I’m towards the end of season 1 now and am loving it, but I’ve heard past season 3 it drops massively. It almost makes me want to stop watching it before the disappointment hits. I won’t of course, but wonder if anyone actually enjoyed it past season 3?
Weeds was a good show for a bit. It's the kinda show I'd put under the flag of "it's good until it isn't". Start it. Watch until you start losing patience with it, and know that at whatever point you put it down you're ok.

After season 3 the shows just becomes a different show with the same actors . I watched it when it was out all the way through from season 1 until the bitter end and couldn’t imagine watching it again.

yeah i made it through season 4 but after that it was just Nancy making same stupid decisions over and over 😂 like watching a car crash in slow motion but less entertaining

I liked seasons 4, 5 as a weird road‑trip spinoff, then it nosedives. Easiest move: keep watching until you stop having fun, then just bail guilt‑free.

Copy that. Good to know you liked 4 and 5 too

Season 1-3 is basically Desperate Housewives with a lot of sex and drugs, which was awesome.
Season 4 and beyond became a drug show with a lot of comedic parts in it.

I liked it, but it basically becomes a different show. IMO the quality doesn't go down that much, but a lot of the people that like the first few seasons won't vibe with the new show.
The first few seasons were pretty relatable. You could believe that a widow would get into weed dealing to support her lifestyle.
Without getting into to many spoilers, the later seasons get kind of absurd (both the comedy and the drama). You won't find any of the characters relatable.

I enjoyed it all the way through my first watch. I find that on rewatches I stick to only season 1 and feel satisfied.

I really liked it. Just go in and ready to enjoy it. I will say it does have a difference and feel but the characters are hilarious and the show is still a good watch. It’s worth at least watching once

There was a good season or two in there.
But it overall suffered from Showtime-itis. Went on waaaay too long. See Dexter, Shameless, Californication, Billions, Homeland, The Chi, The Affair, Ray Donovan, etc.

I enjoyed it personally. One thing not a lot of people mention in mitigation for the varying quality is they were setting up Celia to be a rival for Nancy during season 5 for season 6 and possibly future seasons. She had her daughter, husband, Doug, Sanjay and others on side but Elizabeth Perkins wanted out after struggling with the unhappy negative storylines stemming from the cancer storyline in season 3. She would later say she wishes she trusted Jenji more in an interview. But they had to pivot. It's why you barely see Dean, Isobelle and Sanjay after S5.

I didn't hate some of the seasons after season 3, but the quality varies wildly between season. I think season 5 was where it really just lost me, and the last three seasons were really brutal.

When I first watched Weeds, I stopped after Season 3 because I got bored. I'm rewatching it again now and hopefully will watch the whole series.

The seasons become very formulaic. Nancy meets a guy, things are cool, things stop being cool, she dumps him or he’s killed, repeat until the end more or less. Some side stuff of course, but it’s all around dealing with the guy who’s gotta go. That’s how I remember it at least.

I was explicitly told by my friend who saw the whole thing to just consider the end of season 3 the end of the show. Imagining them all dying is a better ending then anything that happens in the season after.

I watched it all the way through while it was airing. Most of the best side characters are gone after season 3, and the ones that stick around are playing like caricatures of themselves.
There are good moments in the later seasons, for sure, but season 3 is a great place to stop. It's actually kind of a perfect series finale, too.

I rewatched this winter and I still think it's a good show but yeah it definitely changes quite a lot and it loses some of its flair and get quite absurd. But still it's fun imo. But as others say, watch until it's not fun any longer for you.

Yes it dropped off a cliff.
Big problem is that you have breaking bad to compare it to, which just over dominates the television landscape.
With any show, watch it for you, if you enjoy it rock on, otherwise stop watching, don't give two flying fucks what anyone else says.

Weeds walked so breaking bad could run
Bummer it loses some of its reputation based on that. Definitely have no shame watching a show others don’t like, but keen to hear people’s verdict - agreed!

Season 3? It went downhill after season 1.

It went down the way of Nip Tuck. Like they just hit randomizer but it got more unhinged each time. The younger brother using the mallet on that woman really came out of no where.

If you’re responding to the thread of someone who’s watching it from the start now, safe to say it doesn’t matter when it came out !

True. Guess it a good thing I didn’t say what season or what woman or what city or which state or which country or continent.

The later seasons had its moments. For those of us who watched the whole series til the end. Most of us would agree. If you stop at season 3. You aren't missing anything. Its moves away from being grounded around the weed and the adjacent industry. MOre of her doing stupid shit. The ending sucked with her and Andy. When people ask why there aren't 20+ episodes tv series anymore. A show like this would be why.
