Plenty of liberals and people that are LGBTQ+ are white so there will be plenty of white people labeled as terrorists in Florida.

The important thing is that it's only the white people who white conservatives don't like.
29
bradland Apr 7, 2026 +32
Yeah, I mean certainly they're going to use this to target non-whites, but the lines aren't *only* drawn at race any more. It's in-group/out-group. If you're in any number of out-groups, you're under fire. Basically if you're not a pseudo-Christian nationalist who supports fascism, you're going to come under fire.

I've been labeled a possible terrorist before by our country..... For serving our country. f*** the DHS.

First they came for the Communists And I did not speak out Because I was not a Communist Then they came for the Socialists And I did not speak out Because I was not a Socialist Then they came for the trade unionists And I did not speak out Because I was not a trade unionist Then they came for the Jews And I did not speak out Because I was not a Jew Then they came for me And there was no one left To speak out for me
279
SteveJobsDeadBody Apr 7, 2026 +48
Actually first they came for LGBT people, but the writer of this poem was a pastor and a Nazi party member so he used erasure on that group. Then eventually the leopard ate HIS face and he got all sad and stuff and wrote this.
48
IronyAndWhine Apr 7, 2026 +29
The Communists (KPD) were the first to be mass-arrested and sent to camps in February 1933 (following the Reichstag Fire) because they were a direct political threat. There was significant repression of LGBTQ communities that started about one week before those mass arrests of communists, when e.g., the Ministry of the Interior ordered the closure of all LGBTQ-associated bars. But mass rounding up of LGBTQ folks didn't happen until almost two years later... December 1934 I believe was the first mass "sweep" of gay men in Berlin. If anyone knows information that contradicts that, let me know. But yah, Martin Niemöller was very anti-LGBTQ and probably didn't include LGBTQ people in the poem for that reason. While he was an anti-Semitic nationalist, he was technically never a member of the Nazi party, and ended up in a camp in 1937 for his opposition. Agreed it's probably the prototypical, ultimate "Leopards Ate My Face" moment in history, but that is also sort of the point of the poem.

I'm sure there are a small army of Tallahassee sycophants thinking this list up presently. * Rainbow anything - My Pink Pony, Reading Rainbow, Rainbows, [Greenpeace](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FIzafGm9CUA) * [~~Boy Scout~~\->Scouting America](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qmnLYVNO5EE) \- because teaching kids how to be law abiding and self-reliant is a little too woke for obedient loyalists like Mr. DeSantis likes. * Brown people, anyone less white than Matt Damon is just too f****** brown and needs to be a terrorist. * [Antifa](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZTT1qUswYL0) \- Which is basically anyone not already a dues paying Republican * "Woke" - Army, Navy and Marine officers and servicemembers * Democrats, Green Party people, Actual conservatives, small business owners who support people from any/all backgrounds. * Especially anyone who might know what [**No Kings**](https://www.nokings.org/whats-next#toolkit) is about. * Catholics, Protestants and Jews , Muslims, Hindus and anyone who might hazard to ask anything about prisoner treatment , clemency for over-harsh treatment or petition for relief on the part of the poor, as Empathy is the enemy of the state. * [Disney](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oxtvvRmZFWU) \- which probably very unexpectedly to corporate, actually found itself agitating against fascism outright - and quite possibly because of Mr. DeSantis directly.

They already designated [CAIR](https://www.cair.com/), a civil rights / advocacy organization, a foreign terrorist organization, with zero proof. So you can guarantee that any 'woke' organization that the DeSantis regime dislikes - ACLU, GLAAD, Planned Parenthood, The Society of Friends (Quakers)... will end up getting labeled as 'terrorists'.

My wife recently watched Handmaids tale. I told her the most unbelievable thing I saw in the story was that the Gulf States (Texas to Florida) were leading the resistance. These states embody what the bad guys in the show strive and live for throughout the show.
33
MadDaddyDrivesaUFO Apr 7, 2026 +17
I can't remember if it's mentioned in the show but in the book those states broke free in a "Baptist rebellion" so it's likely they're still theocratic fascists even in that universe, just with different theology.

