Make sure to audit everything else. Not that anyone has any expectations of the drunk bar patron Markwayne.

He's named after both of his uncles, because his mom wasn't sure which one was the father.

Don't be fooled. The DHS burned through its budget. This is to throw her under the bus. But it won't stop civil rights abuses.

boblabon Apr 1, 2026 +56
The ultimate question isn't if there was corruption, it's a question of how much and why wasn't Trump cut in. Trump doesn't particularly give a damn about immigrants outside of a general hatred of anyone who isn't him. The ICE push has Miller written all over it, and Trump just goes along with it because it keeps the support of racist morons. The big question is did Miller, Noem et. all NOT cut Trump in on the double dealing? If Trump didn't get his cut, then he'll be more than happy to throw Miller, Noem, Bovino, and the rest under a bus he's personally driving.
56
FIRE_Minded Apr 1, 2026 +1
I would bet that only reason Noem was fired was because she was laundering money from the DHS budget and Trump didn’t get his cut
1
Zinfan1 Apr 1, 2026 +129
Rachel Madow has a segment on her show highlighting that DHS was paying twice the valuation of warehouses while burning through their budget. https://youtu.be/KOmoMzqz9XY?si=B7yi7LKmOmz13wZE

Wazzen Apr 1, 2026 +16
Makes me wonder if they were doing it to assure they got the warehouses and that they wouldn't be outbid- or if they assumed they could silver the palms of the people they were buying from.
16
Semyonov Apr 1, 2026 +15
My assumption is that they were paying +20% of market value, and pocketing the rest.
15
Wazzen Apr 1, 2026 +5
Wouldn't surprise me. The whole admin has been on a looting spree. Makes me wonder how they're going to actually like... sustain having all of that money. Usually such economic imbalances historically end up with some rather abrupt self-correction.

The [Orlando](https://www.orlandosentinel.com/2026/02/06/potential-ice-facility-in-orlando-rickrolls-removed-listings-and-a-backlash-as-a-sale-appears-near/) warehouse has a price tag of $99 million. Hasn't been purchased yet. No permit changes online neither. Not a drop of ink has been signed for that property since an exploratory visit by ICE was reported mid-January of this year, but its been eyed since November of last year for that price so ICE has an entire spreadsheet listing these fuckers with a price tag. Mighty expensive, indeed. And the funny thing about it is that this is actually their Plan B. Plan A was supposed to use existing jails that would line the pockets of privatized jails and rapidly fill them with immigrants but that plan was unsustainable so they went for this instead. Now it seems that Secretary Mullin is re-thinking this from a business practicality perspective. He has a background in plumbing/construction and sees a lot of red flags with sites like this one they're built for *industrial* use, not detention. So even if they purchase a colossal site like that for $99 million, its gonna take millions more, a mountain of manpower and a lot of time lost before the site *comes close* to becoming fully operational. Nevermind that a deal was never signed to begin with so they actually have to sell the damn building to ICE first, but the broker in the linked article is under fire for even considering that transaction so this whole situation makes the prospect of the sale even more discouraging because its looking like the feds are gonna be left holding the bag if TPA Group rushes the sale and DHS won't like that. The way I see it, its not realistic of them to purchase, re-purpose and operate sites like these by-the-book while enduring public outrage nationwide. And cutting corners by keeping state and local governments in the dark and trying to speedrun these purchases to advance their concept of a plan is only gonna end in disaster for everyone involved. So f*** ICE.

All of the steak, lobster, fully loaded $150K 2026 SUVs and spec ops tier loadouts for their "agents" must've really cost a lot of our money.
21
Beard_o_Bees Apr 1, 2026 +6
~$93,000,000,000.00, at least on the Department of ~~Defense~~ War side of things. These fuckers are so dirty that if they don't manage to stay in power, they're fully cooked - which makes them even *more* dangerous imho.

