Dinner for Schmucks's IMDb rating is criminal

Posted by Chlodio

>5.9 I cannot fathom what would warrant such a low rating for such an excellent movie. It's a very well-written and produced movie with great performances. Carrell might be the weakest part of the movie, but it is still prime Carrell. There are plenty of poorly written slapstick comedies from this era, many of which received a rating of 7 or higher. But this doesn't even get that.

Because it was a mediocre movie. 5.9 sounds about right.

Agreed. I was really disappointed by this movie after having seen it's fantastic trailer. One of those weird situations where the trailer is 10x better than the actual movie.

No. It's not. This isn't school grading. 5/10 is middle of the road.

It has terrible scores on RT from both critics and the audience, and Metacritic has it at 56%. It's just a bad movie.

I'm glad you like it. I don't think the general population agrees though.

5.9 seems pretty generous actually. I personally dislike this movie and that rating is above the middle.

Came here to say just this. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder though, I'm happy OP enjoys it so much.

It's partly because it's a remake of a better film.

I hear that.

I think the word 'excellent' is stretching a bit. And IMDb ratings are notoriously all over the map because everyone participating has a different metric for how they choose to rate.

Seems high, it’s not good. But the people have spoken

It's not a very good movie.

It drags at times and some of the wacky plot lines (Zach G and the IRS, the exgirlfriend, going to visit the guy trying to bang Paul Rudds girlfriend) pull away from the story. Once you get to the party, it picks up a bit, but as fun as it is, it feels lacking in actual story.

From the title, I wanted to see a high-concept kind of movie about the dinner itself, where as the story unfolds we learn how interesting and awesome the "schmucks" are and ultimately the evening becomes a kind of revenge of the "nerds" as they are flying over the hosts' heads. But we did get some funny stuff like "you may say that I'm a dreamer but I'm not" but an overall ok movie.

The actual dinner scene was hilarious. Loved it. The rest of the movie was difficult to watch.

Maybe film buffs are aware that this is a remake of very highly regarded French comedy from 1998 [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4FANGIUNbiA](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4FANGIUNbiA)

NO ONE was more excited than I was to see Carrel and Rudd in this movie but it ended up being disappointing.  Not a horrible movie it just wasn’t good or even funny.

That's my opinion as well, I chuckled a couple times and that was it. The only scene I remember is Zach Galifianakis laughing. I expected so much more from a movie with that cast.

movie drags. Much better one (of a somewhat similar idea) is The Cable Guy