Always was. "Free Speech Advocates" have always hated free speech. Note: When I say "Free Speech Advocate", I'm using quotes and capital letters on purpose. Most people advocate for free speech, it's a foundational belief of modern free societies. This is different.

rbrgr83 Apr 7, 2026 +3
"Free Speech Absolutist" as a phrase they loved to use to describe themselves during the Biden admin. Funny how that just seems to be a non-issue for them now 🤷‍♂️

Think_Positively Apr 7, 2026 +171
Based on a different article I just read, the law seems to give a single member of the Florida Dept of Law Enforcement the ability to nominate "terrorists." This nomination then goes to the governor plus a trio of other officials for a vote: the stat AG, the CFO, and the agriculture commissioner. The article does not mention anything about labeling criteria, and I do not wish to torture myself by reading Florida law. I'm no constitutional scholar, but it's hard for me to wrap my head around how this would not run afoul of the first amendment. Even if it was upheld down the road, it's clearly designed to be used as a cudgel by the Floridian administration.
171
A_wild_so-and-so Apr 7, 2026 +100
It's clearly a first amendment violation and a judge has already put a hold on an earlier Florida declaration of a so-called terrorist organization.

Da_Question Apr 7, 2026 +27
I mean, the reason they do this is to try to get it through to the supreme court, they do these stupid laws and bullshit lawsuits all over as a concerted effort by Leonard Leo to have his federalist society lawyers bring cases to his federalist society supreme Court justices.
27

Pretty sure this power is reserved for the federal government anyways, I imagine this law will be overturned as unconstitutional
11
Swamp_Ape_92 Apr 7, 2026 +10
It’s not even reserved for them. There is only a mechanism for them to label Foreign groups terrorists. That hasn’t stopped republicans from trying to label domestic groups.
10
Eternal_Bagel Apr 7, 2026 +10
Given that it’s Florida and Desantis, probably giving donations to PBS or food banks or a Democrat running for anything would be examples of terrorism.  Maybe understanding climate change or buying a non Tesla brand electric vehicle or installing solar or wind power generation or being friendly to someone that isn’t straight

The bill is [hb 1471](https://www.flsenate.gov/Session/Bill/2026/1471) and yeah it does do what the quote says. The language is just too broad and primed for misuse.

Laws, bills, etc should be SUPER specific. Anything vague is just rampant bullshit and should be entirely unacceptable.
74

Convincing the world that laws need to be specific has been an ongoing challenge for hundreds of years and will continue to be for more hundreds.
21
TucuReborn Apr 7, 2026 +4
People always point out, "what if it's too specific?" The answer is to tack an addendum law onto it, which is normal. But for some reason, the USA decided that we need broad laws that get narrowed down after years or decades of court decisions.

MAGA is a domestic terrorist organization, no time like the present for some aspiring police, judges, and lawyers for a genuinely good improvement to the state.

Given what Trump recently posted about “A whole civilization will die tonight” I’d say MAGA is a global terrorist threat, not just a domestic one.

