republicans are just expected to be shitty people and it doesn't particularly affect them so it doesn't feel worthwhile to hammer on it.
1
Silent-Resort-3076 Apr 1, 2026 -3
I wholeheartedly disagree! Perhaps MAGA world doesn't care, but we Democrats care and IF our politicians refine and get creative with their messaging, that can get those who are still sitting on the fence to care. AND, what happened to Renee Good and Alex Pretti has been enough of a wake up call for a heck of a lot of "potential and registered voters" in our country. >people simply don't care when Republicans are malicious or incompetent.
-3
Bittererr Apr 1, 2026 +5
Yeah I just don't believe you. We knew how much of a criminal Trump was in 2024 and he got more votes than ever while *less* Democrats showed up to vote than they did before Trump tried to overthrow the government in 2021. People (at least on the left) don't care and aren't motivated to vote against criminals.

Tbf, dems have been winning elections nonstop recently, even in redder areas that carried Trump before. The mistake many democrat and independent voters have been repeatedly making is thinking "my voice doesn't matter so I'm just not going to bother". I live in a red state, but there are actually tons of democrats. They either registered republican instead because "only Republicans can win" or just don't vote at all. Which is weird, because I'm in Oklahoma, and we had a democrat governor like two governors ago. Within their lifetimes.  Most people though just consumed the news like they now consume AI. It's a religion. They follow and believe whatever they're told and assume it to be true based on blind faith. They prefer confirmation bias over critical thinking. They prefer the easiest path with the least resistance and danger.  All of this made the job easy for Republicans. Left voters basically rolled over and shrugged like they had no means of fighting back. It's why people now are so pissed at establishment dems like Schumer. He's still doing exactly that because he thinks people are still like that.  I think the tide is shifting. We talk about being woke, but people are *actually* waking up and questioning things like why do some people have a billion dollars while I can't afford a mortgage.  Progressives are jumping on that, and that's why they're suddenly winning elections, and why the dnc in general is turning against Schumer. That's why it is an opportune time to push forward and educate people on *why* shit is bad and *how* it can be fixed.

Because MAGA and other Republicans voted for him! After these past 15 months of pure hell, you can bet that Democrats CAN get enough of the 90 MILLION registered voters, who did NOT vote, to vote against the Republicans!
-1
Bittererr Apr 1, 2026 +4
>Because MAGA and other Republicans voted for him! That's not primarily why he won though. He won because several million Democrats that voted in 2020 didn't bother in 2024. A focus on Trump's criminality was not an effective way of getting people to care.
4
Silent-Resort-3076 Apr 1, 2026 -1
How could you have missed this part of my response? >After these past 15 months of pure hell, you can bet that Democrats CAN get enough of the 90 MILLION registered voters, who did NOT vote, to vote against the Republicans!
-1
Bittererr Apr 1, 2026 +4
I didn't miss it, I just think you're wrong. We had a government with a DOJ that was focused on identifying and prosecuting criminality instead of covering it up and people didn't care, it's unlikely people are going to care now that we have a government that actively hides the crimes of Republicans.

Democrats NEED to get better at their messaging, their campaign ads, and I think WE should reach out to them and inform them!! Snippet: * During her press conference on Monday, Karoline Leavitt didn’t want to answer questions about the high price of diesel, why Donald Trump threatened Iran with war crimes, or the military’s alleged use of landmines. What she did want to talk about, however, was one of the many murders that are committed in the US every single day. Specifically, it was the killing of Sheridan Gorman, an 18-year-old college student who was fatally shot on March 19 ONLY because an immigrant killed her. Never mind that multiple studies have shown that immigrants commit crimes and are incarcerated at a much lower rate than people born in the US. Obviously, Gorman’s death is a tragedy. Every homicide is, and the taking of a young life seems especially tragic. * All of this highlights how good **Republicans** are at what we call the “anecdotization of the news.” If reality and facts aren’t on their side, **they simply find a story that “confirms” their desired narrative.** * Democrats, on the other hand, are typically bad at drawing attention to damning facts about their electoral rivals. * Johnson is far from the only insurrectionist who is either facing new charges or has already been convicted for crimes committed after being pardoned by Trump.
1
Silent-Resort-3076 Apr 1, 2026 +1
There's more in the article, but another snippet: * Johnson is far from the only insurrectionist who is either facing new charges or has already been convicted for crimes committed after being pardoned by Trump. * In fact, **there are nearly three dozen known cases** involving crimes including the solicitation of minors, possession of child p**********, aggravated sexual battery of a child under the age of 13, sexual exploitation of a minor, conspiracy to defraud the United States, killing a motorist while intoxicated, conspiracy to murder law enforcement officers, r***, armed robbery, and aggravated kidnapping. * Or what about saying the names of the dozen detainees who have died in ICE custody, many of whom were denied medical care? * Or the nearly blind refugee who died after federal agents dropped him off at a closed coffee shop in the dead of winter? * Or all those fraudsters Trump pardoned without making their victims (and taxpayers) whole?

The Democrats have not had a resonate economic message for the country in 30 years. Ever since the 3rd way era of the 90s when they all adopted the same pro corporate message as the GOP they have had nothing to offer the vast majority of Americans on the most significant issue in every election cycle. Its why Dems have only be able to win nationally off the backs of GOP failures rather than there own policy proposals. Obviously there are numerous issues that people should care about like the GOP actively protecting the largest child sex trafficking ring in modern history. But when people cannot afford food or shelter they cannot really afford to care about anything else. You even see it in how Dem leadership have approached elections in the past 25-30 years. They have completely abandoned large swaths of the country as completely unwinnable and focus more an more on smaller and smaller areas around major cities and trying to win over the mythical moderate suburban voter. There winning formula requires them to win like 90% of the vote in a major city just to counteract the fact that they don't even compete in most places in a state. That is not a sustainable strategy and it has shown in the past 3 presidential races. It also makes them incredibly easy targets for GOP gerrymandering when all you have to do is break up the major city into like 5 pieces. The more you look at how the democrats have acted politically over the past 30 years you genuinely have to ask yourself if they have even tried to win at any point post 2000 because every Dem victory had nothing to do with the Democrats as a party the GOP opposition could have been the kick puppies and f*** America party and they would probably win outside of maybe 2012.