GetsBetterAfterAFew Apr 1, 2026 +16
This is a feature of Fascism and not a bug, as cliche as that is, and why Fascism eventually will eat itself. Trumps style is to put people in a room to basically Galdiator their way to gain favor. It inherently eats itself thru unsustainable extremism and internal power struggles, ultimately betraying its followers and dismantling the institutions required for its own stability. Based on spectacle, violence, and constant scapegoating, it creates an unsustainable "Armageddon complex" that leads to catastrophic failure.  Scapegoating is a key feature and its always interesting to me that people would seek power from a Fascist leader because the clock is ticking on their demise, but generally these people are really unintelligent and lack any sort of grasp on history. How many Agency heads this term have been thrown under the bus... not counting Bovino because hes too short to take damage under the bus.
16
dust4ngel Apr 1, 2026 +4
> people would seek power from a Fascist leader because the clock is ticking on their demise trump literally said that he doesn't like to surround himself with successful people, because he prefers to be the center of attention. so if you try to be his lackey and start doing really well, he's going to get rid of you.

I think this is more about the next guy setting up his warehouse grift in place of Noem's
16
Iceman9161 Apr 1, 2026 +7
Burned through the budget, and the murder of a civilian directly caused DHS to be kept out of the funding bills. She’s out of favor with Trump, and now they’re going to pin everything to her. Probably why here husband ended up in the news yesterday too.
7
pcase Apr 1, 2026 +3
This and take a wild guess who some of the buyers were— ding ding ding sketchy folks laundering money, even folks who are sanctioned.
3
MikeTalonNYC Apr 1, 2026 +1318
I'll just outright state for the record that if you're ever talking about human warehouses (immigrant or otherwise), you've become the bad guys and should immediately stop and reconsider all your life choices.
1318
MannequinWithoutSock Apr 1, 2026 +214
Yeah, you’d think they would invest in plane tickets and legal assistance to process things along. Not *storage*.
214
MikeTalonNYC Apr 1, 2026 +40
At the very LEAST, yes.
40
Sitchrea Apr 1, 2026 +11
Humans aren't "wares" to be "housed." Even the word "warehouse" used here is revealing.
11
SkunkMonkey Apr 1, 2026 +44
How else are you going to get that sweet slave labor? The immigrants yearn for the mines.
44
Manofalltrade Apr 1, 2026 +20
Slave labor is more defendable (hork) than what they are doing. They are simply after suffering for the sake of suffering. Also the deaths.
20
Snarfbuckle Apr 1, 2026 +15
its already legal as long as they go to prison so they just need to make illegal immigration a life sentence or something and put them in for profit prisons...
15
Tacoman404 Apr 1, 2026 +1
So close! They'll make dissent against Trump criminal and put the "home growns" (American citizens) in there instead.
1
Snarfbuckle Apr 1, 2026 +1
of course not, anyone they deem not American enough they will simply exile to a country they have no connection to regardless if they are citizens or not.
1
Hvarfa-Bragi Apr 1, 2026 +1
That's what flock and Mobile Fortify are for
1
SkunkMonkey Apr 1, 2026 +7
Well, when they finally replace the Constitution, slave labor will be legal again. That makes all these facilities instantly worth a shitload of money as a c**** labor force. They are preparing. Everything they do is in preparation of the end of the US and the birth of New Gilead and their Christian Constitution.
7
Rocktopod Apr 1, 2026 +6
The constitution already says that slavery is an acceptable punishment for crimes. They don't need to replace it to get what they want here. They already insist that illegal immigration is a crime, so all they need to do is convict and they can enslave thousands of people without violating the constitution.
6
SkunkMonkey Apr 1, 2026 +1
They want to remove the extra steps and limits. We're talking full blown slavery.
1
Mojo141 Apr 1, 2026 +6
Bingo. It's about the slave labor
6
Tacoman404 Apr 1, 2026 +1
Immigrants? No. Those things (the immigrants) will be removed or killed in the process of removal. The human warehouses are for "home grown" dissenters.
1
chubbysumo Apr 1, 2026 +5
They found out that plane tickets and legal assistance was actually hard. Storing them was easier.
5
knittedbirch Apr 1, 2026 +11
Not hard. Just unprofitable.
11
SpectralBowie Apr 1, 2026 +4
But what if your friends that bribe you make money from human storage?
4
Talk-O-Boy Apr 1, 2026 +4
That sounds like a private prison system. I can’t imagine any country would abide by a penal system that financially incentivizes the imprisonment of people. … right?
4
mystad Apr 1, 2026 +3
That would be the logical option but logic is a demonrat hoax now
3
kernpanic Apr 1, 2026 +3
The problem is: Australia has already been down this pathway and the answers arent good. Some refugees and immigrants will have come from places they cant go back to, or will simply refuse to say where they are from - so you don't know where they can go. So you are left with two options: just send them to a random accepting country or "infinite detention". And that's where you are at right now.
3
EEpromChip Apr 1, 2026 +1
...can't make tons of money buying plane tickets and legal assistance... But real estate, on the other hand. AND construction? Boy howdy!
1
pontiacfirebird92 Apr 1, 2026 +42