44
TheSilentPrince Apr 7, 2026 +142
So this is obviously just a power grab, fully intended to be misused. If blue states pass the same law, and do the same expulsions, to groups Republicans like, watch them freak out.  Imagine a blue state designated Turning Point a terrorist organization, for its involvement in January 6th, and expelled all students involved in that. Do you really think DeSantis would just be like "Well, okay, free state."?
142
SplendidPunkinButter Apr 7, 2026 +59
How about designating the KKK a terrorist organization? We’re way overdue on that one.
59
HoldinMacaque Apr 7, 2026 +24
That's always the one that grinds my gears. I used to live in a town in South Florida that essentially used the KKK as a police force way back before it was formally incorporated. In the 50s they essentially burned a series of black businesses and residences to the ground and even though you can't see the burn marks today, just knowing it happened and no one was ever brought to justice just pisses me off. Every time I drove by that area I thought about that. The fact that the KKK is still, to this day, not considered a terrorist organization by the Justice Department speaks volumes.
24
ecotopia_ Apr 7, 2026 +4
There were Klan rallies all over Broward County in 1992 and 1993. I remember clearly the one in Davie. The Klan isn't active there anymore, at least not visibly, but those people are still around.
4
HoldinMacaque Apr 7, 2026 +5
Davie is precisely the town I was mentioning. You can literally see the klan influence still in different parts of the area. I've gone to bars with coworkers where guys would follow me to my car, threatening me. Got called the N word a few times at the gas station near Nova (where I used to work). It just makes me sick thinking they do this without fear of legal retribution because the cops are likely the sons and daughters of those klan that burned parts of the town.
5
GatoLibre Apr 7, 2026 +15
It took me a long time to figure this out but it’s not about the morality of “actions” based on a set of principles. In their minds, it’s the morality of “sides”. That’s why the examples of Republican hypocrisy are literally everywhere we look. These people just continue on with the cognitive dissonance and turn on Fox News to see who they should be angry at and blame for their problems.
15
TheSilentPrince Apr 7, 2026 +6
They only care if their "side" is "winning". Meaning flashy, clickbait-y headlines *telling them* that they are; even if they, personally, are suffering. Even if the Democrats would objectively, mathematically, give them a better quality of life, holding on to their hatred is more important to them. The billionaires were pretty smart to manage to set up a system like this; through propaganda, cheating, and whatever else. All-in-all, it has made me lose a lot of respect for the Democrats as well. If your opponent is cheating, and there's no referee to stop them, if you **don't** *cheat back*, then you're fighting with one arm tied behind your back. I wouldn't call that the "high ground" or having "principles", I would call it "weakness" or "complicity", personally.
6
Maxpowr9 Apr 7, 2026 +5

I wouldn't call that the "high ground" or having "principles", I would call it "weakness" or "complicity", personally. Always been my sentiment with Democrats too. The Biden presidency will be considered one of the worst in the modern era for being so weak. Biden should have shitcanned Garland when he slowwalked everything. Even now, most of them are complicit in this and don't care.

>Gov. Besides the governor, the Cabinet is made up of the state attorney general, the chief financial officer and the agriculture commissioner, all of whom are elected separately. >Once designated a terrorist organization, a group can be dissolved and it can no longer receive any state funding through school districts or state agencies. Universities also would have to report the status of expelled students attending on visas to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. This is blatantly unconstitutional. And to think this clown will probably run for President again at some point.

This law is so ridiculous. Sharia law isn’t even remotely a problem in Florida and acting like a small community can overrule your state or local government is mindblowingly ignorant. The real key here is banning a Muslim advocacy group CAIR under the guise of all the other bull in the law.

Unconstitutionally vague and violates the 1st amendment right to assembly and expressive association. Florida doesn't have a lot of my tax money, so I don't see how it can waste taxpayer dollars defending this law from the inevitable successful challenge.

Belerophon17 Apr 7, 2026 +17
The constitution isn't a guideline to the GOP. It's an obstacle.

Buddhas_Warrior Apr 7, 2026 +8
Great! He'll finally do something about the Nazis and white supremists, right? Right?? Anyone...

lucasjkr Apr 7, 2026 +9
The “free state of Florida” where you can be expelled for having views that differ from the governor and, of all people, the agriculture commissioner. Really. Agriculture? And to any magas reading this and cheering, you realize how dangerous this will be when the shoe eventually winds up on the other foot?

DA_Bears2262 Apr 7, 2026 +7
Republicans must enjoy losing in court.

