Exactly the sort of unserious and destructive governance that 32% of our free-willed grown-ass adult population voted for and an additional 37% couldn’t be bothered to vote to prevent.

We need to reform the entire agency, or more specifically, deform it. In those crazy days after 9/11, the government overreacted in an attempt to correct poor interagency communication by slicing all these agencies from their original departments to create Homeland Security. It was a mistake then. Hell, I've always hated the word Homeland and that was before I read the Boys! The way Trump has turned ICE into his secret police should be the department's death knell. It is proof we gave Homeland Security far too much unchecked power, at least when the republican congress refuses to check it which led to this shutdown. We can fix interagency communication without this stitched together Frankenstein of a cabinet department. There are agencies like FEMA that have no reason to be glommed together with ICE stuck in Homeland, too. We need to break it up. Return most of the agencies to where they belonged, reform ICE into INS under the Justice Department, and rejigger the leftovers to where they fit best in the other cabinet departments.