jrob321 Apr 1, 2026 +46
Warehousing human beings has a name for it. I can't think of it right now. I'll have to concentrate. From what I remember, if you're doing that, you're on the wrong side of history.
46
maclaglen Apr 1, 2026 +11
Perhaps we should camp here for a while why we concentrate on why some did not-see this coming from a mile away.
11
jrob321 Apr 1, 2026 +6
I live less than a mile away from the old Pep Boys warehouse in Chester, NY which they were trying to push through (and is thankfully being held up by local politicians) as one of their "detention centers". It is MASSIVE. The very thought of a concentration camp in my own backyard is so surrealistically far beyond abhorrently mystifying to me i cannot even comprehend its magnitude. This entire country should watch the documentary film Night and Fog *Nuit et brouillard* (1956 - dir. Alain Resnais). It dispels the notion, "We had no idea what was happening", and how all it takes for evil to prevail is for good men and women to do nothing. With each ugly step we take further into this xenophobic, otherizing dehumanization, we lose forever what once made us stand out as that - albeit a somewhat ironic misnomering metaphorical description - Shining City On a Hill. We cannot let this happen. History doesn't repeat itself, but it often rhymes...
6
dust4ngel Apr 1, 2026 +4
> if you're doing that, you're on the wrong side of history ideologically, i'm in the same camp
4
Aleksandrovitch Apr 1, 2026 +8
No shit. They're not even calling them detention facilities. F****** warehouses.
8
jackkerouac81 Apr 1, 2026 +6
They are buying existing warehouses for crazy sums of money with the plan to turn them into “detention centers”. The one they bought in SLC that has been in the local news, was purchased for $145MM and is valued at $80MM… so they are using great fiscal responsibility with their rush to fascist endgame approach.
6

3
pichael288 Apr 1, 2026 +3
I considered that's what it means, but no that's ridiculous it's gotta be like new legal immigrants coming here to start a business that needs a warehouse. Nope, it's internment camps
3
DckThik Apr 1, 2026 +2
For too long have they hired contractors who drive their pickup trucks down to Home Depot at 5am to pick up migrant day laborers… No we must get them all in one area so there is formal competition.
2
fresh-dork Apr 1, 2026 +2

It does. What it doesn't have the right to do is cram human beings into warehouses like boxed goods. That was one of the few non-horrific analogies that went through my mind, just so we're clear.

No it's real. The DHS has already purchased multiple warehouses in over 20 communities to be used as detention centers. https://apnews.com/article/immigration-detention-centers-pushback-24e702da67281a672b0f77287aaa87ba

[ICE is not exactly hiding what their intent is here.](https://www.bloomberg.com/news/features/2026-01-29/us-spends-hundreds-of-millions-on-warehouses-for-ice-detention-centers) Purchasing warehouses for the explicit purpose of housing immigrants was earmarked in the OBBB.

2

Internment, though I believe the commenter you're responding to knows that. Interment camps would likely be definitionally different since interment is the act of putting a dead body in its final resting place.
3
Nice_Firm_Handsnake Apr 1, 2026 +1
There are six graves at Manzanar, so interment camp is somewhat accurate.
1
d_smogh Apr 1, 2026 +3
Or laws in the US that would prevent corruption and willful spending of money.
3

i know this is gonna be an unpopular opinion but this looks promising. Markwaynre might be an improvement and the regime seems to have recognized the necessity of damage control.

Theyre pissed the money wasn't used for their own enrichment as well as Noem's, any appearance of damage control is just that, the appearance of. Outside of Millers extreme racism the only outrage here is that Noem wasted money by not lining more of the admins pockets.

Interesting development but I’ll trust it as far as I can throw the DHS, where is nowhere. Half the things I’d like looked into are looked into by the people I think need to be looked into. Another administration will have to audit this one for my comfort😅 It’s like those attack helicopters being investigated. The moment Pete was aware, he shut it down and said there was no investigation. Well…there was, it began when the suspension began. Ending it early or completing it is one thing but that’s not what he said happened. He said it never happened to begin with and I say that’s a lie. Another lie.