Remember Trump said this. "If you say you support antifa you should be immediately jailed." Besides the wanna be thought police part. That means being against fascism would be illegal. So we have to be cool with it. If not supporting fascism. Remember when the nazis pushed everyone out of the party who wasn't "with it". Remember when Hitler completely reorganized the military to his yes men? Remember when Nazis used already marginalized groups as "evil" like the jews, disabled, trans, and different? Then theres the whole saber rattleing and incredibly aggressive words and posturing that hitler did. What about when they started showing military aggression to neighboring countries? I'm not saying its the same. But dang there are some striking similarities

He needs to be removed from office and arrested.
28
Vrgom20 Apr 7, 2026 +27
That only happens in countries that hold their elected officials accountable.

ChunkyBubblz Apr 7, 2026 +12
Florida is a state you leave if you want an education and move to if you lack one.

parisi2274 Apr 7, 2026 +7
Let’s start with Turning Point USA. Oh wait, that’ll never happen. It’s just the groups that go against everything our Pedophile President believes in.
7
puterijessica Apr 7, 2026 +6
At this point in time. I no longer can rate the level of stupidity of these m0r0ns, it’s as if they’re in some sort of competition to out stupid one another.
6
eyeballburger Apr 7, 2026 +7
So like, the kkk, white supremacists and religious extremists?
7
KarateKid917 Apr 7, 2026 +12
Didn’t the courts just block something similar from Florida? Is he trying this shit again?

On political organizations that oppose fascism: “things that shouldn’t happen IN THE FREE STATE OF FLORIDA” the contradictions are staggering

sundogmooinpuppy Apr 7, 2026 +5
Florida is not getting my tourist dollars.

DrBitchin Apr 7, 2026 +5
Groups... Groups? Just like literally any group of people they feel like calling terrorist that day?
5
Curious-Emu3894 Apr 7, 2026 +6
F*** DeSantis. F*** Florida. So glad we moved out of that shit hole state. F****** morons running lose everywhere.

I wish we'd hurry up and dissolve this union so we can let this hateful little appendage whither and rot.
6
Part_Tricky Apr 7, 2026 +5
This moron is looking for a job with Trump's family after his term end in 10 months. He named an airport to Trump's name. We do not name stuff to a sitting president's name ever.
5

this high-heeled freak is running his own little fascist dictatorship within a fascist dictatorship.

This is why the red states are starting up their own MAGA-friendly university accreditation body. Pretty soon a diploma from any Texas, Florida, or other red state university will be worthless. There is no way in hell my kid will go to college in a red state.
10
Hayduke_2030 Apr 7, 2026 +12
Texas’ state universities have already stated they’re cutting ties with the American Bar Association. Sucks for all the law students in the state.
12
Rogue_AI_Construct Apr 7, 2026 +9
The GOP clearly hates that college students, who are majority young women, have freedom of speech and a right to protest, so he’s looking to take away their constitutional rights.
9
PossibleDiscipline90 Apr 7, 2026 +5
Won't look good when students find other places to get educated and they'll lose a lot of money. Oh well...
5
EgbertSouse1940 Apr 7, 2026 +3
Really cool we are going into our 250th with a fascist dictatorship
3
CsmicCupcake Apr 7, 2026 +5
DeSantis, you loser and $10 million thief. I can’t wait until Florida is done with you. And by the way, you’ll never become president because people don’t like you that much.
5
SolidBlackGator Apr 7, 2026 +4
So to be clear, a bunch of people arguing for the equal rights of minority groups can be designated terrorists, but a bunch of people breaking into the Capitol, assaulting the police, in an effort to overturn an election are... not?
4
Beaufighter-MkX Apr 7, 2026 +5
Ron really hates higher education
5
BabiiGoat Apr 7, 2026 +4
Barely literate magas as usual do not understand what words mean. "Terrorist" does not mean "anyone who is mean to me"

Cama_lama_dingdong Apr 7, 2026 +4
If people want to stand up against these bills that centralize all power at the top, STOP VISITING THOSE STATES! If you do not believe books should be band, STOP GIVING THOSE STATES YOUR TOURISM FUNDS! I hate when people say they are allies to LGBTQ and then go on vacation to FL. There are other beaches, even a another house of Mickey, here in the US.

