I like how someone younger than 25 likes Depeche mode

I’d go Violator, Music For The Masses and Some Great Reward myself, but you can’t go wrong with any of your selections.

Oh good god some great reward is way too far down. I approve of the top three though. :)

As a 43 year old male, my top 4 (and the ones I listen to the most overwhelmingly) are:
1. Ultra
2. Violator
3. Playing the Angel
4. Songs of Faith and Devotion
But I do spin my vinyl of 86-98 Singles a lot as well.
What about SoFaD resonates with you so much? I always thought Mercy in You should have been a single.

I like them before, but that was *the* album that got me hooked. To the point I even saw them in concert during my honeymoon (luckily the spouse was always a fan, he's the one who play ultra for me)

For my money, Violator has to be first. The entire album is amazing, but Enjoy the Silence puts it into the best of the best.

Pretty fair ranking for Ultra.

I'm a 51 year old male who lived through all these records.
Violator is one of the best albums by any band of all time. I ignore your list as it's not number 1.

You’re missing my absolute favourite album *Depeche Mode 101*. Joking aside, I was into their 1983-1990 era so I can only speak to those albums.
I would take *Some Great Reward* or *Violator* interchangeably in 1/2; SGR for the most of my favourite songs on one album and Violator for best end-to-end listen. *Music For The Masses* and *Black Celebration* wouldn’t be far behind at 3/4 then *Construction Time Again* at 5 despite “Everything Counts” being my favourite song.
But with Depeche there’s no real wrong answer so you can enjoy whatever you want in whatever order (even though I’m a little upset where you have SGR rated).

Disagree with your rankings but as a fan since '96, I'll put Black Celebration to SOFAD as the greatest four consecutive albums against any other artist.

I sort of agree with your list. It's hard to rank Music for the Masses since it's literally that album, mass appeal music and it does it very well so a lot of people could put it higher.

Yes I agree, its not quiet as "dark" as the surrounding albums.

Started listening to Depeche Mode in ‘83 when Construction Time Again was released. Was a great time for music especially synth pop, new wave and other electronic music. Their albums through the late 80’s were some of my favorites: Some Great Reward, Black Celebration, Music For The Masses.

As a casual appreciator, Violator contains too many hits to not be first.
I would put Music for the Masses and Songs of Faith and Devotion after because of Never let me down again and Walking in my shoes.
All in all I would listen to the live in Paris which acts as a crazy live best off and the songs really come alive in it. One of my favourite live albums.