muFUtaco Apr 7, 2026 +4
When trump is kicked out of office and retreats to Florida and DeSatan cedes from the union and makes Mar-a-Lardo the capitol of Florida Country... And DeSatan sends "his" troops to Cuba to knock off the government there and we'll have the "Bay of Pigs - rev 2" to deal with and trump will still be a festering pus filled wound on America. It's not just trump that needs to go, but every goddam shitbag who's kissed his ass in the past 12 years, whether they be senators, congressmen, judges, governors, law "enforcement", or city councilmen... every one of these national blights needs to be held accountable for their crimes.
4
wip30ut Apr 7, 2026 +5
Fascists being fascists.... no surprise.
5
Have_A_Jelly_Baby Apr 7, 2026 +4
Just rename Florida MAGAstan already and be done with it.
4
Odd-Syllabub-3642 Apr 7, 2026 +4
Having the power to deem an entire group of people terrorists seems like a terrorist thing in itself. I think Ron desantis is a terrorist threat to students, Florida, and the rest of the country.
4
LeoSolaris Apr 7, 2026 +4
> the governor and three other members of the Florida Cabinet approving or rejecting the designation. Besides the governor, the Cabinet is made up of the state attorney general, the chief financial officer and the agriculture commissioner, all of whom are elected separately. I know it's Floridian politics, but why are the state's finance and agriculture elected officials weighing in on criminal matters outside of financial and ecological subjects?
4
Malaix Apr 7, 2026 +4
This guy is going to run in 2028 and he will be a more competent fascist than Trump. Existential threat. He is more ideologically fascist. Trump is just habitually fascist because he's an insane nepo baby pedophile.
4
stein63 Apr 7, 2026 +4
When the state starts policing ideology this aggressively, free speech is the target whether they admit it or not.
4

I guarantee the kkk won’t be affected.

This is going to blow up in their faces. Eventually, maybe not today or tomorrow, democrats are going to get voted back into office. And wouldn't it be a shame if a group who labeled themselves as domestic terrorists at a CPAC event suddenly got what they voted for?
12
BillLaswell404 Apr 7, 2026 +12
Another Israel first move by the GOP.

Anyone thinking of going to Disney World, don't. Go to Disneyland in California. California has better weather, more freedom, and is just better than Florida.
6
Organic_Welder_6883 Apr 7, 2026 +3
can't wait rip roles are reversed then all MAGA will be labeled terrorists. live it up you Mo- Ron's...you time will end.
3

So label trump as a terrorist. Deport him.
3

This litteraly is a challenge to the just made ruling of Chiles v. Salazar (decided March 31, 2026) Healy v. James Scales v. United States Brandenburg v. Ohio Moody v. NetChoice Texas v. Johnson NRA v. Vullo Let alone the constitution itself in Florida and United States
3
Soylentgruen Apr 7, 2026 +3
Well, DeSantis is an autocratic despot. He has a label now. He should be overthrown (in accordance with American ideology).
3

Small men with small minds and waaaaaay too much power. Anti-woke = we just can't have you treating others as you would have them treat you.

Another regime change is in order.
3
Rare-Forever2135 Apr 7, 2026 +3
Ironically, a couple of studies at this point have confirmed that the right-wing extremists hold first place in amount of lethal domestic terrorism perpetrated, Muslim extremists second, and left-wing the least.
3
Captain_brightside Apr 7, 2026 +3
Now I want you to ask yourself and think critically; does this sound like something that happens in a free country?

Republican power assertion reaching into redefining words again; they love deciding to label things, and they live using the strongest available words to label.

Key_Net820 Apr 7, 2026 +3
There was once upon a time, where we held (or at least pretended to hold) the mantra "give me liberty, or give me death", and now, the very political party that stood by it, is literally doing the opposite; offering safety in exchange for your freedom.
3
objecter12 Apr 7, 2026 +3
But Colorado banning conversion therapy is *simply* a bridge too far
3
Jhoag7750 Apr 7, 2026 +3
